Johnatan took care of my dog for 2 weeks. He’d feed her and walk her twice a day. He was always respectful and kept me posted about my dog’s activities. He washed the linens before departing and even gave my dog a quick bath (he forgot the blow-drying part though). As much as I’d like to give him 5 stars, there’s still room for improvement as he forgot to leave the sliding door open for the dog to go outside leading to the dog peeing and popping inside of the house. He sometimes took 8+ hours to get back home and a couple of nights he wasn’t able to return at all and my dog slept alone. The latter due to he working part time at a place located 1 hr away from our home. Overall, a thrustful boy who just needs to get more experience.

About: I’ve lived with animals my whole life; at both houses we had at least 3 cats and 3 dogs at a time with the occasional hamster, rat, snake, or rabbit. I’ve adopted most of my pets from shelters, and have helped raised two litters (one was kittens, the other was puppies). Having a wide variety of animals introduced me to a wide array of personality types from friendly and cuddly to moody or shy. These experiences have taught me to have an abundance of patience and understanding, and to be able to adapt to individual needs. The animals I’ve watched/raised/trained have been all different breeds and sizes; from a 3 pound chihuahua to a 85 pound German/Pitt mix. I’ve taken care of older dogs, who need extra care, as well as sick dogs and/or dogs with preexisting conditions who require medications once, twice, or three times a day. Not only have I helped with my animals, but I’ve watched other peoples houses/pets as well. I’m pretty much a homebody, so aside from a couple hours each day, I’m available and flexible and can hangout with your pets for as long as you need. I’m a great communicator too, so if an issue were to arise, I will reach out right away because your pet’s health and well-being is my top priority. I’m currently self-employed, so my schedule is open and flexible. I do prefer a couple of days of notice in advanced, unless it’s an emergency. I will take care of your pet however you need me to. When it comes your pets health and well-being, I know you know what’s best, and I will never disrespect your wants or needs. If you need me to house sit, I will respect your property. I’m very neat, organized, and clean (slightly OCD) so I would never leave a mess.

About: Hi there! I’m a total people person with a heart that easily extends to pups of all sizes! I’ve been working as an Autism Specialist since I was 19, so patience, intuition, and building strong, trusting connections are truly my superpowers. I like to say I have that special energy humans and dogs both adore! For the past 7 years, I’ve been dog sitting for families in and around my neighborhood, as well as my parents’ neighborhood, caring for their fur babies like they’re my own. I understand how important it is for your dog to feel safe, comfortable, and loved while you’re away. I live in a spacious 2bedroom apartment with a spare room that gives pups plenty of indoor space to play and relax. Our complex also has lots of grassy areas perfect for fresh air, potty breaks, and nice walks. Whether your dog loves a structured routine, playtime, or cozy cuddle sessions, I’m happy to meet their needs! I’m reliable, communicative, and naturally attentive. and I genuinely get excited to host and care for pups in my home. Your dog’s happiness and well being will always be my priority. I can’t wait to meet your fur baby! 🐶✨ I work from home on Mondays, Thursdays, and Fridays, so your pup will have lots of supervision and attention on those days! I’m also available most weekends if you’re planning a little getaway and need reliable care! I care for every dog like they’re my own, keeping them on their normal routine as much as possible. I provide plenty of supervised playtime, structured walks, potty breaks, and cozy rest time in a safe, calm environment. Ariena took fantastic care of our elderly lab for about a week, she was a wonderful house guest and most importantly made our pup feel like a million bucks! Ariena gave frequent updates and it was clear she really enjoyed spending time with our dog which felt so comforting. At the last minute our dog needed some complicated medication administered, ariena took care of that no problem. Ariena also has a great personality and is funny and kind. Highly recommend!!!

About: I have been taking care of my family’s and friends dog/pets for years now due to my love of animals, I made sure they are well fed and taken care of no matter what. Nothing makes me sadder than a suffering animal, so I make sure they are taken care of no matter what! I can usually do it after my classes during the week days but I tend not to want to do weekends since I need the free time to make sure I have everything in my personal life taken care of. I make sure my own dog gets her daily walk in the morning before feeding her then once I get home I take her for a walk again before making dinner for her and myself. And of course playing with her outside in my backyard and letting her lay with me if fireworks goes off since she is deathly afraid of them.

Alisha is an amazing dog sitter. This was our first time using Rover and a dog sitter who we’ve never met before and could not be more happier. Bo is an older 14 year old dog and has special needs such as wearing a diaper and medication. Alisha was so patient, kind and loving with him. She provided us with pictures and updates throughout the week and graciously cared for his elder needs. The best thing was being greeted by a calm and happy dog.

Nicole was an amazing dog sitter, and I would use her again in a heartbeat. My dachshund is an older guy, and he is both deaf and struggling with dementia, which means that he requires a lot of care and help. Nicole was incredibly accommodating with regard to his needs - organizing her household to make it safe for him, watching him closely when he was around other dogs, etc. Nicole is also very gracious. For example, I found out upon returning from a two week trip that my dog had been waking her up really early. Rather than complaining about that - which would have been totally justified! - she figured out a way to deal with his early morning needs. Communication was wonderful, I received updates and pictures multiple times a day, and when I picked my pooch up, he seemed happy and well adjusted. Thank you so much Nicole!!

About: Hi! I’m a dog lover with 3 years of experience caring for dogs of different personalities and energy levels. I work from home, which allows me to give pups plenty of attention and take them on 3–4 walks a day around the neighborhood. I live 3 blocks from Lake Chabot and love taking dogs on walks there so they can enjoy fresh air, exercise, and new smells. My goal is to make every dog feel safe, happy, and loved while you’re away. I also send daily photo and video updates so you can see how your pup is doing. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions. Thanks! :) I work from home, so I can spend lots of quality time with your pup! I’m available for boarding on both weekdays and weekends. I live in a house with my mom and occasionally help my sister and boyfriend take care of their pets, so I’m comfortable caring for dogs and understanding their needs. I can provide plenty of walks, playtime, attention, and care throughout the day to help your pup feel safe and comfortable.

This was the best boarding experience we ever had! Tinwa and JieYing took such good care of 8 year old dog. Our dog has some special needs and they made sure all of his needs were met and gave him all of the attention in the world. We received photos and videos everyday of our dog having a great time. It was so nice to know that he was being loved and cared for rather than just fed and walked. Would 100% rebook again!

Alisha did a wonderful job caring for our two dogs while we were overseas for two weeks. This was our first time hiring a house sitter, and were a bit anxious about leaving our pups (a 9 month old and a 16 year old) with a new person, but Alisha's friendliness and professionalism made us feel comfortable right away. Everything went smoothly, we received regular updates and responses to our communications. When we came home the house was sparkling and the pups were happy! We will definitely be repeat customers!

FAQs for House Sitting - San Leandro

Frequently asked questions about Rover

The average cost for House Sitting in San Leandro on Rover is $55.5 per night (as of July 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.

Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .

As of July 2026, there are 9,324 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across San Leandro. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:

  • Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
  • Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
  • Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
  • Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.

The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred San Leandro walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.

It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in San Leandro maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:

  • Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
  • Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
  • Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.

Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!

Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in San Leandro choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!

The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.

All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.

Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.

Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .

If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.

For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.

Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.

A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.

Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.

Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.

If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.

Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in San Leandro. On Rover:

  • 92% of sitters can help with special care needs
  • 95% can help with giving oral medications or injections
  • 95% can help with daily exercise

You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.

Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
