“Samantha was wonderful with our cat & dog. She came for a meet and greet before the trip, and sent regular updates and photos while we were away. She was a huge help, and we’ll be hiring her again!”

“Rosa has been great with my pup! Communication is great, sending me photos and updates while I’m out, and follows directions for care. Helps make my dog feel comfortable while I’m away. Will definitely book again. Thank you!”

“Connor is an excellent sitter. He's very thoughtful and attentive to our pets needs (love, attention, walks, sniffs), and our needs (lots of adorable dog pics). He's very respectful and also top notch on the house sitting front as well. We are looking forward to having Connor watch our boys again soon (and I know they feel the same)!”

“Michelle was available last minute for us and did a fantastic job. We left our pups in a hotel in the city and she came and hung out with them so we could go see a show. Thanks Michelle!”

“Anna watched my pup for 2 weeks while I was away, and was trustworthy and left my place in great condition. She was responsive and provided daily updates! On top of that, my dog was injured and required medication and Anna took great care of her.”

“Alina was an amazing house sitter! She took such great care of our dog, Bogey, and kept us updated the whole time. We came home to a happy pup and a spotless house. Highly recommend her to anyone looking for a trustworthy and caring sitter!”

“Abdelkader is an amazing cat and house sitter. He took such great care of our Oliver. His care and attention to detail went beyond expectations. We were a little anxious leaving our dear cat for so long but we knew right away that he was in good hands. We really appreciated all the check ins and photos. Our apartment was clean and neat when we arrived home, which was so appreciated. I can't imagine a better cat and house sitter. We have already re-booked Abdelkader for another stay with Oliver.”

“Adri is amazing! Could not recommend her enough. We have two dogs that we had never had a sitter for and we were concerned they would be a lot to handle, each with their own tricky quirks. Since one is only 6 months old, we still have a hard time ourselves at times and we needed someone to mind them for a whole week. But the week went by without issue and we had a steady stream of really great pictures of them as a bonus. We also came back to our place looking better than we left it. We are super grateful to have made the connection and would not hesitate to have Adri sit them again.”

“Cyndi is awesome! She took great care of my puppy and sent lots of fun updates. She loved him like her own pets and made me feel so comfortable . I know puppies can be a lot and Cyndi is patient, flexible and available last minute too . She is responsible and good with communication!”

“Bethany was incredible with my anxiety-ridden little guy. She made him feel comfortable, safe, and cared for in a way that truly exceeded my expectations. I could see the difference in him right away — relaxed, happy, and clearly trusting her. She also made me feel at ease with perfectly timed updates and photos throughout the stay. Her communication was thoughtful, consistent, and exactly what I needed to know he was in good hands. I’d absolutely recommend Bethany to anyone looking for a caring, attentive sitter. And without hesitation, I’ll be asking her to watch my guy again. Thank you, Bethany! 🙌🐾”

“Ariel is a stellar sitter, kept me updated and even gave my dog a bath cus he accidentally rolled on some poop at the park. And my dog is no small dog. also cared for my cat, brushed his hair and the whole 9.”

“Carmen was wonderful with Penny! She sent updates daily and Penny seemed right at home with her. She left our home spotless! Will definitely be using her again!”

“Anj took wonderful care of Gooby and our apartment during a long weekend. She sent multiple updates throughout the weekend and we could see how comfortable Gooby was with her! Gooby is excited for his next stay with Anj 😁”

Pet parents share their Rover experiences - New York
Jillian was so great and lovely as a house sitter for our two pups! We have one senior pup who can be a bit needy and she handled both of them with love and ease - she asked great questions, had great communication and sent lots of updates of my cuties! I’d definitely recommend her!

