“We were so lucky to have Cathy! Our dog is a bit nervous about new situations, so we told Cathy that it would take a couple days before she would warm up. Three hours later, Cathy sent us a picture of her cuddled up on the couch. Our pup clearly felt right at home and our vacation was stress-free as a result. Thank you Cathy!”

“Had such a great experience with Grant! He watched my chihuahua for two days and sent me cute videos and photos which I loved. Super easy to communicate with and really flexible. Would definitely hire him again and recommend him to others!”

About: I moved to the South 12 years ago after 16 years in my beloved NYC. First I fell in love with Atlanta and for the last two years I've been in Durham, NC, where I just earned my MFA in Experimental and Documentary Arts. Me and my two pit bull rescues Rolfie and Dita have loved walking in the woods, although we just had to say goodbye to Rolfie in 2026 after a full and joyful doggie life. I grew up with miniature dachsunds, but I really got to know dogs and their cues when I rescued a pit bull from the shelter where I was a volunteer dog walker six years ago. I've cared for older, special-needs dogs and feisty high-energy dogs as well as my own. I respect owners' *and* doggies' boundaries, and I know basic training techniques and operant conditioning training. I can't wait to get to know you and your fur kids. I am working from home right now and am prepared to walk your dog three times a day with a longer walk (up to an hour) in the cooler hours at the end of the day. I feed my dog twice day plus treats with training, but I am happy to feed yours according to your preferred schedule I have a fenced yard and shaded porch for surveying the street. Inside I have loads of dog beds. My dogs are welcome on furniture, but I will respect your rules in that regard.
“Olivia and her husband took great care of our energetic 4 year old dog. Their backyard was great for lots of playtime. They were also very flexible when our flight home was significantly delayed.”

“Sydney is AMAZING! Super accommodating, kind, and I genuinely felt like my babies were in good hands. Communication was amazing and she was very patient with me! Highly recommend!”

“Thank you for taking care of our sweet Finn! We appreciate your willingness to work with a puppy who is still being trained, and giving him all the love and snuggles!”

“So thankful for Haley! My dog is a timid and anxious guy, has a few quirks about him and I can imagine might not be the easiest boarding dog, but I felt very comfortable having him stay with Haley. She sent picture updates and reassured me that he was doing well. Great privacy fenced backyard for playing. Would 100% book again 😀”

“Katrin was AMAZING! My husband and I are so anxious leaving our dogs and katrin put our minds at ease immediately. From the moment we arrived, the dogs were clearly comfortable and in great hands. She shared regular updates and pictures, administered our senior dog’s medication, and went the extra mile in every possible way to make sure our pups felt right at home. We’re so grateful for her animal loving heart!”

“Savannah was so kind and loving to my Maggie. It was very endearing seeing how well she took care of her. And she was so good with updates and pictures. I would highly recommend!! We will definitely use her again! <3”

“So grateful for Giancarlo's excellent care! Our pup does not do well with boarding facilities, but Giancarlo kept him happy and health for over a week. We appreciate Giancarlo's flexibility and frequent updates. We look forward to booking with him again!”

“My pup enjoyed so much his stay with Vanessa, I had the feeling he was sad I took him back home :) I absolutely loved seeing the daily pictures and videos - I knew he was having fun while being well-taken care of. We will be returning.”

“Tracy did an absolutely fantastic job!! Flexible and easy going, asked if there were any special care instructions, and many pictures of a naturally sad looking dog looking so happy and playful!! I highly recommend”

“Tracy was super responsive to my messages when I reached out to her about boarding my dog. We scheduled a meet and greet which was really helpful and she provided updates throughout my dog’s stay. I would definitely book again!”

“Our dog Winnie had the best time on her “vacation” at Emily and William’s house. She had four-legged playmates to run around with and two-legged family members that gave her lots of love and attention. Daily communication and photos confirmed that we needn’t worry about her - she was in excellent hands.”

“Zach was wonderful! Not only was he able to keep my nervous pup who doesn't usually get along with other animals (his elder dog is so calm), but he kept me up to date with her eating and walks and routine. We were in Durham from out of town to tour colleges for part of spring break with our kids and couldn't keep our Riley with us where we were staying. Zach stepped up and saved us from having to leave our dog at home for the whole spring break week. Zach is obviously a experienced dog owner and good guy. Thanks, Zach!”

“Lady had a wonderful time playing at Aubrey's house! Aubrey was available to talk to me and responded quickly whenever I texted her. She even sent me pictures! Thanks so much Aubrey - we will definitely be using her again! :)”

The median cost per night for pet boarding in Durham is $46
Pet parents share their Rover experiences - Durham
Zach is a great guy and I left Finn in capable hands. His dog Logan was very sweet to Finn and overall I think they did well together. I would and hope I can call upon Zach in the future to take care of Finn. Finn seemed to enjoy his time with Zach and Logan and Zach sent photos and updates during my week away. 5 Stars for sure !!

If you want your cat to be cared for and cuddled while you are away, you should sign up with Kim. She really understood my pet's personality and made him feel at home in her space. If your cat needs socialization while you are away, this is a great pet sitter.
I adore Karissa, and I know my cats do, too. From the photos she sends, I can see that they are very comfortable and content. I appreciate that she offers the pick up/drop off service, her communication is outstanding, and she is always punctual. And, she returned them with a little gift of toys! Karissa is always my first choice when I need someone to board my cats. Many thanks!

Allison had a tough job, as one of my dogs is very difficult. She made friends with him right away and took good care of him. I didn't worry for a minuet while I was away. She also gave me great advice for a condition that my pup has. I messed up on some info big time and she was very gracious about it.

A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
While each sitter sets their own vaccine requirements, staying up-to-date on your dog’s vaccines is the best way to be "boarding ready". Vaccinations help create a safe environment for all pets under a sitter’s care.
Many sitters in NC ask that dogs be up to date on core vaccines like the Canine Parvovirus, Canine Distemper, Canine Adenovirus, Bordetella, and Rabies. Cats may be required to have Feline Viral Rhinotracheitis and Rabies up to date.
By discussing your pet's health history early, you’re adding a layer of confidence for you and your sitter before the booking begins.
Emergency support is available by phone or email in English 24/7. When an incident occurs, we recommend that sitters contact our Trust & Safety team immediately so that they can connect your sitter with a board-certified veterinarian or offer other resources to help.
If a sitter needs to cancel at the last minute, Rover’s reservation protection means our team will work with you to find a suitable replacement as quickly as possible.
