“Our Gracie kitty said it was another wonderful stay with Aunt Tania! When we returned, everything was clean, the plants thriving, and Gracie happy as can be. We can never express our appreciation for what Tania does - knowing our home and our fur-baby are well cared for while we are gone is worth everything.”

“Rachael was AMAZING! Your fur babies are in great hands with her. She was extremely attentive to all the special care our senior kitty needed, was quick to reply and easy to get ahold of, and did a fantastic job with all the little extra house tasks while we were away for a few days. Cannot recommend her enough!”

“Ray was awesome! Very communicative with us and patient with our dog who is not your average fido (dog reactive, full of energy, etc). We will definitely be booking with Ray again!”

“Hi Kristi, thank you so much. You were incredible this past week with our two lovebugs, they are small but they have their own mighty quirks that can be a bit to care for, and they were happy walked and loved on when we returned. I was so grateful at how reliable you were, since it was my first time asking for house/pet sitting, and humbled by the way you went above and beyond caring not just for the pups but for the house. Really so lucky to have found you and I look forward to next time. Thanks for making a much needed trip away possible.”

“Luna is a total pro! My dog loved her and she gave me regular updates. She kept my place in great order and was a dream houseguest. You can trust Luna to take good care of your fur baby. I’ll definitely book her again.”

“Mason did a great job on an overnight with our cat and dog. Very good communication, loved receiving happy pictures and the house was left in immaculate condition. Can’t wait to use him again.”

“Josephine is one of the most reliable sitters we’ve hired in our years on Rover - she’s always responsive & does a very good job with our paraplegic chocolate lab. She takes great photos & I can tell our pup really enjoyed her care & her company whenever they’re together!”

“Laurena did such a wonderful job with our anxious, reactive chihuahua mix. She sent us tons of photos and updates while we were away, and even got Kyber to go for a walk! It was so reassuring knowing Kyber was in such good hands. We'd recommend Laurena to anyone. 😊”

“Derek took great care of Toddy while at our house for the day. He sent us lots of updates from their time hanging out and their walks. We appreciate how Derek always sees the best in Toddy and works with Toddy to alleviate his insecurities.”

“Maria is terrific. She arrived on time and immediately bonded with our dog. She gave him lots of attention and took him for a walk. When we returned home, he was cuddled up against her. She also kept our house neat and clean. I highly recommend her.”

“Yesica looked after our fur baby Koa during 4th of July weekend. She was great. I got updates and pictures throughout the weekend which was great. She was very responsive when booking. I will definitely book her again.”

“Dogs were completely chill when we came back, which is a sign that they were happy and taken care of. Katherine was easy to work with and a great communicator. I'd happily use her again.”

“Sofia was a delight to work with! She took great care of our Oliver who is admittedly not always the quickest to warm up to people. Sofia provided great updates, and also took great care of our house. We would love to have her pet sit for Oliver again!”

About: Small or large, reactive or secure, your dog will feel at home with me. For the last 10+ years I have been pet sitting and walking my neighbor's pets and this summer I'd like to expand my reach to the rest of the East Bay. I have experience administering medication, cooking food for pets, and making dogs feel at ease in my presence. In the last year or so I have picked up some dog training, and I would be happy to incorporate some of this training into my walks with your pup. Summer 2026 will be an extremely flexible time for me to pick up pet walking/sitting gigs. I have a dog of my own that will join dog walks only if my client is okay with it. I have a fenced yard and a housemate who works from home and loves dogs as well. I make sure my dog gets plenty of time outside and some movement throughout her day.

“Hong was wonderful with our puppy. She kept us up to date with frequent pictures and was so kind and loving to him. He really enjoyed having her care for him and was extremely happy the whole time. I highly recommend her if you are looking for the best care for your pet.”

About: I grew up surrounded by dogs and cats since birth and have spent my whole life building a deep understanding of animal behavior and care. Growing up, my family raised two litters of puppies, giving me hands-on experience with everything from newborn care to socialization and training throughout various life stages. I currently share my home with three dogs of my own and regularly care for friends' cats and dogs, both in my home and theirs. I'm comfortable with dogs of all sizes, from small lap dogs to large breeds, and know that each comes with its own personality, energy level, and needs. People tell me I'm not just a dog person but also someone dogs are drawn to. Cats have been a constant in my life just as long as dogs have. I know how to read their cues, respect their space, and earn their trust on their own terms. I genuinely love every stage of a pet's life and know how to meet each animal where they are, whether that's an energetic puppy, a curious cat, or a laid-back senior. I’ve worked in human crisis intervention for over 6 years, which means I stay calm under pressure and know how to respond quickly and clearly when something unexpected happens. That same steady, caring approach is what I bring to every pet I look after. I do Rover to supplement my nonprofit career, so when I take on your pet it's because I genuinely want to be here, not because I have to be. Your pet won't just be cared for, they'll feel right at home! I work from home on a flexible schedule that I set myself, which means I'm present with your pet throughout the day rather than leaving them alone for long stretches. We have a fenced yard for outdoor time and can separate pets as needed, so your animal has a safe, comfortable space even with my own dogs in the home. Your pet’s safety and comfort are my top priority. I treat every pet like they're my own. My home is pet-proofed with a fenced yard, and I can separate animals as needed so everyone has their own safe space alongside my own dogs. I always want to know your pet's routine, quirks, and preferences ahead of time so I can keep things as normal and comfortable as possible for them. With a lifetime of experience with dogs and cats of all ages and sizes, I'm confident handling whatever comes up, and my crisis intervention background means I stay calm and act fast if an emergency arises.
“Harold is such a sweet & kind soul - a great caregiver for our paraplegic pup, Zulu. Caring for a dog with special needs that go beyond the usual care required for abled dogs is never easy! There’s always a bit of a learning curve to manually expressing a bladder & utilizing mobility aids. But Harold took that challenge in stride for our Zulu & rocked a long-term house-sitting stay with her. We can back home for our trip to a tired but satisfied pup, who clearly had a good time with her new Rover bestie. Harold’s transparent communication throughout kept our minds at ease, and he was flexible & accommodating as well. Highly recommend!”

