“Olivia took such great care of our dogs and cats while we were away! She was very communicative and sent adorable photos which put us at ease while we were out of town. Thank you!!”
“Jebraune was great! Our dog immediately took to her and she clearly has a way with dogs. She took great care of our corgi. She also went above and beyond taking him to the park for fetch, brushing him, and we could tell he’s already missing her. She also left our apartment better than she found it and we really appreciated the care she took not only of our dog but of our home.”

“Michelle dog sat my pup Ozzie for the night. He was immediately so comfortable with her and not as anxious as usual. She is great and communicated very well. I would highly recommend Michelle.”

“Abdelkader is an amazing cat and house sitter. He took such great care of our Oliver. His care and attention to detail went beyond expectations. We were a little anxious leaving our dear cat for so long but we knew right away that he was in good hands. We really appreciated all the check ins and photos. Our apartment was clean and neat when we arrived home, which was so appreciated. I can't imagine a better cat and house sitter. We have already re-booked Abdelkader for another stay with Oliver.”

“He is so communicative and send videos! He was shy with Willow at first, and still working on their “relationship” but he really gave all of his effort into Willow! I am so thankful that Willow was able to have Adolfo. Thank you Adolfo for your patience and care for Willow, I know she can be difficult but you did great! Thank you!”

“Monique stayed with my Shih Tzu Misty while I was on a business trip. Misty was well cared for! Monique shared updates each day and photos. Also left my apartment in immaculate condition! Highly recommend!”

“I was in NYC for a couple days and needed a dog sitter at the hotel, Caroline was on time, took Daisy out for walk, played with her and gave her lots of cuddles. Will use her again next time I am in the area.”

“Annie was great! She sent us pictures everyday that helped us know Heinz was being taken care of, and always made us happy since we missed him while we were away. Heinz is a very nervous dog and takes awhile to warm up to people, but after about a day, he was asking Annie for belly rubs, a sign he fully trusts someone. We would be very lucky to have Annie watch Heinz again.”

“DP was an absolute savior for us for a week long trip out of the country. Not only is he incredibly sweet and kind, and our dog clearly loved him from the second he walked in, but he is also professional and respectful (even laundered all our bedding/towels before we returned - which was such an amazing surprise). The apartment was more spotless when we returned than when we left!! He sent us the perfect amount of pictures/updates while we were gone, and I was actually able to relax because I knew our dog was in great hands. I could not recommend him more and would hire him back in a second!!!! THANK YOU DP!! (Lucy says thank you too!! 🥹)”

“Zuleyka was amazing! Spontaneous, very communicative and she handled the pups so so well! Thank you for taking such good care of them! I would recommend her to anyone looking for a responsible dogsitter :)”

“Absolutely awesome! Great communication and was very understanding with my dog that has some unique quirks. I came back to an apartment that was as clean or better than I left it after Emily has watched Benji overnight for 6 days. 10/10 would recommend Emily!”

“Scooby had such a great time with Chelsea. He felt comfortable with her right away, and they played so much together. It was really reassuring to see how relaxed and happy he was with her. You can tell she genuinely cares and is great with dogs - will absolutely book with her again.”

“Razan has watched Poe twice now and has been wonderful both times! She is very friendly, patient, and sweet with him as he warms up to her. She sends great photo updates during the stay which I really appreciate! She is also comfortable giving Poe his medication, feeding him, and taking him on walks. Very reliable and flexible. I will definitely book Razan again!”

“Meaghan was so great! She left my place clean and my cat Louie happy after house sitting for me. She was very responsive to my messages and gave Louie lots of attention and care.”

“Deisi is wonderful. She’s watched my pups 2+ times now. She’s very patient and thoughtful and my dogs love snuggling her and playing with her dog! Leaving my dogs with her always puts me at ease 🫶”

“Bryant was excellent with my senior dog. He was incredibly experienced in terms of my dog’s specific needs, including diaper changes and being mindful of her dementia traits. He was also very communicative and offered multiple updates throughout the day.”

“Siddhi was great! Arrived on time, was very friendly, & followed my pups schedule to a tee. My dog Maui was in very good hands while I was away. I would absolutely rebook Siddhi in the future.”

Annie was great! She sent us pictures everyday that helped us know Heinz was being taken care of, and always made us happy since we missed him while we were away. Summer was TRULY phenomenal. Our pups loved her from the start, and my wife and I were close behind! Summer was so professional, communicative, punctual, and thorough when taking care of our pups AND our apartment. We will EASILY be using Summer in the future. No notes. She was exceptional.

Cammie was amazing. She came to meet my pup in advance and took great care of her. Normally Tilly is stressed when I leave but she was completely at ease when I got back and my apartment was probably tidier when I got back than when I left! Recommend Cammie 100%.

I have an very elderly dog who has a few medications to manage and an appetite that comes and goes. MintZhet was excellent about not only taking care of my pup but keeping me updated and informed of how he was doing on a regular basis. It can be stressful to leave an aging dog with a new sitter, but I will definitely be asking MintZhet back to take care of my boy.

Shriya was an amazing cat sitter! She stayed at my apartment for about a week and gave detailed updates everyday and sent lots of pictures and videos throughout the day! My cat immediately became comfortable with her. She was also so neat and left the place cleaner than before. Would definitely recommend and rebook!

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Manhattan walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Manhattan maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Manhattan choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Manhattan. On Rover:
- 89% of sitters can help with special care needs
- 93% can help with giving oral medications or injections
- 97% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
