“Annika, John, and Pepper are perfect sitters for our shy dog! She gets lots of time to play/explore, spoiled with cuddles, and loves going over there. They’re always communicative throughout the stay.”

“Taylor and Liv were the best when it came to taking care of Atlas! They were very attentive, detail oriented, and made sure to update me daily on how Atlas was doing. They took him on plenty of walks and gave him lots of cuddles. I will absolutely be using them again in in the near future.”

“Marybeth and family took good care of our dog Toby for a week. I believe Toby had as good a vacation as we did! He got to play with Zoey and keep an eye on the cats. He spent time relaxing on the back deck watching the chickens. Working out the details with Marybeth was easy and she's quick to respond. She's obviously good with animals.”

“Madeline took great care of our dog, Odi. She was flexible with her schedule when we needed to shift by 1 day and super communicative with whatever requests or questions we had. I would trust her to watch Odi anytime.”

“Navi was The BEST! I love meeting people who really “get” how ridiculous dogs are in all the best ways. Great communication and I felt 100% confident with his care of our anxious muppet. Our dog made a new best friend. ❤️”

“Heath and Amy were wonderful! They took great care of Eloise and were patient and attentive to her timidness with new people. I appreciated the communication, updates and photos. Eloise got along great with their pup and they played and enjoyed each others company. I will book Eloise a stay with Health and Amy again in the future! Thanks again for taking care of my sweet girl.”

“Veronica was great with our two dogs. She has a calming manner and our nervous border collie when away from home appeared totally at ease in the sweet photos that she sent us. And I’m sure our husky enjoyed playing with her huskies. They all made a good pack. 😊”

“Rebecca is the only sitter I trust Stella with for an extended stay! She sent me frequent picture updates and I could tell she embraced Stella as part of her own pack, letting her sleep on the bed, giving her a take-home toy when she fell in love with a rubber chicken, even taking her to the Coast while I was away. So thankful we have Rebecca as Stella's sitter and boarder!”

“We left our Labradoodle with Erin and her family for about two weeks and we couldn’t be happier with the service they provided. Erin is responsive, flexible, and most importantly kind which really put us at ease for our two weeks away. She provided daily updates with pictures and we would definitely recommend booking with her 👍.”

“Allen took care of Mischa like it was his own. He sends so many great pics and updates, it made us feel so comfortable. His space is perfect for pups to have space to play and interact with other dogs. We will definitely continue to use Allen for boarding/sitting. Thanks Allen!”

Pet parents share their Rover experiences - Portland
I was very pleased with Fin who kept me updated about Blackjack. He had a couple of issues that concerned Fin regarding his digestive system. I reassured her that sometimes he does have challenges. He was fine the first seven days so likely stressed with the number of days he was at Fin’s home. Fin sent a number of photos that showed Blackjack was totally enjoying himself! I highly recommend Fin as a Dogsitter. Her backyard is a great place for dogs to hang out as is her home. I was impressed by the fact that she walked the dogs twice a day and also only takes one dog at a time.! Fin works from home so Blackjack got constant attention!

Wolf did such a great job with Penny. I hate being apart from her but it was reassuring to know all of the adventures they were going on and really sweet to see how comfortable she was. He is going to be my first choice the next time I need a babysitter for Penny!

Elliot's an amazing sitter! I was extremely anxious about giving up my boy for a night, and kept nonstop catastrophizing things. Elliot was super chill and patient, sent pictures, and was really kind (despite my neuroticism). I would definitely trust him with anyone's pet. :)

Kimo took great care of our pup. He sent daily updates with pictures. He also took the time to meet us in advance to get to know our dog and for us to get to know him before we booked a reservation with him. Our girl seems happy and cared for. Would recommend Kimo.

Christine and Steven took such good care of our Jimmy! They were super communicative, sent us delightful photos, and even created a beautiful drawing. I never worried about Jimmy while he was in their care. I highly recommend Christine and Steven. Thank you for welcoming Jimmy into your home! He can’t wait to return!

Brittany was so wonderful with our Bear! She was communicative throughout his stay, sending regular updates (including poop-dates!) and photos, and followed Bear's schedule as closely as possible. She was also attentive to Bear’s preferences, accommodating his slower pace on walks. Her thoughtful updates gave us peace of mind while we were away and allowed us to fully enjoy our trip. It was clear that Bear was well cared for and happy. We would absolutely book with Brittany again and highly recommend her to anyone looking for a caring and reliable dog sitter.

Aaron was very kind with Ghost and patient with his food-motivated antics. He sent a few photos during the stay, and Ghost seemed comfortable around him. Aaron was also open and honest when I followed up with questions after the stay, which I appreciated. Overall, I’m thankful he cared for Ghost and was willing to work with his mischievous personality!

My dog Moe had such a great time with Lonnie! She is reactive and I needed a last-minute sitter. I usually don’t go for folks without a backyard due to her anger towards other dogs, but Lonnie handled it like a professional and made me feel at ease! I will definitely be reaching back out for future sittings!

Bee was absolutely amazing! My dog is super anxious and has lots of quirks and they managed it all so well. Bee gave me lots of updates and went above and beyond to make my dog comfortable. They sat with him his first night and took the time to encourage him to eat his dinner, hand feeding him his kibble! They also stayed up with him when he was anxious and wouldn’t settle in for bed. I could not ask for a better person to watch over my anxious little guy.

A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
While each sitter sets their own vaccine requirements, staying up-to-date on your dog’s vaccines is the best way to be "boarding ready". Vaccinations help create a safe environment for all pets under a sitter’s care.
Many sitters in OR ask that dogs be up to date on core vaccines like the Canine Parvovirus, Canine Distemper, Canine Adenovirus, Bordetella, and Rabies. Cats may be required to have Feline Viral Rhinotracheitis and Rabies up to date.
By discussing your pet's health history early, you’re adding a layer of confidence for you and your sitter before the booking begins.
Emergency support is available by phone or email in English 24/7. When an incident occurs, we recommend that sitters contact our Trust & Safety team immediately so that they can connect your sitter with a board-certified veterinarian or offer other resources to help.
If a sitter needs to cancel at the last minute, Rover’s reservation protection means our team will work with you to find a suitable replacement as quickly as possible.
