Alexandra went well above and beyond what we asked her to do for our cat, as well as our fish tank and tortoise. She cleaned, took out trash, washed pet bowls, and more. She was thorough, organized, and very patient with our anxious kitty. A genuine animal lover.

Harriet's help taking care of my 4 medium size dogs was great and without any problems. A big relief to have a close by neighbor to count on. She was very flexible on drop-in's and walk time/duration. The text and pic updates really helped ease any concerns over being away. And she even helped out longer than expected when my return travel was delayed. Will be glad to have her look after everyone any time. Thanks Harriet!

About: Hi there! My name is Nadine and I'm a passionate dog lover/ pup parent with 8 years of experience raising a dog and 2 years experience of fostering dogs. From volunteering at local animal sanctuaries and pup events to working as a professional dog sitter, my love for these furry friends has only grown over the years. I truly believe that dogs are more than just pets; they're members of the family. That's why I'm committed to providing the best possible care for each and every dog that comes my way. Whether it's taking long walks, playing fetch, or just giving them plenty of cuddles and belly rubs, I'm dedicated to making sure your furry friend feels happy, safe, and loved while they're in my care. So if you're looking for a reliable, experienced dog sitter who will treat your pup like their own, look no further! I can't wait to meet you and your furry friend soon. Pet care is an essential part of my daily routine. I am dedicated to ensuring that my furbabies and furbaby guests receive the best possible care while in my care. This includes providing regular exercise, feeding on schedule, administering any necessary medication, training and giving lots of love and attention. In addition to my daily routine, I also have a weekly schedule that includes regular grooming, cleaning of living spaces, and any other necessary tasks to keep my fur babies and fur guests happy and healthy. Overall, my commitment to providing high-quality pet care is an integral part of my daily and weekly routine, and I take this responsibility very seriously. I ensure that my home is clean, safe, and comfortable for my pets. This includes a clean backyard for them to run, a living room with a rug for them to wrestle, multiple beds, and soft blankets in the bedroom for them to rest and sleep. I established a regular routine for feeding, exercise, and playtime. With lots of toys and access to filtered water. I provide regular opportunities for the pet to go outside in my backyard to get some sun, play, run, and take potty breaks. I keep the pet's living space clean and free from hazards. During playtime, I am present, for tug of war or fetch. Throughout the day I monitor the pet's behavior and health closely, trying to understand their needs.

About: Lifelong animal lover and shelter volunteer! I have cared for cats and dogs of all kinds but have spent a lot of time specifically with senior animals that need medications and special care. I also have experience with reactive dogs as I have owned one in the past and understand how much work and patience that takes! I will align with your pet's needs and care for them like they're my own! -- My parents got me and my sister a dog when I was only 12 years old. His name was Cookie and he was a Shih Tzu and Lhasa Apso mix. Cookie lived to be 18 years old! He only passed away a few years ago and lived a very long and happy life but with his old age, he developed dementia and other ailments that required medications and ointments. I learned so much from having a senior dog and after he passed, I wanted to continue spending time with senior animals and hopefully give them a little more love and happy moments in their last few years. That's how I ended up volunteering at Muttville, a senior dog rescue in San Francisco. My role was to take these grandma and grandpa dogs for walks, give them cuddles and help keep their space clean. As an adult I've had 2 additional dogs-- a Boxer/Pit mix (Muggs) and a Staffy/Shepard mix (Riker). Muggs was an angel and barely needed any training but my second dog, Riker, came with a lot of trauma and reactivity. I did a ton of research to learn how to handle all the anxiety and stress that this poor dog was experiencing. A plastic bag moving in the wind would set him off! After years of training and exposure therapy and anxiety medication, Riker has calmed quite a bit and I'm very proud of the work we did together! Unfortunately, my bigger dogs have also passed. I wish big dogs had the same life expectancy as smaller dogs. Recently, I found out about a housesitting site that would allow me to travel while housesitting for families with pets. I work as a recruiter in tech which gives me a ton of flexibility to work from anywhere. I have housesat for several homes now all over the US and I'm excited to continue my housesitting adventures through Rover as I navigate a career change. My schedule is wide open for your pets! I'm usually an early riser so for any housesitting opportunities, I can match your pet's feeding and walking schedule. I'm used to having a pet so my schedule is very much dictated by the animals I'm watching. I can be flexible so please reach out and I'm happy to accommodate! I have experience with all sorts of animal behaviors. I've had dogs who like to eat rocks, dogs who think everyone and everything is an enemy, dogs who need eye drops every few hours, cats who refuse to leave my lap, and cats who need days to adjust to your presence. I'll align myself to whatever the animal needs in order to feel cared for and safe. I'll also likely ask a lot of questions to understand your pet's needs beforehand.

