“Adriana did a great job with my dogs, she's on time, and so good. She let me know when she arrived and left, also let me know if both dogs ate and relieved themselves. We're looking forward to her helping us again with our pups.”

“Nadia was great! Our dog has some special needs and she went above and beyond to care for him while we were out for the day. She shared pictures throughout the day and he looked so happy. Everything we needed was done and handled perfectly. He had a great day with Nadia!”

“Claudia was amazing! We were so thankful for her. We have a senior pet, which creates even more anxiety when leaving, but Claudia eased all our nerves. She went above and beyond to make sure our pets and our family felt comfortable and truly taken care of. I would absolutely use her services again if she will have us!”

“Dana was a great puppy sitter! She communicated with me and sent me pictures of my happy animals. When I returned, my animals were very relaxed, a reflection of the good care they received. I'd highly recommend Dana!”

“Holly has been helping us take care of our doxie nori for a few years now and she has become our go to whenever we leave town and can’t bring nori along. I’m sure this goes for anyone on here looking for a sitter - our dog is basically our child so we are super selective about who we have take care of her! And finding Holly was a HUGE relief for us. She takes such good care of nori, shows her so much love and patience (nori can be a bit stubborn and not welcoming at first) and in addition to her care with nori, holly leaves our house cleaner than we left it! Cannot recommend her enough.”

“You get a dog sitter for peace of mind. And not only do you get that naturally when you book Mark, but you also get a ton of amazing pictures and videos every day that make it feel as if you’re there with your pet. This man is a game changer! Highly recommended and an extremely professional individual, if you see Mark available, you should definitely book!”

About: I’ve always grown up with pets and animals of all kinds. All different types of dogs, puppy to senior, same with cats. Ive owned chickens, goats, and a pig as well! I’ve taken care of over 100 exotic animals during an internship for an animal rescue facility. If you need someone experienced who is willing to play or provide company for your pet, I am here to do it all! My current schedule is very flexible, reach out to me with questions, I’m happy to chat! In the San Marcos/Carlsbad area, but open to other cities as well 😊 I’m a reliable, responsible pet sitter who understands that pets are family. I prioritize their safety, comfort, and routines while you’re away. I’m attentive to instructions, provide regular updates and photos, and treat every pet with patience, kindness, and respect. I have years of experience caring for animals and am committed to creating a calm, secure environment where they feel loved and well cared for. My goal is to give you peace of mind knowing your pet is in trustworthy hands.
“Abigail is a wonderful dog sitter! I had to leave town last minute, and from the moment I met her I could tell she’s both a true dog lover and a very responsible person. She went above and beyond while caring for my pup—sending me updates with photos and little details several times a day, which gave me total peace of mind. I usually worry when leaving my dog with someone new, but with Abigail I felt completely at ease. I came home to a happy, well-cared-for pup and a spotless home. I can’t recommend her highly enough—10/10!”

“Africa did amazing with our little boy. He has big separation anxiety. She was patient, kind, and provided several updates throughout the day. Aside from family members she is the only other person we trust with our dog. Will definitely be using her services again!”

“This was our first experience using an in-home pet sitter. We’re truly blessed to have found Jewels. She’s extremely professional, friendly, caring, and attentive to all of Guinness’ & Jimmi’s specific routines and stringent medication regimen. It was such a relief to know our senior dogs were safe, happy, and comfortable in their own environment rather than being stressed in a kennel. We returned to relaxed pets and an immaculate house. We couldn't be more grateful for the peace of mind she provided. We will absolutely be booking with Jewels again and highly recommend her to anyone looking for a reliable, loving in-home pet sitter!”

“Belinda is AMAZING. I had some many neighbors text me while I was gone saying they loved her and she was taking such good care of my pup. She took him for all the walks and play dates at our community dog park with his friends. She will also send you amazing pics of your fur baby! I can’t recommend Belinda enough! 5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️”

“Claudia was wonderful! Our pup is always a little nervous with new people but by day 2 she was snuggled up with Claudia. She sent frequent photos and updates, was great at keeping Kaya on her regular schedule, helped out with other household tasks and left the house clean. I appreciate knowing that Kaya is being well taken care of because it allows me to enjoy my vacation! Kaya will be looking forward to her next stay with Claudia.”

About: I have owned a dog for eight years. Before getting him I had done research on dog breeds for many years and because of that, I know about most dog breeds' temperament and exercise needs. Plus, I have some training experience. If you need me to brush or wash your dog, I can also do that with an additional charge. For the most part, my schedule is pretty flexible, especially on the weekdays. If you need serviced for your dog, please message me 3 to 7 days in advance. The sooner the better, that way I can add you to my schedule. If I walk your dog, the dog will be on a leash at all times and I would personally not walk your dog at a dog park because I do not trust surrounding off-leash dogs. If there are not any dogs in the dog park then I may consider taking the dog to the dog park.
“David and Beth did a great job looking after our pets while we were away. They were understanding and flexible when a few unexpected things came up, which really put us at ease. We appreciated their care and would be happy to have them look after our pets again in the future!”

