About: i’ve cared for pets since i was young! what u like most is to have fun and make sure the animals feel happy and cared for! i love teaching new skills to pets that dont have training aswell! i’m working on gathering loyal customers to help me make this full time, i enjoy fresh air walks just as much as them. turning this into a full time job for me is amazing because it allows me to have a clear free mind, and will make my days go by easier i am very aware of everything that’s happening around me. its helps me stay conscious of what the pets are doing. in home care is fun because the pet is already in a space they know and are comfortable with and i try and make it know to them that im here to help them through our time together.

“Absolutely wonderful pet sitter! They took such great care of Nash and sent me tons of pictures, which I loved. Nash got to go to all the parks, spend time with his best friends, and clearly had an amazing time. It gave me so much peace of mind knowing he was happy, active, and so well cared for. I couldn’t have asked for a better sitter and will absolutely use them again and again. Highly recommend!”

About: Starting eight years ago with our energetic all-black German Shepherd, I have spent the last eight years reliably watching dogs for family, friends, and neighbors. I am currently only working part time. I usually work various shifts betweeb 6 to 3. The days I work change as well. I still have a lot of free time in between. Just check in with me to see if my availability matches the time you are requesting. Im looking forward to taking care of your furry child. 😊 Living in an apartment with nearby dog parks, I offer attentive, active in-home care, utilizing my extensive free time and eight years of experience to provide long daily walks and personalized attention.

“Christina saved the day with a last-minute change in request for dog sitting - she went out of her way to do a meet and greet the day before and to ensure that she had all the information needed to give Odelia the best care. So grateful!”

“Samantha was great with my two fur babies during the holidays: communicative and sending pics throughout the stay. She was also super patient with all of the security at my complex. Would definitely recommend to anyone who needs someone to look after their furry companions!”

“Sasha was fantastic. She was quick to respond and very communicative throughout the sit. Our puppy liked her right away and seemed to have a good experience with her. We highly recommend!”

“I can’t say enough about how great Kasey was watching over my 2 rambunctious kittens, but also my apartment. The place was super clean when I returned, maybe even more clean than how I left it. She was extremely responsive and gave me bi-daily updates with photos and videos of how they were doing. She played with them, cuddled with them, and genuinely enjoyed their company. And my kittens absolutely loved her. I felt so at ease being out of town. 10/10 I would hire her again to watch my cats and apartment. Thank you Kasey!”

About: Hi! I’m a lifelong dog lover with over 20 years of hands-on experience caring for dogs. I currently have a dog of my own and understand just how much our pets mean to us—they’re family. When I moved my dad to California so I could become his full-time caregiver, bringing his dog with us was never a question. He’s an important part of our family and daily life. I previously had another beloved dog from the age of 13 through 27, giving me experience with puppies, adult dogs, and seniors. I’m comfortable providing patient, attentive care and making sure each dog feels safe, loved, and well cared for while their owners are away. As someone who genuinely loves animals, I know how important it is to trust the person caring for your pet. Whether your dog needs a walk, playtime, or simply some extra companionship, I’ll treat them with the same care and attention I give my own. Pet care is already a natural part of my daily routine. I currently care for my own dog, so daily walks, feeding, playtime, and making sure he gets plenty of attention are already built into my schedule. Because I have a flexible schedule right now, I’m able to provide pets with extra attention, companionship, and care throughout the day rather than just fitting them in between other commitments. Whether it’s a walk, a drop-in visit, or keeping a pet company while their owner is away, I enjoy making sure they feel comfortable, safe, and loved. I believe every pet is happiest when their routine stays as consistent as possible. In a client’s home, I follow all care instructions closely, including feeding schedules, walks, medications (if needed), playtime, and any household rules. I also make sure pets receive plenty of attention, affection, and exercise while their owners are away. For walks and drop-in visits, I prioritize safety, communication, and making sure each pet’s individual needs are met. I understand that every animal has a different personality and comfort level, so I take the time to build trust and help them feel secure. As a pet owner myself, I know how important it is to have peace of mind when someone else is caring for your pet, and I treat every animal as if they were my own.

“Barbara was fantastic. She took excellent care of our dog and our house. She sent us pictures everyday and let us know how things were going. She took our doggie on regular walks and cared for him as if he were hers. He was a very happy dog when we got home. I highly recommend Barbara!!”

