“Unfortunately, we found Kayla a few days before we moved to Texas. I wish we had known about her years before! We have one large dog who just went through surgery and two small puppies that are extremely high energy. She and her family were so great with all of them. She provided pictures while we were gone and gave great updates that really made us feel like our dogs were having a great time. Cannot recommend Kayla enough to anyone who needs a dog sitter!”

“Robert and Andrea were amazing. I was in the area for the first time for a short period, and they were very welcoming and accommodating. They took Rocky on such short notice and Robert was incredibly patient and understanding when Rocky initially struggled to adjust. Communication was great leading up to the appointment and during, and I really appreciated the photo update- it was reassuring. They made sure he was fed, got him out for a nice walk, and helped him burn off energy. He came back happy and settled—truly appreciate their care. Highly recommend!”

“Lori was very friendly & had great communication. My pup Jewels had a good time playing with her two sweet dogs & had plenty space for Jewels to play. She sent me photos & videos of her having a good time. Lori was very accommodating to my dog & I would highly recommend! Thanks again Lori for taking good care of my pup. 🙂”

“Christopher and his family were an awesome choice for a day sitter for my Sammy. He took him on several walks and was very responsive and flexible with my own schedule needs. I will definitely be booking with him again!”

“Michelle is exceptionally kind and Boo had a wonderful experience with her. Thank you for taking such excellent care of Boo. Didn’t I tell you she’s the sweetest puppy that has ever existed?”

About: I've had pets my whole life and I love ALL animals. I think it all started when my parents adopted a kitten when I was six and I would dress up the kitty in doll clothes and take her everywhere she was allowed to go! I always considered myself a cat-person, but when my mom brought home a puppy from a coworker many years ago, I took care of him like he was my own and sure enough he became my dog! I currently own one dog, two cats and a leopard gecko and they certainly make life more interesting with their individual personalities. My family has always called me the "animal-lover" because I'm the one who would frequently bring home animals that needed to be re-homed. I could never say no to anyone who asked if I could take in an animal, and if I couldn't keep them, then I would try to find someone else who could. I have much experience walking friend's, relative's, and coworker's dogs when they were on vacation. My most recent experience, for the past few years, has been dog-sitting a coworker's massive-sized Goldendoodle when he leaves town for Thanksgiving and other holidays. I give him food and water, take him out for long walks around his area and provide exercise at the park playing fetch and running around. I also fostered a sweet senior Pomeranian for a lady who was in the hospital a couple years ago and I've walked and dog-sat for many friend's over the years. People always ask me for petcare needs because they know I love animals, they trust me, and I don't have kids so they know I'm usually available. These were all good experiences that enriched my life and helped me know how to handle different pet situations. It makes me feel good knowing that I am helping either a dog get outside to relieve itself and feel the warmth of the sun or spend quality time with a cat while its person is away. I'm currently working part-time on a random schedule so I have plenty of availability to take dogs out for walks, check in on them for potty breaks, and provide stimulation and exercise. I live in a townhouse with a small backyard and a really high fence that is very secure for pets. I have a few different sized kennels to crate dogs who are most comfortable this way. There is plenty of room for pets to stay and pet gates throughout the house when needed to fence off certain areas or separate pets if needed.
“Had a great experience with Rachel! We needed a last-minute booking, and she was very accommodating and responsive. Our pup seemed really happy and comfortable during the stay, and it was clear he was well cared for. We appreciated the updates and peace of mind. Would definitely book again!”

“Thank you, Claudia! Claudia was great with our last minute request to help care for our puppy and adult dog. She was fast to respond and kept us informed. We would enjoy having her watch our dogs again!”

About: I’ve taken care of dogs for many many years not only my own dog but also many of my neighbors. Neighbors, friends, and family rely on me to walk, feed, and love their pets as my own. I’m experienced and ready to love your dog! I treat every animal with patience, consistency, and genuine affection. I’m currently a student at CSUSM so having any type of animal interaction would make my days so much brighter. Being away from home I am missing my daily walks with my own dog, so with my schedule I can do morning and afternoon walks as well as any overnight boarding! I live in a pet-friendly apartment complex with a secure dog park, perfect for playtime and exercise. Since I don’t have any pets of my own, your furry friend will get my full attention and care. I always keep a close eye on pets during walks and play to ensure they’re safe, happy, and comfortable in a calm, clean environment.
“I'm so glad I found Priscilla. She was able to accommodate a very last-minute booking and I'm so grateful she could help us out. My dog is a little timid and nervous around new people and situations. Priscilla was so patient and kind and my dog did great with her and her two pups. Priscilla was also flexible when our schedule changed, and she kept me updated throughout the day with great communication, which gave me so much peace of mind. I wouldn't hesitate to book with her again, and I highly recommend her.”

