Meg is fantastic! From the start, her approach was calm, strategic, and supportive, exactly what we needed for behavioral correction and training support. She jumped right in, asked thoughtful questions, and got to work. Her training style is strengths based which has been incredibly effective for our dogs. If you're looking for a trainer who knows what they're doing and genuinely cares about getting it right, Meg is the one. 10/10, would recommend her to anyone. We're excited to keep working with her.

We have had one session with Willow and are looking forward to the second one. She is great!!! Very patient and informative. She gave us some great tips and things to work on in between session that have already been helping. It’s also very helpful having her come to my home and see my dog and how he acts in his normal surroundings. She has a lot of knowledge and I look forward to learning everything she knows.

Angyl was great. We just met for a consultation so far but she helped me learn how to create train my Stella so we can all get some good sleep and it worked! She cried a little bit not like before. I learned so much already and can’t wait for our next sessions!

Our timid dog Tofu had trouble going outside on walks and would either shut down and lay on the ground or try to get back inside by pulling hard on the leash. Once he even pulled back so hard he slipped out of his harness. After a few sessions of training, Tofu was able to walk properly without pulling and has progressed so much since he first started. Young introduced the martingale collar to us and was very patient with Tofu who has now built up so much confidence and enjoys walking outside.

About: Instead of just teaching dogs, tricks or correcting them when they're bad and rewarding them when they're good, i'm actually using dog language to help teach dogs the rules in a human household so that they can understand the similarities between pack living in a dog house and in a human house. This allows for a much deeper bond and understanding that lasts.

Kelley is fantastic! We were lucky enough to book her for a consultation within the first few days of bringing home our 3y old rescue dog. She walked in with a relaxed and confident presence and Mars responded to her positively. She observed and chatted with us for a bit to understand what type of behaviors we want to work on. She had a training plan for us the next day and we had our first training session shortly after. At the first training, Kelley brought the same professional and easy presence and was responsive to what we wanted to focus on, including a last minute pivot after our priorities changed.

The consultation was a great help to me and my dog. My dog was anxious around new people and experiences and I needed help to teach her techniques to build confidence. Natalie was able to start training right away and provided recommendations to help in the future. Will use again for follow up appts to make sure we are improving appropriately.

Tina has been very thorough and reassuring. She explains the goal and how long the training should take. I was very frustrated before starting and since our training sessions feel like a calmer owner. Ive had my 4 yr old pittie a little over a year and he has some quirks but is also more relaxed now that my commands are more clear.

Our dog literally tap dances with excitement when he's meeting Cyrus! Seeing how they greet each other with a big hug says it all. It doesn't matter whether they are going out on adventures, having new socialization experiences, or staying together for a couple of weeks; we trust Cyrus to take brilliant care of our dog because he is always kind, empathetic, engaging, and patient with him.

Dog Training FAQs

Frequently asked questions about Rover

Trainers listing on Rover must be credentialed dog trainers, commit to reward-based training methods, and pass a background check to offer dog training in Portland.

Reward-based training encourages dogs to offer desired behaviors by reinforcing the behavior with something the dog likes; treats, play, or toys. Reward-based training prioritizes using the least intrusive intervention; it promotes thinking rather than punishing mistakes.

When rewards are used, the likelihood the behavior is repeated increases. The positive connection to the reward results in making learning enjoyable, strengthens the human animal bond and over time leads to consistent desired behaviors.

Training can happen many places — your home, a park, a store, or anywhere else that you and your trainer decide is best for the training you are doing! Many trainers will recommend training in your home. This allows them to observe your dog in their natural environment so they can effectively assess and best help reach your training goals.

Trainers will often mention on their profile where they typically hold training sessions, but you can always contact a trainer to learn more!

If you’re searching for a dog trainer in Portland for the first time, visit the trainer’s profile and select the Contact button.

If you have an active request or have booked a service with a trainer before, learn more about how to do this in the Rover app or on your computer.

Rover makes it easy to find Portland dog trainers to provide loving care from their own home. The background-checked, 5-star trainers you can find on Rover will work with you and your dog to build new skills and address behaviors. Dog trainers can work on:

  • Puppy training, adult dog training, agility training, clicker training and advanced training.
  • Behaviors such as barking, leash manners, leash reactivity, house manners, jumping, fearful behavior, anxious behavior, separation distress, recall, biting, chewing, mouthiness, potty training and resource guarding.

Of course! Having a trainer that is the right fit for both you and your pup is an important step to reaching your training goals. We recommend reaching out to any trainer that interests you. Your initial request is not final until both you and the trainer decide you want to move forward with booking.

Also, trainers may offer or require consultations. Make sure to ask trainers so you can make the best decision for you and your pet.

Many trainers on Rover indicate experience in a wide range of behaviors, from puppy training to more advanced behaviors and training types.

Review a trainer’s profile to see if their experience aligns with your needs, and if you have questions, don’t hesitate to contact them to ensure they’re the right trainer for you and your pet.

We get it—sometimes plans change and you may need to cancel your dog training service. You can cancel an upcoming booking directly from the Rover app or your computer, in accordance with your trainer’s cancellation policy.

Note: If your dog trainer requested to cancel this booking, then they need to cancel from their account. Please contact them via Rover Messages.