Pet parents share their Rover experiences - El Cerrito
Rong has house/pet sat for us twice now. We have two labradoodles and a small flock of chickens. Rong is great about communication and following instructions. She took good care of all our pets and made sure all their needs were met. She also communicated daily with me and provided photos to show how our pups and chickens were doing while we were away. We were very happy with her services and plan to ask her to house/pet sit again in the future!
Maria was incredibly conscientious and reached out before the booking to confirm all the details. Throughout my trip, she checked in regularly and sent the sweetest photos of my dog, Sadie, which gave me so much peace of mind. When I returned home, my house was spotless, and it was obvious that Sadie had been well cared for and loved. She was an absolute delight to work with, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend her to anyone looking for a trustworthy, caring pet sitter. In fact, I've already booked her again for my next trip!

Danielle is fantastic. She took time to get to know our dog before we left the country for a week and asked a lot of questions. She gave our very active 3-year-old pit bull plenty of attention, exercise and love. She also kept us up to date on how things were going and sent photos. We returned home to find a happy and relaxed dog. Danielle is also extremely personable and cool. I plan to hire her again when we need someone to take care of our dog. Hire with total confidence.

Hazar was wonderful!! She came over ahead of time to meet me and my dog, and I immediately felt comfortable with her. She is very responsive and responsible. She was excellent at communicating both before she came to stay and during her stay. I appreciated the photos she sent of my dog during her time here. She was able to follow all the instructions I had written and took good care of Bella! Hazar is very friendly and kind and I know my dog enjoyed her being there. I would have her back again in a heartbeat.

Kirsten was absolutely amazing! Not only did she take fantastic care of our animals, but she even managed to teach our 100lb dog some much-needed manners. We really appreciated her excellent communication, especially all the cute photos and videos she sent while we were away. She was also incredibly respectful of our home and left everything in pristine condition. We are so grateful and hope to have her back soon!

Laura was a great dog sitter to my dog and her best friend––two reactive pups! Laura was patient with their quirks and figured out their personalities quickly. Photo updates and texts during the day put at ease and also made us aware that Laura was taking the pups on great walks! In addition to watching the dogs, Laura housesat at my house and left the place in great condition. We will be returning to Laura for our care needs in the future, for sure! Highly recommend.

Professional and kind from start to finish! Sofia took the time to meet Olive ahead of watching her and kept me updated with messages and pictures the day of. She left my apt exactly how I left it and I could tell Olive had a great time. Would definitely book her again!

Tania has been our primary pet sitter for the past two years and we cannot say enough positive things about our experience working with her! She is amazingly warm, kind, thoughtful, and above all professional! She genuinely cares about our dog, Ernie and takes exceptional care of him. He is a senior dog and is both blind and mostly deaf, but Tania is always thinking of ways to engage and stimulate him - to make sure he has the most positive experience possible. Tania has watched him at our home multiple times, including most recently when we took a 20-day trip to Ireland. We were able to leave our precious fur-kid in Tania’s care with absolutely zero concerns. Not only does Tania take outstanding care of our dog, but she also takes meticulous care of our home. She waters our plants as needed, feeds our backyard squirrels and birds, and ensures that everything is even cleaner and better than we left it. We are so grateful to have found Tania and absolutely love having her care for our dog, Ernie. Tania is simply the best!

Nastasia was amazing with our two dogs and cat. My older dog can become anxious when we leave, but from the photos Nastasia took during her stay, and my dog's greeting when we came home, it was clear she was well taken care of and felt safe. I will definitely be asking Nastasia to house sit for us again!

We’re so grateful to Sam for the excellent care our dogs received. Our younger dog can be a handful, and Sam was so good with managing his big personality! We appreciated the clear communication both before and during our days away. We would definitely have Sam dog/housesit again!

Roshi was very attentive to the needs of my dog who has some behavioral problems. She understood her needs and paid attention to what helped and what triggered her. She has really great energy that my dog picked up on instantly when she met her and absolutely loves her! I felt so carefree and comforted during my vacation knowing that Roshi was caring for my pet as if it was hers. She’s the absolute best! Can’t wait to have her watch Cocoa again!

FAQs for House Sitting - El Cerrito
Frequently asked questions about Rover
The average cost for House Sitting in El Cerrito on Rover is $69.93 per night (as of July 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.
Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .
As of July 2026, there are 8,249 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across El Cerrito. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.
Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred El Cerrito walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in El Cerrito maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in El Cerrito choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in El Cerrito. On Rover:
- 92% of sitters can help with special care needs

- 96% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
