Tori was absolutely wonderful. Our dog is very skittish and does not warm up to people easily, but within minutes of meeting Tori, she was affectionate and clearly comfortable. Tori was incredibly responsive, responsible, proactive, attentive, and respectful throughout the entire stay. She kept us updated, took amazing care of our dog, and treated our home with real care. It gave us so much peace of mind knowing both our dog and house were in such capable hands. We cannot recommend Tori highly enough and are already planning to book her again to stay at our house when we travel later this summer.

My cats warmed right up to Demi! It was a great peace of mind having her stay in my home with them so they wouldn't be bored or lonely with an empty house while I was away on a weekend trip. Demi was communicative and sent frequent updates and pictures, which I really appreciated. I will definitely be booking with her again!

About: I’ve had cats for about 7 years and have always loved caring for them. I’ve also rescued several kittens and helped find them good homes. One of the reasons I’m majoring in Veterinary Assisting is because I’ve seen how cats are often overlooked, and I want to help give them the care they deserve. I’ll treat your cat like my own and make sure they feel safe, comfortable, and loved while you’re away. Since it’s summer, my schedule is very flexible. I do have a part-time job, but my shifts are usually only a few hours long and vary throughout the week. Outside of work, I have plenty of time to care for your pets and give them the attention they deserve. I will make sure your pets are well cared for while you’re away, and I’ll send regular photo updates so you can have peace of mind knowing they’re happy and safe. Your pet’s safety and well-being are always my top priorities. I’m reliable, attentive, and genuinely care about making sure pets are happy and comfortable. I make it a point to check on them regularly, give them plenty of attention, and make sure their needs are met. As a pet owner myself, I understand how important it is to know your pets are in good hands.

Natalie was amazing! She took great care of the dogs, including a troublesome puppy, and was super respectful of the house, the schedule, and our time! She took the request last-minute which was great and she was flexible and experienced with handling my dogs’ varying energy levels. She also contacted me right away when there was an issue and handled it like a pro! Would definitely book again & recommend.

About: I pet cared for my family and friends when they go out of town. I also have pet cared for two liters of golden doodle puppies. I have a very flexible schedule when it comes to pet care. I'm a current student talking online classes. Open to weekends and holidays if needed. I treat every pet as if they were my own and always follow the owner's care instructions closely. I make sure pets have fresh water, are fed on schedule, get plenty of exercise and attention, and stay in a safe, clean environment. I pay close attention to their behavior and comfort thought the time I will be watching them. If I am in a clients home, I respect their space, keep everything tidy, and maintain the pet's normal routine. Safety is my top priority, so I always use secure leashes during walks, keep doors and gates closed, and never leave pets unattended in unsafe situations.

About: Dogs have been part of my life for almost as long as I can remember. I grew up with dogs, and my parents bred and showed Dobermans, so I was surrounded from an early age by thoughtful, consistent dog care and training. With only a few gaps during college and early adulthood, I've had a dog by my side throughout my entire life. I'm currently a dog owner myself, and my dog is very much part of my everyday life. That's also how I approach boarding. Rather than caring for a large group of dogs, I prefer to host one guest at a time so they can settle into our household and receive plenty of individual attention, companionship, walks, play, and affection. I'm home much of the day, so a visiting dog isn't routinely left alone for long stretches. I believe dogs respond best to patience, consistency, clear boundaries, positive interaction, and lots of affection. I also know every dog has its own personality, habits, and comfort level, so I want to learn what makes your dog feel safe and at home. My goal is simple: while you're away, your dog gets to live as a beloved member of the household rather than feeling like they're being sent away to boarding. I work primarily from home, and my own dog is already my near-constant companion, so caring for another dog fits very naturally into my daily life. When I board a dog, my intention is for them to join our household and our routine rather than spend long stretches of the day alone. That means plenty of companionship, regular walks and outdoor time, play, relaxation, and, when it's appropriate for the individual dog, coming along with us on dog-friendly outings. I take my own dog with me frequently and am happy to do the same with a guest who enjoys it. Most importantly, I adjust the routine to the dog. Some dogs love being out and about; others are happiest relaxing somewhere familiar and quiet. During their stay, I pay attention to what makes them comfortable and adapt accordingly. I want each dog in my care to feel safe, included, and genuinely at home while their family is away. Safety starts with making sure a dog is a good fit for our home. Before a first stay, I prefer to meet with you and your dog and introduce them to my dog so we can make sure everyone is comfortable together. I strive to understand your dog's normal routine, personality, feeding and walking schedule, house rules, medications or special needs, and anything that makes them anxious, excited, or especially happy. I follow your instructions and try to keep familiar routines consistent while adapting to what I observe during the stay. I host only one guest dog at a time, which allows me to give them plenty of individual attention and closely monitor how they're settling in. I use leashes and secure handling outdoors, keep food and other potential sources of conflict managed carefully, and never assume that two dogs who get along well don't still need thoughtful supervision. Most importantly, I pay attention. Dogs communicate constantly through their behavior, and I want to notice when a guest is relaxed, uncomfortable, tired, excited, or needs something different. My goal is to provide a safe, calm home where your dog can become part of the family while they're in my care.

