About: Hi! I’m a graduate student in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and a lifelong dog lover based in Astoria. I provide reliable, attentive dog walking and drop-in care with a focus on safety, structure, and understanding canine behavior. I grew up around dogs and am comfortable with a wide range of breeds, sizes, and temperaments. I have experience caring for energetic puppies, large breeds, seniors, and dogs who may be shy or reactive on leash. I grew up with a diabetic lab that I was regularly entrusted to provide insulin to, and under my care, he lived for an additional 5 years following his diabetes diagnosis. My background in counseling has given me a strong awareness of body language and stress signals, which I apply when working with animals. Every dog communicates, and my job is to pay attention. On walks, I prioritize: • Safe leash handling • Positive reinforcement and consistency • Awareness of surroundings and other dogs • Hydration and weather-appropriate pacing For drop-ins, I can provide feeding, fresh water, medication (if needed), playtime, and lots of updates so you feel completely at ease while you're away. I understand that trusting someone with your pet is a big decision. I treat every dog as if they were my own and strive to provide them with the patience, structure, and genuine care they deserve. I look forward to meeting you and your pup! As a graduate student with a flexible but structured schedule, I intentionally build pet care into my daily routine. I plan my academic work in blocks, which allows me to dedicate focused, reliable time to dog walking and drop-in visits throughout the week. Because I manage my schedule carefully, I’m able to be punctual, consistent, and fully present during each visit. Pet care isn’t something I squeeze in between obligations — it’s something I deliberately plan for. When caring for pets in a client’s home, I prioritize maintaining the pet’s normal routine to minimize stress and disruption. I follow all feeding, walking, medication, and household instructions carefully and consistently. On walks, I use secure leash handling, stay alert to surroundings, and avoid unnecessary risks (such as crowded dog areas if a dog is reactive or nervous). I pay close attention to body language and energy levels to adjust pace and activity appropriately. During drop-in visits, I ensure fresh water, feeding as instructed, enrichment or playtime, and a quick visual check of the home environment before leaving. I always double-check doors, crates, and gates to make sure everything is secure. I also provide clear updates and photos so owners feel confident and informed while they’re away. My goal is for both pets and owners to feel calm, safe, and well cared for.
About: I have had multiple pets as far back as I can remember. I have always been around multiple cats and dogs, and love and cared for each one according to their needs, preferences, and proclivities. I have cared for the dogs Bonny, Scout, Belinda, Obi, and Joni since they were puppies, including the senior years for some. I’ve also cared for the cats Milo, Libby, Tux, Tabby, and currently, Jolene! I have experience with very small puppies and kitten (including their behavior around children), and have a large amount of experience cleaning up every type and consistency of mess, as well as individually tailored care instructions (including for animals who share spaces with others). I have multiple jobs which allow me to tailor my schedule as needed week to week. I will be able to fit in visit, walks, and stays as needed to fit your and your pet’s schedules. I have experience crating dogs as well as gentle discipline if needed. I have dealt with difficult or adversarial cats and dogs, and can perform things like nail trimmings, baths, and feeding as needed for the pet’s safety, health, and preferred schedule.
About: I've been caring for dogs for over 20 years and have experience with dogs of different ages, personalities, and energy levels. I currently have a senior Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier who has taught me the importance of patience, consistency, and paying close attention to changes in behavior or health. I know every dog is unique, so I take the time to learn their routine and make sure they feel safe, comfortable, and loved while you're away. Whether your pup enjoys long walks, playtime, or simply relaxing with company, I'm happy to provide the care they need. I'll also keep you updated with photos and messages so you can have peace of mind while you're apart. I work a hybrid schedule and work from home at least three days a week, giving me flexibility to spend quality time with your dog throughout the day. My in-office days are also flexible, so I can often adjust my schedule when needed. Whether your pup needs walks, playtime, potty breaks, or just some companionship, I'll do my best to keep them on their normal routine and make sure they feel safe, comfortable, and well cared for while you're away. I understand that trusting someone with your pet is a big decision, and I take that responsibility seriously. I'll follow your instructions closely, maintain your pet's normal routine, and always prioritize their safety and comfort. I'm attentive to changes in behavior and will communicate with you promptly if I notice anything concerning. Whether caring for your pet in your home or taking them on walks, I'll treat them with the same love, patience, and respect that I give my own dog.
“This was our second time working with Joy, and once again, she was extraordinary. She truly connects with the animals in her care: not just feeding and checking in, but being present, attentive, and loving. This time we had two additional cats and, as always, she rose to the challenge with grace. When an unexpected issue with our key arose, Joy didn’t panic. She had already reached out to the right people on the ground and coordinated a seamless solution, all without needing much from us while we were away. Her calm problem-solving and independence made a potentially stressful situation feel easy. She also goes above and beyond in capturing the personality of our cats: moving furniture, opening closets, and getting down to their level to photograph them in their favorite hideouts. We can tell they feel safe with her, and that is everything. We came home to happy, relaxed cats… and even some beautiful photo updates along the way. Thank you so much, Joy. We’re grateful for you, always.”

