“Rachael did an excellent job caring for my cats during our July 4th trip! She was communicative, detail oriented, and thoughtful about their needs throughout. Would definitely recommend working with her.”

“Claudia is amazing! She sent us regular photo updates, which gave us such peace of mind while we were away. Our home was left spotless, and our dog seemed not only well cared for, but truly happy and relaxed, like he was on vacation too! It’s clear that Claudia genuinely loves animals and treats them like her own. We would absolutely trust her again for pet sitting and highly recommend her to anyone looking for a reliable and caring sitter.”

“Paul was wonderful with our two special needs pups and handled an emergency at the house with calm and poise. Our place was also immaculate when we returned. Would most certainly book again.”

I used to have my dog live with me for the past few years, so if need be, my home will always be pet friendly for yours! “I cannot recommend Adriana enough! Our dogs Blue and Bob can be a bit shy around new people, but Adriana won them over immediately with her gentle and caring approach. Throughout the entire stay, we received regular updates, photos, and videos, which put our minds at ease knowing our little guys were in such good hands. Bob and Blue came back to us happy, healthy, and clearly well taken care of. It's obvious that Adriana treated them like her own, and we couldn’t be more grateful!!”

“Michael was AMAZING with our two kittens while we were away. He went above and beyond, continually engaging them in play and being highly sensitive to their personalities. The photos and updates he sent each morning were so enthusiastic and showed how much the kittens were thriving in his care. They're both still adolescents, so Michael wanted to give them space to warm up to him. And they did in no time. Joey likes to be held on his back and get his stomach rubbed and was completely comfortable with Michael doing so. Dee Dee did her usual sprints around the house, bouncing off the walls (literally), which showed how happy she was. I highly recommend inviting Michael into your home to care for your pets. He cared for our kittens like we do. We are so lucky to have had him sit for us while we were out of town. It was such a relief knowing that he was there and that they enjoyed being with him so much. Thank you, Michael. You're one of a kind.”

About: Hi! I’m Lucie and I’m a student studying here at NYU! Being here in New York is so amazing, but it means being away from my two beautiful dogs back at home (I miss you Max and Moby!). My education is very valuable to me, but so is my connection to pets. I’m hoping to connect with other dogs and dog-families while supporting myself through my education. I’ve been house sitting and dog walking for families since I was around 13. Walks included hikes, runs, and scenic routes! I love being able to learn what each dog needs and adapt through time spent with them. My family had many dogs growing up, including fosters, so I have had experience resolving conflicts between different dogs. I think our pets are family, and I hope to make them feel like that when they are with me! I'm currently working part-time, so there is plenty of time in my schedule for pop-in visits, walks, or stays! My days off would include dedicated time to your pets. For home stays and pop-in visits my priority will be to listen and watch for what each pet needs in their own space. My goal is to make them feel comfortable! Similarly for walks, I will let each dog set the pace as they show me what they want to smell or where they want to go.
“Cindy house- and dog-sat for us while we went abroad on vacation for a week, and she was absolutely amazing! Our dog Jameson LOVES her from their walks together and I could tell how happy he was with Cindy there all week. She gave us regular updates on his walks, eating, activities, and energy levels. I can't recommend Cindy enough for taking care of your furry pals!”

“Brianna was such a communicative and attentive dog sitter! Our dog is quite shy and he took to her immediately; she sent regular updates and pictures. She went above and beyond! We usually book house sitters to avoid Fitz having to change his routine—she was so respectful during her time in our home! I actually think it was cleaner than we left it! Thanks so much Brianna”

“Bethany is absolutely wonderful! She gives live updates, is very responsive and my dog totally adores her. Bethany is our go-to sitter and am so grateful to have her in our lives.”

“It was great to have booked Freya again for this occasion and I will not hesitate to book her again. She was so sweet with Olivia and kept us informed the whole time. 100% recommended.”

“Sarah was absolutely perfect… communicative, caring and wonderful with our sometimes nervous pooch. She asked all the right questions in the beginning and I would strongly recommend her without any reservations. We’ll certainly be using her again—she’s truly wonderful.”

“Denise was INCREDIBLE! She was so attentive and loving to my Nash while I was away. She sent photos and updates and went above and beyond in terms of her stay in my apartment. I will definitely be reaching out again for my next trip and highly recommend her to others.”

