“Elisa did an exceptional job taking care of my dog, Freddy. She took him on multiple outings per day, fun hikes and adventures and gave him a lot of love. She is also an amazing communicator and sent us daily updates and summaries on each day’s adventures complete with photos. I knew that Freddy was in good hands the whole time. I look forward to using Elisa again the next time we need a dog sitter.”

“Leaving our dog is always the hardest part of travelling. Mike made it much, much easier. Our dog Elle is pretty energetic and he kept up with her perfectly. Lots of updates, and he took great care of both Elle and our place. If you need any sort of dog sitting, I’d absolutely recommend Mike.”

“Shanna did an awesome job watching our box-pug Marvin (who can be reactive) ... she is a super professional dog sitter and we felt very confident that he was safe and in good hands the whole weekend (taking him to play in the park, sending us picture updates).”

“Laura took great care of Ginger while we were out for the day. She followed our care instructions perfectly, sending us regular updates from walks and meal times. Ginger was relaxed when we returned home and in no rush to leave Laura’s lap. I appreciate that Laura has proactively raised potential areas of concern both times she has cared for Ginger. She is attentive and we feel we can trust her to let us know promptly if any issues arise during her stay.”

About: My fiancé and I have been pet-sitting for friends over the years and love spending time with dogs. For work, I'm a software engineer and he's in pharmaceuticals—we would have a dog of our own if our current travel schedules allowed it, but in the meantime we love giving that energy and attention to caring for other people’s pups. My fiancé grew up with large dogs, and I’m regularly around both large and small dogs at work, so we're comfortable with different sizes, personalities, and energy levels. Whether your dog loves active adventures, long walks, trips to the dog park, or just relaxing and getting plenty of attention, we’re happy to match their vibe. When your dog stays with us, they’ll get lots of playtime, care, and companionship. We’re responsible, communicative, and happy to follow your dog’s usual routines so they feel comfortable and at home. We treat every dog like they’re our own and want both you and your pup to feel completely at ease while you’re away. We’re also happy to send photo updates so you can see how your pup is doing. We enjoy building our plans around the dogs we’re caring for. I work from home on Thursdays and have flexibility for walks and playtime during the day. We’re also available on weekends and love taking dogs on adventures, whether that’s longer walks, time at the park, or exploring around the neighborhood. I can help keep things consistent for your dog while you're out of town, maintaining their usual routines like feeding schedules, walks, and playtime. I'm a bit of a rule-follower and perfectionist in life, so you can trust me to be careful about safety and any rules you might have for your dog. I’m also respectful of your home and will treat it with care while I’m there. I’m happy to send regular photo updates so you know how your pup is doing.
“Raeghan was so wonderful sitting Oliver! She truly went above and beyond with videos and pictures and made me feel so at ease. Oliver definitely had a great time and missed her once she was gone! Would love to have her again ❤️”

“Dana is wonderful! Took great care of my babies and home. If she is available, I will absolutely love to have her watch Bella & Jaxx Again. She was very aware of their feeding and special needs plus walked them daily!”

“Jessica did a FANTASTIC job taking care of my two cats while I was out of town for the weekend! One of my cats has been having some urinary tract issues and needed medication every 8 hours and she took incredible care of him. I would definitely hire her again and I HIGHLY recommend her! She was extremely respectful of our home and our cats absolutely loved her!”

“Monica was so great with our pup! We booked her last minute when I was going into labor and we are so lucky she was available and flexible when we had to stay longer at the hospital. Will absolutely book with Monica again!!”

“Femke was the best! She clicked with Fernet immediately and from the photos she sent, he spent most of our trip on her lap :). Femke was incredibly communicative and made sure we had daily updates with photos and videos of thier adventures. Would definitely book again!”

“Hadleigh was wonderful with my dog Duke, he’s a senior pup with a big personality. She got to know his walks, schedules, and all the folks he runs into in the neighborhood and kept me updated throughout. Coming home Duke was very happy and relaxed and she helped me out a ton by putting the roomba back on the charger so my house wouldnt be overrun by hair. I’ll definitely be using her again on my future trips!”

