“A HUGE Thank You to Eleanna! She was incredibly flexible with our schedules, took great care with our Xiao Xiao, very communicative and just an overall sweetheart which made our time even better. We felt at ease and that’s so important. Absolutely booking her again!”

“This was the second time that Diana cared for our pitbull mix, Miso and our home while we were traveling. She is communicative and caring and we were once again completely at ease knowing that our girl was in great hands! Thank you Diana! ❤️”

“Tina helped us out with our two dogs for a second time, this time pet sitting in our home. Tina was great, sent us updates, and was generally easy to work with. Would definitely hire Tina again. Thank you Tina!”

About: My preferred first name is Bear. I have 5+ years experience volunteering in rescue shelters with both dogs and cats and I’ve definitely developed a knack for befriending anxious/shy animals. I’ve also worked professionally as a dog bather working with dogs of all ages and sizes. I also have experience leash training dogs and training a few basic commands. I’ve done a lot of cat sitting as well (in homes with up to 11 indoor cats!). I’m currently in school pursuing a nursing degree. My summer class schedule allows me to go for walks and check ins during mornings and early afternoons. I have done a lot of pet sitting in the pet’s homes. I understand the importance of respecting my clients’ property and I always leave the property in the same condition as when I arrived, if not better. If you are a gamer, I will never mess with your save files (many past clients seem to have this concern lol).
“Dane took amazing care of our little Peanut and our house! He went above and beyond taking many pictures and giving us updates. He took Peanut on long walks and did training sessions with her — it was very clear she was having a blast. Dane also generously watered our plants and left our house cleaner than he found it! Would highly recommend Dane to anyone looking for a sitter and we look forward to booking with him again :)”

“Rachel did a wonderful job watching my 7 year old dog Scooter and taking care of my home. She followed my instructions perfectly; developed a warm relationship with my dog Scooter; kept me updated with photos and reports; and even left me with an oil pastel sketch that captured his sweet spirit perfectly. I returned home to a clean and tidy home and a happy pup. I highly recommend Rachel as a pet sitter in your home.”

“Michelle was absolutely fabulous! She was able to watch my two dogs on very short notice while I was in Oakland to visit family. My dogs loved her! She took great care of them, taking them on multiple walks throughout the day and providing attention when needed. She we be the first person I reach out to when I am in the Oakland area again. Thank you Michelle!”

About: I had a dog for 15 years and a cat for 2 years, giving me experience with pets at all stages of life. They are very special and I have a deep passion for caretaking, one that extends to your pets! I can also administer medications if needed. I am a student at UCSF on summer break. I have availability most days—weekdays and weekends, just need a few days notice! I am also a night owl so I can watch your pets well into the evenings! I have a fenced backyard and live in a dog-friendly neighborhood. I love going on long walks around here solo, and a pet companion would make that even better! For cats, I can also take them on walks (if they’re those types of cats haha) or can just stay inside and play with toys.
“Meshaal took great care of our 55 lb pup and our cat in our home while we were on vacation! They were thorough in preparing for the job, very communicative while we were away, and followed all of our feeding and exercise instructions. We would definitely have Meshaal sit for us again!”
“Cara stayed with our new puppy and older cat while we were on our first vacation away from the little one. She did such a wonderful job and we felt so relieved knowing our pets were in such good hands with her. Highly recommend Cara!”

About: Hi! I’m Arianna. I enjoy and have plenty of experience sitting with animals! I love to go on long walks with dogs or taking a perfect pet photo. I have tons of experience making the perfect pet meal, cleaning a littler box, giving medication to dogs, and overall just spending time with animals. I am a part time student and I have plenty of time to sit and play with pets. Lots of time for long walks and drop-ins! I also love to just sit and spend time with animals who prefer to stay in. I do not house pets in my home, however I am committed to bringing a safe environment to your pets! I will always be aware of myself, my surroundings, and your pets surroundings.
“Bryanna was great! Ready to jump in and help in anyway possible. Took a last minute booking that REALLY helped us. Bryanna was more than happy to go over details with us before the sitting. All the questions Bryanna asked us about our dog and his needs made it apparent that our dog would be cared for while we were gone. We came back to a happy, tired, and well-cared for dog! Would absolutely book again 😊”

“My chihuahua and sisters German shepherd/black lab mix loved having Angelique stay with them during our weekend away. Angelique was so kind to do a visit ahead of time, was very communicative, and organized her schedule around our dogs. My dog loves to cuddle and definitely got all of the love from Angelique. We’d love to have her back to stay at our place with cooper in the future.”

