Alexis is a fantastic dog sitter!! She stayed with our golden retriever for 8 days while we were out of town. Throughout the week, she was communicative, sending pics every day and detailing what they had done together (walks, balls, toys). At the end of the week, she left a detailed note to highlight anything else we needed to know. I so appreciated the level of detail she provided and the clear care she put into taking care of our dog. He’s a part of our family and I’ve never trusted anyone but family with him. We’ll now trust Alexis with him every time! Highly recommend her if you are looking for a communicative, responsible, compassionate dog sitter who will treat your dog like their own.

Vicki did a phenomenal job taking care of our boy Mylo. Mylo had to get some emergency stitches the day before we were going out of town. Vicki handled his care perfectly, sent us regular updates and dealt with all the drama that comes with Mylo having to wear a cone. We cannot thank her enough and absolutely would recommend her to everyone else.

About: Hello, my name is Emily and I would love to help you with your animal care needs. I have been around animals throughout my life and have always really enjoyed each unique personality. For my own pets, I have experience with (some would say) difficult animals but have always persevered. Whether it be my crazy cocker spaniel, high energy cattledogs, or hissy maine coon, I am up for any challenge. Every size, shape, color, personality... they are all so cute and have the sweetest hearts. I am responsible and dependable, and you can count on me to treat your pets with the same gentle care you would provide. I currently have a pretty flexible schedule and am therefore available most days and times for walks and drop-in visits. My booking availability reflects my current schedule. I care for all pets with kindness and patience. I know that animals may have anxiety with other people and I take that into account when caring for your loved pet.

Leaving our dogs at home is always the hardest part of traveling, and we naturally worry about them. We’re so glad we found Efraim and the dogs absolutely love him! He did a wonderful job taking care of them while we were away. He was also very patient with our senior dog, who can be quite picky and slow with food, which we truly appreciated. We loved the updates he sent, gave us so much peace of mind while we were away. Thank you so much, Efraim! We truly appreciate the care you gave our dogs and will definitely book with him again in the future.

We were very nervous to leave our pup for a week. Since Covid, we haven’t been apart from him very much. Jessica was reassuring from the beginning. She took such good care of our sweet pup! We got daily updates, photos and Jessica was quick to reply anytime we texted. We could tell that Gus was comfortable and loved having Jessica with him. We have already rebooked for another week in July! We highly recommend Jessica for your pet sitting needs!

Virginia was a lifesaver! We needed a dog/house sitter last minute, and she gladly accepted without hesitation. She even showed up at 5 AM when we were panicking about our puppy Chico barking and the neighbors possibly complaining. That alone already meant so much to us. She took such great care of Chico, played with him, kept him entertained, and he genuinely seemed to have an amazing time with her. We came home to a happy pup and a clean house, which says everything about how thoughtful and responsible she is. We’re super grateful for her help and would absolutely book her again. Highly recommended! 💛🐾

I approach each day with patience, reliability, and a calm energy that animals respond to. Your pets’ comfort and well-being are always my top priority. Whether I’m caring for pets in my home or yours, I do everything I can to make sure they feel safe, comfortable, and loved. In my home, pets are treated like part of the family. I offer a cozy, clean, and peaceful space where they can relax, play, and enjoy lots of one-on-one attention. About: Hi! I’m a 22 year old recent graduate from Cal Poly. I’m a dedicated pet lover and used to have a dachshund of my own, so I know how important it is to leave your pet in good hands. I’ve spent a lot of time pet sitting for friends/family, and I always make it a priority to keep pets comfortable, active, and loved. Whether your pet needs long walks, playtime, or just some extra cuddles, I’m here to help! I currently work remotely part-time, which gives me a very flexible schedule. I’m available 7 days a week and can often accommodate last-minute bookings, so feel free to reach out anytime! I prioritize safety, trust, and a calm environment when caring for pets. I have a fenced backyard where pets can safely spend time outside, and I always supervise outdoor time. I make sure pets get regular walks, exercise, and plenty of attention based on their individual needs. During walks, I keep dogs on a secure leash with properly fitted collars or harnesses, stay aware of our surroundings, and avoid unsafe or overly busy areas. I adjust each walk to your pet’s energy level and make sure they stay comfortable and safe. In a client’s home, I respect your space and follow all routines and instructions to keep your pet feeling secure and well cared for.