“Very reliable sitter. We’ve booked with Vanclee multiple times and Hampton is always well taken care of. Communication is consistent, dependable, and it gives us peace of mind knowing Hampton is in good hands. Highly recommend.”

“Matthew was able to watch Charlie last minute and was great to work with. Matthew kept me updated, sent pictures, and Charlie seemed very happy and well cared for. Will definitely book again!”

About: I love all the dogs and have been walking dogs and house sitting for over 20 years. I was a pup parent for many years to my ride or die Colonel Peanut who passed in 2020. Point Isabel is one of my favorite places! I love meeting new pups and dog walking and sitting is a joy because I get to hang with dogs and be outside. I work from home and have a very flexible schedule to fit your pets needs. I can accommodate last minute booking so please don’t hesitate to reach out. I know what it’s like to be a pet parent so I will treat your pet or home as my own. I will make sure all the check boxes are checked like refilling water, sharing snacks and cleaning litter or going for walks.
“Ryan was a wonderful pet sitter. He was attentive communicative sweet and kind with my dog Sammy. Sammy loves Ryan and we will definitely use Ryan whenever we have to be away.”

About: I offer a quieter, more individualized kind of dog sitting. I only take dogs from one household at a time, so your dog won’t be sharing the space with a rotating group of other dogs. That allows me to give them a lot of individual attention and to keep their routine as familiar as possible. I’m a licensed acupuncturist and a therapist in training, so being reliable and observant is a big part of my professional life. I’m also very conscientious about following your instructions closely. I know how much the little details matter, and I make a point of keeping track of feeding schedules, medications, walks, sleeping arrangements, and the routines that help your dog feel at home. I have firsthand experience caring for an anxious dog who later developed dementia and physical limitations. Because of that, I’m especially comfortable with senior dogs and dogs who are sensitive or easily overwhelmed. I understand how much patience and consistency can matter when a dog needs extra support. I’m especially available on weekends, when I can spend plenty of time with your dog rather than fitting visits around a packed schedule. Depending on their personality and energy level, we might have a quiet day at home, take neighborhood walks, or head out to places like Piedmont Park, the Albany Bulb, or the beach. I want your dog to feel comfortable and cared for while you’re away, and I want you to feel completely confident that someone is really paying attention to them. Pet care fits best into my schedule on weekends, when I have plenty of time to give dogs attention, walks, companionship, and a relaxed home environment. I’m generally available from Friday evening through Sunday and can often accommodate weekend boarding or daytime care. During the week I work a regular professional schedule, so I’m intentional about only accepting bookings when I know I can provide the time and attention a pet needs. When a dog is staying with me, I want them to be part of my routine rather than squeezed into it. I take safety and trust seriously and make a point of following each pet’s normal routine as closely as possible. In my home, I provide a calm, comfortable environment and make sure dogs have appropriate supervision, regular walks and potty breaks, fresh water, and plenty of attention. I’m careful about feeding instructions, medications, leash safety, and any behavioral or health concerns you share with me. I also like to know about a dog’s personality, triggers, routines, and preferences ahead of time so I can help them feel comfortable and settled. If I’m caring for a pet in your home, I’m respectful of your space and follow your instructions closely. I’m also happy to send updates and photos so you know how your pet is doing while you’re away.
“Chloe was amazing!! They stayed with my senior cat for a week and kept my all my plants (indoor and outdoor) alive and thriving. They were very communicative and detail oriented also sent pictures and updates morning and night. The house looked even better then when I left it and my cat didn’t even seem to notice I was gone. I would definitely recommend Chloe for any of your pet or plant needs! Thank you Chloe!!”

“Jordan was amazing with my dogs. I have an energetic Olde English Bulldog and a big Saint Bernard that’s picky about who he trusts and she did very well with them. Took them on lots of walks outside and sent tons of cute photos while I was out. She even made an adorable hand drawn card of the two of them. I would highly recommend her if you need someone to watch your dogs at your place.”

