“We are so happy to have found David & Mabel. They stayed in our house and took care of our dog while we were away for 10 days. The house was spotless when we return and our dog seemed to have a very good time with them! They are caring, trustworthy, friendly, and communicative. We are definitely planning to work with them again in the future!”

“Our puppy Murphy is a big energetic boy who loves to get into mischief. Kat did a great job with him, and he was a happy boy when we got home. Since this was our first time leaving him with someone else, I was very relieved that he did so well with her. I would definitely trust her again to watch our boy!”

“If there were 6 stars, I'd give them to Hollie. She is the epitome of conscientious, responsible, and caring. Our flight home was delayed and she even changed her plans so she could stay longer. Our shih tzu loves being with her - from a drop-in walk to a 3-night stay - and we're eager to have Hollie back as soon as our next need arises. I cannot recommend this sitter more highly.”

“Nicole was fantastic. She was so patient with my two maniacs, sent plenty of pictures and updates, was punctual, professional and communicative. I highly recommend her for all of your pet needs and look forward to her sitting with Henley and Jones again!”

“Wow! What an incredible sitter Hong was. This is the first time I have ever been away from my fur babies and not worried once. She was so communicative the entire time and I came back to happy dogs and a pristine house. If I could give her 10 stars I would! Thank you again Hong. ❤️”

About: i’ve cared for pets since i was young! what u like most is to have fun and make sure the animals feel happy and cared for! i love teaching new skills to pets that dont have training aswell! i’m working on gathering loyal customers to help me make this full time, i enjoy fresh air walks just as much as them. turning this into a full time job for me is amazing because it allows me to have a clear free mind, and will make my days go by easier i am very aware of everything that’s happening around me. its helps me stay conscious of what the pets are doing. in home care is fun because the pet is already in a space they know and are comfortable with and i try and make it know to them that im here to help them through our time together.
About: Aside from owning my own dogs for over 10 years, I have worked as a professional pet-sitter and dog-walker for 2 years. I make sure to be intentional with how I spend my time with your loved one and bring them back feeling cared for and hopefully tired! I'm currently a part-time student, so I will have lot's of time to dedicate to your pet! I am mostly available to sit or walk on weekdays between 12 - 8 pm but if this time frame doesn't work, feel free to send me a message and I would be happy to accommodate you! I make sure to keep an eye on them at all times and will diligently follow whatever rules or other safety precautions you have inside or outside your home. I am loving yet respectful of their space, and comfortable with different types of pets and personalities.
“Nicole was a responsible, experienced, and caring sitter for Elsa when we were abroad. She provided regular updates on how Elsa was doing and we came back to a happy pet. Thank you Nicole!”

“Ryan was a wonderful pet sitter. He was attentive communicative sweet and kind with my dog Sammy. Sammy loves Ryan and we will definitely use Ryan whenever we have to be away.”

About: I have pet sat several different dogs, cats and bunnies. I work from home and I am able to stay and take care of animals for weeks at a time. I’ve had two family dogs of medium size and love them very much. I ensure that I will treat your animals like my own with kindness and love. I work from home so I am able to house sit and pet sit for as long as needed. As long as I have access to Wi-Fi, I will be able to stay for long periods of time. I will take dogs out on walks twice a day (morning and evening) and give them frequent potty brakes. I will ensure that water is filled and they are fed on a regular schedule. I have experience serving dogs, wet and dry food along with prescribed medication. I have one dog at home right now. Since I live with my dad, there is always someone to take care of him while i’m away. I take my dog on daily walks and feed him on a regular schedule. When he is prescribed medicine, I feed him with a treat which he enjoys.

“Absolutely wonderful pet sitter! They took such great care of Nash and sent me tons of pictures, which I loved. Nash got to go to all the parks, spend time with his best friends, and clearly had an amazing time. It gave me so much peace of mind knowing he was happy, active, and so well cared for. I couldn’t have asked for a better sitter and will absolutely use them again and again. Highly recommend!”

“I can’t say enough about how great Kasey was watching over my 2 rambunctious kittens, but also my apartment. The place was super clean when I returned, maybe even more clean than how I left it. She was extremely responsive and gave me bi-daily updates with photos and videos of how they were doing. She played with them, cuddled with them, and genuinely enjoyed their company. And my kittens absolutely loved her. I felt so at ease being out of town. 10/10 I would hire her again to watch my cats and apartment. Thank you Kasey!”

