About: I've always loved animals and have experience caring for pets for friends, family, and my own. I have two cats and have cared for my boyfriend's two cats for about a year, as well as a friend's cat for another year. I am also comfortable caring for dogs and enjoy spending time with pets of different personalities and energy levels. I currently offer dog walking, drop-in visits, and house sitting at the clients home. Whether your pet enjoys long walks, playtime, feeding, cleaning litter boxes, or simply having someone keep them company, I will make sure they receive the care and attention they need while you are away. I know every pet has a different routine, and I am very detail oriented, so I will always take the time to follow your instructions and help them feel safe and comfortable. I currently work part-time, so I have a flexible schedule and can spend quality time with your pets. My goal is to treat every pet like they are my own and provide reliable, loving care. I will also keep you updated with messages and photos so you can have peace of mind while you are away. I look forward to meeting you and your lovely pets! I currently work part-time, which gives me a very flexible schedule and plenty of time to care for your pets. I'm available for morning, afternoon, evening, and weekend visits, and I can work around your pet's normal routine to make sure they get the attention and care they deserve. I'll also keep you updated with messages and photos while you're away. I've always loved animals and know how important it is to find someone you can trust to care for them. I take the time to learn each pet's routine and personality so they feel as comfortable as possible while you're away. I have two cats, a bearded dragon, and a frog, so caring for animals is a part of my everyday life. I'll treat your pets like they're my own, keep your home clean and respected, and send plenty of updates and photos so you know they're happy and doing well.
“Dana is very patient with our nervous girl, which always leads to her feeling safe and happily asking for many pets/tummy rubs. We definitely feel like our girl is in good hands and can rest easy knowing she is so well taken care of!”

About: I have experience with both dogs and cats in a home setting. Having two dogs and one cat of my own I am very familiar with all of their needs. If you’re loving for an extended member to take care of your baby as their own look no further and get ready for the pictures! I work M-F from 8:30am to 4:30 pm. Fridays off at 4pm or earlier. Thereafter I have complete attention on your fur baby. I love to go on walk (dogs & cats) In my own home I let my dogs & cat enjoy my bed, I have a couple of cat trees for my cat. I make sure they are fed their breakfast and dinner and have an automatic water dispenser.

“I can't thank Nadia enough for taking care of our two mini goldendoodles while we were away for the weekend! She is very sweet and caring, we were very nervous about leaving them alone for the first time and she really assured us that our babies were in good hands! Dependable, Professional, Caring, and Trustworthy. We will definitely be reaching out to her again in the future! Thank you Nadia!”

“Isabella is hands down the best pet sitter I have ever used! From the moment she met my dogs, it was clear she has a genuine love for animals and completely understands how to handle them. She was incredibly attentive, followed all of the care instructions perfectly, and went above and beyond to make sure they felt comfortable, safe, and loved while away. She kept me updated with great communication and the sweetest photo updates, which gave me total peace of mind. My pups were so happy, relaxed, and well-cared for when I got back. If you want a sitter who will treat your dogs like her own, look no further than Isabella. I will definitely be booking her again! Thank you so much, Isabella!”

About: Animals have been part of my life since I was little — I grew up with six dogs and started caring for them on my own around age 10. It was never a chore. I genuinely loved it. Since then I’ve looked after pets for friends, family, and neighbors, and that same feeling has never gone away. I do drop-in visits, walks, and boarding. Your pet is welcome to stay in my home, where they’ll be treated like family — not just watched over, but truly loved. I give a lot of affection and I make sure every animal feels safe, seen, and cared for. I’m trained in pet first aid and CPR, can handle oral and injected medications, and have experience with senior animals and pets with special needs. Whatever your pet needs, I’ll show up for them. I know leaving your pet with someone new can feel hard. I just want you to feel at ease — and I want your animal to feel loved while you’re gone. I’m currently studying psychology online, which gives me a flexible schedule and plenty of time to give your pet real attention. I’m available for boarding on weekdays and weekends, and I offer drop-in visits and walks in the morning or afternoon — any day of the week. Your pet is welcome to stay in my home, where everything is calm, clean, and safe. I can also come to your home if that’s what’s most comfortable for your pet. Either way, I’m respectful of their routine and give them plenty of love and attention throughout the day. I always clean up after myself and make sure your animal feels at ease the whole time you’re away.
“Brittany is so sweet with our pup, Max! She cared for him like her own. Brittany staying with Max gives us such a peace of mind! She took him for all his walks, played with him, and made sure he was safe! We already have Brittany booked again!”

