“This was our first Rover experience and were a bit apprehensive. From the start, Elizabeth was great, stopping by to visit our doggies Eloise and Fluffy and to hear about them. She was meticulous in noting everything about them that could help her provide the most comfortable experience while we were away. During our trip, she kept us informed about the pups. She left the house tidy and clean. What more could we ask for? We wouldn't hesitate to use Elizabeth on a future trip. Thank you, Elizabeth!”

“Michelle is wonderful!!! She took care of both our pups while we were gone on a family vacation. She provided optimal care, snuggling with our babies and sent pics when out on walks!! She helped soothe my anxiety with prompt texts, I would absolutely recommend her again!!”

About: I have pet sat for over 10 years, caring for all kinds of animals — dogs, cats, rats, and more. I've been a pet owner my whole life, so I deeply understand the bond between a pet and their family, and I treat every animal in my care as if they were my own. I have taken care of dogs of all ages-old dogs who need medication and young dogs who need plenty of exercise and playtime, so I am fully prepared to adapt to your pets needs. I'm active and love the outdoors, so your dog will always get plenty of walks, playtime, and fresh air. I am currently working part time and have a lot of availability throughout the week and weekends. I can be there whenever you need, morning or night, as well as throughout the day. I do not have any pets at home but I have a great backyard with plenty of quiet residential streets around me that are perfect for walking your pet!
“Joy is a first rate sitter. Punctual on timing, very good communication, and our dogs love her. We were glad to have her with our dogs so that we could relax and have fun at our friend’s birthday party. She sent a few pics and updates to keep us informed about her and the dogs. Highly recommended.”

“Michelle was incredible and so patient with my two dogs, one of which is a newly adopted 70 pound pitbull with anxiety issues. Not a lot of dog sitters would have her level of patience. She was also so accommodating to my unique situation and was a great communicator. Will definitely want her to dog sit next time I need someone!”

“Scarlett took such wonderful care of our dog, Snow Cone! She was so kind, flexible to a couple of last minute changes, and took lots of great photos. She communicated really well with us, with very prompt responses, and asked great questions during the meet and greet. We are excited to book her again soon!”

“After using Rover for almost 5 years now I can safely say that Maria has been the best I’ve met so far! She’s super loving, genuinely caring, transparent and a true dog lover. She not only followed Rio’s schedule but went over and beyond by getting treats and fruit for him when they got over. Maria even cleaned up the house and linens which she totally didn’t have to but it just shows how sincere she is. She treated my home like her own 💕 and sent regular updates and pictures which I appreciated so much since this was a longer trip … Rio looked so happy in them! As we got home and it was time for Maria to head out, Rio gave her so many kisses and even went looking for her in the guest room later in the night. I truly appreciate you Maria, you are really the best. Rio and I hope to meet you again soon :)”

“This is the first time we have had a pet sitter come and stay in our home. We had a wonderful experience with Gabriela and would definitely hire her again. She was easy to communicate with and sent us tons of pictures of the animals. It made our get away so much more relaxing knowing our pets were well taken care of. Would highly recommend Gabriela for all your pet sitting needs!”

“Darya was amazing! She sent me multiple daily updates with photos. The animals loved her right away which was very reassuring and she left my house very clean and even stripped the sheets! I will be using her again.”

“Annie was so wonderful to take on the responsibility of watching our gang of animals,3 cats and 2 dogs. We felt so at ease knowing they were being so well cared for while we were away. We will definitely use Annie again!”

“This was our dog's first overnight stay with Donna, whom our dog adores, and we appreciate her very much, too! Donna has provided much needed help to our family on occasion, and she provided cute photos of our very happy dog. Safety is of primary importance to us all. Thank you, Donna!”

“Rachel was an amazing sitter! She was attentive, great at communicating and took such good care of our fur baby Charlie! This was our first time having a Rover sitter and we were very skeptical at first, but Rachel made us feel super comfortable and made sure to update us throughout our trip. Our boy Charlie had a blast playing with her. We have already re-booked Rachel for our next upcoming trip! 10/10 service and would 100% recommend!”

“Keilah did a great job caring for my Golden Retriever in my home during my 3 day trip. She sent photos and videos of her walks and playing with my dog. She also took good care of my home. She was very professional in how she approached the job. Thanks, Keilah”

“Rendell is amazing. He is a great communicator and took stellar care of my pup on a very last minute booking. I will definitely track him down again the next time I need a sitter.”

