âWilliam has a very calm, patient energy that put our anxious little dog at ease almost immediately. He was very communicative before and throughout the dogsitting stay, and we were so happy knowing that our pet was comfortable snuggling with him at home. Thank you!!â

âChardonay was fantastic and our dog Harley absolutely loved them! We already set up another sit, so we highly recommend working with her. Harley has some specifically reactivity needs, and we felt at ease with Chardonay watching her. She kept us updated and sent lots of dog pics throughout the sit too.â

âWe had a great experience with Kayla! She stayed at our house with Didgie (our kitty) and Chika (our dog), and took wonderful care of them both. She kept us updated with messages and photos, which really gave us peace of mind while we were away. Both pets were happy and well cared for. Weâd definitely recommend her and would be glad to book her again!â

âCeleste was wonderful!! She took care of my pack and Iâm pretty sure they miss her more than they missed me! I will be booking in the future :)â

âShannon was great with our 5-month-old Border Collie puppies for a 3-day house/dog sit. They are a handful, and both dogs and house were in great shape, upon our return. Shannon is punctual and a solid communicator. Highly recommended.â

âMeagan was on time, took great care of our sweet girl and left our home tidy. She is very conscientious about care instructions and did all we asked including medication administration. We would not hesitate to hire again!â

âHollis was fantastic! I was in a crunch after a previous sitter had something come up. Hollis was accommodated Knox by making sure her other dogs werenât in contact with him. Would definitely rebook with her.â

âMaxwell stayed with my huge dog for a week and, as usual, was incredible, reliable, communicative about everything, quick to respond, flexible, understanding, and most importantly, so very wonderful to my dog :) She stayed through a storm and I was able to not worry at all about him. 10/10â

âI honestly canât say enough amazing things about Marie!! Weâve used multiple sitters on Rover before, and she is in a league of her own. She went so far above and beyondâsending tons of photos and videos, keeping our home spotless, and even helping set up a water fountain and troubleshoot our catsâ picky eating habits. Itâs clear she genuinely cares. Most importantly, she loved our cats like they were her own, and that meant everything to us. She was truly an angel and we feel incredibly fortunate to have had her. We will absolutely be using her againâshe deserves every bit of recognition! Thank you so much Marie!!â

âIf could give Olivia a 10 star review, I would. Olivia is the best of the best. We got home and she had made a special GF treat for us, she drew little pictures of our puppies and had some flowers on the counter. I can't say enough amazing things about her. Our dogs absolutely loved her immediately and she really went above and beyond for us and them. We have one special needs puppy and the other one was recovering from an injury. She took it all in stride and went with the flow. And, she text us pictures and updates daily, sometimes multiple times a day. She is the absolutely best person I have ever found for pet sitting and I have hired quite a few people. On top of this, she is also kind. Do yourself a favor and hire her.â

âScott provided excellent care for our two dogs, two chickens, and our home. He provided clear and timely communication. We felt like we left everything in goods hand when we were away. Thank you Scott!â

âAs usual, Elizabeth went above and beyond with our zoo! From cruising nights for the tortoise, to building a hay rack for the bunny and non-stop play time and snuggles with the dogs, we are so grateful for her incredible careâ¤ď¸â

âKirby stayed with our dog and cat for six nights and followed special diet instructions for our dog, which we appreciated. Both pets seemed well cared for when we returned home, and our home was left spotless!â

âDaisy was amazing with Benny we were able to feel at ease our whole vacation and trusted her to the fullest! Puppies are always a handful but she was great with Benny and he was full of joy when we got back we can tell he had a great time with her! Daisy is also extremely experienced and knowledgeable and even gave us some good tips to continue with his training :)â

âLucinda took great care of my three cats during the holidays! One of my cats had a life threatening medical emergency last Christmas, so I was nervous to head out of town, but knew each of my cats and my house were in great hands.â

âDey was a fantastic house sitter, so easy to work with, and took great care of our dog. Not only was Dey super responsive, but I think my house was cleaner than I left it.â

âMichael was fantastic. He was open to meeting on short notice and saved the day when our original sitter fell through. He's a real pro and was so attentive to our pups. We'd absolutely book him again.â

âAshanay was fantastic with Cujo! I came back to a happy pup and a tidy apt. Highly recommend working with her and I already have her booked for another round of housesitting, thank you Ashanay!â

âClark was great! He sent us lots of photos and updates of our Pup and even replaced the batteries in our smoke detector while we were gone! 10/10â

Pet parents share their Rover experiences - Portland
Our cats Azzie & Holmes just adore Michael and Dipti, and I believe itâs because the feelings are mutual. M & D have house sat for us a few times and have provided drop in services on numerous occasions. The cats are always very happy when we come home, relaxed, and well cared for. Our house is always in great condition as well. We feel good knowing we have someone tending to our babies! We highly recommend them to care for your fur babies! đ

Lena picked up a last minute house sitting request. She was easy to communicate with and took special care to support my pup in her post surgery recovery. Lena sent pictures and updates throughout her stay. My pup was happy and well cared for upon my return home and Lena also left the house in great shape. I highly recommend Lena for your pet care needs!

Marie is INCREDIBLE. She took amazing care of our two dogs over a long weekend. She is communicative, patient, and so loving with our pups. She sent plenty of pet updates along with pictures of our girls and we felt so relaxed on our trip knowing our dogs were well cared for the whole time. This was our first time getting a dog sitter and we have one very anxious dog. Marie was so kind and patient with our pup's quirks and she asked lots of thoughtful questions beforehand and was so patient as she earned our dog's trust. Our nervous girl went from barking like crazy on their first night together to snuggling in bed by the end. We could not have asked for a better person to trust with our dogs and are looking forward to our next trip knowing Marie will be there for our dogs <3

Couldn't have asked for better sitters! It was our first time away from our puppy Jasper and Dissaya and Young did a great job. They sent us so many great photos of him having fun and updated us frequently which helped us feel less anxious. They even did some training with him, truly going above and beyond what we expected.
Val is the best!! She provided so much love and care to our dog and home while we were away. Her communication, responsiveness and ability to problem solve made us feel so at ease. We could tell how much she deeply loves her animals. She also went above and beyond and left our home more clean then when we left!! Val is a superstar Rover and would highly recommmed!â¨đđŤ

Kiera is great! Super communicative, always sending picture updates. Itâs such a relief to feel like my pups are in good hands when I have to be away. She handles complex needs like a champ and promptly took my pup to the vet when an issue arose. Thank you for everything!

FAQs for House Sitting - Portland
Frequently asked questions about Rover

Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .
As of July 2026, there are 4,538 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Portland. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.
Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitterâs presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Portland walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your homeâs security or appliances.
Itâs helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Portland maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate theyâll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your petâs profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Portland choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Roverâs commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justiceâs National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Portland. On Rover:
- 96% of sitters can help with special care needs
- 98% can help with giving oral medications or injections
- 95% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
