“Brianna is meticulous and well organized. Before the stay, she asked all the important questions so she didn't need to ask anything while we were away. She sent so many good pet photos and spoiled our beans and left the house nicer than it was when we left. She even saved our dying house plants.”

“Michelle was fantastic with our sweet/complicated rescue. She gave her a puzzle toy to keep her occupied and Patti even hung out in the same room instead of hiding which is a first for a new person!”

“Emoni did a great job watching our dog for the day! She communicated well before and during the house sitting, followed our walking and meal directions, and took good care of our home. I’d definitely recommend her for caring for your pet!”

“Ashley was absolutely fantastic. She watched our new puppy and older dog with ease and sent lots of great updates to keep everyone comfortable. She went above and beyond with keeping our pups entertained. Definitely recommend her services.”

About: I have experience with dogs ranging in size as well as cats and reptiles. Your multi-pet and mixed pet homes are no problem for me! My schedule is flexible and I’m looking forward to playtime with your fur babies! I am a musician new to Harlem and NYC, so while I’m getting my footing my routine is quite flexible and able to be worked around pet care. I currently have 2 cats that I completely adore. My care routine for them includes feeding, cleaning the litter, changing the water, and giving them enrichment.

“Lenin did a wonderful job pet sitting our dog. We have a large dog who is shy and Lenin did an amazing job with him. He is professional and responsible with great communication. He took excellent care of our dog and home.”

“I could not be happier with Sara! This was my first time having a non-family member watch my dog while I was out of town and I was so nervous about it. I looked at a lot of options before deciding on Sara and am so glad I did - Sara stayed at my place and with Sasha for two weeks. She took such wonderful careful of Sasha and sent me multiple pictures and updates every day. Sasha clearly loved her and Sara treated her like her own, making me feel so at ease and letting me enjoy my vacation without worrying about her. On top of that, she left my apartment just as clean as I left it. I will definitely be using Sara in the future and am so relieved to have found someone I can trust! Could not recommend Sara more.”

“Kevin took great care of our house and pups! He took them on plenty of walks and left our house tidy and clean. We got plenty of updates while we were gone and loads of pictures. We will absolutely be rebooking with him in the future!!”

“Jason is absolutely fantastic! So amazing with my animals and so communicative! We are looking forward to having Jason sit for us again in July for a longer trip, we know our fur babies are in good hands!”

About: Dog owners will be especially satisfied with the services I provide because I have skillfully and diligently learned how to understand and absolutely adore dogs. My experience comes from years freelance dog walking (and when I could I'd sit) for neighbors and teachers I went to high school with. I was taught by my teachers even outside of school about dogs and how to be a dog person. They even helped me with training my own. I have owed and cared for American Pit Bulls(owned), Chow Chows, Yorkshire Terriers, Shih Tzuz, Maltese Pups(Owned), Golden Retrievers and Bolognoses. My pet care services include Walking, (which I love most in this season when physical play is at its high for me.) Drop ins, Training and Grooming(for an additional fee). I have took Dog Obidience Classes at Petco in the Bronx NY 2012 and 2015 which was recommend by one of my clients I worked with back in 2012. I watch tons of educational videos about the psychology of dogs on my free time and I am actively always searching for ways to enhance my skills in dealing with dogs and cats alike. I am very responsible and have worked with many high profile professionals who have have been in need of a reliable person to act as an assistant. (Via TaskRabbit) From first meeting my clients, they will naturally sense my honest and loyal personality. (Just like a puppy :) - you pups best friend

My dog loved her will definitely look to book again with Prachi she was reliable and caring!”

“Razan was a great help when we needed to book a sitter pretty last minute. She came over for a meet and greet and was really thorough in her questioning and communication as it related to Hugo. While Hugo was in her care I felt very in the know of how things were going and knew he was safe! She kept our space very clean and was a great guest and sitter to have.”

“Genesis was amazing!! She kept me up to date with cute pictures and took such good care of my dog, giving her so much love and attention! I can’t recommend her enough!!”