About: I have had pets for most of my life. My family and I currently have one very playful dog, two cats and a bearded dragon. I, along with my family, have cared for family, friends and neighbors pets for several years now. I work from home, usually only leaving during the day for a few minutes in the afternoon for school pickups (most days I take my dog with me) or the occasional quick errand. I take breaks throughout the day for indoor and outdoor pet play time and daily walks. While I am usually home, if I need to be away for a time there is almost always at least one family member home. When working, my office door is always open. I have a fenced yard for outdoor play time and potty breaks and plenty of sidewalks, trails and parks near my home for daily walks and places to explore.
About: Ive had a variety of pets since my first fish tank at age six. Ive responsibly taken great care of all animals Ive had personally or have helped with. Im an empathetic person that is happy to be able to be there for all pets and animals im general. Ive helped rescue and return home many lost dogs; my heart is in helping. My schedule is very flexible; I can accommodate most requests and will always communicate to ensure everything and everyone is taken care of. I am here and ready to help. My dog wallace is wonderfully kind and playful. She has a huge heart and enjoys every person and animal she meets. We play in our fenced backyard with grass for relaxing in sun or shade. My senior cat mostly stays in one room and does her own thing; she has met several dogs that have stayed with us and has had no problem with any. There are three parks and a well landscaped college campus within easy walking distance for interesting, enriching walks.
“I left my babies Angel and Bell with Delfina on late notice and they had an amazing time. This was my first time using Rover and first time leaving my dogs with anyone outside the vet. Delfina was communicative and sent lots of pictures. My babies who are normally anxious were very comfortable around Delfina. I feel very safe leaving my dogs with Delfina.”

Dog parents share their Rover experiences - San Marcos
This was my first true experience having a dog sitter and boy did Kayla blow it out of the water. I was extremely nervous finding someone to care for my two golden retrievers, that I’ve had since they were both babies, and finding someone I trusted to watch them was anxiety inducing. Long story short I am in a hotel temporarily with the doggos until our new home is ready and finding care was imperative. After scrolling through some rover profiles, and finding Kayla’s page I sent her a message and we initially did a meet and greet! Phenomenal idea to ensure the doggos get along and for me to know exactly where they’ll be and see the home, etc! My Golden’s were given love and then some more!!! They were even taken out on a field trip to a softball game where they got even more lovings. My Golden’s Rosie & Delilah made amazing friends with Kayla’s Golden, Copper, and overall I couldn’t have asked for a better pet sitting experience and I feel so reassured knowing I now have a trusted, affordable, genuine pup sitter. My babies received immense love from Kayla along with everyone in their family. The children were beyond caring and sweet to the girls and they absolutely adored them. They were with Kayla and her family for 2 full days last week, one for a very important medical appointment that I couldn’t miss. After picking them up the first day I was floored when one of my Goldens ran away from the car as we were getting ready to leave and ran to Kayla’s front door. She had so much fun she did not want to leave!! The second day before leaving I asked if they wanted to go see Kayla and Copper and both of them bounced up and started running around. Thanks a million Kayla, you took so much weight off my shoulders and the updates throughout the day were adorable!!! You’re the best!

The tip may not register as it was cash, but I greatly appreciate Vicki her whole family and her precious dog are all so sweet! It takes a lot for me to entrust Marley with someone, I’ve booked Vicki a few times and would do it again! I also like when she sends me pics of my dog so I can smile and know he’s having fun while I’m away. Thanks, Vicki!

Robert and Andrea were amazing. Maya was absolutely amazing, not only with diesel but with everything asked of her. My dog is new to our home and is a shelter pup with extreme separation anxiety. She kept me updated all day with information on how his day was going and photos. She did great with handling his walks and keeping him busy. Diesel came home tired after a long, fun day. She was also able to keep up with his high energy and behavior outbursts (he is a 2-year-old German Shepherd). She is extremely sweet and takes care of our pets like her own. I highly recommend her to anyone in the area.

Here are tips for finding the ideal day care fit for your dog:
- For some small dogs: In-home day care can be the perfect fit. Look for sitters whose "can host" section only lists dogs weighing 0–7 kilograms and/or 7–18 kilograms. During your Meet & Greet, ask about play areas based on dog size and energy level.
- For high-energy dogs: The ideal doggy day care can offer scheduled breaks and outdoor spaces or activities. You can also find sitters who host multiple dogs to satisfy your pup’s socializing needs.
- For dogs who prefer human-only companionship: Use the filters "Doesn't own a dog" and "Only accepts one pet at a time" to find the right care.
Play groups can be an option when you book with a day care sitter through Rover. Many sitters do host a small number of dogs at the same time. Smaller dog packs are generally safer, more fun, and ideal for dogs who enjoy playtime but also want to relax throughout the day. When looking for your dog’s pack, check the sitter’s profile to see if they "Accept multiple clients" or have their own dogs. Then during the Meet & Greet, you can see whether your dog is a good fit for their social circle!
While each sitter sets their own vaccine requirements, staying up-to-date on your dog’s vaccines is the best way to be "boarding ready". Vaccinations help create a safe environment for all pets under a sitter’s care.
Many sitters in CA ask that dogs be up to date on core vaccines like the Canine Parvovirus, Canine Distemper, Canine Adenovirus, Bordetella, and Rabies.
By discussing your pet's health history early, you’re adding a layer of confidence for you and your sitter before the booking begins.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your dog, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
