“Riouja arrived before time - she was very communicative, sent hourly updates with pictures , took chia to the groomer and back , was loving and kind to our dog. We would not hesitate to hire her again recommend her highly. She’s a dog lover and our dog loved her !”

“Mint was a great sitter. He is extremely communicative and attentive. My dog is a senior Shiba and quite stubborn, Mint was able to manage everything fine despite this is the first time. His past day care experience definitely was helpful dealing with different types of dog personalities and situations. I will definitely be booking with Mint in the future.”

About: For as long as I can remember, I have had a passion for taking care of animals. My 7 years of experience raising my dog and dog-sitting for friends and neighbors, I have gained the necessary discipline and compassion to care for your dog successfully! I started dogsitting when I was a student but now while working in corporate I still like to care for pets when I can. Just let me know ahead of time and I will do my best to accommodate! I will make sure your dog gains my trust and feels safe around me by providing them a quiet home with no other pets. Addtionally, daily play time is incorporated into the day to make sure your dog is able to have fun and let the energy out!
“Kevin was great and a huge help watching Sora for an extended period of time (10+ nights). I returned to a healthy dog and a clean apartment, so happy with the service he provided! Would book again!”
“Adam is a fantastic sitter and walker - would highly recommend! Extremely communicative and responsive, and was very patient with my active dog. Adam took the time to understand my dog’s unique needs and did everything he could to make sure my dog was as happy and comfortable as possible.”

“Amazing sitter!!! Schirn stayed with our elderly fur babies and took incredible care of them and our apartment while we were on vacation. We were in constant communication (but not too much!) before the stay, during, and after we got back home to make sure we settled back in okay. Upon meeting Schirn, you and your pets will immediately be at ease because she is a pro- comforting, reliable, trustworthy and truly goes above and beyond. The daily pictures and updates showed our pets were happy and when we got home we could tell they were very well taken care of. I highly, highly, highly recommend Schirn for picky pet parents!”

“We can't say enough nice things about how thrilled we are with Daniel! Attentive, kind, caring, detail oriented, and clearly an animal person. We are already in talks for our next trip and he will be our first ask to spend our time away with Jolie.”

“Connor was great with our cat and small dog while we were away. Our cat is typically a loner but seemed to have bonded with him while we were gone which is impressive!! We got lots of photos daily and he communicated well. Thanks CK!”

“This was our third time having Kenine watch our dog, Sky, and she’s been amazing every time! She takes great care of Sky and always sends thoughtful updates and photos that give us so much peace of mind while we’re away. We’re so happy to have found someone we trust and are grateful to have her as our regular sitter. Highly recommend!”

“Manny took great care of Charlotte while we were away. She can have separation anxiety but was clearly at ease with him. Manny was responsive to texts, and left our apartment spotless. We look forward to working with him again!”

About: I raised a Pomeranian who lived until 12 years old and passed away last year. His name was Wolph and he truly taught me how to be a loving parent who shows patience, responsibility, and genuine care. I'd love to get active with your pet and give them the attention they deserve. I fostered two dogs in the past year and have dog-sat for friends and family for the last 8 years. I am a part-time student at the moment and doing part-time work remotely. Most of the week I am home besides the occasional groceries and whatnot. I also have a roommate who is also a responsible pet-owner back at home. My apartment space is spacious with a big living room space. The apartment building itself has two levels of security and is very pet-friendly with a bathing station. I have fostered dogs at my current apartment and had no issues.
“Michelle dog sat my pup Ozzie for the night. He was immediately so comfortable with her and not as anxious as usual. She is great and communicated very well. I would highly recommend Michelle.”

“After using several sitters on Rover before, Albert has by far been the best. He was clear in his communication and followed up. Albert came for a meet and greet. Albert listened to our instructions on how to approach him. After an initial few minutes, my dog put his paw out to play with him. Albert had a list of questions ready to ask and showed genuine interest and safety in my dogs routine. During our week long stay out of town, Albert set many updates (including videos and pics). I was very assured my dog was well taken care of and loved. I received a pic of them cuddling on the couch. Albert didn’t reach out with a thousand questions while we weee away, instead he constantly assured us to enjoy our vacation. When we returned, the house was immaculate order and I could tell my dog was happy and well taken care of. We’ll definitely be booking Albert again.”

