“Emily was great with our two big dogs! She followed their schedule, sent lots of updates, and left the house spotless. She even handled an unfortunate encounter with an aggressive off leash dog like a champ, notifying me immediately and prioritizing their care throughout. We appreciate Emily’s commitment and will ask her to sit again!”

“Rachel is super knowledgeable about anxious, reactive dogs, this really helped me have peace of mind while I was away bc my dog can be quite a lot!! She sent pictures, left my place clean, would love to have her again!”

“I couldn’t have asked for a better dog sitter! Kimberly was incredibly communicative, sweet, and attentive from start to finish. She asked thoughtful questions and really went the extra mile to make sure my dog (who has separation anxiety) felt comfortable and cared for. I could tell right away that my pup was in great hands, and she sent tons of photos which gave me such peace of mind while I was away. Her thoroughness and genuine love for dogs really came through...I didn’t have to worry for a second. Highly recommend and would absolutely book her again!”

About: I’ve had dogs my entire life, including a black lab, multiple Jack Russell terriers, a Coton de Tulear, a golden retriever, and a Biewer terrier. Caring for a wide range of breeds and personalities has given me a strong understanding of different energy levels, needs, and temperaments. My pet care experience goes beyond my own dogs. I started dog walking for neighbors in high school and continued pet sitting throughout college. From 2022–2025, I was the designated sitter for a Maltese who regularly stayed with me for weeks at a time while his owners traveled. I’m comfortable with everything from routine walks to longer stays, medication instructions, and keeping pets calm and happy when their families are away. I’m an extremely active person and love taking dogs on long walks and hikes when they’re up for it. I also work from home, which allows me to be flexible and give pets plenty of attention throughout the day. Recently, my golden retriever of 13 years passed away, and I’m excited to spend more time with dogs again. Pets bring so much joy into my life, and I approach every dog I care for as if they were my own. I work from home and have a flexible work schedule so I'm available at all hours of the day and am around on weekends for care as well. Safety and routine are my priorities. At my home, pets are supervised, have a clean and comfortable space, and get plenty of walks and attention. In a client’s home, I follow all instructions carefully, stick to their usual schedule, and make sure doors, gates, and leashes are always secure. My goal is a calm, consistent environment wherever your dog is cared for.
“Mckinley did a great job taking care of our older lab and young one year old lab. She kept their routine and spent time at home with them so they could stay out and play. I was updated regularly and felt completely confident that they were happy and safe:)”

“Beckie did a great job with our senior dog Cooper. She even went the extra mile, taking the trash out, washing the sheets and towels, washing the dishes in the dishwasher. She even replaced the creamer. We will definitely be calling her back in the future.”

“Blair was great, she was very professional and was always on time. She took care of our 3 month old pup for a night. It was the first time we left our pup with someone else, she was caring and was very responsive when answering text messages. Thank you Blair for taking care of Taco!”
“Ellyn was great with our rescue Labradoodle. She is wary of new people but liked Ellyn at our meet and greet. Ellyn sent daily action shots and coordinated with us. We highly recommend Ellyn!”

“Clare did a fantastic job with Beatrice! She stayed the whole week at our home and took such good care of our sweet 12 year old dog and the house! Can’t say enough good things about her. I felt confident and relaxed the whole trip because Clare was so good about keeping me updated and sending lots of fun pics. You’d be lucky to have her stay with your baby!”

“Marisol loved on my dogs like her own! She walked and played with them constantly and gave them lots of love. Couldn’t ask for a better communicator also sending me lots of pics. So appreciative of a caring pet taker. Definitely a good one Marisol 💕”

“I hired Jacob to take care of my dog while I was away on a work trip. It couldn’t have gone better. Jacob sent lots of updates and pics and my dog clearly loved spending time with him. He also took great care of everything and left my place spotless.”

“Jordan was wonderful! She kept us informed daily with new pictures and updates! She followed all our instructions and more! Lots of love and cuddles for our pups and she kept our home clean and tidy! We would love to have her watch our pups again in the future! She also has a friend who is a dog trainer who is awesome as well! Communicative, friendly, and responsible! Kept our fur babies happy and healthy!”

About: I’m a lifelong dog owner and lover with a big heart and years of hands-on experience. After recently losing my 18.5 pup, I miss the daily walks, snuggles, and happy energy—so I’d love to help care for your dog as if they were my own. Expect lots of love, playtime, and dependable care I work from home, I have a flexible schedule and I am available to come walk, visit or stay with your pet while you're away. I have large fully fenced patio /yard area and live on a quiet street near the beach for walks and socializing. Home is single story so no stairs if your pet is older,

“Allison was wonderful! She was prompt and Bernie loves her. She took him on a long walk, they played and when I got home he was one happy, but pooped little dog. I will happily use Allison’s service again.”

