“If your dog likes to throw a full-blown “diva meltdown” on a leash… call Maxine. Immediately. We booked Maxine to help with our mini Aussie’s leash aggression. She was quickly able to assess our house dynamics and bonded with both dogs like she’d known them for years. She somehow manages to be equal parts dog whisperer, behavior scientist, and the friend. She was sgenerous with her time and gave us practical, doable tips (no unrealistic boot camp vibes). She explained the why behind everything and made the whole process feel empowering instead of overwhelming. She even went on a walk with us “in the wild” to observe real-life scenarios — which is where the magic really happened. The best part? Within 48 hours we’ve already seen a dramatic difference. Our walks to the park are calmer, more confident, and — dare I say — no longer mildly embarrassing. Already less leash tantrums at passing dogs. We feel more in control, and our pup seems more relaxed too. Maxine doesn’t just train dogs — she trains humans in a way that actually sticks. If you’re on the fence, hop off. Your future peaceful walks will thank you.”

“Madeline is great! We had our first consultation for my new pup and I could tell she really knew what she was talking about. My pup is usually very afraid of meeting new people and he warmed up to her within minutes. We are looking forward to continuing our training sessions with her. Thanks Madeline!”

“Joanne was amazing! She was very knowledgeable and displayed so much confidence in working with my dog. She offered so many tips even in the initial consultation. I would definitely continue to book training sessions with her to better refine my skills in training!”
“Joe helped my dog Winston improve his leash and heel manners using calm, positive techniques and a long leash. He was patient, clear, and took the time to explain what he was doing so I could practice it myself. Walks are much more enjoyable now, and Winston is far more focused and responsive. I highly recommend Joe!”

“Veronica did a great job training my dog! She put extensive effort into teaching him multiple tricks and stunts including jumping on command, getting in and out of his bed and tricks with props like a hula-hoop. The clicker and positive reinforcement training is very humane and I could see noticeable improvement in his general behavior as we worked through Veronica's lessons.”

“It's clear that Ohr is a gifted handler and care provider for dogs. She met my exceedingly traumatized, anxious 8-year old pup yesterday and approached him with patience and skill. Ohr provided sound strategies and took her time getting to know my pup. Feeling grateful for the introduction and hopeful for where this might lead!”

About: I’m extremely patient, and will take as much time as your dog needs to work through any behavioral hurdles necessary. Well achieve training goals through copious amounts of “good boy/girl!”, treats, and other positive reinforcements that remind your dog that you’re the boss, and there’s a reward for good behavior :)
About: During our consultation, we will figure out which positive reinforcement training method will work best for your pup. As we are doing this, I will be outlining a training plan for you & your pup (which you will get a copy of!) After each lesson with your pup, (if available) I ask all pet parents to join me for a quick briefing to see what their pup has learned. As well as showing them what has been working for them & how to continue after our lesson.
“Shannon was super helpful during our initial consultation for training. She took time to understand our goals and current state before jumping into solutions, and made sure to share a write up of everything we discussed. Thank you, Shannon! Looking forward to our next session”

“This was the first time I ever worked with a dog trainer and Mohammed made us immediately feel at ease. It was just as much a training for me as it was for my dog and he helped us navigate scenarios that I would have never have felt comfortable doing without someone like him! He quickly demonstrated how to correct our leash reactive dog and showed us how, with consistency, we can get over this obstacle that had given me so much anxiety in the past. I’ve learned so much and am hopeful I can implement the learnings and make progress with my dog!”

“I’ve had the pleasure of seeing Nima work with dogs, and it’s clear he has a natural gift for understanding and connecting with them. His calm, patient energy puts even the most anxious dogs at ease, and his use of positive reinforcement makes training both effective and enjoyable. Nima takes the time to tailor his approach to each dog’s personality and helps pet parents feel confident and supported throughout the process. His passion for helping dogs and their people build strong, lasting bonds truly sets him apart. Any pup would be lucky to learn from him!”

“Asher has been walking our young Australian Labradoodle for the past three months. Tigger has been trained already, but at one and a half years he is still very bouncy. I am very impressed by Asher’s ability to keep him in line while giving him opportunities to work of his boundless energy in various dog parks or at the beach. Clearly Asher loves dogs. His approach is firm and yet kind. Sometimes he has three dogs on a walk. It’s impressive to see you he keeps them in line and at the same time gives them a good time. We trust Asher completely with Tigger. And Tigger adores Asher!”

Dog Training FAQs
Frequently asked questions about Rover
Trainers listing on Rover must be credentialed dog trainers, commit to reward-based training methods, and pass a background check to offer dog training in San Francisco.
Reward-based training encourages dogs to offer desired behaviors by reinforcing the behavior with something the dog likes; treats, play, or toys. Reward-based training prioritizes using the least intrusive intervention; it promotes thinking rather than punishing mistakes.
When rewards are used, the likelihood the behavior is repeated increases. The positive connection to the reward results in making learning enjoyable, strengthens the human animal bond and over time leads to consistent desired behaviors.
Training can happen many places — your home, a park, a store, or anywhere else that you and your trainer decide is best for the training you are doing! Many trainers will recommend training in your home. This allows them to observe your dog in their natural environment so they can effectively assess and best help reach your training goals.
Trainers will often mention on their profile where they typically hold training sessions, but you can always contact a trainer to learn more!
Rover makes it easy to find San Francisco dog trainers to provide loving care from their own home. The background-checked, 5-star trainers you can find on Rover will work with you and your dog to build new skills and address behaviors. Dog trainers can work on:
- Puppy training, adult dog training, agility training, clicker training and advanced training.
- Behaviors such as barking, leash manners, leash reactivity, house manners, jumping, fearful behavior, anxious behavior, separation distress, recall, biting, chewing, mouthiness, potty training and resource guarding.
Of course! Having a trainer that is the right fit for both you and your pup is an important step to reaching your training goals. We recommend reaching out to any trainer that interests you. Your initial request is not final until both you and the trainer decide you want to move forward with booking.
Also, trainers may offer or require consultations. Make sure to ask trainers so you can make the best decision for you and your pet.
Many trainers on Rover indicate experience in a wide range of behaviors, from puppy training to more advanced behaviors and training types.
Review a trainer’s profile to see if their experience aligns with your needs, and if you have questions, don’t hesitate to contact them to ensure they’re the right trainer for you and your pet.
We get it—sometimes plans change and you may need to cancel your dog training service. You can cancel an upcoming booking directly from the Rover app or your computer, in accordance with your trainer’s cancellation policy.
