“Mason was a great sitter for our two cats! He was communicative, left the house so clean and most importantly, we came home to happy and loving cats. Would definitely recommend!”

“Alexandra house sat for my elderly dog Coco for a week (in my home). She was a fantastic sitter. She was communicative, friendly, professional, and easy to work with. She worked with Coco's personality. I think that she is an animal person and it comes through in the great and responsive care she provided while we were away (ditto for her her husband). Her approach definitely put my mind at ease while we were gone. Thanks Alexandra!”

“So glad to have found Rachel! You can tell she has great animal energy and connected well with my two dogs, both of which have their own quirks. She’s was very communicative, and it gives me such peace of mind knowing my pets are cared for as if they’re her own!”

About: Small or large, reactive or secure, your dog will feel at home with me. For the last 10+ years I have been pet sitting and walking my neighbor's pets and this summer I'd like to expand my reach to the rest of the East Bay. I have experience administering medication, cooking food for pets, and making dogs feel at ease in my presence. In the last year or so I have picked up some dog training, and I would be happy to incorporate some of this training into my walks with your pup. Summer 2026 will be an extremely flexible time for me to pick up pet walking/sitting gigs. I have a dog of my own that will join dog walks only if my client is okay with it. I have a fenced yard and a housemate who works from home and loves dogs as well. I make sure my dog gets plenty of time outside and some movement throughout her day.
“Professional and kind from start to finish! Sofia took the time to meet Olive ahead of watching her and kept me updated with messages and pictures the day of. She left my apt exactly how I left it and I could tell Olive had a great time. Would definitely book her again!”

“Yesica looked after our fur baby Koa during 4th of July weekend. She was great. I got updates and pictures throughout the weekend which was great. She was very responsive when booking. I will definitely book her again.”

About: I’ve had dogs for most of my life. I grew up with 4 bigs dogs. Recently I’ve been doing walks on apps, I’ve done over 70+ services ranging from taking care of old pets to very young ones. People always set me as their preferred walker since they love that I listen to their rules and go on long walks with their dogs. For a 60 minute walk I average about 2-3 miles, depending on the dog. I’m currently a student at San Jose State University and I look forward to doing some walks or other services on the weekends when I’m back home, also I can do walks or sittings on the weekdays when I off school. I have a fenced yard, the dogs and cats are allowed in the house and my room. I will make sure to always keep a lookout and have them be where I am at.

I will make sure your pet has access to water easily and have meals at their regular time.

“Hi Kristi, thank you so much. You were incredible this past week with our two lovebugs, they are small but they have their own mighty quirks that can be a bit to care for, and they were happy walked and loved on when we returned. I was so grateful at how reliable you were, since it was my first time asking for house/pet sitting, and humbled by the way you went above and beyond caring not just for the pups but for the house. Really so lucky to have found you and I look forward to next time. Thanks for making a much needed trip away possible.”

“Rachelle is prompt and responsive! She's very pleasant to deal with, she pet sat our dog for 2.5 days in our home while we were away. My pup was very calm and relaxed when i came home, which was great, since he can be very anxious at times. I will definitely contact her again, the next time we need to be away from home!”

“Ray was awesome! Very communicative with us and patient with our dog who is not your average fido (dog reactive, full of energy, etc). We will definitely be booking with Ray again!”

“We have two pretty high strung boys (1 of which is an 8 month old German shepherd pup) and Alan was well up to the task of sitting for them during a recent oversees trip. The dogs took to Alan immediately and we came home to a clean house and happy dogs. Alan checked in frequently and we felt very confident they were being well cared for. We will happily book Alan again in the future!”

“Angelina and Xavior were great with our fur babies. They were very attentive to the needs of our senior dog and sent lots of updates which gave us great peace of mind. We will definitely be requesting them again.”
“Harold was easy-going and accessible in the planning process. He is kind, practical, and good with dogs. Our dogs received great care, and he was especially careful with our elderly dog, doing extra work to help her and clean up after her, which we really appreciated. We used Harold for three nights of house-sitting and we found our home was in good order and the dogs were calm when we got home. Very happy to have found him!”
“We joined Rover hoping to connect with someone who is kind, responsible, caring about animals and above all, patient, who we could forge a relationship with that would be durable for the long-term. Ikeena has all of these qualities. As a family that travels regularly, whose family and friends have generally all grown-out of the idea of a week at our place as a mini-getaway, we are so thrilled to have connected with her. We got to know each other over zoom and some schedule walks and impromptu hellos and Ikeena dealt with our nerves of building trust with aplomb. Never were we made to feel silly for wanting to meet again or another walk or for having a several pages long doc about staying at our house and caring for our sweet little brown boy, Chicks. During her recent stay here we barely worried about a thing. Ikeena kept in touch with us regularly and Chicks seriously enjoyed being not just cared for, but spoiled by her. She went above and beyond!”

Tania is the best! She takes amazing care of our senior dog Ernie and also our house! She is so kind and warm and loving toward Ernie and also super responsive and professional! We always know that Ernie is an excellent hands when she is watching him for us! We just love her! ❤️🐾❤️🐾

Rachael did a wonderful job house sitting our senior terrier mix, Jock. He can be shy with strangers but took to Rachael right away. Her communication was great - a daily update with lots of pictures (it was very clear how relaxed he was). I highly recommended her and will likely use her services again in future.

Mason is the best! My dog really enjoys her time with him and I always know she’s in good hands. He took excellent care of my little ones and my home last December, and literally went beyond the extra mile to the vet’s when he noticed that my cat’s claw was digging into his paw.

Rachelle is prompt and responsive! She's very pleasant to deal with, she pet sat our dog for 2.5 days in our home while we were away. My pup was very calm and relaxed when i came home, which was great, since he can be very anxious at times. I will definitely contact her again, the next time we need to be away from home!

Rong has house/pet sat for us twice now. We have two labradoodles and a small flock of chickens. Rong is great about communication and following instructions. She took good care of all our pets and made sure all their needs were met. She also communicated daily with me and provided photos to show how our pups and chickens were doing while we were away. We were very happy with her services and plan to ask her to house/pet sit again in the future!
Danielle is fantastic. She took time to get to know our dog before we left the country for a week and asked a lot of questions. She gave our very active 3-year-old pit bull plenty of attention, exercise and love. She also kept us up to date on how things were going and sent photos. We returned home to find a happy and relaxed dog. Danielle is also extremely personable and cool. I plan to hire her again when we need someone to take care of our dog. Hire with total confidence.

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Richmond walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Richmond maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Richmond choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.

You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
