“Mo was wonderful! We were nervous to leave our senior rescue dog behind for a trip because he has some physical handicaps and emotional quirks, but Mo was reassuring, communicative, and we got him back better than when we left him. Will not hesitate to book Mo again!”

“I cannot speak more highly of Vivian for watching our dog Duke over a long weekend. It was our first time leaving him alone and he’s a challenging dog in terms of being very needy and having separation anxiety but Vivian made sure to give him so much love, play time and walks that he soon settled with her with zero issues! Knowing how anxious I was leaving him, she was so good to give me three big updates a day including photos and videos of their day together which put my mind at ease instantly! Would absolutely hire Vivian again next time we need to go somewhere without duke! ❤️”

“Michelle was fantastic with our sweet/complicated rescue. She gave her a puzzle toy to keep her occupied and Patti even hung out in the same room instead of hiding which is a first for a new person!”

“Ashley was absolutely fantastic. She watched our new puppy and older dog with ease and sent lots of great updates to keep everyone comfortable. She went above and beyond with keeping our pups entertained. Definitely recommend her services.”

“My elderly temperamental dog loved her time with Adeib. She immediately took to him, something that rarely happens. He kept me regularly up to date and I think the two of them had a great time. Would definitely book with Adeib again.”

“Desiree was wonderful with Scooby! He clearly loved spending time with her, and they seemed to have a great time together. She was great with communication, kept me updated, and was very caring and attentive. Would absolutely book with her again!”

“Adolfo was absolutely fantastic with Archie and Raven! From the moment I met him, I could tell he genuinely cared about their well-being. Throughout their stay, he kept me updated with adorable photos and little anecdotes about their antics. It was clear they were not just pets to him, but part of his extended furry family. I felt completely at ease knowing they were in his capable hands.”

“Michelle was wonderful with my playful and persnickety pug! She was attentive and caring and made sure he was beyond comfortable while I was away for an extended weekend. She went above and beyond during a blizzard and internet/elevator outage - carrying him downstairs and across streets so he wouldn’t get his feet too dirty. She handled giving him his daily pill and left my apartment spotless!”

“Alexis was a great house-sitter and super communicative. Our dog is 80 pounds and she had no issues with him at all. She sent us lots of photos and they got along great. We will absolutely be booking with her again any time we go out of town, we could not recommend her highly enough!”

“Martine was cordial, communicative, and competent. She respected our space and kept our apartment so tidy while taking care of our dog. Martine sent us updates and pictures and our dog absolutely loved her. We will be booking with Martine again!”

“We're so grateful to have had Erin stay with Avery while we were home for Thanksgiving. She provided regular updates and lots of pictures and I know that Avery got lots of cuddles & love while we were gone. We'd love to have her stay again!”

“Jen was a fantastic sitter! She was prompt and on time. She asked all sorts of great questions before we left her with our fur baby. She also sent us numerous updates and photos and put our minds at ease while we were away. 10/10 would recommend her!”

“Dahili is absolutely fantastic. She has stayed with my dog twice. My dog is a rescue and she can be very scared of new people and takes quite a while to even allow someone to be near her in my absence. Dahlili was so gentle, patient and handled here with great expertise, respecting her space and giving her time to warm up on her own terms. By the time I returned, my dog was having a great time with Dahili and my dog is probably more comfortable and loving towards Dahili now (and trusting) that any other adult. I cannot recommend her highly enough. She stayed in my home and she was perfect with everything, very communicative and thoughtful in every way.”

“As always, Jack is so patient with my babies and with me and the 1000 How to Rules I create for my babies to live. I also appreciate how he makes sure he knows everything, asks about everything. This time our baby needed special care because of a back injury and he was careful to follow all recommendations. When Jack has availability, we’ll always book him.”

“Joseph was super sweet, my girls who have the most separation anxiety from me were so well cared for, they were a little skeptical at first, debut shortly after, the pictures spoke for themselves…my girls were cuddled up in his lap, and happy as can be! He also sat on 4th of July and my girls were not a fan of fireworks, and he was so kind and caring, ensuring that they were comforted and cared for! We’ll definitely have Joseph watch my girls again soon!!!”

“Thank you for taking such great care of Bruce (again)! It is clear that you are kind and attentive and Bruce loves being around you considering how excited he was to see you again when you arrived! Lots of good updates while I was gone. You’re the best!”

“Vivian stayed in my apartment for an overnight with my two cats. She's kind and communicative. I came home to happy cats and a clean apartment, as a bonus. Thank you, Vivian! Highly recommend and would love to work with her again!”

“This was our 2nd time booking with Mirian and she took excellent care of our pup and apt. She was with our dog for 7 days, was punctual, communicative, and followed instructions exactly for feeding and walking. We’re so happy we found Mirian!”

Pet parents share their Rover experiences - Manhattan
Robin has been an amazaaaazing cat sitter! She took wonderful care of our cat, Everest, during a 15-day house-sitting stay and really adjusted to her needs and personality. She gave her lots of attention, petted and brushed her, played with her, and made sure she was happy and comfortable at all times. She also sent us pictures and updates every single day, which we really appreciated. We felt completely at ease knowing Everest was in such good hands. We couldn’t have asked for a better cat sitter and would absolutely recommend Robin! 100% commited and reliable.

Ashley was so communicative and took care of our pups with a great deal of care. They have a couple of quirks and she followed our instructions to the letter! She sent great updates and photos, and when we got home our apartment was spotless. I can't recommend her enough!

Iliana did a wonderful job taking care of my cat Luna while I was away. She sent me pictures, kept my apartment in good shape, followed care instructions, and communicated in a friendly way. I’d highly recommend her as a sitter so you can be away while having peace of mind.

Genesis was an amazing dog sitter for our 2 year old Goldendoodle. Kaiya has a ton of energy so we need her to go on multiple walks a day or to the park. Genesis sent tons of pictures on their walks and hilarious ones at night with Kaiya completely exhausted snuggled up by her. She also went above and beyond cleaning the guest sheets she used!! It’s was the added stress of cleaning everything completely taken off my shoulders. It’s been tough finding great dog sitters in the city but will definitely be booking her again.

Fantastic, as always! Dahili takes such excellent care of my dog...I think my dog is sad to see her go and me to return :) And my dog does not bond quickly with new people! Dahili takes her on regular, good long walks, pays attention and affection and is very communicative sending photos and videos while I am away. I cannot recommend her highly enough! Thank you so much, Dahili!

Iris is wonderful - reliable, trustworthy, and a great communicator. She followed all instructions to a tee. She was able to bond with my pets immediately, even my pup who gets nervous when I travel. She left our home clean and orderly... I can barely tell she was here. I look forward to having Iris back!

Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .
As of August 2026, there are 19,281 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Manhattan. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.
Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Manhattan walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Manhattan maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Manhattan choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Manhattan. On Rover:
- 89% of sitters can help with special care needs
- 93% can help with giving oral medications or injections
- 97% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