Laine was an amazing dog sitter for my Bruno. She went above and beyond to make sure he was comfortable and happy. She sent me multiple updates throughout the day and plenty of pictures. I was able to enjoy my time away from my home knowing my dog was in such good and caring hands. I will definitely be rebooking with Laine!

Clay is amazing! I recently adopted a second cat, and their introduction is not going as smoothly as I expected. Since my 2 cats are not on good terms, I was worried about leaving, but Clay made everything easier. He sent me pictures every day, gave me updates about my kitties, and handled everything with kindness and patience. I would definitely recommend him!

Dayshalis was wonderful with our cats, and a great comfort to know they were in good hands while we were out of town. This was our first time using Rover, so I was a little nervous at first, but Dayshalis made me feel very comfortable right away with how responsive, kind, thoughtful, and respectful she was. She was curious about both our cats, learning their personalities and how to best engage them and give them each what they needed. Dayshalis sent us many photos while we were gone, which were really appreciated, and I could see in the photos that the cats were not only at ease and calm, but enjoying themselves and the interactions they were having with Dayshalis. When we got home, the cats weren’t at all upset that we had been gone, as they sometimes have been with other cat sitters. We really appreciate the care Dayshalis took, and highly recommend her as an excellent pet sitter. Thanks Dayshalis!

Grace was my life savor. Literally 24 hours before an unexpected work trip. I urgently reached out to Grace and she was so lovely understanding and welcoming to watch Java for four days. She was easy to communicate with great with updates while I was away and Java had the best time. I would 100% recommend and I plan on using her in the future. Thank you again, Grace for all the help!! :)

Marine was an absolutely amazing dog sitter for my pup, Hunk! She kept me updated with constant pictures and messages and followed his routine perfectly. Hunk was so happy and in great spirits when I got home, which gave me so much peace of mind while I was away. I couldn’t have asked for a better sitter. 10/10 — I highly recommend Marine! 🐾
Reese is an exceptional sitter - we feel lucky to have found her in a last minute situation. She was wonderful with both our dogs, a very independent thinking Shiba-mix and an energetic terrier mix pup. She gave them excellent walks and attention as well as attending to their different nutritional needs. I also highly recommend her in a house sitting situation as she left the house spotless! Overall Reese is professional and dependable, very communicative and flexible.

Second time I book services with Arianna and I truly lucked out. She handled Ollie with such kindness and patience. I left without a worry. What really stood out this trip was how gracefully she handled an unexpected change. My trip got delayed by two days and she added extra days without missing a beat. She was flexible, kind, and completely unbothered by the disruption. In a moment that could have been stressful, she made it feel like a non-issue. That kind of generosity and professionalism is rare. We are so lucky to have found such a gem!

Dahili is absolutely fantastic. She has stayed with my dog twice. My dog is a rescue and she can be very scared of new people and takes quite a while to even allow someone to be near her in my absence. Dahlili was so gentle, patient and handled here with great expertise, respecting her space and giving her time to warm up on her own terms. By the time I returned, my dog was having a great time with Dahili and my dog is probably more comfortable and loving towards Dahili now (and trusting) that any other adult. I cannot recommend her highly enough. She stayed in my home and she was perfect with everything, very communicative and thoughtful in every way.

We couldn't have asked for a better house and dog sitter than Paige! From start to finish, she was incredibly reliable, communicative, and respectful of our home. We returned from our trip to find the house in fantastic shape: spotless, tidy, and completely taken care of. Most importantly, our dogs, Murphy and Delta, were so happy, relaxed, and clearly well-loved while we were away. Having total peace of mind while traveling is priceless, and Paige gave us exactly that. She went above and beyond in every way. We will absolutely be asking Paige to sit for us again, and we cannot recommend her highly enough to anyone looking for a top-tier, trustworthy sitter!

Caroline provided great, loving care for my foster, Harry, and I was able to fully travel for the first time since getting him knowing that he was in knowledgeable hands. Caroline was patient with him and was even able to get him to open up, which isn’t easy!

Frequently asked questions about Rover
The average cost for House Sitting in Melrose on Rover is $53.5 per night (as of August 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.
Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .
As of August 2026, there are 19,199 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Melrose. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.
Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Melrose walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Melrose maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Melrose choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