About: I’ve spent years caring for others through nannying and customer service roles, so being dependable, attentive, and patient comes naturally to me. I have experience working at a veterinary hospital as a receptionist and have done pet sitting for a few years now. I truly love being around animals and make sure every pet feels safe, comfortable, and loved while their owners are away. I also enjoy staying active with walks, playtime, and giving pets plenty of companionship and affection. I'm currently working part time so my schedule is very flexible at the moment. I'm hoping to mainly focus on building my pet sitting business. When caring for pets in a client’s home, I do my best to keep their routine as normal and comfortable as possible. I follow all feeding, walking, medication, and care instructions carefully while making sure pets get plenty of attention, playtime, and companionship. I understand that being away from their owners can be stressful for some pets, so I focus on creating a calm, safe, and loving environment while keeping owners updated with messages and photos.

About: I have had and cared for pets since childhood, rescuing (literally from the streets) a lovely pitbull named Olive when I lived in Philadelphia. Moved to CA in May 2026 from East Coast. I recently moved to CA to support my wife’s new job in SF. I have a fully open schedule at the moment and with a love of animals I thought that this would be a better way to learn and love my new community than digging through online job ads. I am willing to sit, play, walk, feed and care for your pets as needed. I’m an active (formerly collegiate) runner and can go as fast or slowly as your pet needs. I have reliable transportation and experience in pet first aid as I recently completed my tenure as an Emergency Manager with the American Red Cross.

We had a wonderful experience with Tina, who cared for our dog Berkeley for two weeks while we were on vacation. From the start, she took the time to meet with me for a meet-and-greet, which really helped ensure it was a good fit for everyone—especially considering the specific needs of our elderly dog. While we were away, Tina communicated consistently and thoughtfully, sending photos and videos that gave us great peace of mind. It meant so much to see that Berkeley was comfortable, happy, and well cared for in our absence. Tina stayed in our home during that time, and we returned to everything just as we had left it—clean, organized, and clearly well respected. It was such a relief to come home to a happy dog and a well-kept house. I would absolutely trust Tina again and highly recommend her to anyone looking for a reliable, caring, and communicative dog sitter.

Kelly is one of a kind! First, she took the time and effort to meet up with us before the sit to make sure everything was clear and comfortable. She is very communicative (sent photos and updates regularly) and timely in her responses regarding scheduling. Murray was happy and calm when we got home, and the house was perfect. I never once felt anxious with Kelly at the house with him. Thank you Kelly!

We had a meet and greet with Sumaira for our need to have doggie care, cat care and house sitting for a week. Sumaira has lots of experience and confidence which put us at ease. Our senior cat requires daily meds 2xs per day and our newly adopted 5 y.o. Golden can be rambunctious- Sumaira was at ease caring for both. Our home was well taken care of and she even helped with an unexpected delivery. We received daily pictures and reassurances that all was well. We recommend Sumaira and will ask her to help us again soon.

We were out of the country for two weeks over the holidays. Amber stayed in our home and she was absolutely wonderful with our pup, Alli. She went above and beyond in every way. From daily walks to fun hikes, Amber made sure Alli stayed active, happy, and engaged. She even taught her new tricks — something Alli was very proud to show off when we returned! Amber also gave Alli a bath, kept her looking fresh, and sent us regular photos and videos that brightened our days and gave us complete peace of mind. It was clear how much love and attention she put into caring for her. On top of that, Amber kept our home spotless and secure. Coming back to a clean house and a joyful dog was such a gift. I highly recommend Amber to anyone looking for a trustworthy, caring, and truly outstanding dog sitter. Alli adored her, and so did we. Amber will be our go to person moving forward to watch Alli whenever we travel out of town. Thank you for everything, Amber. :)

FAQs for House Sitting - Lafayette

Frequently asked questions about Rover

The average cost for House Sitting in Lafayette on Rover is $89.91 per night (as of August 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.

Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .

As of August 2026, there are 8,797 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Lafayette. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:

  • Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
  • Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
  • Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
  • Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.

The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Lafayette walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.

It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Lafayette maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:

  • Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
  • Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
  • Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.

Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!

Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Lafayette choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!

The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.

All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.

Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.

Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .

If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.

For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.

Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.

A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.

Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.

Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.

If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.

Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Lafayette. On Rover:

  • 92% of sitters can help with special care needs
  • 95% can help with giving oral medications or injections
  • 96% can help with daily exercise

You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.

Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
