“Taylor made me feel so much better about leaving my puppy! She sent a cute photo of her and updated me on how she was doing during her visit. I would love to have her visit again in the future!”

“Paul was excellent. Great communication from start to finish. Was very professional during our meet and greet. He did everything correctly and took care of the cats during the visit. Our cats even came out of hiding to see him. Would definitely reach out to Paul again if I take another trip.”

“Kristen is doing a great job taking care of our cats and guinea pig, always available and gentle with them! We already rebooked her many times! A great help for us when we travel! Definitely we would recommend her!!”

About: I’ve lived with or taken care of dogs since I was young. More than 20 years! We adopted our family dog,Thompson, who was a chow mix, from Animal Control when he was 2-3 years old. He was with us for over 10 years. In the past 6 months, I’ve done house and pet sitting for 2 pit bulls at one home, a a feisty cockapoo at another, as well as stayed with an elderly yellow lab and her feline roommate. I’ve helped with the 2 latter owners several times. I’m semi-retired, and when I have a contract I work from home. Other than spending time and taking care of my cat, Owl, I can be available as my schedule allows. My cat, Owl, is an indoor only cat. I prefer to help out at the owner’s home. Owl is very shy and gets anxious around animals he doesn’t know.

About: I've always had a love for dogs, and I treat every pet with the same patience, kindness, and care I'd want for my own. I have about two years of pet sitting experience, including caring for a rescued Doberman with high anxiety and fear-based behaviors. Through consistency, patience, and lots of positive reinforcement, I earned his trust and watched him become much more confident and less reactive. I also enjoy caring for senior dogs and understand that they often need a slower pace, extra attention, and plenty of affection. I'm experienced in giving oral medications, following detailed feeding schedules, and sticking to each pet's routine to help them feel comfortable and secure. I only care for one client's pets at a time, so your dog will receive my full attention and personalized care. Whether your pet enjoys long walks, playtime, or simply relaxing with a loving companion, I'll make sure they feel safe, happy, and well cared for while you're away. Pet care fits naturally into my routine, and I make sure every pet in my care receives plenty of attention and love. I work full-time Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., so weekends are when I'm most available for boarding and pet sitting. During the week, I'm a great fit for dogs who are house-trained, comfortable being home while I'm at work, and able to hold their bladder until I return. I carefully follow each pet's feeding schedule, medication routine, and care instructions to keep their day as consistent as possible. On weekends, I'm usually home most of the day, giving me plenty of time for walks, playtime, cuddles, and even car rides for dogs who enjoy them. My goal is to make every pet feel safe, comfortable, and right at home while you're away. Your pet's safety and comfort are my top priorities. I have a fully fenced backyard where dogs can safely enjoy time outside to play, explore, or simply relax when the weather is nice. Inside, my home has a spacious living area that's perfect for playtime especially for dogs who get the zoomies! I always follow each owner's care instructions, including feeding schedules, medication, potty breaks, and any special routines. I take the time to get to know every dog's personality so they feel comfortable and secure in my home. When caring for pets in a client's home, I respect both your home and your pet's routine. I make every effort to keep their schedule as consistent as possible so they feel safe, relaxed, and well cared for while you're away.
“I had such a great experience with my pet sitter! They took wonderful care of my cat, Peaches, while I was away. It gave me so much peace of mind knowing he was in such caring and attentive hands. They kept me updated with messages and photos, followed all of his care instructions, and made sure he had plenty of attention and playtime. Peaches looked happy, relaxed, and well cared for when I got home, which says everything.”

“Bell did an amazing job with my cats. I knew from our meet and greet that she would be a wonderful, responsible sitter. My cat was very comfortable with her. She even took care to put out my trash so that my apartment didn’t stink of cat litter. Will definitely use her services again!”

“Kelsey is very friendly, thorough and prompt. Although my cat doesn't come out for sitters, I know that she was well taken care of and respected. I would use Kelsey again!”
“Kim was absolutely amazing with our two senior cats! She followed their feeding routine perfectly, sent the cutest daily pics and updates, and kept us so informed and at ease the whole time. One of our cats warmed up to her right away, and the other one is a certified weirdo with strangers who actually chose to be around her instead of hiding under the bed (for our weirdo, that's basically a five star review). We will definitely be booking Kim again and highly recommend her to anyone who wants their furry babies in wonderful hands.”

