“Christine is amazing with George! She shows up at my house ready to go and he loves her so much. I have a shared note with her where I can update on George’s behavior and she’s so thoughtful if I write about George barking at the roommate of someone she’ll respond in the note even when I don’t have a training booked with tips on him getting along with the roommate. I’m so much less stressed out having a puppy with Christine’s help!”

“Athena has been so dedicated to understanding the behaviors and dynamics of our 2 dogs, and we are so grateful she took us on. We are already seeing improvements in our pups (less leash pulling, reactivity, more attentiveness, calm, and focus), and look forward to future sessions with her.”

“Our dog Marshmallow at first was not able to be calm walking outside, did not engage or look at us during walks, and excessively barked even at home. Through Maxine's sessions with us, Marshmallow's leash reactivity has gone down a great deal. And at home we also have more tricks up our sleeve to redirect and quiet him. Maxine has helped us immensely with our dog Marshmallow. She is able to decipher his behavior and help us find techniques to calm him down and redirect his energies. He still has a long ways to go, but we feel that Marshmallow has already improved a great deal, and we will keep working with Maxine on our dog's behaviors. Maxine is not only super knowledgable, but really loves working with dogs and it truly shows in the ways she shows up for us and our dog.”

“We’ve had the absolute pleasure of working with Madeline for the past two months as our puppy trainer for our Cavapoo, Ginger. Simply put, Madeline has been incredible. When we started, Ginger was quite anxious, she was scared of new environments, unfamiliar sounds, and other dogs. We were also pretty unsure of how to help her build confidence. Madeline changed all of that. She not only transformed Ginger’s confidence, but she also gave us the tools and the confidence we needed as pet parents. She’s been warm, supportive, and always there to check in. She’d text us regularly with tips, recommendations, and encouragement, which made a world of difference. Thanks to Madeline, Ginger now feels safe and happy both with us and out in the world. We’ve seen huge improvements in her leash walking, her basic commands, her potty training, and just her overall comfort level. Ginger absolutely adores her, and we do too. We’re excited to keep working with Madeline and would highly recommend her to anyone looking for a dedicated, compassionate, and incredibly effective puppy trainer. Thanks, Madeline, for everything you’ve done for our little family!”

“Coralie did such a wonderful job with Nick’s first class — we’re already seeing positive changes in his focus and behavior. Thank you for setting such a strong foundation and introducing discipline in such a gentle, effective way — we’re eagerly looking forward to the remaining sessions! 🐶✨”

“We’ve been working with Isaac to train our 10-month-old Dachshund, Roxy, and they been absolutely wonderful. They have been incredibly patient, kind, and clearly knows how to connect with dogs. Roxy’s training is off to a great start thanks to there steady guidance and consistency. We really appreciate all the time and care they put into helping Roxy learn. Thank you so much for setting her on the right path!”

“Joanne was amazing! She was very knowledgeable and displayed so much confidence in working with my dog. She offered so many tips even in the initial consultation. I would definitely continue to book training sessions with her to better refine my skills in training!”
“Joe helped my dog Winston improve his leash and heel manners using calm, positive techniques and a long leash. He was patient, clear, and took the time to explain what he was doing so I could practice it myself. Walks are much more enjoyable now, and Winston is far more focused and responsive. I highly recommend Joe!”

“My wife and I were completely overwhelmed with our new Golden Retriever puppy. The biting and potty accidents had us questioning if we were 'dog people' at all. Perry was a calm port in the storm. His positive reinforcement methods clicked instantly with Luna (and us!). The focus on engagement and boundaries rather than just 'sit/stay' made all the difference. We now have a confident, well-adjusted puppy and—more importantly—a clear roadmap for her future.”

“It's clear that Ohr is a gifted handler and care provider for dogs. She met my exceedingly traumatized, anxious 8-year old pup yesterday and approached him with patience and skill. Ohr provided sound strategies and took her time getting to know my pup. Feeling grateful for the introduction and hopeful for where this might lead!”

“We had a wonderful experience working with Stephanie as our dog trainer. Our adopted pitbull mix is very anxious and especially terrified of street noises, which made even short walks feel overwhelming. Stephanie approached him with so much patience and understanding, always meeting him where he was rather than pushing too hard. She showed us how to use positive reinforcement in a way that actually built Wallaby’s confidence, not just managed his fear. Her guidance made a noticeable difference in how we handle walks and stressful situations.”