About: Hi! My name is Vivi and I love dogs. (Actually, I love all animals!) I grew up with family dogs and adopted my own last year (she's a complete sweetie). I also have a cat, a bearded dragon, and fish. I worked in a local dog daycare and hotel for over three years and loved it! Now that I'm in a graduate program, I couldn't keep up the hours but missed the dogs. My favorite part of that job was walking the dogs and now I'd love to walk your dog. I really enjoy connecting with each dog, getting to know their personalities, taking care of them, and giving them the attention, stimulation, and fun that comes from being together and enjoying the day. I am currently working on my clinical hours for my degree and am busy Monday and Wednesday after noons 1-5pm and Thursdays at the same time and at 7am-10am every other week. Any other time is all good for me! When I take care of a pet, I care for them in any ways that they might need. I have had experiences with reactive dogs, dogs with specific medical needs, young dogs who are practicing training still, and senior dogs. I want to do what is most comfortable for the dog and am super happy to accommodate for any needs that they have when caring for them! I have experience reading and reacting to cat and dog body language and know when my presence is invited by them and when they might need more space. It's important to look for the animals consent and comfort when working with and taking care of them so they can remain as happy and stress free as possible!

About: I come from a lineage of animal caretakers! My grandfather hand-raised birds from cockatiel to cockatoo 🙂 Animals have always been a big part of my life! The love and attention for other creatures that I was able to witness at such a young age showed me how one of Earth’s greatest gifts is all the wonderful animals we get to share it with! I’m looking to make Rover a full time gig so I would really love to potentially be someone’s permanent animal care taker! Rest easy knowing your animals will receive above and beyond care and treatment just as you would! I’ve built outdoor cat boxes for my indoor cats to sun bathe in and get sunlight while I’m away! My cat Bandit gets all the outdoor air she needs while keeping the local birds safe! 😅

About: Hi, I’m Missy. I’ve been walking and caring for dogs of all breeds and sizes for years—starting as a volunteer dog walker at my local animal shelter in high school, and continuing with family pets and now on Rover. I also have a dog of my own, Lula—feel free to check out her pictures! Please message me with any questions. I’d love to know if I’m the right fit for your pet, and if your dog has any special needs or reactivity around other animals during walks. Thank you! I usually work on the weekends, but I have more of a flexible schedule Monday through Friday. However, my schedule does vary weekly and because of this I am not able to accept repeat walks/visits for longer than one week. The latest that I can work any day is until 8 pm. I will provide dedicated in-home pet care, maintaining familiar surroundings that help minimize stress for your dog. This can involve feeding, exercise, medication administration if needed (with instructions provided), and lots of love and affection to ensure your pet's well-being and comfort, just as if I would be caring for my own dog.

Our cat is very shy and cat sitters barely see him when doing check-ins. Somehow Rebecca gained his trust on the second day and he was comfortable being approached and pet. It made us feel better being away knowing that our cat wasn’t hiding the whole time we were gone. I’d definitely reach out to Rebecca again in the future.

I was very apprehensive about leaving my senior and very suspicious German Shepherd alone for the first time in her life. Kristi was able to gain enough trust that Sage was willing to walk with her, eat normally and play in the yard to some extent. I really appreciated the pictures and descriptions she sent after each visit. She seems to have a way with even difficult dogs. Would definitely use her again!

Crystal was again, wonderful with my cat. She is so level headed, reliable, and caring. The challenge this time was an ant invasion around the cat food. Crystal cleaned up the mess (voluntarily), innovated a very effective way to keep them away from the feeder that involved water—no poison. I also appreciate that she went to the store and picked up additional food when there was not enough. She took great photos on each visit, which made it clear that he was in excellent hands. Everything perfect when we got home. Crystal’s capable care made this part of being away from home stress free.

Whether you’re at the office for the day or traveling for a few nights, a pet sitter can offer potty breaks during a El Cerrito stroll, cleaning the litter box, or making sure your pet has on-time food or water refills. Tip: You can discuss your specific arrangements with a pet sitter on Rover to what fits you, your pet, and your sitter’s needs. To find what their special skills are, look at the "Skills" and "Pet care experience" sections on their profile.

You can message your sitter at any time through the app and our support team is available 24/7 by email or chat if you have concerns.

Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in El Cerrito. On Rover:

  • 91% of sitters can help with special care needs
  • 94% can help with giving oral medications or injections
  • 95% can help with daily exercise

You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.

Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.

A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.

Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.

Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.

If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