“Rachael made our lives so much easier when she watched our pets. She went above and beyond to ensure they were cared for and nurtured while we were away. She provided excellent feedback and communication throughout her time with them. We are very pleased with her services.”

“Kelly was able to accommodate us last minute for a drop in visit for our pup. She was prompt and followed our instructions for our senior boy. We would highly recommend!”

“Katrin was lovely. Super communicative and very understanding of the type of care my senior cat needed. Her updates were always really prompt, clear and included lots of photos. Would love to have her take care of my pet again and recommend y’all do the same!”

“Kristin did a great job with my cat and handled the somewhat complicated instructions for getting into my apartment building perfectly! I appreciated her flexibility in accommodating timing needs as well.”

About: Ever since I was born I’ve always taken care of a furry little friend. From long walks to playtime in the backyard. A fur babies happiness is my happiness. I’m currently working on full-time with weekends and some holidays open. I used to travel frequently and understand last minute needs for the fur babies, I’m happy to accommodate as many as possible. Every dog has different needs (and wants) enrichment is key at my home. Playtime, nap time, or bed time. My dogs have structure and are well behaved.
“Alexis was amazing! She is very trustworthy and followed directions carefully to ensure our pets were taken care and comfortable. Alexis really took the time to bond well with our pets. We will definitely book her again and you should to! She gave us a peace of mind and we were able to enjoy or trip without any worries.”

About: Dogs have been my whole world since I was four years old, and I've been actively caring for them since I was around ten. Now at 25, with over 15 years of hands-on experience, I know what it means to love a pet like family, not just as a pet, but as a real member of your life. I'm a proud fur-parent to Boogie, a rescue pup I adopted at four months old. He's two now, and watching him grow has only deepened how much I care about the life every dog deserves. It's something I think about a lot: our pets are experiencing everything for the very first time, and that's worth honoring. I also volunteer as a temporary foster with Hope Animal Rescue, which means I'm comfortable meeting animals exactly where they are, whether that's a nervous newcomer or a playful goofball who wants all the attention. I take every walk and drop-in seriously, because I know a mid-day break and a kind, familiar face can make a pet's whole day. My schedule is more flexible than it might look on paper. I work full-time in the office four days a week, typically wrapping up between 3:30 and 4, and I'm always happy to stop by before work, after work, or in between my jobs. I also work part-time some weekday evenings and weekends, but my hours shift week to week, so I'd rather just talk through what works for you and go from there. If you need someone reliable who's willing to figure it out, I'm your person. When you invite me into your home, I treat it with the same care and respect I'd want for my own. I'm tidy, mindful of your space, and will always leave things exactly as I found them. Your pet's routine matters too. I'll follow whatever instructions you leave, from feeding schedules to favorite toys to the walks they're used to. For walks, I keep a close eye on leash behavior and surroundings, and I'll never push a pet past their comfort zone. I know some dogs need a slow warm-up and others are ready to go the second the leash comes out, and I'm happy to meet them wherever they are that day. You can also expect regular updates while I'm with your pet. I'm happy to send a photo, a quick message, whatever gives you peace of mind while you're away. I know handing over a key and trusting someone with your animal is a big deal, and I don't take that lightly.
“Blake is a wonderful caretaker! She gets great photos of my cat! She is flexible and reliable, and a great communicator. Makes it easy for me to relax when I am away from my kitty.”

