Ali was the best! Both Poppy (cat) and Lillian (dog) loved her! I am so grateful that they were comfortable. Ali followed their schedule for eating, walking and hanging out, and they were not even that excited when we got home. Our greeting was more like, "Oh, hi. You're back" Lillian didn't even bring me a toy, which she usually does even if I've only been gone for a half hour. I loved getting reports and photos. Ali joined our dog walking pack for the morning walk and all of our friends and their dogs really enjoyed having her. I will definitely refer Ali to anyone who asks. We will definitely engage her again!! I can't recommend Ali highly enough! Julie

Patty was an excellent sitter! She watched my dog for a long weekend and he clearly loved her. She also sent photos throughout, which I love to receive as a pet parent. My apartment was well cared for too. I highly recommend her!

Our cat is diabetic, and needs two shots of insulin per day. Latasha did a wonderful job at giving him the shot, and spending time with him to make sure he got some play and people time in while we were away. He looked great when we got back, and we're so grateful we found Latasha! Maxwell says thank you for the wonderful care – so do we!

Lili was awesome to work with and was an excellent sitter for our pup over 9 days! This was our first time using a sitter for an extended time so I had a bit of nervousness, but he was in the best hands! She was very responsive and provided regular updates, was timely, took great care of him with walks, dropping/picking up at daycare to maintain his regular schedule, cuddles, playtime and he even visited her home as well. And bonus, our apt was spotless upon return. Would absolutely hire Lili again and I know our pup will miss her.

About: I am a professional dogwalker and have had several four-legged friends in the past 5 years so I am very capable in a pinch to pamper and play with your pets, including dogs, cats and others. I know how difficult it can be to have someone to depend on when things pop up, so I hope I can be here for you. As a grad student, my availability is flexible, great news for pets who prefer not to be alone all day. Currently available for walks, drop-ins & overnight sits; not available to board. With proper notice, I'm happy to set up a meet and greet before care so I can understand navigating your space and your pet's needs, especially before longer care services. Very open to virtually meeting.

It was the first time for my dog to be sitted with someone he didn”t know. That brought me anxiety but Brionna in the meet and greet gave me enough confidence to hire her. Although Pelusa played hard to get the first day, they bonded very well as days passed by. I will definitely trust Brionna again to sit for Pelusa.

I would highly recommend Asel as a pet sitter. She is considerate, responsible, reliable and wonderful with animals. Asel stayed in our home for 11 nights and took care of our dog and cat. Our cat is very easy, but our dog is a fairly new rescue who is a scared dog and often does not want to go outside for walks. Asel was very patient and bonded very quickly with both animals. She sent us pictures and updates every day during our trip. We came home to 2 very happy animals and our home was just as we left it!

Michele was quick to respond to any of our texts while she was taking care of our two cats, and sent us pictures daily. She was so kind as to come two days early to stay with one of our cats who was having some health issues. She paid extra attention to one of our cats who has health/behavioral issues and notified us of any issues the cats were having. We felt comfortable leaving them in her care and would definitely hire her again!

About: My name is Jacob and I love dogs! I’ve been walking them and training them since I was seven-years-old. I have experience with dogs both big and small as well as breeds such as pit-bulls, mastiffs, and labradors. I’m comfortable with any type of dog. As for my previous experience, I used to walk dogs in my neighborhood in New York City where I grew up. I also love cats! I have a nice fluff-ball named Deebo. I love the little guys! I have references and will provide them upon request. I look forward to meeting you and your pet! I work night shifts starting at 10:30pm (starting on May 18th) but I’ll be available during the day and evening. Mornings are best, but I’m flexible. I will treat your home with the utmost respect and will cherish your pet. I take pride in my work and will ensure that it will seem like I was never there.