“Olena. What can we say. My wife and I have three miniature poodles who have never been away for more than a few hours let alone a week and I must say they did fine for the very first time ever being with someone else. Olena: Our three poodles were very happy with you and well adjusted. You did great job!! we are very fortunate to have met you and know that in the future if we need someone to take care of our three little ones, we can count on you. Thank you so much for everything and sending pictures and videos of maha, chikis, and,Chiquita while away.”

“Alanna did an excellent job watching my pup for several days and put my mind at ease while traveling. My pup loved the walks and cuddles from Alanna. She really did an amazing job and I highly recommend her.”

“Bethesda is always so sweet and dependable! She takes extra great care of all of our pets. She’s has been such a huge help to us so we can take trips without worrying about our pets!”

“Rachel was amazing!! She house-sat for me for a week soon after I got a now 15 week old puppy, and she took amazing care of him. He is very high maintenance right now, but she kept up his schedule and entertained and trained him without any issues! She was very professional and communicative. She kept me updated with frequent pictures and updates. While it would be easy for the puppy to take all the attention, she also gave love and attention to my cat and kept me updated on him as well. I would definitely trust her as a house sitter again.”

Isabella is hands down the best pet sitter I have ever used! From the moment she met my dogs, it was clear she has a genuine love for animals and completely understands how to handle them. She was incredibly attentive, followed all of the care instructions perfectly, and went above and beyond to make sure they felt comfortable, safe, and loved while away. She kept me updated with great communication and the sweetest photo updates, which gave me total peace of mind. My pups were so happy, relaxed, and well-cared for when I got back. If you want a sitter who will treat your dogs like her own, look no further than Isabella. I will definitely be booking her again! Thank you so much, Isabella!

Olivia is amazing, we knew right away that she would be a great fit with our newly adopted, 8 year old, 100 pound pit bull that can be a challenge to walk because she's so strong and pulls on the leash, especially when encountering other dogs. Olivia managed her perfectly. She came over a week before our trip so that they could meet, and our dog instantly loved her. Olivia took perfect care of our home and sent us updates and photos of them cuddling and walking every single day. We have another international trip coming up soon and we only want Olivia as our sitter from now on. She's such a great and very caring person, and i definitely recommend her to anyone who needs someone to watch their fur baby and home!

Dana did a great job watching my pups! She’s super professional, sent regular updates, and all the photos and videos showed that my babies were relaxed and having fun! We came home to a tidy house and happy dogs. We will absolutely be booking with her again.

I am so grateful to Heather for taking such good care of my 16 year old for baby and my home with such love and attention. I will 100% recommend her. She kept me updated with pictures and left my home in pristine condition, she is very communicative, and self sufficient. Thank you Heather, I had such peace of mind and looking forward to booking you again, sometime in the future.

Heidi was such a great dog sitter! She was wonderful to work with, very helpful, reliable, and followed all of our instructions carefully. It gave us so much peace of mind knowing our dogs and home were in good hands. We’re truly grateful for her and would absolutely book with her again!

Jason stayed with my two dogs for 5 days. We lost both our old dogs in this last year and have two newer additions, a 2yr old pit/bulldog mix and a 11mo old boxer/bulldog mix. We've only had the puppy for a few months and so she is learning how to be a house dog, how to use her dog door, and how to use her manners (she's a counter surfer and has zero regards for personal space) so it is the first time we've left them. He took care of our home and our pups over the New Years holiday, checked in daily, and sent pics of them all lounging on the couch where they like to hang. We'll connect with him again and trust that our dogs were in good hands.

Alina was terrific in so many way. Excellent pet care service, Sent us daily updates & pictures of Harrigan. She took such terrific care with our cat. We knew he was in good hands with Alina. She also took extra care of my home & left it in excellent condition. I would highly recommend Alina for your pet services but hope she will be available for our future cat sitting!

Olena. Thank you so much for everything and sending pictures and videos of maha, chikis, and,Chiquita while away.

Megan is an absolutely stellar pet and house sitter! She is always on time and takes great care to get all the details right—both for our dog and our home. She communicates clearly, checks in regularly, and sends wonderful photos of our dog looking like he’s having the time of his life. We’ve used Megan before and were so impressed that we booked her again, and once again she was amazing. It gives us so much peace of mind knowing our dog and home are in such caring, reliable hands. Highly recommend her!

Ava did wonderful! She pet-sit our little pup for 2 nights and it went great. She is a great communicator, responded very quickly and provided frequent updates and photos which we really appreciated because we missed our puppy while we were away. She followed directions very well and we would definitely book Ava again. Thank you, Ava!

FAQs for House Sitting - San Marcos
Frequently asked questions about Rover
The average cost for House Sitting in San Marcos on Rover is $48.84 per night (as of July 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.
Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .
As of July 2026, there are 7,239 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across San Marcos. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.
Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred San Marcos walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in San Marcos maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in San Marcos choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in San Marcos. On Rover:
- 94% of sitters can help with special care needs

- 98% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
