“Erica was so great with our dog Juno as always - sent us updates and photos every day, took such great care of him and kept him active, and took great care of our place.”

“Elizabeth stayed with our 4 year old slightly anxious pitmix for 4 nights and she was so wonderful! I felt so comfortable leaving him with her, she sent daily updates along with photos and it felt so nice knowing he was in such good hands. 10/10 would recommend! 🤍 Elizabeth, we appreciate you so much!!”

“Kaitlin was an awesome cat/house sitter! She is very professional, communicative, and my cat was instantly comfortable with her. She went above and beyond and I felt very at ease knowing she was taking care of my pet. Will definitely rebook with her any time! Thanks Kaitlin!”

“Shanna was great! We received thorough daily updates with multiple photos. I could tell that our pup was having a good time and well taken care of. Our house was also spotless when we returned. Thanks, Shanna!”

“Monica is amazing. Our dog had some stomach issues and Monica took such great care of her, made her chicken and rice, cleaned up after her, etc. super sweet and communicative. Thank you Monica!”

“Mike did an excellent job caring for my 11-year-old cat, who requires oral sublingual medication and a prescription diet. I really appreciated the daily updates and photos throughout the stay. I came home to a happy, relaxed, and well-cared-for cat. I would definitely book overnight care with Mike again in the future.”

About: Throughout my life, my family has had many different types of dogs & cats. Large dogs, medium sized dogs, small dogs and crazy dogs, calm down, and playful dogs. I am very experienced when it comes to playing with animals and understanding them. I am an extremely playful person and I love being active, so taking the dog on a walk or running with the dog will not be a problem for me at all. I am very good at keeping with schedules and routine, so I will always remember what a dog's routine needs to be. Once again, I love dogs so much and taking care of dogs will be absolutely no burden on me in anyway. If you have any questions, please feel free to message me! I am available any time & any day throughout the week! I do not currently work, so your animal will be my top priority of the day! I won’t be able to care for your animal in my home, but I have no problem with walking, playing, & sitting at your house.
“Once again, Gisselle was amazing with our pups. Gisselle is excellent with our two 5 year old golden retriever’s. The dogs love her and she stays at our house and is so good with the dogs. We get great pictures and she keeps us up to date with questions (Finn was barking during the night, she reached out, I was able to tell her why he does this) all to say, you will be very happy to have Gisselle take care of your pets! We adore her and our dogs love her, if you want an excellent person to work with your fur babies work with Gisselle!”

“Diana has done an outstanding job petsitting and housesitting for us several times. She is extremely conscientious, thorough, and trustworthy. Our cats and fish were all very well cared for. We received regular updates and she went above and beyond by leaving our place exceptionally clean when she departed.”

“Bonnie’s calm demeanor was perfect for my anxious dog during a 10-day trip. Bonnie took on Taters when my dog was having diarrhea and took great care of her. We got updates nearly daily and returned to a clean home and a dog with normal poops.”

“Julia was amazing! My pup seemed so relaxed and content with her. He wasn't even all that excited to see me.when I got home, which is huge for a pup with mild separation anxiety! Julia followed all my instructions, kept me updated throughout, and took greatbpictur”

“Max is one of the best Rover sitters I’ve ever had. He did an exceptional job taking care of our senior rescue dogter, Dolce. He arrived on time, took her out for long walks in the neighborhood, followed instructions, and provided updates throughout the day. Most importantly, Dolce quickly felt very comfortable with Max. I highly recommend Max for your sitting needs!”

“Celine was amazing! We got constant updates with lovely pictures of our little doggie. She even made Snowy's favorite food. Also, she took amazing care of our place. I can't say enough good things about our experience. We will definitely be using Celine in the future. 5 Stars all around!!!”

“Elin was very easy to work with and very responsive! She came over to meet Morgan and review his needs beforehand and it was clear that Morgan was a big fan from the beginning. I would definitely trust her to take care of our puppy anytime!”

“Alyna supported our family by coming in and staying with our two cats who are very different and have different needs for a week. She was very attentive to Fitz and Gretchen and gave them lots of attention, treats, and toys. The house looked great when we came home and the kitties were very healthy and nicely combed. While we were gone, Alyna sent us photos of the cats everyday. It was a pleasure working with Alyna and we look forward to working with her again.”

“Joao did such an amazing job with our cat Sterling. He was very friendly and sent us updates often, which I appreciate. He truly loves animals and I could tell that sterling was happy when we got home and well cared for. I would definitely hire him again!”

“Sean was so great with Fuzz! Our skittish kitty warmed right up to him and had a great time while we were away. Thanks for making him feel so comfortable, we really appreciate it!”

Noelia was so so great! she got along so well with Aurora, was very easy to chat with, and left us a very adorable picture of Aurora that was a very sweet gesture. we look forward to getting her help again in the future! thank you Noe for all your love and attention to our baby cat.

Wowowow so incredibly thankful that we found Shanna! We were visiting from out of town and have an anxious dog, so he can be tricky, but she was so gentle and patient with him. She asked thoughtful and considerate questions leading up the visit and even sent some reassuring updates with photos to put our minds at ease. We felt lucky to have found her and you should too! Shanna is as good as it gets!

Nicole was amazing! She signed on to take care of our 6 month old puppy and our aging, sick kitty - no easy task - and took care of them with tender love and care. She administered meds, cuddled with them, played with our wild puppy, and we came back to a clean and happy home. We can't recommend her enough.
We had Hannah as a day & night boarder for our cat Aurora and she was excellent throughout. Aurora loved her company and we appreciated her continuous updates and pictures. She was also quite attentive to details and read through the instructions provided to her in a guide. i’d recommend her to any cat parents!

This was my first time hiring Shirley but it definitely won't be the last. She was thoughtful and kind with all my dogs. Many sitters won't consider watching three dogs, two of which are large and XL. She was really great with them, showing compassion for my traumatized street dog and giving lots of love to the other two. I hope she's available when I need her. I'm guessing that a woman like this gets booked up fast.

Jae did a great job with Mo, who wears a soft muzzle on walks, is strong and can be dog reactive and reactive towards wheels and canes. I was gone for 9 days, and Mo was calm when I arrived and I can tell has been in his routine. No nervous energy or over excitement when I got back which has continued into this morning... he seems very secure, which is due to Jaelen's care of him. Super clean & tidy apartment on my return. Highly recommend Jaelen! Communicative and kind.

Gabrielle did a wonderful job taking care of our puppy Papaya. We love our girl, but it can be kind of a tall task taking care of puppies: we asked her not to leave Papaya alone for more than 1 hour. On top of that, she’s still teething and needs monitoring to make sure doesn’t get into anything bad. We also told Gabrielle about our training routine with her. Gabrielle followed our instructions to a tee and went above and beyond by doing training with her and even washing her own linens so we wouldn’t have any cleanup to do when we got back from our travels. She left our house in perfect condition, and most importantly gave our girl lots of love and attention while we were gone. I am so thankful for Gabrielle’s vigilance and great work with Papaya. I am confident we will book with her again in the future.

Frequently asked questions about Rover
The average cost for House Sitting in San Francisco on Rover is $69.93 per night (as of August 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.
Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .
As of August 2026, there are 8,036 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across San Francisco. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.
Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred San Francisco walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in San Francisco maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in San Francisco choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
