Loved all the photos!! Matthew and Van Joseph were so patient and caring with my nervous gal. It was obvious that Ramona felt comfortable there - she’s been super leash reluctant, but they got her to go on 2 walks during daycare!! Huge success. They were super communicative and great. Can’t wait to bring Ramona back and watch her settle in even more :)

Huey loves going to Ruthy's! He always walks into her place confidently. She takes the dogs to the park at least twice a day, works on training, cuddles with him and socializes him with other people. I'm SO lucky to have found her! She treats Huey like he's her own. Thank you Ruthy!!

About: I have been caring for pets my entire life. I have always had at least two or three cats and dogs or two. I have raised puppies and cared for elderly pets. I have cared for diabetic cats and dogs with cancer. I understand the importance of following pet parents instructions when caring for other’s animals because each pet has very different needs. I am free right now all days but Tuesday which is when I attend classes at SFSU. I am free for dogs walks or dog sitting all days but Tuesday as long as I have a days notice. I live in an apartment with no yard right now down the street from lake Merrit. There is a dog park just 1 block down the street with a fence that I will walk dogs down to 4-8 times a day depending on the needs of the dog. We do have a large apartment and very pet friendly environment.

About: *I only board dogs from one home at a time and do not own any pets myself!* I love to jog around Lake Merritt, and I'd be happy to take your fur baby along for a run! I've cared for dogs and cats, healthy and sick, with very specific dietary restrictions and activity needs. I wish I could have my own pet, but since I travel pretty often, this is the next best thing. :-) I’m a Product Manager with a hybrid work schedule. Rest assured, I can easily get from work to home on in-office days for walks/drop-ins if needed. I also work at a dog friendly office. I am available most days for drop-ins 2x/day. On weekday evenings, I typically go on runs (with/without dogs!). Expect many photos of your fur baby while you're away! I'm happy to drop in to check on food, water, litter (for cats), and take your pup on walks. I am very detail oriented, so if you have very particular instructions regarding diet or preferences while outside, you can trust me to follow them. For boarding, I have bowls for water and food as well as doggy waste bags. You would need to provide their food, treats, toys, (litter for kitties), and anything else to make their stay more comfortable!

Baxter has stayed Andrea and her pups twice for daycare, with hopefully more days to come! Andrea has a gentle, kind spirit and seems very attuned to a dog's needs. At our meet & greet, she asked great questions about Baxter and his routines. She provided fun updates with pics a few times a day -- much appreciated!

Playing, giving them treats, and making sure they stayed within neighborhood bounds were a regular for my brother and me. I’ve also had the honor to house sit for a variety of dogs and cats. I’ve cared for the needs of senior cats to playful pups to independent rescues, to mischievous kittens. With this experience, I am happy to care for and get to know more of your beloved furred ones! … It is also a special interest of mine to do training for dogs. I believe in using Positive Reinforcement and loving gentleness when it comes time to handling animals. I’m currently working towards getting my CBATI-KA through Grisha Stewart’s Academy and becoming Fear Free certified. I love continually learning through different trainers and educators under the CCPDT’s guidelines of LIMA (Least Intrusive Minimal Aversive). —- I also was certified with Pet CPR Aid with ProHero Training. —- Let’s book a Meet & Greet! Scheduling: I work as a FT freelancer, so please respond in a timely manner and communicate as much in advance, so I can best fit you and your pet into my schedule/space! — Some things I’d like to know from you: When is your best availability for an initial Meet & Greet? What is the size, breed, and temperament of your animal(s)? Are you ok with me posting pics of your pets? — Thank you! + Please note I will always value you and your fur babies’ comfortability first. … Your pet(s) and their personalities are the Star of the show! — Please let me know about your pet’s personal likes/dislikes, favorite toys, treats, any allergies, and/or particular preferences for comfort & joy. I also have experience administering medication, if needed and have experience (for both dogs and cats) with preparing supplements / added medicine to be mixed in with their meals. A personal side interest of mine is also doing training for dogs. So if your dog has any particular behaviors, you’d like to be worked on, let me know and we can work on tackling an issue together.

Nasreddine and her bf were friendly and efficient with the drop off and return! Both dogs only stayed a couple hours but seemed to enjoy their time with their hosts! Above all, Nasreddine was SO understanding, flexible, and accommodating. My dogs escaped that morning and it was a flurry of whether I needed to cancel or not. Luckily, they came back after their little adventure and Nasreddine was happy to watch them even after all the chaos. Thank yooou!!

Burt generally prefers chill-er companions and it seems like Basco was that. Would definitely return to Brittany for future care.

About: Hello! My name is Shanna (like banana) a non-profit consultant based in the Bay Area. I love animals and have lots of experience caring for pets (cats and dogs) either in your home or at my house. I'm interested in helping you feel peace of mind knowing that your fur friend is taken care of. Please ask me any questions. I'm looking for opportunities that make sense with my schedule, and I'm happy to accommodate your needs. Thank you for your consideration. I'm currently working on a contract basis and primarily remote so I have time to stop by your home or house-sit as long as there is reliable Wi-Fi. Typically, when pet-sitting for friends, I will feed, walk, or change out litter boxes as often as needed. If I am not staying at the owner's home full-time, I will make sure the animal gets sufficient interaction and love daily. If an animal is staying in my home during the day, I have a fenced-in, locked yard (though I generally wouldn't have an animal outside without me) and there is also a dog-friendly park less than two blocks from my home.

