“Joslyn was an absolute rockstar and made our dog Jackson so comfortable and happy while we were away. She’s super resourceful, follows directions to a T, very communicative, left the home spotless, and honestly a joy to work with overall (and it doesn’t hurt that the pup also loves her!). We can’t wait to have her stay with Jackson again in the future and cannot recommend her enough.”

“Tasherit did a great job with our cat. She sent lots of pictures and checked in frequently, so we felt confident everything was going smoothly. Would definitely recommend!”

“Nicole did a great job at house/pet sitting. She was responsive, respectful, and made the whole process super smooth. Came home to a clean house and a happy pup. Thanks Nicole!”

“Yue Yue (Sammy) cared for my dog Freckles on Saturday while we were out of town. Freckles has separation anxiety, so I was initially very nervous about leaving him with a new sitter for the entire day. Everything however went smoothly. Yue Yue arrived on time, took great care of Freckles, and provided me with frequent updates. I would work with Yue Yue again.”

“Aijalon is amazing. She took such great care of my cat. She's friendly, kind, communicative, and an absolute delight. I was away two weeks and never worried about the wellbeing of my pet. Would absolutely be thrilled to have her back. Highly recommend Aijalon with your pets and home.”

“Lauren was great! We appreciated all the photos and updates. It was easy to get in touch with her to plan and she was very communicative throughout the weekend and when leaving. Would recommend!”

“Gisele was absolutely amazing! She accommodated our request on a short notice and was so nice, communication was excellent. Mikki had a great time and we had peace of mind. Thank you, Gisele!”

“How to review dog sitting if you couldn't witness it firsthand? Actually, this one isn't hard. Kimberly provided both frequent photos and a written updates about our pup, which went a long way towards reassuring us during our first time leaving our dog with a sitter. And... when we came home, we encountered a pup who was happy, relaxed and thoroughly *not* traumatized. In fact, she was even more okay than when we'd leave her alone for a few hours while we were out. This spoke volumes. Thank you, Kimberly, for doing an excellent job of taking care of our pup!”

“The furbaby seemed happy and well cared for, my place was clean, and Nicole was super responsive. I also really appreciated the extra time for a meet n greet. Would have loved more pics or daily updates but A+!”

“Celine gets five stars for house sitting and taking care of our doggie for two weeks. Celine was very responsive, sending regular messages with photos confirming all was well. When we returned our dog was a happy camper and our house was tidy and in good order. We would be happy to hire Celine again.”

“Femke was the best! She clicked with Fernet immediately and from the photos she sent, he spent most of our trip on her lap :). Femke was incredibly communicative and made sure we had daily updates with photos and videos of thier adventures. Would definitely book again!”

“Sean was SO great with our old boy Milo!! Our dog has a fair amount of quirks and Sean was attentive, kind and very flexible. We had a couple meet & greets to go over his routine before our weekend away which was also very appreciated. We could tell Milo liked Sean from the get go! Sean was easy to communicate with and our house was in perfect order when we got home. We HIGHLY recommend Sean to take excellent care of your pup- He is a very nice guy, super responsible and clearly loves dogs! :)”

“5/5 star, Linda was the best! Linda fulfilled a last-minute request to stay at our house to watch Harvey while we were away for 4 days on a camping trip. She took into account his many Greyhound quirks and oddities and was very communicative + sent us lots of photos and videos. On top of being a great pet sitter, she also left our place tidy and spotless. We'll absolutely be booking with her again!”

“Anita was great with Herbie! She took fantastic care of him and I can tell she was very attentive. I came back and he was very content and seemed to have been playing a ton! Anita was also super responsive to my texts and willing to work with me last minute. She also left the house very clean and tidy. I would absolutely recommend her to anyone! Thanks for taking such good care of Herbie!”

“This was the first time Kristin sat with my dog Lucy, who is a rescue initially mistrusting of "new people." To my relief, after the initial encounter, Lucy was OK with Kristin and I felt good about leaving them together for a short weekend. Kristin has a sweet, easy-going temperament that would help any pet get comfortable. She took good care of Lucy as well as my home and sent me pictures and reports about their walks. I definitely recommend Kristin.”

“Jessica did a great job! She housesat for me and took great care of my dog and two cats. She was so professional and communicative and left my space so clean! Will definitely be booking with her again.”

Pet parents share their Rover experiences - San Francisco
Our rescue dog, Mister Coco, absolutely fell in love with Tasherit during her 10-day stay! He was so well cared for—with walks, fun park outings, playtime, plenty of cuddles, and lots of affection—that he hardly seemed to notice we were gone. We came home to a happy, calm, and relaxed pup who had clearly been loved and well cared for the entire time we were away. Tasherit took incredible care not only of Mr .Coco, but also of our home, which was spotless when we returned. She communicated wonderfully throughout her stay, shared daily photos, and brought such a genuine, caring presence that we always felt completely at ease. I couldn't recommend Tasherit more highly. She is an empathetic, trustworthy, highly reliable & kind caregiver. We look forward to welcoming her back soon. ❤️

Margaret was absolutely wonderful with our new puppy and both of our dogs. When our vet called to say our puppy needed medication, she handled everything with care and made sure he was well taken care of. She is dependable, attentive, and clearly treats our dogs with care. We trust her completely and feel so lucky to have someone we can rely on. We highly recommend her!

Hadleigh was wonderful with my dog Duke, he’s a senior pup with a big personality. She got to know his walks, schedules, and all the folks he runs into in the neighborhood and kept me updated throughout. Coming home Duke was very happy and relaxed and she helped me out a ton by putting the roomba back on the charger so my house wouldnt be overrun by hair. I’ll definitely be using her again on my future trips!

We needed a last minute dog sitter during our visit to SF. Paula responded right away to our request and was at our hotel within an hour, arriving perfectly on time. My dog was very relaxed with her, and she sent lots of updates and pictures throughout the day. She was fantastic, and we highly recommend her.

Frequently asked questions about Rover
The average cost for House Sitting in San Francisco on Rover is $68.25 per night (as of July 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.
Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .
As of July 2026, there are 8,031 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across San Francisco. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.
Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred San Francisco walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in San Francisco maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in San Francisco choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in San Francisco. On Rover:
- 92% of sitters can help with special care needs
- 94% can help with giving oral medications or injections
- 95% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