About: I have been caring for a variety of pets for as long as I can remember. Growing up, we always had at least three to four animals in our home, and I’ve had the opportunity to care for many different species, breeds, sizes, and personalities. I currently have two cats of my own, and they are truly my pride and joy. I have also spent the past few years volunteering at an animal shelter in Cincinnati, where I gained experience working with dogs of all backgrounds, personalities, and behavior styles, as well as assisting in the medical clinic. This experience has helped me better understand animal behavior, patience, and the importance of providing compassionate care for every pet’s individual needs. I love getting to know each animal’s personality and will take the time to learn their routines, preferences, and boundaries. Whether your pet enjoys walks, playtime, cuddles, enrichment, or simply having a calm and caring presence nearby, I’m happy to provide care in the way that makes them happiest while giving you peace of mind that they are in great hands. I currently work in a research role that gives me the flexibility to come and go as needed, allowing me to provide reliable and attentive care throughout the day. I’m able to accommodate different routines and schedules to make sure your pet gets the attention, exercise, and companionship they need. Outside of work, I love spending time outdoors — running, biking, hiking, and going on walks — and would love to have your pet(s) join me for some adventures if that’s something they enjoy! At the same time, I’m just as happy spending a quiet afternoon on the couch with pets who prefer a slower pace. Whether your pet is active and loves exploring or is happiest relaxing at home, I’m happy to meet them where they are and provide care that fits their personality and routine. I have a fenced-in backyard available for quick potty breaks and a safe outdoor space when pets are staying with me. I also live close to walking trails and dog parks, giving dogs the opportunity for walks, enrichment, and exercise if that fits their routine and comfort level. I have two cats of my own who are an important part of my family. They have spent a lot of time around dogs through visits to my parents’ home, as well as when I have brought dogs home for day trips and foster stays from my time volunteering at the animal shelter. I understand that every pet has different comfort levels, so I always prioritize slow introductions, supervision, and making sure all animals feel safe and comfortable. When caring for pets in a client’s home, I treat your space with the same respect I would want for my own. I am neat, tidy, and attentive, and I will leave your home exactly as I found it while making sure your pet receives the care, attention, and routine they are used to.
“Amy was so caring with our anxious pets, allowing them to warm up to her at their pace. Knowing she was looking after them while we were gone, we had no worries about their welfare and could enjoy our time away. Would definitely recommend her and hope to book her again the next time we can get away.”

About: A few years ago, I lost both my very senior dogs, which I adopted as puppies from the shelter. As you can imagine, there's a dog-shaped space in my life. I'm not ready to adopt again, but that means your dog has a second home! Other than errands, I’m home all day with your dog. (If they like car rides, they’re welcome to join me for school dropoff and pickup!) My yard is fenced and shady, and there are plenty of sidewalks for adventures around the neighborhood. If your pet needs a crate, please provide it. I almost always have more than one dog at a time, so yours needs to be dog-friendly or at least dog-tolerant. I also have twin 11-year-olds—both great with dogs, but yours should not be kid-reactive.

Katrin did a great job watching our two cats while we were on vacation for a full week. At the meet and greet, the cats liked her right away and she asked great questions. During our trip, she sent cute pics and updates everyday and we came home to a tidy home and happy cats. Would definitely hire Katrin again!

Highly recommend Alexis! She took good care of my two needy kitties. Alexis is very easy to communicate with and responsive to our messages. We had multiple unexpected situations that needed her help: (1) my plants grew slower than expected and we couldn’t send them to our friends’ place so we asked Alexis to take extra care of them and they survived! (2) we had an unexpected large FedEx delivery that Alexis helped us put inside our apartment safely and securely. (3) our returning flight was delayed so we had to tell Alexis last minute to add extra food& water for the kitties and thankfully she checked the message and responded in time and our kittens didn’t need to starve! Very thankful for Alexis’ help so that we can travel without worry :)

Zoe was really great during the entire booking and drop-in process. Very communicative while booking and planning the visit & she let us know exactly when she arrived and left each drop-in. We got great pictures and updates about how the two cats were doing, and when we got home they were clearly well cared for and happy for the attention they got from Zoe while we were gone. Definitely recommend and will book again for our next trip!

Cat sitters on Rover care for your cats’ needs and can spend quality time with them, including activities like feeding, playing, and refreshing their water and litter boxes. Depending on your arrangement, you can schedule as many visits per day as your cat needs or find a sitter who can stay at your house overnight. Some sitters also board cats in their home.

A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your cat, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Durham. On Rover:

You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