About: Hi, I’m Alicia! 🐈⬛🐶❤️ I’ve always had a natural connection with animals and have experience caring for both cats and dogs, including feeding, walking, playtime, companionship, cleaning, and making sure they feel safe and comfortable in their environment. I’m currently offering personalized pet care in the Bay Area, with a special focus on cats who may prefer a calm, cozy home environment over a traditional boarding facility. My home is set up with cat-friendly essentials including water fountains, scratchers, climbing spaces, cozy resting areas, toys, and enrichment. I keep my capacity small so each pet gets plenty of individual attention rather than feeling lost in a crowded environment. Before each stay, I like to learn your pet’s routine, personality, feeding schedule, bathroom habits, favorite activities, triggers, medications, and anything else that helps them feel at home. I’m happy to communicate through text, phone, or email to make the process convenient. I understand that pet care needs can come up for vacations, work, moving, temporary housing situations, emergencies, or simply when you need an extra hand. I’m open to discussing both short- and longer-term care depending on your pet’s needs. Whether your fur baby is playful, shy, independent, cuddly, energetic, or somewhere in between, my goal is to make their time with me feel safe, comfortable, and loved. 🏡🐾 I’d love the opportunity to meet you and your furry family member! I have a flexible schedule that allows me to dedicate plenty of time to pet care throughout the day. I’m available for boarding and care on weekdays and weekends, with time for walks, play, feeding, bathroom breaks, companionship, and individual attention. I provide a clean, calm, pet-friendly environment where safety and comfort come first. I take time to learn each pet’s routine, personality, feeding schedule, exercise needs, and any special instructions. I carefully supervise pets in my care and keep their space clean, comfortable, and secure.
“Mish was great with my cat Dilly for a two week house sit! This was the first time I’ve left him for longer than a weekend, and I knew he’d be in good hands after meeting. They sent lots of photos and updates, and my apartment was well taken care of, too. Thanks again!”

“Linette took great care of our dogs! We appreciate that she sent updates and pictures everyday to let us know that our girls are safe, active and happy. We will definitely ask her to come back.”

The median cost per night for house sitting in Oakland is $75
Pet parents share their Rover experiences - Oakland
Cameron was swell. He came very often and always left great updates and photos. It was the first time I left my 1 year old orange male cat Ace so I was a bit nervous. Also because Ace is a ‘wobbly’ cat with some movement issues, of which he is completely unaware. But Cameron was wonderful with him and my Tibetian Terrier Dorjie (Tibetan for Lightening Bolt) and both really enjoyed his visits.

Linett was very communicative and professional from the very beginning. My dog, Goose, has a little bit of separation anxiety and from the 1st meet and greet I could tell he felt comfortable with her. During the booking, she kept Goose company for a few hours while I was out, took him to play and was flexible with her time. She provided updates and pictures of Goose during her stay with him which put me at ease. Will definitely book with Linett again!

Our dog had a fabulous time with Rich, and we feel very lucky to have booked him! He clearly knows how to handle eccentric doggies and accommodate their needs and little quirks. Rich seemed to go above and beyond to make sure Leo felt comfortable with him. We felt confident that Leo was well taken care of from start to finish. I hope that next time we are out of town that we are able to book Rich! Rich is also very easy to communicate with, and our house looked exactly how we left it.

Jess is amazing! Jess did a wonderful job with our three pups. Our dogs are very energetic and have specific needs. Jess did an excellent job making sure they were all well taken care of. Our house was also in excellent condition. 100% recommend working with Jess.

Nicole was extremely communicative, and sent detailed updates and photos of Cash often. She was great at letting me know when food or treats were running low, and even took extra care when my return flight was delayed. Cash seemed very relaxed with her, and I felt positively that she was providing him good attention and care.

Elisa was so communicative, and absolutely lovely to both us and to our bunny Oscar. The photos were such a relief to see, and her daily updates were so thorough. She helped out around the house when she was there even though she didn’t have to. We would absolutely ask her to come back if she’s ever available!

Ashley is wonderful for both day sits and overnights. She takes the best care of our dog, administering daily medication and following special care when needed. She is a great communicator and we feel at ease when our Ruthie is left in her care. Thanks Ashley!

Lucy is such a warm and attentive pet sitter for my puppy, and I am so glad to have found her! She is punctual, professional, responsive, and happy to share information about her time with my pup. She also clearly knows so much about animals, I feel great about leaving my fur baby with her. She is gentle and kind with my sensitive dog, and she truly seems to enjoy being with her, which feels great! Highly recommend Lucy!

Frequently asked questions about Rover
The average cost for House Sitting in Oakland on Rover is $69.61 per night (as of September 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.
Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .
As of September 2026, there are 8,622 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Oakland. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.
Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Oakland walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Oakland maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Oakland choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Oakland. On Rover:
- 92% of sitters can help with special care needs
- 95% can help with giving oral medications or injections
- 95% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