About: Hi, I’m Liana! I've loved all kinds of animals my entire life and have experience caring for a wide variety of pets. Growing up, my family had a sweet Lhasa Apso which gave me a deep love for dogs and a solid understanding of their routines. I’m also the go-to pet sitter for my friends and family, frequently looking after my sister's cat and making sure her needs are met. Beyond dogs and cats, I’m highly comfortable with small and unique pets. I have owned both guinea pigs and a leopard gecko, I know how important strict feeding schedules and habitat care are. I’m active, dependable, and ready to give your pets the exact love, exercise, and structured care they need while you’re away! I am home from college for the summer, so my schedule is wide open and very flexible! Since I don't have a rigid routine right now, your pet will be my top priority. I am available throughout the week and on weekends for morning walks, midday check-ins, or overnight sitting. Because I am home full-time, I have plenty of time to give your pet all the attention, exercise, and love they need! My goal is to keep your pet’s routine exactly as it is when you’re there by prioritizing safety, respect, and clear communication. When visiting your home, I always double-check that all doors, gates, and alarms are securely locked, and I make sure no dangerous items are left within your pet's reach. During walks, I practice active supervision by staying completely aware of our surroundings, keeping your dog securely on their leash, and sticking to your preferred routes to ensure they are safe from traffic or other animals. I treat your home with total respect by keeping water bowls fresh, cleaning up any messes immediately, and leaving your space exactly how I found it. Plus, I love sending quick photo updates after every single visit so you can see firsthand that your pet is happy, safe, and having a great time!
“Chloe was awesome! She made sure my pups were well taken care of and my house was very clean and neat when I got back. She was communicative and wanted to make sure she took care of my dogs properly. Very happy I booked her for my last minute pet sitter need!”

“Wow! Best sitter ever! Our 200lb mastiff can be a lot. Don’t be fooled by Elena’s petite frame. She can absolutely handle large, strong dogs. Excellent communication and her photography skills are excellent. We now have new pictures that are worthy of printing/framing. Treated our home with great respect and even started laundry on the towels, sheets we left out for her. I can tell our baby had a wonderful loving time (and he usually sulks and won’t eat while we’re gone). Shes got pet whisper magic.”

“Ellie was phenomenal sitter! She took such great care of our pup. She even taught her some tricks and exercises we had not thought of ourselves. We cannot recommend her more highly!”

Pet parents share their Rover experiences - Encinitas
This was our first experience with Clare and we will for sure be booking with her again! She stayed at our house for about a week to take care of our dog, Kiwi, and it was smooth and easy, which is exactly what we were hoping for. She was communicative the entire time and even offered to stay later if our flight was delayed. I highly recommend her!

So thrilled I found Kate - she was amazing with my two big dogs and was a huge help with our home while we were out of town. Highly recommend her for anything you need. She even had to help with some unexpected medication for one of my dogs and she had no issues taking care of him. Will definitely rebook!
Chloe was awesome! She made sure my pups were well taken care of and my house was very clean and neat when I got back. She was communicative and wanted to make sure she took care of my dogs properly. Very happy I booked her for my last minute pet sitter need!

Lori is outstanding. She took care of my 3 year old for 5 nights and days, and administered medication throughout the stay. She kept in regular communication so I could see photos of how my dog was doing, and left a sparkling house upon return. Dependable, consistent and high quality service from Lori!

Crystal saved us for a last minute weekend trip! She promptly set up a meet and greet and was able to house/dog sit for us the next day. She was so kind and caring with our dog. She sent frequent pictures and videos and our house was well cleaned when we returned home to our happy pup. Highly recommend her!

Kaylee is an absolute gem with our Jerry! She made us feel incredibly at ease, knowing that he was in capable hands during her four-day stay at our place. Her communication was excellent, and she took exceptional care of our five-month-old puppy. To top it off, she left the house spotless! I wholeheartedly recommend Kaylee for any sitter situation. She’s an exceptional choice!

Kelly was a WONDERFUL pet sitter! She was flexible with our travel plans and spent significant time with our pups. She took them on multiple daily walks and they slept with her at night. They were calm and content upon our return, which is how I know they were truly cared for. I highly recommend Kelly to care for your pets!!!

Eli has been our consistent care giver for Murphy. We continue to book with Eli because he shows how much he cares for our dog daily… nice walks, cuddles, and knowing her moods and needs. He offers kind advice when needed and always has Murphy’s needs in mind. Highly recommend.

Allison is great. Easy to work with, extremely accommodating and very dog friendly. Our dogs were happy to see us when we got home but acted as if we had gone to the store and back rather then left for a week. We attribute that to the way Allison kept their routines and lifestyle. Allison had their morning routine walks, dog park, feeding and relaxing just as we would and that is the best thing when we are away. We will use her again!

FAQs for House Sitting - Encinitas
Frequently asked questions about Rover
The average cost for House Sitting in Encinitas on Rover is $66.6 per night (as of July 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.
Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .
As of July 2026, there are 6,912 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Encinitas. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.
Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Encinitas walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Encinitas maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Encinitas choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.

- 94% of sitters can help with special care needs

- 98% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