“Irina stayed at my place to house-sit with my cat Penny again. As always, Irina is super reliable and communicative, leaves the apartment in great condition, and takes great care of Penny. She takes regular photos, gives updates, and is flexible. Highly recommend booking her!”

“Ridhi was super helpful taking care of my pup. My flight was delayed and she stepped up to pick up Frida from another location and bring her home. I was incommunicado on a flight and she just did it without me asking or booking it or anything like that because she's that just kind of person. Totally above and beyond!”

About: I’ve owned pets since I was a kid. My family has always been big dog family, but I’ve also taken care of many cats. I would love to have a pet of my own, but as a college student it is just not possible. Please reach out if you’re looking for help! I am mostly available on weekends because I have to juggle classes and my day job. But depending on your schedule I am more than willing to try to make something work! I love to walk/run with dogs and the area I am in is incredibly safe for a nice jog! I’m here for your pet’s ultimate safety and enjoyment so I try to make the most out of our time together!
“Matthew was able to watch Charlie last minute and was great to work with. Matthew kept me updated, sent pictures, and Charlie seemed very happy and well cared for. Will definitely book again!”

“He followed all of my instructions to a T and was a great house guest. I really appreciate how fast he communicated with me throughout the process. My dog normally barks at people and his calm presence was a nice fit to keep Kuta calm.”

Pet parents share their Rover experiences - Orinda
Elizabeth was great with our animals - a big girl dog and two cats. She was very respectful of our space - it looked as clean as we’d left it. More importantly, our animals were very very happy when we got home! She sent good daily updates - wonderful communicator. We highly recommend and would welcome her back to our home.

We had a meet and greet with Sumaira for our need to have doggie care, cat care and house sitting for a week. Sumaira has lots of experience and confidence which put us at ease. Our senior cat requires daily meds 2xs per day and our newly adopted 5 y.o. Golden can be rambunctious- Sumaira was at ease caring for both. Our home was well taken care of and she even helped with an unexpected delivery. We received daily pictures and reassurances that all was well. We recommend Sumaira and will ask her to help us again soon.

David and Mabel took excellent care of our 2 year old lab. It was great knowing our puppy was comfortable at home with professional and thoughtful care. They understand dogs, how to care for them and the importance of communicating with the pet parents. Our home was left cleaner than when we left, which we greatly appreciated! We will definitely continue to use them when we are away!

Amila is amazing! She was very communicative, sending photos and updates frequently. She’s very trustworthy and kind, and I think our pup had a wonderful time with her at our home. She took him for walks more frequently than we even asked for and spent so much time with our dog that we were able to relax a little while we were away, without feeling worried. Amila is wonderful and we will rebook for sure. Thanks Amila!!!
Davina and her family were excellent caregivers for Cloud and Princess. Davina was great communicating with us while we were gone. Our home looks just as it did when we left, except better because she brought in packages that had been delivered by Amazon and placed the mail on the kitchen table. We could tell that our dogs had been fed, walked, and loved in our absence, because they were happy to see us when we came home, but not needy. We hope they can do all of our dog sitting in the future!

Michael W took good care of our cuddly, chill dog Lou while we were out of town for five days. He took Lou on many walks and left the house spotless. He was also very responsive with photos and updates, and helped out with plant watering etc. A very nice fellow, and so responsible! We highly recommend!
Michael is an amazing house and pet sitter! This was first time we left our German Shepard with someone other than family. Our dog doesn’t generally warm up to people but he immediately bonded with Michael. He took excellent care of our home and gave our dog lots of love and attention. He kept in touch daily and sent photos which gave me total peace of mind. I would absolutely recommend him!

Frequently asked questions about Rover
The average cost for House Sitting in Orinda on Rover is $88.8 per night (as of September 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.
Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .
As of September 2026, there are 8,713 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Orinda. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.
Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Orinda walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Orinda maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Orinda choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Orinda. On Rover:
- 92% of sitters can help with special care needs
- 95% can help with giving oral medications or injections
- 95% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
