“Best sitter in this app, we have tried other sitters in the past and def Adriana have been the best.Adriana took care of our dog and cat for a week and we always felt that both of your pets were in good hands. You cannot find a better sitter in this app, she is the best.”

“Adam is a fantastic sitter and walker - would highly recommend! Extremely communicative and responsive, and was very patient with my active dog. Adam took the time to understand my dog’s unique needs and did everything he could to make sure my dog was as happy and comfortable as possible.”

“Meaghan took excellent care of our Great Dane (and our home) while we were away! She brought a calm loving energy to our sometimes anxious pup. She was punctual with her own timing and still very flexible with ours, and while we were away kept us updated with photos of our happy pup each day. Highly recommend her as a pup and house sitter!”

“i don’t have the adequate words to express how amazing Sophie was to our girl Wynter. Wynter had a bad GI issue and also fell and couldn’t get up during Sophie’s stay. Sophie was highly communicative, caring and helped get her what she needed, working with friends and neighbors to do the right things for her and get her to the vet hospital for us. Then on top of that, she went way above and beyond to ensure our apartment was clean from the messes, washed and made our bed, cleaned everything spotless and wrote a lovely note with some pastries to help cheer us up. It allowed us to come home and fully care for our sick pup. Sophie was an absolute godsend.”

“Bethany took great care of my dog and sent plenty of videos and pictures so I knew my pup was happy and healthy! Will definitely be asking her to watch my dog again.”

“Paige was absolutely wonderful with King! She took great care of him, made sure he got plenty of walks and attention, and kept me updated. King can be a strong dog, and it was clear she was confident and comfortable handling him, which gave me a lot of peace of mind. I truly appreciated the love and attention she gave him. I wouldn't hesitate to book with Paige again and highly recommend her to anyone looking for a trustworthy, caring, and capable dog sitter!”

“Alina was an amazing house sitter! She took such great care of our dog, Bogey, and kept us updated the whole time. We came home to a happy pup and a spotless house. Highly recommend her to anyone looking for a trustworthy and caring sitter!”

“Sadie watched my two cats this past weekend and we had a great experience! She left the apartment clean, followed instructions, sent lots of updates, and my cats loved her and seemed to be super comfortable with her. We will definitely be booking her again!”

“Ariel was wonderful! She is friendly and so clearly an animal person; the kind of person you want caring after your pet. We booked her for house sitting for our 4 month old puppy. She gave him lots of attention and followed our instructions. We will definitely be booking again.”

“Connor was great at looking after our 2 dogs for a week. Definitely cares about animals and it seemed like everyone got along. Sent daily updates which is always appreciated.”

“We worked with Paul for the first time when we needed someone to housesit for our two corgis for 9 days. He was wonderful to work with from the time we booked him; he was the first to reach out to coordinate and confirm visits and was always on time. Paul took a lot of time to ask really thoughtful questions about the dogs' needs, their routine, and even took the dogs on a practice walk before our trip to familiarize himself with them and the neighborhood. We also really appreciated that he does not book multiple clients at a time (e.g. a drop-in client while housesitting), and being fully remote, he dedicated 100% of his time to our dogs and home. He sent daily updates with photos and videos, and answered any questions we had while we were away immediately. Our house was in great shape, he had laundered and cleaned everything before leaving, and the dogs were happy and healthy when we returned home. I would work with Paul again without hesitation and highly recommend him for anyone who is looking for a trustworthy and reliable caretaker for their pet and home.”

“Ana was incredibly kind to Luna. She spent a lot of time with her and even let Luna sleep with her. She took excellent care of Luna and respected her daily routines, including her walks and playtime. She kept me updated throughout the stay by sending me videos and letting me know how Luna was doing. She was especially patient with Luna’s picky eating habits. I also want to mention that when we returned home, the house was clean and in perfect condition. Most importantly, Luna was happy and doing very well, even though she is very attached to me.”

