“Adri was the absolute best! Her care for our pup is unmatched. She was very communicative, sent updates, and also takes the BEST photos. She truly cares and respects not only animals but the home she stays in. I felt our place looked better than we left it. We truly appreciate Adri and cannot recommend her enough.”

“Samantha was wonderful with our cat & dog. She came for a meet and greet before the trip, and sent regular updates and photos while we were away. She was a huge help, and we’ll be hiring her again!”

“Great communication and lots of patience for my pup who is still adjusting to a new home. Follows directions and gives me confidence that my little one is in good hands while I’m away. Will continue to book Rosa in the future. Thanks!”

“Michelle dog sat my pup Ozzie for the night. He was immediately so comfortable with her and not as anxious as usual. She is great and communicated very well. I would highly recommend Michelle.”

“Meaghan was so great! She left my place clean and my cat Louie happy after house sitting for me. She was very responsive to my messages and gave Louie lots of attention and care.”

“Connor is an excellent sitter. He's very thoughtful and attentive to our pets needs (love, attention, walks, sniffs), and our needs (lots of adorable dog pics). He's very respectful and also top notch on the house sitting front as well. We are looking forward to having Connor watch our boys again soon (and I know they feel the same)!”

“Ariel was great with Achilles. Since he’s an older dog his care is a little more specific (pees often and needs to be bottle fed). She handled it all very well and there were no issues during the stay that she didn’t take care of. I would use her again!”

“Abdelkader is an amazing cat and house sitter. He took such great care of our Oliver. His care and attention to detail went beyond expectations. We were a little anxious leaving our dear cat for so long but we knew right away that he was in good hands. We really appreciated all the check ins and photos. Our apartment was clean and neat when we arrived home, which was so appreciated. I can't imagine a better cat and house sitter. We have already re-booked Abdelkader for another stay with Oliver.”

“Siddhi was great! Arrived on time, was very friendly, & followed my pups schedule to a tee. My dog Maui was in very good hands while I was away. I would absolutely rebook Siddhi in the future.”

“Bethany took great care of my dog and sent plenty of videos and pictures so I knew my pup was happy and healthy! Will definitely be asking her to watch my dog again.”

“Anj took wonderful care of Gooby and our apartment during a long weekend. She sent multiple updates throughout the weekend and we could see how comfortable Gooby was with her! Gooby is excited for his next stay with Anj 😁”

“Sadie watched my two cats this past weekend and we had a great experience! She left the apartment clean, followed instructions, sent lots of updates, and my cats loved her and seemed to be super comfortable with her. We will definitely be booking her again!”

“Ashley was absolutely fantastic. She watched our new puppy and older dog with ease and sent lots of great updates to keep everyone comfortable. She went above and beyond with keeping our pups entertained. Definitely recommend her services.”

“This is our second time booking with Sophia and she is so reliable, communicative, and good for our two boys! We love working with her and are always so happy and grateful when she watches our two big dogs.”

“Lauren was amazing with Milo! He just moved to the city and is still pretty nervous to go on walks, but she took extra time to sit with him and make him comfortable before taking him out. She was attentive to Milo’s needs, responsive to my texts, and sent frequent updates and pictures. I would absolutely hire Lauren in a heartbeat to take care of Milo again. Highly recommend!!”

“We had a fantastic experience with Iraklii as our dog sitter over the 4th of July weekend. He stayed in our home and took wonderful care of our two dogs, keeping them happy, calm, and secure while we were away. He sent us regular updates with sweet photos, which gave us real peace of mind throughout our trip. Iraklii was incredibly kind, warm, and gentle with the dogs—and he left our home just as clean as we left it. You can tell he truly cares. We highly recommend him!”

“Jamela was perfect! My dog is quite often a bit standoffish and can have quite an attitude when I leave. Jamela was patient and understanding with him. By day two they were best buds, and that always makes it easier knowing your pet is happy. She sent daily updates on how everything was going, which meant I didn't need to check in much. Also, my apartment was left in great condition - she even put her bedding in the washer. I will definitely book again!”

“Kimora house sat for me and took exceptional care of my cat and home while I was away. She’s highly communicative and thoughtful and will happily book with her again in the future!”

“Alina was an amazing house sitter! She took such great care of our dog, Bogey, and kept us updated the whole time. We came home to a happy pup and a spotless house. Highly recommend her to anyone looking for a trustworthy and caring sitter!”

Jamela was so so awesome!! She watched my corgi last minute for a few days while I was out of town. I got a ton of photos and updates, and my place was left immaculate when we came back home. 10/10 recommend her, very good communicator! Definitely had peace of mind when she was staying at ours and with our pup. Thank you so much Jamela!!!

Alex was a phenomenal cat sitter, and I would book her again in a heartbeat! She was very responsible and gave frequent updates, and my cat really seemed to feel comfortable with her. She was attentive, caring, and respectful - 10/10, even from a very nervous cat parent. :)

Eli was an amazing sitter for our dog, Greg. Greg has some behavioral challenges, so it’s especially important for us to find someone who’s patient, understanding, and experienced—and Eli exceeded all of our expectations. He kept us updated throughout Greg’s stay with thoughtful messages and photos, which gave us so much peace of mind. It was clear that Eli took the time to understand Greg’s needs and handled him with incredible patience and care. We’re so grateful for the excellent care Eli provided, and we wouldn’t hesitate to book with him again.

Shriya was an amazing cat sitter! She stayed at my apartment for about a week and gave detailed updates everyday and sent lots of pictures and videos throughout the day! My cat immediately became comfortable with her. She was also so neat and left the place cleaner than before. Would definitely recommend and rebook!

Fernando is amazing!! I have a large rescue mastiff mix who is a handful and can be reactive so I am always nervous trying to find new people to look after him but Fernando is great with him on walks and for drop in visits. He respects his boundaries and is able to handle any reactivity he has on walks. Recently Fernando watched him when I went away for a few days and I could tell Bubba was tired and happy when I got back. I will continue to make Fernando my go to dog walker and dog sitter in the neighborhood and I am so happy I found him

Nelson has been a godsend for us! He has covered dog walking and dogsat for us over a holiday weekend requested on short notice. We have a very large chowchow who can be quite strong when pulling on her leash during walks handles her very safely and compassionately from what we can tell! He has always been respectful about following her routine and when he dogsat for us over the Fourth of July weekend, he was very considerate and removed and washed our bedding without being asked. He left our house in exactly the same condition as it was left. I would highly recommend him for both dogs-sitting and dog walking.

Frequently asked questions about Rover
The average cost for House Sitting in New York City on Rover is $66.6 per night (as of July 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.
Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .
As of July 2026, there are 19,155 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across New York City. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.
Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred New York City walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in New York City maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in New York City choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.

You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