I could not recommend Brismar more... 10/10, 5 stars!!! My partner and I have a 10 month old English Cocker Spaniel, and this was our first time being away from him for more than a few days... as well as our first time using Rover. I reached out to Brismar because of her glowing reviews and the genuine love for animals that came through in her profile. I can confidently say that your pet would be in wonderful hands with her! As a slightly anxious puppy mom myself, I was instantly put at ease by how naturally Brismar connected with our puppy. She came by for a meet and greet before the stay, which made us feel even more comfortable having her watch our crazy pup. Throughout our trip, Brismar sent adorable updates, administered our puppy's medication, and even got his eating schedule back on track. :) She took him on fun adventures, gave him so much love and attention, and treated him like he was her own! It truly warmed my heart. When we returned home, our apartment was spotless. Brismar was incredibly respectful, thoughtful, and easy to communicate with throughout the entire process. She truly knows what she's doing, and I wouldn't hesitate to book with her again. I highly recommend Brismar to anyone looking for a trustworthy, caring, kind, and experienced pet sitter! :)

Malavika was an amazing pet sitter! She watched my cat over the weekend and was incredibly communicative, sending regular updates and photos throughout the day. She made sure to spend quality time with my cat, which gave me so much peace of mind while I was away on vacation. She also left my apartment very clean. I would definitely recommend her to anyone looking for a reliable and caring pet sitter!!

Teresa was absolutely incredible. Not only did she do an incredible job taking care of our dog but our home as well. I swear our apartment has never been cleaner than when we got home. She washed all the sheets and blankets for us so that we didn’t have to worry about it after landing. She sent us so many great updates and pictures of our pup. She was so intuitive to his needs. He threw up a few days before she watched him from eating too fast but we did a bland diet just in case and she helped transition him back from the bland diet to his purina food and helped firm his stools with pumpkin. This is the longest we’ve been away from him and I genuinely felt so at ease and so much peace knowing that Teresa was watching him I was able to enjoy my trip. Our dog loved his time with Teresa and is missing her already

Caroline is amazing! My dog loves her, and she took such great care of him. It gave me so much peace of mind knowing that while I was out, he was in such caring and capable hands. It’s not easy to find someone you trust with your pet, and Caroline is definitely that person. I highly recommend her!

Anne was everything and more that I could have expected from my first time having an in-home dog sitter! She was so accommodating and took every possible step to make sure my dog was at ease, including coming to meet him prior to the session. She was so thorough in making sure she understood every part of his schedule, and was very kind and easygoing. Through her stay she sent me so many photos and updates, and I felt so comfortable with my dog in her hands - I could tell my dog absolutely adored her too (belly up even though it was their first day together)! Anne is extremely thoughtful, kind and professional, and I will be looking to her every time we need someone to care for our dog!

Melissa responded to my request very quickly, asked all the right questions, and arrived a little early which I really appreciated. She approached the dogs in a friendly and almost polite way which I thought was so smart because you never know how new dogs will respond to you. My guys liked her immediately and then it was a love fest. She checked in with me, did all I asked while I was away, and the guys had a good day without me, which was the goal! I would recommend her and would certainly work with her again.

Menna was great with my little one! Great communication, followed instructions, and provided lots of updates and photos. My dog is shy and anxious at first, not really sure of new people in her space, and Menna was patient and helped her feel comfortable. Will book again! Thanks!

Ana was incredibly kind to Luna. She spent a lot of time with her and even let Luna sleep with her. She took excellent care of Luna and respected her daily routines, including her walks and playtime. She kept me updated throughout the stay by sending me videos and letting me know how Luna was doing. She was especially patient with Luna’s picky eating habits. I also want to mention that when we returned home, the house was clean and in perfect condition. Most importantly, Luna was happy and doing very well, even though she is very attached to me.

Stephanie continues to be a great, communicative, and reliable sitter for Willow. It’s very clear whenever I get back that Willow has been happy and comfortable. The peace of mind from having someone that you trust like this makes taking trips much easier - can’t thank Stephanie enough! Please don’t book her when I need her!

FAQs for House Sitting - New York
Frequently asked questions about Rover
The average cost for House Sitting in New York on Rover is $61.05 per night (as of June 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.
Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .
As of June 2026, there are 19,032 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across New York. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.
Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred New York walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in New York maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in New York choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in New York. On Rover:
- 89% of sitters can help with special care needs
- 93% can help with giving oral medications or injections
- 97% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