About: As a dog owner myself, I understand that pets are family. Whether it's keeping up with an energetic puppy, providing patience and comfort for a senior dog, or sticking to your pet's routine, I make sure they feel safe, loved, and cared for. I'm reliable, communicative, and committed to giving pet parents peace of mind while they're away. Pet care fits naturally into my daily routine, especially during the summer. As an Athletic Director on summer break, I have a flexible schedule that allows me to dedicate plenty of time and attention to the pets in my care. Whether it's walks, playtime, feeding, check-ins, or simply providing companionship, I can be available throughout the day to ensure your pet receives the care, exercise, and attention they deserve. I focus on creating a safe, comfortable, and stress-free environment for every pet. In a client's home, I follow their pet's normal routine as closely as possible, including feeding schedules, walks, playtime, medications (if needed), and plenty of attention and affection. If caring for pets in my home, I provide a clean, pet-friendly space with regular exercise, supervision, and opportunities for play and relaxation. My goal is to make pets feel secure, loved, and well cared for while giving owners peace of mind through reliable communication and updates.

Tamara was great from our first meet and greet. She put me at ease with her calm demeanor and her knowledge about dogs. Kahlo is a newly adopted dog so I am still anxious leaving her with others and Tamara answered all my questions and also shared knowledge about dogs which I still desperately need. She was quick to respond to my texts and gave me updates throughout the day. I felt at ease throughout my workday. Kahlo spent the day playing with her dog, Sidney and was happy and tired when I picked her up. I am very thankful I found Tamara. She is a true gem.

About: I LOVE dogs. I've had dogs my whole life, from childhood until now, and I absolutely love them. They're the most amazing companions, and I understand how deeply they're loved and how we just want them to be happy, healthy and safe. I am a writer and I work from home. I recently lost my beloved dog and am not ready to get a new one yet, but I figured I could help out another dog owner if they need daytime coverage or even a place for their dog to go when they're on a trip. I love neighborhood walks and have walked almost every kind of dog. I'd be happy to take your dog on a nice long walk. They can lounge around with me when I'm working at home or we can go out adventuring if they'd like. I have a small fenced yard and currently have no other pets. I work at home and like to keep the door open to our fenced backyard. Here, your dog can come and go outside as they please.

Frequently asked questions about Rover

The average cost for Doggy Day Care in Oakland on Rover is $49.95 per day (as of August 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.

Rover makes budgeting the cost of Doggy Day Care easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for Doggy Day Care. For more information on service fees, click here .

As of August 2026, there are 4,826 sitters on Rover offering Doggy Day Care across Oakland. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.

Sitters on Rover can offer flexible scheduling, so you can coordinate times that work best for you and your pet—whether that’s early drop-off or later pick-up to match your Oakland commute.

If your schedule changes, it’s best to let your sitter know through the app as early as possible. Many sitters can adjust pick-up and drop-off times when needed.

Think of doggy day care as your dog’s fun, supervised play date that happens to fit into your workday. Day care through Rover takes place in a real home. This offers a calmer and more personalized environment for your pup.

A typical day can include companionship, one-on-one attention, and same day pick-up and drop-off. Many sitters can also offer structured routines and exercise throughout the day. For recurring, weekly day care, sitters will include photo updates so you can see your dog in their element.

Here are tips for finding the ideal day care fit for your dog:

  • For some small dogs: In-home day care can be the perfect fit. Look for sitters whose "can host" section only lists dogs weighing 0–7 kilograms and/or 7–18 kilograms. During your Meet & Greet, ask about play areas based on dog size and energy level.
  • For high-energy dogs: The ideal doggy day care can offer scheduled breaks and outdoor spaces or activities. You can also find sitters who host multiple dogs to satisfy your pup’s socializing needs.
  • For dogs who prefer human-only companionship: Use the filters "Doesn't own a dog" and "Only accepts one pet at a time" to find the right care.

Play groups can be an option when you book with a day care sitter through Rover. Many sitters do host a small number of dogs at the same time. Smaller dog packs are generally safer, more fun, and ideal for dogs who enjoy playtime but also want to relax throughout the day. When looking for your dog’s pack, check the sitter’s profile to see if they "Accept multiple clients" or have their own dogs. Then during the Meet & Greet, you can see whether your dog is a good fit for their social circle!

While each sitter sets their own vaccine requirements, staying up-to-date on your dog’s vaccines is the best way to be "boarding ready". Vaccinations help create a safe environment for all pets under a sitter’s care.

Many sitters in CA ask that dogs be up to date on core vaccines like the Canine Parvovirus, Canine Distemper, Canine Adenovirus, Bordetella, and Rabies.

By discussing your pet's health history early, you’re adding a layer of confidence for you and your sitter before the booking begins.

Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.

Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .

The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.

All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.

A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your dog, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.

Yes, Rover is well-suited for finding sitters who can care for your pet within 24 hours. With 4,826 sitters in Oakland, 87% respond to messages in under an hour.

You can message multiple sitters simultaneously to find the fastest available match. If you need care today or tomorrow, you can look for sitters with a "calendar last updated" notice on their profiles.

Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.

Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.

If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
