“Anastasiia went above and beyond to make sure my kitty felt comfortable. He requires meds that can’t be given in a pill pocket and decided he wasn't going to come out from hiding. She really took her time getting him to trust her and they were buddies by the end. She was also super communicative and which I appreciated.”

“Gabriela is great. Sent me pictures, followed all the instructions, very punctual and responsible. I have no complaints and would definitely ask her to take care of Babushka again if I am in need of dog sitter.”

“Angela was amazing with George and was able to help us out when we came to town for the night. She’s extremely knowledgeable, kind and timely. Can’t recommend her enough!”
“Nicole is a SUPERSTAR sitter. You can tell she is a true animal lover. She took such good care of my cat Nora and calmed my anxiety with frequent updates and pictures! I felt so relieved knowing she was at my home with Nora and I could relax on my vacation. I have already booked Nicole again for a future trip, and I highly recommend using her as a sitter for all your pet needs!”

“Allison was great! She was very accommodating and communicative before the stay, and continued to be awesome throughout the stay. She sent pictures and updates throughout the weekend, which I really appreciated. We came home to a super happy pup and a very clean home! I will definitely be using Allison again and can’t recommend her enough! Thank you so much Allison!!”

“Mairead was fantastic! She was so good with my dogs and sent me tons of pictures and updates. My dogs can be a bit anxious the first day with a new person and she handled it perfectly. She was so good about questions if something came up and letting me know how the dogs were doing each day. I never worried that my dogs were in the best hands!”

“Fiona was absolutely amazing! She took such good care of my dog and catered to his needs and schedule. She was very responsive, easy to work with, and left the apartment tidy. Highly recommend!”

“Emily was great! We had never had someone house/pet sit before so were a little nervous, but we felt totally at ease leaving Emily in our home with our pups. She sent daily updates and pics which were very appreciated. Thank you Emily!”

“Nicole was the absolute best with your boy Chico. He need alot of specialized attention and is reactive with other dogs and she navigated everything like a pro. She left our home spotless and was so respectful while staying. We got so many pictures and updates - it was the first trip I had where I didn’t have anxiety about how Chico was doing. She even trimmed his nails and got him a bandana - can’t say enough great things. Will 1000% book with Nicole again”

“Chauntrell was great sitting my dog and cat over a week long trip. He sent multiple pictures every day and was very detailed. He even checked on routine and if certain behaviors were expected from the pets. My dog was sad to see him go!”

“Xena loved her time with Andres. I was regularly updated with pictures and always felt like Xena was well cared for. I came home to a happy pup all thanks to Andres. Highly recommend.”

“Samantha was absolutely wonderful! She stayed overnight at my home with my 5-month-old puppy, Barkley, while I was in California, and she made everything so easy—no stress, no worry. She sent frequent updates and really went above and beyond, especially since Barkley developed some digestive issues right before I left. She took such good care of him, and I came home to a happy, healthy, and very tired puppy who had clearly been well loved and played with. We’ll definitely be hoping she’s available every time we go out of town!”

“Nadine was great with my cats! Super communicative and sent lots of pictures. Everything was clean and kept up with. Will definitely book with her next time I need a sitter!”

“Took amazing care of our dogs while we were away for 10 days! She kept us up to date regularly and took some of the best pictures. She also got them comfortable with short outdoor walks which we plan to keep up now that we’re back. Would highly recommend her for your pet care needs !”

Anastasiia takes such great care of my dog Biscuit! She had to deal with a terrified pup who was scared of the fireworks and took such incredible care of her. She is so communicative and helpful during difficult moments! I absolutely recommend her for watching your pets.

Samantha was great! Rollo is nervous around strangers, and Samantha made time to come and meet him before the reservation to make sure it was a good fit. She watched Rollo for a week and sent updates every day! Rollo had a great time with her. I highly recommend!

Juliet is an amazing person. My pup Kona was so happy to have someone that actually plays with him. Kona is 4 and still loves playing all day. Juliet stayed over night for 4 days and Kona didn’t want her to leave. My house was very clean when I got home. I was very happy to have Juliet sit in my home for Kona. 🤗🐶

I am so glad we found Marisa to watch our 19 year old kitty while we were away for a few days. My cat had never been watched by anyone outside the family, and with his age and medical needs I was nervous about leaving him alone. Upon arriving Marisa sent me a video of him crawling into her lap to cuddle, and I immediately felt so much better! Marisa took excellent care of my boy, made sure he got his medication on time, made sure he was well fed, and provided him with great company. I also really appreciate all the updates Marisa gave us throughout her stay, and that she checked in with us about his separation anxiety. After a long few days of travel we came home to a happy, healthy cat, and a clean apartment. Thank you again, Marisa!

Wamuyu is such a kind, gentle person who cared for our two kitties while we were away. She is very communicative, we had complete peace of mind while on vacation. Even when our kitties were shy or upset about taking their meds, Wamuyu was persistent and patient and always completed their care. We would recommend her highly!

Here’s a warm, natural review you can post: Alex was absolutely wonderful! She stayed in our home while watching our dog and took amazing care of everything. She kept us updated, made us feel completely at ease while we were away, and our dog was happy and well cared for when we got home. She also left our house incredibly clean—it honestly looked just as good (if not better!) than when we left. It was such a relief to come home to a spotless house and a happy pup. We would absolutely book Alex again and highly recommend her to anyone looking for a reliable, thoughtful, and trustworthy sitter!

Emily was amazing!!! We were really nervous because we rarely leave the pets for more than a weekend. Emily sent pictures and updates throughout the day which gave my partner and I peace of mind while we were out of the country. Upon arriving home, my dog greeted us and then ran in the spare room looking for Emily which she has never done for anyone except for us 🥹

Kexin was absolutely wonderful with Waffles! From start to finish, I felt completely at ease knowing Waffles was in such great hands. Kexin was incredibly attentive, kept me updated, and truly treated Waffles like family. Waffles came home happy, healthy, and completely relaxed. I highly recommend Kexin to anyone looking for a trustworthy, caring sitter, and we will definitely be booking again!

Grace took exceptional care of our dog, Coco! She was incredibly kind, patient, and attentive, and it was clear that she genuinely cares about the pets she works with. Coco was comfortable and happy with her, which gave us so much peace of mind. Grace went above and beyond to make sure Coco was well taken care of, and her professionalism and warm personality made the entire experience wonderful. We’re so grateful for her excellent service and will definitely be requesting Grace again. Thank you for treating Coco like family!

Ahriel was communicative, kind, and took great care of my 3 animals on short notice - including a large senior dog and a toothless cat! She asked thorough questions when interviewing her which was reassuring. Since the stay was short notice, she was unable to meet the animals before hand or get a lay of the land (confusing apartment building), but did an incredible job with everything no less. Would recommend her and will hopefully get to use her in the future!

Agata and Calvin were awesome, super accommodating and flexible when we ran into some unexpected surprises before and during our trip. Our dogs Goose and Nala can be a handful on walks, but they still made sure to tire them out every day, even when the weather was kinda crummy. Really appreciated that, and I’m sure Goose and Nala did too! Highly recommend and would definitely book with them again!

FAQs for House Sitting - Chicago
Frequently asked questions about Rover
The average cost for House Sitting in Chicago on Rover is $55.5 per night (as of July 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.
Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .
As of July 2026, there are 7,953 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Chicago. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.
Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Chicago walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Chicago maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Chicago choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Chicago. On Rover:
- 92% of sitters can help with special care needs
- 94% can help with giving oral medications or injections
- 96% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