“Met Shannon for the first time for a consultation to get some guidance on correctly training my 8w old puppy, she was helpful & provided suggestions! We tried one suggestion & it seems to be working!”

“I can’t recommend Mohamed K. enough he’s an outstanding trainer! Not only is he extremely knowledgeable, but he’s also patient, helpful, and genuinely kind. I have an 8 month old Doberman who’s very energetic and, until now, hadn’t received much formal training. I had a hard time finding a trainer who was both available and affordable outside of apps like Rover. Up to this point, I had been doing my best to teach her basic tricks like sit, lay down, and a few cues like “let’s go” and “wait.” While she could do some of them, it was mostly treat dependent, and she was constantly distracted often pulling away or ignoring commands altogether. Thankfully, an Uber driver told me about this app, and that’s how I found Mohamed. From our first session, he quickly pointed out what I was doing wrong and gave me practical, easy to understand tips on how to correct those mistakes. One of the most valuable things I learned was how important it is to talk to my dog not just give commands. Understanding how tone and communication impact training was a real eye opener, and it’s already making a big difference. I’ll definitely be booking more sessions with Mohamed. He’s made a huge impact in just one session, and I’m excited to continue working with him!”

About: During our consultation, we will figure out which positive reinforcement training method will work best for your pup. As we are doing this, I will be outlining a training plan for you & your pup (which you will get a copy of!) After each lesson with your pup, (if available) I ask all pet parents to join me for a quick briefing to see what their pup has learned. As well as showing them what has been working for them & how to continue after our lesson.
“Finn is responsible, knowledgable and passionate about the training he does. I appreciate his mix of professional and personal experience in assessing animal behaviors and recommend him to anyone looking for a trainer who truly cares about and loves what they are doing.”

“I’ve had the pleasure of seeing Nima work with dogs, and it’s clear he has a natural gift for understanding and connecting with them. His calm, patient energy puts even the most anxious dogs at ease, and his use of positive reinforcement makes training both effective and enjoyable. Nima takes the time to tailor his approach to each dog’s personality and helps pet parents feel confident and supported throughout the process. His passion for helping dogs and their people build strong, lasting bonds truly sets him apart. Any pup would be lucky to learn from him!”

“Asher has been walking our young Australian Labradoodle for the past three months. Tigger has been trained already, but at one and a half years he is still very bouncy. I am very impressed by Asher’s ability to keep him in line while giving him opportunities to work of his boundless energy in various dog parks or at the beach. Clearly Asher loves dogs. His approach is firm and yet kind. Sometimes he has three dogs on a walk. It’s impressive to see you he keeps them in line and at the same time gives them a good time. We trust Asher completely with Tigger. And Tigger adores Asher!”

Dog Training FAQs
Frequently asked questions about Rover
Trainers listing on Rover must be credentialed dog trainers, commit to reward-based training methods, and pass a background check to offer dog training in San Francisco.
Reward-based training encourages dogs to offer desired behaviors by reinforcing the behavior with something the dog likes; treats, play, or toys. Reward-based training prioritizes using the least intrusive intervention; it promotes thinking rather than punishing mistakes.
When rewards are used, the likelihood the behavior is repeated increases. The positive connection to the reward results in making learning enjoyable, strengthens the human animal bond and over time leads to consistent desired behaviors.
Training can happen many places — your home, a park, a store, or anywhere else that you and your trainer decide is best for the training you are doing! Many trainers will recommend training in your home. This allows them to observe your dog in their natural environment so they can effectively assess and best help reach your training goals.
Trainers will often mention on their profile where they typically hold training sessions, but you can always contact a trainer to learn more!
Rover makes it easy to find San Francisco dog trainers to provide loving care from their own home. The background-checked, 5-star trainers you can find on Rover will work with you and your dog to build new skills and address behaviors. Dog trainers can work on:
- Puppy training, adult dog training, agility training, clicker training and advanced training.
- Behaviors such as barking, leash manners, leash reactivity, house manners, jumping, fearful behavior, anxious behavior, separation distress, recall, biting, chewing, mouthiness, potty training and resource guarding.
Of course! Having a trainer that is the right fit for both you and your pup is an important step to reaching your training goals. We recommend reaching out to any trainer that interests you.