About: I’m so looking forward to meeting you and your sweet dogs/cats! My family has several dogs so I know the life of a dog owner well.. I am energetic and playful, so a perfect friend for a dog or cat with high energy and need for lots of attention. I am also perfectly happy to hang out with an animal that takes it a bit slower; My senior pup just recently passed so I have experience there. I have lived with cats several times and have a special place in my heart for them, with plans to hopefully have one myself soon! I understand the particularities of cats and love them for their quirks, immediately assessing their personalities and knowing how they best like to be interacted with. Please feel free to reach out and we can set something up! I currently work in the music industry from 9 AM-6 PM EST Monday-Friday, but am only required in-office two days a week! For that reason I am able to spend full days with your animal on certain days of the week, sometimes varying depending on commitments of that week. My weekend is fairly open so it’s easier to schedule in then! I am pretty flexible and can make things work. I’m an attentive, loving, and perceptive caretaker. I understand animals and enjoy their little personalities, assessing their needs and giving them the best care I can! As their temporary caretaker, I am aware of the responsibility I have to them and will always pay the utmost attention.
“Rebecca was amazing. She took great care of our boy and gave daily updates. She was very professional and left our place impeccable. I would highly recommend her and use her again to sit for mason.”

“Anj was awesome with our fur baby! This was the very first time mycah was left alone with a sitter and I couldn’t be happier with how Anja took such great care of him. She was kind, sweet and very patient with our little anxious boy. I will definitely reach out to her the next time we come to NY. Thank you so much Anj!”

“Kenine was amazing! Very attentive to our Sky. Lots of walks and video updates for us. We felt very comfortable and knew that Sky was safe and getting plenty of love and attention while we were away. We will be booking again and highly recommend!”

“Jamela was perfect! My dog is quite often a bit standoffish and can have quite an attitude when I leave. Jamela was patient and understanding with him. By day two they were best buds, and that always makes it easier knowing your pet is happy. She sent daily updates on how everything was going, which meant I didn't need to check in much. Also, my apartment was left in great condition - she even put her bedding in the washer. I will definitely book again!”

“Josepha was the most excellent dog sitter. She took really good care of Luna and she is very knowledgeable about dogs overall. She even got a few extra safety devices for her well being. She truly cares about pups. I would highly recommend her as a dog sitter. She sends tons of photos and updates and you really feel at peace and that your dog is in good hands. Definitely 5 stars and then some :). I would absolutely higher Josepha to watch Luna again.”

Pet parents share their Rover experiences - New York
Jill was WONDERFUL while sitting our pups again - our pups can be very particular and sometimes difficult and she understands their quirks, personalities and needs so well already. She always communicates well and with good humor and we love getting her pics and updates. We also had a small apt emergency and she managed it worry understanding and patience. She’s so great!

Lola was so kind, responsive, and caring. Our pets were as obsessed with her as she with them. They were very loved and cared for. She not only took great care of our fur babies, but also spread her good vibes to our leaf babies. Everything thrived in her care. Highly recommend Lola! We are so grateful for her last minute availability 8 Stars from our 8 Paws

Anne Marie was wonderful with Goose, our 15½-year-old Maltese, and we felt completely comfortable having her stay overnight with her. Goose has a detailed routine at this age, and she carefully followed everything we had written in our “Goose manual.” She gave her medications and eye drops correctly, took her out regularly, and remained attentive to her throughout the entire stay. Goose also seemed very comfortable eating with her, which was especially reassuring to us. We truly appreciated how thoughtfully and responsibly she handled all the details involved in caring for an older dog. She was patient, dependable, and genuinely attentive to Goose’s needs. We will have her watch Goose again very soon and recommend her after this first experience.

Lexi took phenomenal care of Ollie while we were out of town for the week. She was easy to communicate with and kept us updated on how Ollie was doing each day. She treated our home with respect and left it tidy upon departure. We would love to book with her again for future trips!

Frequently asked questions about Rover
The average cost for House Sitting in New York on Rover is $66.6 per night (as of August 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.
Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .
As of August 2026, there are 19,262 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across New York. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.
Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred New York walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in New York maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in New York choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.

You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