Olivia is amazing, we knew right away that she would be a great fit with our newly adopted, 8 year old, 100 pound pit bull that can be a challenge to walk because she's so strong and pulls on the leash, especially when encountering other dogs. Olivia managed her perfectly. She came over a week before our trip so that they could meet, and our dog instantly loved her. Olivia took perfect care of our home and sent us updates and photos of them cuddling and walking every single day. We have another international trip coming up soon and we only want Olivia as our sitter from now on. She's such a great and very caring person, and i definitely recommend her to anyone who needs someone to watch their fur baby and home!

Dana did a great job watching my pups! She’s super professional, sent regular updates, and all the photos and videos showed that my babies were relaxed and having fun! We came home to a tidy house and happy dogs. We will absolutely be booking with her again.

I am so grateful to Heather for taking such good care of my 16 year old for baby and my home with such love and attention. I will 100% recommend her. She kept me updated with pictures and left my home in pristine condition, she is very communicative, and self sufficient. Thank you Heather, I had such peace of mind and looking forward to booking you again, sometime in the future.

Heidi was such a great dog sitter! She was wonderful to work with, very helpful, reliable, and followed all of our instructions carefully. It gave us so much peace of mind knowing our dogs and home were in good hands. We’re truly grateful for her and would absolutely book with her again!

Jason stayed with my two dogs for 5 days. We lost both our old dogs in this last year and have two newer additions, a 2yr old pit/bulldog mix and a 11mo old boxer/bulldog mix. We've only had the puppy for a few months and so she is learning how to be a house dog, how to use her dog door, and how to use her manners (she's a counter surfer and has zero regards for personal space) so it is the first time we've left them. He took care of our home and our pups over the New Years holiday, checked in daily, and sent pics of them all lounging on the couch where they like to hang. We'll connect with him again and trust that our dogs were in good hands.

Alina was terrific in so many way. Excellent pet care service, Sent us daily updates & pictures of Harrigan. She took such terrific care with our cat. We knew he was in good hands with Alina. She also took extra care of my home & left it in excellent condition. I would highly recommend Alina for your pet services but hope she will be available for our future cat sitting!

Olena. What can we say. My wife and I have three miniature poodles who have never been away for more than a few hours let alone a week and I must say they did fine for the very first time ever being with someone else. Olena: Our three poodles were very happy with you and well adjusted. You did great job!! we are very fortunate to have met you and know that in the future if we need someone to take care of our three little ones, we can count on you. Thank you so much for everything and sending pictures and videos of maha, chikis, and,Chiquita while away.

Megan is an absolutely stellar pet and house sitter! She is always on time and takes great care to get all the details right—both for our dog and our home. She communicates clearly, checks in regularly, and sends wonderful photos of our dog looking like he’s having the time of his life. We’ve used Megan before and were so impressed that we booked her again, and once again she was amazing. It gives us so much peace of mind knowing our dog and home are in such caring, reliable hands. Highly recommend her!

Frequently asked questions about Rover
The average cost for House Sitting in San Marcos on Rover is $48.84 per night (as of July 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.
Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .
As of July 2026, there are 7,239 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across San Marcos. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.
Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred San Marcos walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in San Marcos maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in San Marcos choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in San Marcos. On Rover:
- 94% of sitters can help with special care needs

- 98% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