“Karina was a fantastic sitter!! She was very communicative, extremely respectful of our home, and sent lots of pictures of our Lucy while we were out of town. I would ask Karina to watch Lucy again in a heartbeat - she will be my go-to sitter every time we have a trip planned.”

“Sandy was outstanding, she went above and beyond for my little cat. This was my first time taking a trip since I got him, and Sandy gave him all his favorite comforts. When I got home he was perfectly relaxed as if I never left.”

“Stephanie is a fantastic pet sitter! My dog is always a brat to new house sitters and Stephanie was so patient with her. They ended up best friends by day 2!! Would recommend Stephanie to anyone :)”

“Brittany is amazing! Extremely communicative and responsible! She treats Blanc like her own ! I have utilized Brittany for daily walks and house sitting!”

“Sadie did amazing with both cats, but especially with my older gent who needs 3 meds per day (oral, topical, inhaler) and has a complicated feeding schedule. Usually both cats are starved for attention when I get back (or so they say…) but they both were so chill when I got back — it’s clear they’d gotten lots of love while I was away 🩷”

“Caroline is soft spoken, gentle and calm demeanor. My pack responds very well to a person like Caroline. When we got home. Our dogs greeted us at the door but were very calm. Caroline sent me a picture to confirm all was well. She was also very responsive to my texts to her. She is lovely. Asked questions and brought a notebook to take notes at our meet & greet. I highly recommend Caroline. She is loving and nurturing. My pack was very comfortable with her.”

Lucie did a great job sitting for my dog, Frankie. Frankie can be slow to warm up to new people in her space and Lucie was patient and welcoming to Frankie, helping her get settled in while I was away. Lucie kept me updated during the stay. Will definitely book again. Thanks!

Jess was incredibly responsive and kind to my somewhat-special-needs bulldog Ziggy. She checked in regularly with photos, which was a huge difference-maker, and communicated clearly when he had skin issues or when there was a small misunderstanding with the building manager. She stayed late to make sure Ziggy was taken care of when I was heading home, and she left the apartment immaculately clean. Will definitely rebook her!

Sophie was AMAZING!!! We have had several dog sitters and she was easily one of the best! She took such sweet care of our two big dogs and sent so many photos each day! She was very intentional with each of their needs, taking our crazy aussie to the dog park to play daily and giving all the cuddles to our emotional golden retriever! We had so much peace of mind with having her there caring for them. If you need someone, she is your girl!

Highly recommend Julija!! She spent the week in my apartment and left it immaculate. I had zero concerns that she would take great care of my 4 month old kitten, Binx! She sent me tons of photos and texts during the visit, which really put me at ease since it was my first time leaving Binx for so long. It’s clear that Julija really cares and I would absolutely recommend her for anyone. Expect lots of cuddles and playtime for your pets with Julija - she took such good care of my fur baby!!

Emily was amazing! I was away at a wedding and could completely focus on that because I felt totally at ease that my baby was in good hands. She’s super communicative and my cat was comfortable with her right from the start. Will definitely be reaching out to Emil again in the future! Thank you again Emily!

Kate was amazing!! She did a great job with my cat, who is very shy. Kate is super sweet and was very flexible and understanding about a canceled flight. She is very responsive and quick at responding to messages. We will definitely be using her again for future travel plans :)

Jill was WONDERFUL while sitting our pups again - our pups can be very particular and sometimes difficult and she understands their quirks, personalities and needs so well already. She always communicates well and with good humor and we love getting her pics and updates. We also had a small apt emergency and she managed it worry understanding and patience. She’s so great!

Frequently asked questions about Rover

As of September 2026, there are 19,271 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Long Island City. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.
Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Long Island City walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Long Island City maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Long Island City choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.

You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
