“Char and Ben were fantastic pet sitters for my two Danes. It was obvious from the meet and greet that they had experience and were very comfortable around X-lg dogs! The communication and photos were top notch. My dogs are quirky and Char and Ben were able to work with them on their picky eating and fear of the floor register. The Danes were very content when I came home so I knew they had gotten their needs met while I was gone. Bodhi is now moping around as he misses his new buddies. Highly recommend them and will definitely use them again.”

“Shannon was awesome! She took great care of our new puppy and our cat, kept the house in great shape, and communicated clearly throughout the weekend. We felt completely at ease knowing everything was in such good hands. Highly recommend her.”

“I’ve used Kayla more than once to watch my kitties. Each time, she’s incredibly communicative, responsible, reliable, and sends a ton of photos! She’s kept my apartment clean and organized, and it takes a huge weight off my shoulders knowing my home and my babies are in good hands. I travel a good bit, and I’m happy to continue booking Kayla in the future as long as she’s available.”

“Meagan was on time, took great care of our sweet girl and left our home tidy. She is very conscientious about care instructions and did all we asked including medication administration. We would not hesitate to hire again!”

“If could give Olivia a 10 star review, I would. Olivia is the best of the best. We got home and she had made a special GF treat for us, she drew little pictures of our puppies and had some flowers on the counter. I can't say enough amazing things about her. Our dogs absolutely loved her immediately and she really went above and beyond for us and them. We have one special needs puppy and the other one was recovering from an injury. She took it all in stride and went with the flow. And, she text us pictures and updates daily, sometimes multiple times a day. She is the absolutely best person I have ever found for pet sitting and I have hired quite a few people. On top of this, she is also kind. Do yourself a favor and hire her.”

“Maxwell stayed with my huge dog for a week and, as usual, was incredible, reliable, communicative about everything, quick to respond, flexible, understanding, and most importantly, so very wonderful to my dog :) She stayed through a storm and I was able to not worry at all about him. 10/10”

“Ashanay was fantastic with Cujo! I came back to a happy pup and a tidy apt. Highly recommend working with her and I already have her booked for another round of housesitting, thank you Ashanay!”

“Kirby stayed with our dog and cat for six nights and followed special diet instructions for our dog, which we appreciated. Both pets seemed well cared for when we returned home, and our home was left spotless!”

“Lucinda took good care of our adored dog. She stayed at our house for 2 weeks and left our place spotless and with Cherif in very good form. We would rebook her!”
“Scott was great! So thorough in setting up house sitting with my senior dog. Awesome communication and my house is so clean and well-cared for. Thank you for the tomatoes from your garden as a welcome-home gift! That was so thoughtful!”
“Michael is so awesome!!!! My fiance and I booked a trip for a concert, and didn't realize our hotel did not allow pets unattended and had decibel alarms. He seriously saved the day. I booked VERY last minute (8 hrs prior to sitting, and brand new to rover). Michael responded extremely quick with very clear communication. Brownie points for the bathory shirt for sure. My pup is anxious and hasn't had to stay with a stranger like this and he seemed to do great w Michael. We got plenty of updates, and again super clear communication about our pup! He really did so amazing and we could tell our lil guy was happy after being in his care :) THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!!!!!”

“I booked Helen to stay at my place and cat sit for 4 days. She communicated well, provided consistent updates, and took great care of my cats and my place. I had peace of mind for my trip. Definitely recommend!”

“Can’t say enough about you! Thanks for loving my sweet boy and for keeping me updated throughout my trips with pics. Not just that but you always go the extra mile…changing the sheets & leaving my place spotless. Arriving after a midnight flight to fresh sheets feels so nice.”

“I honestly can’t say enough amazing things about Marie!! We’ve used multiple sitters on Rover before, and she is in a league of her own. She went so far above and beyond—sending tons of photos and videos, keeping our home spotless, and even helping set up a water fountain and troubleshoot our cats’ picky eating habits. It’s clear she genuinely cares. Most importantly, she loved our cats like they were her own, and that meant everything to us. She was truly an angel and we feel incredibly fortunate to have had her. We will absolutely be using her again—she deserves every bit of recognition! Thank you so much Marie!!”

“Erika took great care of my cat while I was away. As always, she spent plenty of quality time with my cat, Mitten, and it was clear how much she enjoys being around her—and my cat LOVES her too! I could tell from all the photos she sent me. One thing I especially appreciate is the detailed daily updates she provides, along with lots of photos. They give me so much peace of mind and allow me to see how Mitten is doing each day. Since I'm away, that's really the only way for me to know how my cat is doing, so I truly appreciate the consistent updates and communication. Thanks again, Erika, for taking such great care of Mitten and my place!”

“Second time having Déy stay with my shy senior cat Norman! I appreciate their patient approach with him and excellent care of my home, as well as being in daily communication with me. Recommended!”

Pet parents share their Rover experiences - Portland
Our dog, Milo, is people/dog reactive due to unfortunate circumstances in his previous home, so the whole “meet-and-greet” process was super stressful for all of us with strangers coming in and out— but Lena was the Chosen One. She came in with the smiles and shining confidence that won over our evil dog. Milo had so much fun with all the treats, playtime and walks that he wasn’t even a little excited to see us when we got home from our first trip without him. Lena took wonderful care of our dog and our home during her visit and sent us a collection of pictures with updates so we felt totally at ease while enjoying our trip. She is reliable, honest, wonderfully intuitive with needs— we definitely plan to book with Lena again in the future and *emphatically* recommend you book with her as well.

Valeriya was amazing with Maks and kept me so well informed while I was away! She sent so many photos and videos and updated me daily on how he was doing which I really appreciated. He's never had a pet sitter other than family but they got along really well. Will definitely book again!!

Michael was great! We had unexpectedly adopted a rescue right before we had tickets to Pickathon and we needed a very last minute sitter for a dog that was very new to us and our home. He was responsive and came right away for a meet and greet. Luna was instantly comfortable with him and we didn't feel any hesitation leaving for a few nights with her in his care. I really appreciated the communication and knowing that he and Luna were settling in great together. We are lucky to have hit a good match with our new pup!

BEE IS THE ABSOLUTE BEST!! My dog Augie has never been better cared for and I’ve never seen him get so attached to someone so quickly. Past that Bee left our house sparkling while taking care of our plants and taking out our bins. Will 100% use Bee anytime we are out of town.

Anna did such a beautiful job with my odd, anxious pups. I travel a lot for work, and it's hard on all of us when I have to take off for multiple days. But she was so communicative, sent tons of videos and photos, asked great questions, played games, and I just know they were in excellent hands. It makes being away from them SO much easier!!

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Portland walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Portland maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Portland choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Portland. On Rover:
- 96% of sitters can help with special care needs
- 98% can help with giving oral medications or injections
- 95% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