About: Hi! I'm a college student working toward vet school, so caring for animals isn't just a job for me, it’s what I genuinely love doing. I've had my own cat for 5 years, so I know what it's like to be a pet parent. I've also spent plenty of time watching other people’s dogs and cats, from very high energy puppies to older dogs who just want a quiet environment. I'm comfortable with all breeds, sizes, and temperaments. If something’s wrong I will reach out immediately. Since I'm on summer break, I have a pretty open schedule, but I do like to be upfront about my specific availability. I'm available Monday through Friday all day. On Saturdays, I'm available after 4:00 PM. I can also do evening visits, but I wrap things up by 10:00 PM. My schedule is pretty open until I start class the 28th of August. I will have class on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 11am to 1:45pm and Fridays from 10am to 1:45pm. I know routines are really important to pets, so I'll work around whatever schedule your pet is used to, like midday walks, afternoon play sessions, or evening check-ins before bed. Consistency is very important! I only provide care in your home because I believe that pets are more comfortable in their own environment, with their own things and smells. I'm really careful with doors or any gates and will always make sure to double check every exit to make sure your pet stays safely inside. I will treat your home the way I'd want mine treated, I will clean up after myself, wash any bowls I use, and leave things tidy. I'll also send any updates/photos at every visit so you can see how things are going. I will also save your vet's contact info, just in case of any emergency. I always like to be prepared for anything.

About: Hi there! I’m Liz. I was an active walker/sitter on Rover for about 4 years in Chicago, IL. I semi-recently relocated to Washington Heights, NYC, and am back on the app now that I’m settled. I live nearby Ft. Tryon Park and Bennet Park, so I’ll always have a spot to play with your pet if needed, and am a huge fan of long walks (if/when your pet is up for it). I have full-day availability for your pets on Saturdays and Sundays. I am available in the mornings Monday - Friday, until about 8:30am and in the afternoons after 5:30pm. I have WFH flexibility as well, so my schedule is fairly flexible around Rover needs. I am able to pet/house sit, dog walk, or anything else you might need. I have experience administering oral medicine to cats and dogs, can assist with elderly dogs, and have references to back up my personalized level of care. Feel free to drop any questions in my mailbox, and I hope to speak with you soon! Because my schedule is fairly flexible, 48-hour notice is preferred. Shorter notice is okay, I just may have less ability to make the booking happen. I am a HUGE walker, so Rover fits quite nicely into that daily routine. I live nearby Ft. Tryon Park and Bennet Park, so I’ll always have a spot to play with your pet if needed. I also have ample space in my apartment to crate your pet should you need longer care.

Marine did a wonderful job house sitting for us and taking care of Nuni for 4 days! Nuni usually takes a while to warm up to new people, but Marine made that connection with him in record time. She had exactly the right demeanor to make him comfortable enough to go on walks with her, which isn't always easy with him. I know Nuni gets pretty anxious when we're away, but I felt completely confident that Marine would keep him as comfortable and cared for as possible — and she did. She was also super communicative throughout the stay and took great care of our apartment as a respectful house sitter. We'd trust her again in a heartbeat with both our pup and our home. Highly recommend Marine to anyone looking for a caring, reliable sitter!

She was very accommodating and gentle with the pup and followed all the directions I gave her and then some! She even stayed a bit longer to give our pup dinner when we were held up on the way home from our trip. Dayshalis was wonderful with our cats, and a great comfort to know they were in good hands while we were out of town. This was our first time using Rover, so I was a little nervous at first, but Dayshalis made me feel very comfortable right away with how responsive, kind, thoughtful, and respectful she was. She was curious about both our cats, learning their personalities and how to best engage them and give them each what they needed. Dayshalis sent us many photos while we were gone, which were really appreciated, and I could see in the photos that the cats were not only at ease and calm, but enjoying themselves and the interactions they were having with Dayshalis. When we got home, the cats weren’t at all upset that we had been gone, as they sometimes have been with other cat sitters. We really appreciate the care Dayshalis took, and highly recommend her as an excellent pet sitter. Thanks Dayshalis!

FAQs for House Sitting - Inwood

Frequently asked questions about Rover

The average cost for House Sitting in Inwood on Rover is $51.36 per night (as of August 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.

Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .

As of August 2026, there are 19,083 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Inwood. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:

  • Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
  • Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
  • Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
  • Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.

The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Inwood walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.

It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Inwood maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:

  • Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
  • Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
  • Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.

Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!

Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Inwood choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!

The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.

All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.

Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.

Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .

If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.

For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.

Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.

A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.

Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.

Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.

If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.

Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Inwood. On Rover:

  • 89% of sitters can help with special care needs
  • 93% can help with giving oral medications or injections
  • 97% can help with daily exercise

You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.

Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
