“Jorie was an amazing sitter !! I received detailed updates every day while I was gone and she did a fantastic job following my senior dogs medicine and feeding routine. I will definitely be booking again 😊”

“Chauntrell was great sitting my dog and cat over a week long trip. He sent multiple pictures every day and was very detailed. He even checked on routine and if certain behaviors were expected from the pets. My dog was sad to see him go!”

“Nicole was the absolute best with your boy Chico. He need alot of specialized attention and is reactive with other dogs and she navigated everything like a pro. She left our home spotless and was so respectful while staying. We got so many pictures and updates - it was the first trip I had where I didn’t have anxiety about how Chico was doing. She even trimmed his nails and got him a bandana - can’t say enough great things. Will 1000% book with Nicole again”

“This was my first time booking with Mairead so I was a little nervous, but she quickly put my mind at ease. She took the time to do a meet & greet and made an effort to learn my pup’s routine beforehand. She consistently kept me updated while I was away. I never had to wonder how my pup was doing because she was very proactive with communication. She also went above and beyond with his meals, knowing he doesn’t usually like to eat when I’m away and made great effort to ensure he was comfortable and eating. I also came home to my place exactly as I left it. I highly recommend Mairead to anyone looking for a reliable and caring sitter.”

“Angela was amazing with George and was able to help us out when we came to town for the night. She’s extremely knowledgeable, kind and timely. Can’t recommend her enough!”
“Gabriela was absolutely lovely! She was very communicative with updates, photos and videos to let me know that the kitties were doing well and medication was administered.”

“Allison was amazing. This was my first time leaving my dog with someone other than family, and Allison made me feel so comfortable. My dog seemed to love her, and she left my apartment as clean or cleaner than when I left! I would 100% recommend Allison and will plan to book her again in the future!”

“Jade was outstanding! they provided us with the peace of mind we needed to enjoy our time away. they were both responsive and proactive in communication, which showed they genuinely cared. should we ever need their services again Jade will certainly be out first choice!”

“Kieanji is a great dogsitter! She was very patient with my anxious dog, asked good questions to help him feel comfortable, sent pictures, and was very responsive. Both times she dogsat my dog she arrived on time and tidied up before she left. Would definitely recommend! Kieanji!”

“Faith showed up for every drop in and took my babies for walks. She kept an extra close eye on Neville because he’d just had a tooth extracted and was on a soft diet with pain meds. Faith patiently soaked his kibble and proportioned his wet food to go with it and I’m so grateful for that. She was great with my fur children.”

“Ann-Marie was great! She took very good care of Pepper while we were away and shared frequent updates and photos. Would definitely recommend!”

“Jessica was so communicative, clean and kind!! She has a calm energy that our golden retriever was drawn to immediately. We received lots of updates and pictures while we were away and came home to a very clean apartment. Our dog seemed very satisfied with all the walks and playtime which he needed. Definitely recommend! 😊”

Pet parents share their Rover experiences - Chicago
Zhanna was an absolute lifesaver! This was a last-minute booking and I couldn’t be happier to find Zhanna. I was freaking about my bengal because he can be handful. Zhanna sent tons of the cutest pictures of him playing, napping and purring. 😻😻😻 She gave my baby boy so much love and attention so that I now feel guilty for not spoiling him that much myself 😂. No offense to all the other animal lovers, but Zhanna is officially the only person I trust with my fur baby! P.s! Zhanna, Thank you for the pictures! One of the pictures that you took is now my phone’s screen saver pic

Gabriela was amazing, she took great care of our two cats and managed their complicated medicine routines (asthma inhaler, multiple pills, special foods per cat) with no problems at all! Our cats clearly loved her and felt super comfortable with her, and she sent us lots of cute pics and vids! Would absolutely recommend her to any other pet (and especially cat) parents.

My dogs and I had a really great experience with Hunter. He was able to make availability for me a week out from a four day trip and took great care of my dogs and apartment! Great communication, great demeanor and patience with my anxious and reactive dog, was very willing to do whatever was part of their daily routine, and inspired a lot of confidence in me to trust a stranger in my apartment and with my two buddies for the first time in a meet and greet prior to the trip. I’ll absolutely book again with Hunter the next time my buddies need to hang out with someone for a few days. Thanks Hunter!

This was our second time having Melissa stay over to watch our senior cat, Princess. She requires some medications and is an extremely picky eater, so even though it's only one cat it's not a super simple sit. Princess was happy and unstressed when we got back, she sent plenty of updates and pictures, and our plants were well watered. She also leaves our place very clean. We'll be calling her next time we go out of town!

Nicole is amazing! She watched my 2 dogs in-house for an extended weekend and I felt so comfortable leaving them. They both LOVED her and she took lots of pics for me. I would super duper high recommend Nicole! She also groomed my golden retriever at my house while I was gone and that was beautiful. Best cute my golden's ever had. I can't wait to go out of town again!

Lourdes was amazing! This was our first time using Rover for our 5-month-old puppy, Lucy, and she immediately put us at ease. Lourdes came over the day before to meet Lucy, was incredibly accommodating and attentive, and took such wonderful care of her. We’re so grateful for how great she was with Lucy and she will be our first choice for Lucy in the future. Thank you, Lourdes!
She's a great care taker of your dog or in my case my Son Ghost💙💙. My son enjoys hisself. She took him to the lake and some long walks. Also, my son got his chicken nuggets and went to the bank with her. I will definitely use her again. Amiyah Ghost says he loves you and thank you. He can't wait to see you again🐶🐶🐶🐶

Nichole was so great with Molly while we were away for a week!! She kept us updated every day, sending pics and vids without us having to ask. We really really appreciated her communication and taking such good care of our girl and our home!! Thank you so much Nichole!!

Nadine house sat our 7-year-old pup during a five-day trip and took great care of her! She is great and very affectionate with dogs; my sheepadoodle instantly warmed up to her during our meet and greet. She was very communicative and sent many updates and lovely photos, which really put us at ease while away. I would definitely recommend Nadine!

Frequently asked questions about Rover
The average cost for House Sitting in Chicago on Rover is $55.5 per night (as of August 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.
Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .
As of August 2026, there are 7,791 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Chicago. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.
Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Chicago walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Chicago maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Chicago choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Chicago. On Rover:
- 93% of sitters can help with special care needs

- 96% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