About: I’ve been housesitting and taking care of pets for about 10 years. I work remotely full-time so this allows me to spend time with the fur babies and be present. I’m comfortable with anything thrown my way. I have taken care of big and small dogs, cats, bunnies, hamsters, etc. I also have experience administering medicine if needed. I work remotely so I am able to spend loads of time with your fur babies. I’m available every day and any time. I teach dance classes as well but that usually is only twice a week for an hour or so. I will make sure your pets are safe with me and follow any instructions you may leave. I treat your pet as if they were mine and will make sure to check in with you to give you peace of mind, if you wish.
“Anais took excellent care of our pets and home while we were away for the weekend. Our dog can be a little finicky and needs a lot of company, but Anais was enthusiastic about getting to know his routine and we arrived home to find relaxed animals and the house just like we left it (she even washed her sheets - really not necessary!). Thanks Anais!”

“This was our first time using Rover and we loved having Qishu watch our dogs overnight. She sent lots of photos throughout her stay with our dogs. One of our dogs is anxious and leash-reactive, and we didn’t hear of any issues. She kept our condo clean and was very communicative. We highly recommend her.”

About: I grew up with 6 pit bulls, taking sun baths with them in my backyard. I’ve volunteered in SF SPCA and donate monthly. My best friend aka Herita is a rescue, she’s been with me for over 3 years now. I believe animals have taught me how to love unconditionally and responsibly. Calm, trust and safety are my top priorities. I hope you give me the chance to connect with you and your fur baby/ babies. I work from home. I normally take Hera on a walk every morning for about 30 mins. Come back and hit the gym. After that I’m free. I can always head over in the am, afternoon or evenings. I have a fenced yard, Herita is spayed and loves to play with other dogs. Her bff is a 3 y/o Doberman. Which I take care of a couple of times a week (take her out on walks and feed her)

Jana did such a great job visiting and caring for my two kitties. She takes great photos which is very soothing when you’re missing your fur babies. She was consistent and great with communication. And she did great at connecting with my kitties. I will definitely hire her again!

Sara was a wonderful cat sitter! This was the longest I’d ever been away from my cat Hopper but she put my mind at ease - Sara was a great communicator, sent cute photo and video updates, and kept on top of Hopper’s health. She also took great care of my apartment. Hopper definitely has a new bestie. I’d highly recommend booking with Sara!

Elisa was wonderful with our Chow Chow, Poppy. Chows can be a little reserved with new people, but Elisa was incredibly patient, calm, and understanding, which helped Poppy feel comfortable. She kept us updated with messages and photos throughout the stay, and it was clear Poppy was well cared for and happy. She also took great care of our home and was thoughtful, reliable, and easy to communicate with from start to finish. We came home to a relaxed dog and everything exactly as we left it, which gave us so much peace of mind while we were away. We would absolutely book Elisa again and highly recommend her to anyone looking for a trustworthy, compassionate sitter!! Thank you Elisa!

Adela has watched out two cats a few times now and she’s always so wonderful! She answers messages quickly, sends lots of pictures and follows all their care instructions so well ❤️✨she also house sits for us and sleeps overnight at the house to make sure its secure and our boys are safe! We highly reccommend her! ✨

Bryanna was A-MAZ-ZING. she sent me multiple updates a day along with photos and videos. My kitty can get sad and low energy when I travel, so it was so nice to see her engage burger with playtime and toys! My house was super clean after she left so will 100% be hiring Bryanna again!

Emilia and Ion are a super team! They do a great job for our weekly walks and an even better job as house & pet sitters! They visiting our two dogs 4x daily and generously kept them company inbetween visits too! They even watered our garden! I couldn’t ask for a single thing more in a sitter and will definitely be using them again

Brooke was fantastic with Jadie. She communicated well, made sure she understood Jadie’s needs and asked for clarification when something wasn’t clear. She provided updates and pictures. She also was very helpful and patient with several last minute schedule changes from my end. Most importantly, Jadie was happy and relaxed when I got her back. Highly recommend Brooke!

Shareese did an outstanding job while caring for our 12 year old dog in our home. We returned from a six day trip to a very relaxed dog that was clearly well loved during our absence. While away, Shareese provided fun and rather artistically composed photo check-ins. We will definitely book again.

My sensitive kitty, Mitta, was in great hands with Vivien while I was completely offline for a week. Mitta was immediately in love with Vivien's pets and scratches when we did our meet and greet. It felt really good to be able to trust Mitta was getting some good loving attention and care with her anxiety medication while I was away. Thank you Vivien!

Frequently asked questions about Rover
The average cost for House Sitting in Alameda on Rover is $63.57 per night (as of July 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.
Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .
As of July 2026, there are 8,731 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Alameda. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.
Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Alameda walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Alameda maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Alameda choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.

You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