“Candice did a wonderful job caring for my three cats. She was very communicative and sent tons of pictures, which is helpful for an anxious cat owner like myself. I would highly recommend her.”

“Kiana is a responsible sitter who follows the instructions well. She played with my super shy cat, sending lots of images and video updates and very easy to get in touch with. She also helped with my mail, highly recommended!”

“Diane was such a gem for my whole time away. We had a mishap with my keys (totally my fault) and she was so helpful and understanding. My cat also requires quite the concoction of food every day and she mastered it easily. I didn’t feel worried the entire time I was away- will definitely be booking again!”

“Hayley was a perfect sitter! She took great care of our cat and sent thorough reports after every visit. She was very responsive and followed our instructions perfectly. We hope to have her help us out again next time we are out of town!”

“Kaili took great care of my two bunnies! She was a lifesaver with my last-minute request for care, and I immediately felt that my pets were in good hands. I also really appreciate her agreeing to sit for rabbits which are not technically an option on this app lol. She was communicative, took very cute pics of the bunnies, and I would have her back anytime!”

“Erin’s been so great checking in on Ronnie throughout the spring. She’s flexible with my work schedule and super communicative. I love seeing the pictures after each visit and I know Ronnie is in great hands while I’m gone. Overall, she made my move to the NYC so much less stressful knowing that Ronnie was getting so much love when Erin stopped by:)”

“Angie is a repeat sitter for my cat Presley, and she’s been wonderful every time! I can trust that his medication will be administered properly and he will be well taken care of.”

“Just the best! Went above and beyond, evident that Sarah absolutely adores animals in both her attitude and care given. Also happy to fulfil little requests to satisfy our anxious selves on account of our little guy having recently had a medical procedure. Really can't recommend Sarah enough, my only worry would be that she's so good your pet might prefer Sarah to you!”

“Jillian was fantastic! She was incredibly flexible and easy to work with. My cats are usually anxious when I travel but when I came home they were cheerful and calm”

“Devon was a wonderful cat-sitter. She was timely for every check in and made sure to send me thorough updates about my cat’s eating habits and his mood. She also gave him plenty of exercise and sent me pictures after every visit. Walter (my cat) loved her! I will definitely be re-booking her services!”

“This was our second time booking with Sylvia and we still can’t recommend her enough! We had some adjustments to our cat’s care routine and Sylvia was so accommodating and kind to ensure his needs were met - all in addition to the thoughtful notes and pictures she provides with each visit!”

Mary writes very cute, descriptive notes. She is attentive and followed all of the notes about our cat's care and instructions. Our cat isn't the most friendly with new people/sitters, and Mary was still able to take care of him, and tried to interact. I appreciated all of the photos and descriptive messages about his day. I'd highly recommend her for care for your pet!

Our cat has fallen in love with Dandan! She is so comfortable with her! She definitely enjoys the pampering and attentiveness! Dandan is an exceptional pet sitter - not only is she great with cats, but she follows the instructions to a T and sends detailed updates every day.

Yuanyuan was absolutely wonderful with Zoie! She was incredibly kind, patient, and made her feel comfortable right away. I loved receiving the videos and updates throughout the visit, it gave me so much peace of mind. Zoie can be particular about people, so seeing her relaxed, playing, and enjoying all the attention meant a lot to me. Yuanyuan was also so accommodating when I reached out on short notice. I wouldn’t hesitate to book with her again and highly recommend her to anyone looking for someone who will care for their pet like their own

Laura is a great communicator, was available on short notice and arrived to the appt on time. Stanley, our cat, looked comfortable and relaxed in all the photos Laura sent. We look forward to having her back again and would highly recommend her services to anyone looking for a caring, loving pet sitter. Thanks!
Simon has done drop-in visits for us several times, and not only does our cat love him, but he’s gone well above and beyond when we needed his help in a pinch. His check-in's and photos are second to none, too! I’d recommend his services with zero hesitation.

A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your cat, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Astoria. On Rover:

- 92% can help with giving oral medications or injections

You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
