“Caroline is absolutely amazing, and our two big senior babies loved her. We have one exuberant dog and one very shy dog and both took to her immediately. There’s nothing like traveling and having the peace of mind that comes from having someone reliable, professional, & trustworthy like Caroline to take care of your babies and stay in your home. During our 5 day trip she sent lots of photos and updates each day. She ensured both dogs got the attention they needed and really understood the needs of our shy girl. She kept them on their walk and feeding schedule which was so appreciated. She was also wonderful to have in our home. Our home felt even cleaner than how we left it. Thank you again so much Caroline, the babies can’t wait for us to go on another trip so then can hang out with you!”

“Anastasiia sets the bar high in her pet care! She did an excellent job communicating with me regularly, sending pics and updates, and showing up on time to meet me for key pickup and drop-off. I was very impressed with the way she cleaned my home and cared for my pets. I will definitely hire her again! She is also a sweet and kind person, which is a huge plus. Highly recommend!”

“Ruojia was a life-saver for me when my dog was going through a health issue, and she stayed with her for the day while I was at work for a last-minute booking. She was incredibly responsive, kind, and understanding and it was a huge relief to know my pup was in good hands. I wouldn’t hesitate to book with her again!”

“Razan was a great help when we needed to book a sitter pretty last minute. She came over for a meet and greet and was really thorough in her questioning and communication as it related to Hugo. While Hugo was in her care I felt very in the know of how things were going and knew he was safe! She kept our space very clean and was a great guest and sitter to have.”

“Our pets love CK! He gave them lots of attention and communicated well with us during our overseas trip. We found our home to be in excellent condition upon our return. We will definitely reach out to CK in the future.”

“Becka has watched our dog twice now and both times has been so good updating us and willing to stay as long as we need! Definitely recommend and we will be using her for awhile :)”

“Lenin is very professional, followed instructions to a tee, and let us enjoy our vacation in peace knowing our animals were being loved and cared for. Would definitely recommend and will be using again.”

“Michelle was fantastic with our sweet/complicated rescue. She gave her a puzzle toy to keep her occupied and Patti even hung out in the same room instead of hiding which is a first for a new person!”

“MintZhet did a wonderful job for us when our regular sitter was out of town. Kind, professional, communicative. Very glad to have met you, MintZhet! Thanks again.”

“Desiree was absolutely wonderful with my young kitten! I got updates and felt reassured the entire time I was gone. I would love to have Desiree house sit again and highly recommend.”

“Loved having Miguel over to dog-sit Missy. Very clear and prompt communication, punctual, frequent updates during the day, and a genuine interest in understanding Missy's routine and keeping her on it as if we were home ourselves. Open and friendly, it was easy to trust him at our home. Missy is not yet accustomed to being alone, and Miguel was very understanding when we explained. He even came prepared with food for the day so that he wouldn't have to leave her to step out! Would definitely book with Miguel again!”

“Barbara was very sweet and attentive to Dapper. She gave me daily updates and was easy to communicate with throughout the entire booking process and stay. Would definitely book her again and recommend other pet owners to do the same!”

“Schirn did a wonderful job watching my puppy while I was overseas on vacation. She sent updates and photos every day, and kept her occupied with lots of activity and play. I will (hopefully) work with her again the next time we take a vacation. Thank you!!”

“My elderly temperamental dog loved her time with Adeib. She immediately took to him, something that rarely happens. He kept me regularly up to date and I think the two of them had a great time. Would definitely book with Adeib again.”

“Abdelkader was excellent! He was communicative and followed all the directives that I left for him. To be honest, I don’t plan on using anyone else for my cat sitting services if I can avoid it. He’s just that good! I look forward to booking his services again!”

“Jenny is great with puppy! She made my pup feels safe and able to follow her sleeping schedule which I’d important for puppy. Will definitely work with her again.”

I can't recommend Julia enough! I always struggle leaving my cat Oliver and he can get sad and anxious when I'm away, but I came home this weekend to find him as peaceful and happy as could be, which doesn't always happen. It's such a relief to have someone who's genuinely loving and attentive with him, and who gets to see just how special he is. Thank you so much again Julia! ❤️

I couldn't be happier with the care Danielle provided for my dog, Garth. Since he's older, new to me, and still working through some anxiety, I felt much more comfortable having him stay at home. Danielle was incredible from the start. She took her time getting to know him and carefully followed all of my instructions. On the first day, Garth was understandably anxious, but she kept in constant communication with me and did everything possible to keep him calm and reassured. When I came back home, he was completely relaxed and everything was in great shape. I will definitely be reaching out to her again the next time I need a sitter.

Zoey was absolutely wonderful! She was punctual, reliable, and kept me updated throughout the day, which gave me so much peace of mind. She followed everything I asked and took such great care of Louie. Most importantly, Louie absolutely loved her! 🐶❤️ I would definitely recommend Zoey and would happily have her watch Louie again!

Yin was wonderful! She was incredibly kind, easygoing, and a pleasure to work with. She not only took excellent care of my cat, Greta, but also formed a real attachment to her. I received daily photos, videos, and updates, and knowing how loving and attentive Yin was with Greta gave me the reassurance I needed to truly relax and enjoy my long overseas trip. I came home to a very happy cat! I would absolutely invite Yin to care for Greta again and highly recommend her.

Ashley is the best! So reliable and trustworthy. We feel totally comfortable having her stay at our apt to watch our cat. She kept us updated with routine texts and photos while we were away. She was also very understanding when we had to change our booking last minute due to our dog passing away, which we can’t thank her enough for. Thank you, Ashley!

Ruojia was a life-saver for me when my dog was going through a health issue, and she stayed with her for the day while I was at work for a last-minute booking. She was incredibly responsive, kind, and understanding and it was a huge relief to know my pup was in good hands. I wouldn’t hesitate to book with her again!

Mark was absolutely fantastic with our 6 month old puppy Fig! So much so that we tried to book him again before our first booking was over! He was attentive to her, taking her out frequently as we’re working on potty training, and even teaching her new tricks! He sent videos and pictures and provided updates. He was also very prompt with timing which we appreciated. He is such a kind and caring person- one we trust in our home and with our furbaby anytime. Doesn’t get better than Mark!

Karlton watched our 2 1/2 year old Havanese, Huey, today for the first time and we couldn't be happier with how it went ... Karlton has such a gentle demeanor and Huey felt very comfortable being with him for the day. They went for a nice walk in Central Park and Karlton made sure that Huey did his business and ate his food. I highly recommend Karlton as a dog sitter.

Isabelle did a wonderful job watching Chestnut and Walnut. She was super responsive and provided regular updates and photos. She also went above and beyond handling mischievous cat issues like knocked-over objects or torn plants, and made one bonus visit to check on the cats right before my trip was done. Would highly recommend — thanks so much Isabelle!

You know when you leave your dog for the weekend and she smells BETTER when you pick her up?! My dog so clearly had a great time with Mary (and her pup Graham!). Mary kept me updated throughout with such great photos, was communicative when needed, and is clearly just so great with dogs. My dog is… big and easily excited, so I worry about walkers/sitters keeping everyone safe on walks and dealing with the pulling. Mary had no issue with this, mostly because I think she’s such a calming and confident presence for my pup. Thanks Mary!!

Frequently asked questions about Rover
The average cost for House Sitting in Astoria on Rover is $60.58 per night (as of September 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.
Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .
As of September 2026, there are 19,362 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Astoria. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.
Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Astoria walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Astoria maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Astoria choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Astoria. On Rover:
- 89% of sitters can help with special care needs
- 93% can help with giving oral medications or injections
- 97% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