“Kristina was amazing with our anxious pup! She stayed with her at our home and was so wonderful & communicative, always updating us with photos of our dog looking so happy & relaxed. Thank you Kristina!”

“Elizabeth was an outstanding dog sitter! She took care of my dog, Cubby, for four days while staying at my apartment, and I couldn't have been happier with her service. Elizabeth was professional, attentive, and clearly loves animals. Cubby was well-fed, well-exercised, and very happy when I returned. Elizabeth also kept my apartment spotless and even sent me daily updates and pictures of Cubby, which gave me great peace of mind. I highly recommend Elizabeth to anyone looking for a reliable and caring dog sitter. Thank you, Elizabeth, for taking such wonderful care of Cubby!”

“David was great with our senior dog Miles for a several night stay. He was easy to work with, on time and responsive. He gave us daily updates and followed the schedule we made for Miles to make him feel as comfortable as possible while we were away. Miles can be a picky eater, which David tried to help with and was creative with getting Miles to eat more.”

“Edith was really great. Very professional on first meeting and asking questions and taking notes. Cute photo updates and very responsive to all communications whether through text or through the Rover app. Highly recommend!”

“Leanne was amazing!! She came over before my trip to meet Astro and to go over anything he might need while I was gone and she made me feel so comfortable about leaving him with her. Astro can be a little shy with new people but the whole trip she sent pictures and updates on how he was doing which I really appreciated. It was so much easier to enjoy being away knowing that Astro was in good hands. She also left my apartment in great condition which after a long travel day really meant a lot. Would definitely recommend and will be booking again in the future!!”

“Celine is the best Rover I have ever used. Not only just she communicate extremely well, but she sends unprompted photos and updates. I have used Rover's in the past and no one has ever left my apartment as clean as Celine did. If you have the great opportunity to have Celine watch your pup, please do. I could not thank her enough.”

João was a fantastic dog sitter for my pup Nora. He is incredibly kind, professional, very easy to communicate with and responsive. He was nothing other than attentive, thoughtful and loving with my dog and treated my place like he would his own while he watched her over an extended holiday weekend. I could not recommend him more highly.

Linda was beyond excellent with our dog, Greer! She kept us updated the full week we were gone, did lots of training with Greer, and made sure our house was spotless when she left. We are so thankful we found Linda—leaving our dog is stressful but we didnt worry for a minute knowing she was with Linda.

Allie did an amazing job sitting for our two dogs. She was very patient with them because they take awhile to warm up to people. She sent frequent updates on how they were doing. We came home to an immaculate house and she picked up after the dogs in the yard. We couldn’t ask for a better petsitter!

We had an excellent first experience with Daniel and will be using him again very soon! Probably our best sitter experience thus far. Daniel had clear communication and sent lots of photo updates while we were away. The home remained clean and put together when we got back. Momo seemed so happy and relaxed, a clear sign he was getting enough exercise and attention. Thank you Daniel!

Amina was so great with our senior dogs, both 13 & with their own health issues. She gave us daily updates with plenty of photos of them. When things came up, like when the dogs were having loose stool, she let us know right away! She also worked with adjusting our dogs meds as needed. Our dogs loved her. She was also extremely respectful of our home & the place was pristine when we got back.

Great petsitter! My cat Cherie loves the attention. Plus I had an unexpected neighbor cat that was still there the entire time and Alex was so kind to care for him too, huge thanks for that. I know Bronco Catsby will be forever grateful he did not have to wait out his time in animal control (SF animal control are super awesome but it’s scary there for cats!)

Such a thoughtful sitter and guardian for our two dogs!! She was very communicative, on time, responsive, and very thoughtful. Our dogs took an immediate liking to her. For house sitting she leaves your place looking better than when you left it! Will be using Elin again. Will be using Elin again soon.

Frequently asked questions about Rover
The average cost for House Sitting in San Francisco on Rover is $69.93 per night (as of September 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred San Francisco walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in San Francisco maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in San Francisco choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in San Francisco. On Rover:
- 92% of sitters can help with special care needs

- 95% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