About: Animals have always been a passion of mine. I have over 11 years on and off and 5 years of hands-on experience caring for both dogs and cats. I've worked as a veterinary assistant in multiple settings, including a feline-focused practice and a facility that specialized in dog boarding and walking. These experiences taught me how to safely handle animals with different personalities, energy levels, medical needs, and comfort levels. Because of my veterinary background, I'm comfortable recognizing changes in behavior, stress, discomfort, and potential health concerns. I understand the importance of routine, patience, and positive interactions, and I strive to make every pet feel safe, comfortable, and cared for while their owner is away. Whether your pet needs an energetic walk, playtime, medication support, extra attention, or simply a calm and reliable companion, I'll treat them with the same love and respect I would my own. My goal is to provide dependable care and give pet parents peace of mind knowing their furry family member is in good hands. I currently work full time at the zoo so my time is limited to before and after work and my weekends but I will do what I need to to meet your needs. I will always follow the owners instructions to a T and even go above and beyond to try and ease the clients worries in whatever ways I need to.

Daria was absolutely wonderful on all fronts! She’s extremely timely with her communication/ responses and makes sure she understands all instructions before the visit starts. We have a senior dog with many needs including being carried up/down stairs and on a strict medication schedule, and Daria was very patient, meticulous in administering the medication, kept both dogs on schedule, and sent us photos and updates throughout our trip! We could tell they had been well taken care of and well-loved (and cuddled!) upon our return. The house/ guest space was kept very tidy. It would be an honor to have Daria watch our babies and home again in the future.

He sent lots of photos and updates and even took her to the pet store a few times to pick out treats and get a much needed rain coat. She even tried to go home with him when he was leaving when we got home. 😂 I can’t recommend Anthony enough. We already have requested a few re-bookings.

About: Hi there! My name is Brian and I am excited for the opportunity to take care of your doggo/s. I have over 10 years of experience taking care of dogs. I took care of 2 of my own dogs growing up and friends and family have relied on me to walk, feed, and care for their pets. If you are on Rover, I am guessing that you have a lot on your plate and are looking for someone to take good care of your fur baby. Having grown up with numerous dogs of my own, I know how anxious it can be to leave your doggo in the care of someone else. If you choose to go with me, I can assure you that I will love and care for them as my own. Hiring a dog walker gives you the peace of mind that your dog is well taken care of, even when you aren’t at home. With a daily dog walker, you don’t have to worry as much if you need to stay late for work, or if your dog doesn’t completely “finish” when you take them out in the morning. The knowledge that your dog will get quality time outdoors during the day also helps relieve the guilt or stress held by knowing your pup is otherwise locked up alone, often for 8 or more hours every day. You can feel confident that you are doing the best you can for your pup, and that your dog is living a rewarding, happy life.

We all live busy lives, and every minute counts. Sometimes, consistent lengthy walks are difficult to fit into our schedules. We often wake up extra early, head home for our lunch hours, and delay making dinner for our families in an effort to make sure our dogs get the care they need. With a regular dog walker, your dog still gets all of the exercise and attention they deserve, while you get back a great deal of time. Everyone wins! I can do drop-ins or house sits where I can come to your house and make sure your doggo is taken good care of by going out to go potty, is fed, needs a fresh bowl of water, or just some cuddling. We can do a walk around your neighborhood, go on a fun adventure at a nearby park, or we can even take a short drive and go for a hike! If your pets prefer a certain route please let me know or we could just go where ever the sniffs will lead us. I am very physically active and would be able to give your dog a physical, happy, and stimulating experience during walks while keeping them safe. Whatever service I am providing for you, I will do so to the best of my ability. I will care for your dog (no matter the age, size, or breed) and make sure they are safe and have a great time! ***If your doggo has any treats or food containing peanuts or peanut butter, I would greatly appreciate it if you would let me know ahead of time as I have a very severe peanut allergy. Thanks!*** New to Rover? Get $20 off your first booking by using the promo code BRIAN10548 *Valid for first-time Rover customers only*

Angelique was so kind to do a visit ahead of time, was very communicative, and organized her schedule around our dogs. My dog loves to cuddle and definitely got all of the love from Angelique. We’d love to have her back to stay at our place with cooper in the future.

FAQs for House Sitting - Castro Valley

Frequently asked questions about Rover

The average cost for House Sitting in Castro Valley on Rover is $77.42 per night (as of August 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.

Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .

As of August 2026, there are 9,636 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Castro Valley. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:

  • Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
  • Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
  • Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
  • Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.

The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Castro Valley walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.

It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Castro Valley maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:

  • Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
  • Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
  • Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.

Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!

Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Castro Valley choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!

The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.

All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.

Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.

Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .

If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.

For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.

Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.

A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.

Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.

Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.

If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.

Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Castro Valley. On Rover:

You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
