“Adriana was amazing!!! She was super accommodating because my pup gets really anxious and she made sure to update me with pictures during the stay. She went above and beyond in making sure that everything went smoothly and she’s so sweet. I’m so glad I got to meet her and I’ll definitely book with her in the future.”

“Amanda is such a great sitter! Arthur adores her and she has become our go-to whenever the need arises. She’s thoughtful, reliable, communicative and helped us navigate a tricky situation when our boy wasn’t feeling himself and we were halfway across the world. She even prepared a welcome back Happy mothers day card with Arthur’s paw print and flowers for our return home, which melted our hearts. Just praise and appreciation for all she does for Arthur.”

“Michelle dog sat my pup Ozzie for the night. He was immediately so comfortable with her and not as anxious as usual. She is great and communicated very well. I would highly recommend Michelle.”

“Meaghan spent the day with our two dogs and she was so kind and responsive. Sent pictures and kept us updated, even helped with a little accident. Would definitely rebook!”

“Abdelkader is an amazing cat and house sitter. He took such great care of our Oliver. His care and attention to detail went beyond expectations. We were a little anxious leaving our dear cat for so long but we knew right away that he was in good hands. We really appreciated all the check ins and photos. Our apartment was clean and neat when we arrived home, which was so appreciated. I can't imagine a better cat and house sitter. We have already re-booked Abdelkader for another stay with Oliver.”

“Ariel was great with Achilles. Since he’s an older dog his care is a little more specific (pees often and needs to be bottle fed). She handled it all very well and there were no issues during the stay that she didn’t take care of. I would use her again!”

“Bethany took great care of my dog and sent plenty of videos and pictures so I knew my pup was happy and healthy! Will definitely be asking her to watch my dog again.”

“Josefa is next level wonderful. She took such great care of my senior pup & gave such useful suggestions for some of his conditions. She kept in communication about how he was doing. My place is cleaner than I left it. She is like having a beloved family member look out for you and your pet. Definitely recommend. She is an absolute pleasure to work with.”

“I’m so happy we were able to find Anj! She was so welcoming and receptive to the instructions and to my dog. She was so attentive to him and constantly sent updates, which made me feel more at ease since this was the first time I was using rover. We definitely look forward to having her again :)”

“Mookie had another wonderful weekend with Rebecca!! She is a gem. She took such good care of our little guy and left our home spotless. Mookie is a bit anxious but clearly feels so comfortable and happy in Rebecca’s care. She sent frequent updates, which always puts my mind at ease. She is our go-to sitter and I couldn’t recommend her more!”

“i don’t have the adequate words to express how amazing Sophie was to our girl Wynter. Wynter had a bad GI issue and also fell and couldn’t get up during Sophie’s stay. Sophie was highly communicative, caring and helped get her what she needed, working with friends and neighbors to do the right things for her and get her to the vet hospital for us. Then on top of that, she went way above and beyond to ensure our apartment was clean from the messes, washed and made our bed, cleaned everything spotless and wrote a lovely note with some pastries to help cheer us up. It allowed us to come home and fully care for our sick pup. Sophie was an absolute godsend.”

“Rob took amazing care of our dog, Melon. This was our first time leaving her, and we were very nervous, but Rob was kind, communicative, and professional. It was clear that Melon was in excellent hands and she obviously adored him. 10/10 would recommend and will have Rob back ASAP to spend more time with our girl the next time we’re out of town.”

Pet parents share their Rover experiences - New York
Shiloh is the best. Within 5 minutes I felt like she was an old friend. Shiloh is warm, energetic, intelligent, loves dogs and life. She spent a week with my three dogs, from about 20 lbs. to 91 lbs. in our home and everything worked out great. She met our neighbors, followed all instructions and used her own experience when required. I highly recommend Shiloh. I hope to use her services in the near future and sure hope she is available!
Shriya is such a joy to work with! She is an A+ Catsitter. She has the most positive, can-do attitude and she can tackle anything you throw at her! We had a somewhat complicated care regimen for our cat who required several medications and a cleansing of a wound on a daily basis. Shriya was timely, responsible, did everything just right, and so upbeat throughout. She also was very communicative with us—sending us updates and photos and videos each day. I cannot thank her enough! She put us all at ease by being so great at her job! Shriya should be your first choice for catsitting—she’s wonderful!

We had such a great experience with Julia! She was caring, responsible, and clearly loves dogs. She kept me updated with photos and messages, which gave me complete peace of mind while I was away. Dexter was happy, relaxed, and clearly well cared for. I would absolutely trust her again and highly recommend her to anyone looking for someone wonderful to care for their dog! 🐾❤️

Great sitter. My dog bonded well with her and Karishma was very attentive and sweet with my puppy . He is a very active and he needs great amount of attention and Karishma made sure he was comfortable and she took him on mentioned number of walks and my puppy was really attached and happy with her by the end of the day. Would definitely consider and recommend her for future sitting requirements.

Paulette is phenomenal. She has watched our two very energetic dogs on several occasions, sometimes with little notice, and she has always been very responsive, respectful of our home, and great with our dogs! They love her and I’m always very comfortable leaving them with her.

Felipe is honestly our favorite dog sitter. Faust is a Belgian Shepherd and definitely not the easiest dog to look after, but Felipe handles her so well. He understands her personality, does training with her, and sends us detailed updates every day, which we really appreciate. He is also incredibly thoughtful and will help out around the house without us even asking. Most importantly, Faust absolutely loves him, and we trust him completely with her. We’re genuinely so sad that Felipe is moving to New York because it means we can’t book him anymore. We wish we could take him with us everywhere!

Frequently asked questions about Rover
The average cost for House Sitting in New York on Rover is $66.6 per night (as of August 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.
Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .
As of August 2026, there are 19,262 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across New York. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.
Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred New York walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in New York maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in New York choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.

- 97% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