“Paige was absolutely wonderful with King! She took great care of him, made sure he got plenty of walks and attention, and kept me updated. King can be a strong dog, and it was clear she was confident and comfortable handling him, which gave me a lot of peace of mind. I truly appreciated the love and attention she gave him. I wouldn't hesitate to book with Paige again and highly recommend her to anyone looking for a trustworthy, caring, and capable dog sitter!”

“Anana took wonderful care of my dogs. Communication between us was excellent and my dogs were clearly taken excellent care of while I was away She also left my house in perfect condition. Highly recommend.”

“Mary was a great sitter for our two dogs! She was very receptive to our requests to ensure all of their exercise and affection needs were met. We received regular photos and check-in's, and felt Mary cared for our dogs' wellbeing. We definitely hope to book with Mary again in the future!”

About: Hi, my name is Rae! I grew up with many dogs and trained them since they were puppies: an english labrador, a border collie chow mix, a cocker spaniel, a bernese mountain dog, a golden doodle, and a labradoodle. I also have years of experience volunteering and dog and cat animal shelters. Therefore, I can work with both calm and high- energy furry-friends. With my experience owning dogs for as long as I can remember, I was always willing to walk them around the block or on longer hikes. I'd love to host or house-sit your dog(s) or cat(s), pick up after them, play with them, walk them, and even run with them no matter their breed. For pet-sitting, drop-ins, and walking, I am available on both weekdays and weekends (weekends only for boarding), and I look forward to meeting your amazing best friend! I currently work freelance, so my availability is very flexible. I value exercise in my daily routine, and I find spending time with animals to be therapeutic. Therefore, looking after your furry friend would be the perfect addition to my schedule. Your pet's happiness is a major priority to me. I will always keep my eyes on them, and will hold the leash with both hands. Of course, I will pick up after them, and will walk them for as long as requested.

Pet parents share their Rover experiences - New York City
This was my first time leaving my two senior dogs (Bella, 14 and Gigi, 11) overnight and finding Bella was such a blessing! I felt completely at ease knowing they were with her. My dogs have very different personalities and needs. One is more active, while the other is much slower, has medical conditions and needs medication twice a day. Bella understood both of them and even picked up on little details, like Gigi enjoying being carried outside but not wanting to be picked up indoors lol. Gigi ended up having stomach issues while I was away and Bella handled everything calmly and kept me informed. She was attentive, responsible and incredibly in tune with my girls. It feels good knowing I now have someone I can trust when I need to go out of town and that my dogs will be comfortable and well taken care of. Thank you Bella!!

We had such a great experience with Amanda! She stayed with our dog Copper while we were away for a whole week and took great care of him and our home. She kept us updated every day and was super communicative. We came back to a very happy and well cared for Copper, and our home was just the way we left it, which is more than we can ask for! We are so grateful we were able to find someone that we can trust with him and would absolutely book her again. Highly recommend!

Alex did an amazing job watching my dog, Georgia, while I was out of town for over a week. She was consistently communicative (sent updates twice a day with cute pictures and videos) and even administered ear drops when Georgia’s allergies flared up. Georgia had the best time with Alex and I’d highly recommend Alex to anyone looking for a reliable and trustworthy dog sitter!

Iraklii was wonderful with our new 9 week old puppy! We had to leave town for a family funeral shortly after bringing our dog home and he spent the night with her and took such amazing care of her. He was very patient with her and also shared such sweet photos so we knew she was in good hands for our first night away from her. We would absolutely book him again!

This was the first time I worked with Noa and she was amazing. I loved that she came prepared to the meet and greet with specific questions and wanted to fully understand Greta before committing. I had contracted her to stay at my place for 4 nights. She came I headed out to the airport… then my flight was cancelled and so was my entire trip. She was so understanding in me having to come home when I messaged her at 11pm. Very professional and communicative off the bat. Looking forward to working with her again

Alexandra was a phenomenal Rover partner, I'm so glad we booked her! She asked very thoughtful questions about our dog Remy, sent us many photos and videos during the house-sitting booking, and seemed to truly enjoy taking care of / spending time with our little guy (important!) Timely, kind, and our dog literally fell asleep in her arms when she arrived. Thank you Alexandra!

Frequently asked questions about Rover
The average cost for House Sitting in New York City on Rover is $66.6 per night (as of August 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.
Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .
As of August 2026, there are 19,262 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across New York City. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.
Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred New York City walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in New York City maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in New York City choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