“Sejla is a gem! We are so thankful for her. Excellent communication with meaningful updates, trustworthy and honest, punctual and responsible, and the absolute kindest. She always leaves our house in the same condition. Our dog loves her and we know Daisy is safe and in good hands with Sejla!”

About: Hi, I'm Pratik! Animals have been a massive part of my life for as long as I can remember. Growing up with a german shepherds (Bruce, Throw, and Cash) I learned early on what it takes to care for large, energetic breeds from structured walks and playtime to understanding their body language and unique personalities. In addition to my deep love for dogs, I have plenty of experience caring for cats. Whether they are high energy kittens who want to play or sweet seniors who just need a quiet companion and a gentle scratch behind the ears, I know how to make them feel safe and comfortable. I'm responsible, highly attentive to detail, and dedicated to making sure your furry family members get the same love and care they would receive if you were home. I can't wait to meet your pets! Because I do pet care on a part-time basis, I am able to give your pets my focused, dedicated attention during our time together. My schedule allows me to easily fit in active daily dog walks, drop-in visits, and consistent feeding routines without rush. For Long-Term Services: I am absolutely open to and available for long term bookings and regular schedules! Because long term care requires consistency, I just ask that we chat and discuss the details first to make sure my schedule perfectly aligns with your pet's routine. In Your Home (Drop-ins & Sitting): I treat your home with the utmost respect. I follow your exact instructions for feeding, fresh water, litter box scooping, and exercise, making sure your pet gets quality companionship without the stress of leaving their familiar environment. Mandatory Meet & Greet Policy: Because every pet and household has unique needs, I require an initial in-person meet-and-greet before officially agreeing to any service.
About: I have 18 years of experience caring for other people’s pets and have loved animals for as long as I can remember. I grew up with dogs, cats, and small animals, and I have also worked in a large-animal veterinary setting. My experience includes puppies, senior dogs, large and small breeds, multiple-dog households, and pets with medical or special-care needs. I am comfortable administering eye and ear drops, oral and topical medications, and food additives according to your instructions. As a preschool teacher, I am calm in chaotic situations, attentive to individual needs, adaptable, nurturing, and playful. I take time to learn each pet’s personality, preferences, and routines. Whether your pet wants active play, a long walk, gentle companionship, or a quiet presence nearby, I adjust my approach to help them feel comfortable and secure. My goal is to keep your pet’s life as familiar and predictable as possible while you are away, reducing stress by following their usual feeding, walking, medication, play, and bedtime routines. I work as a preschool teacher during the school year and am generally available for morning, late-afternoon, and evening care. My school-year schedule is best suited to pets who are comfortable being alone for at least six hours during the day. I have my greatest flexibility during summer and school holiday breaks, when I may be able to accommodate pets that need more frequent visits, closer supervision, medication on a specific schedule, or additional companionship. I will always discuss your pet’s routine and needs with you before booking to make sure my schedule is a good fit. I care for every pet according to their established routine, personality, comfort level, and household rules. Before care begins, I make sure I understand feeding instructions, medications, walking routines, triggers, hiding places, emergency contacts, and any safety concerns. I strive to be consistent and dependable, communicate clearly, and keep you updated while you are away. In a client’s home, I treat both the pets and the space with care and respect. I monitor pets for changes in behavior, appetite, mobility, bathroom habits, or overall well-being and will contact you promptly if anything seems unusual. I can also board apartment-friendly dogs who are calm and safe around cats. Because I have a senior tripod cat, her safety and comfort are essential. Boarding requests will need to be a good match for a shared apartment environment, and I will carefully discuss your dog’s history with cats, behavior indoors, routine, and supervision needs before confirming.
“Mary is absolutely incredible. She kept me updated, played with my cat, and my cat was literally slow blinking at her in the Live Photos she sent me (which cats do as an expression of affection). She is a huge animal lover and I would trust her with your pet 11/10 times. I think my cat is going to miss her more than me at this point. Ha!”

Pet parents share their Rover experiences - Santa Clara
We have a very grouchy senior chiweenie, six chickens and a senior goldfish. Mámoo took care of them over a long weekend while we were away and left the house and all the pet equipment spotless, and the pets very happy. From the beginning of the meet and greet, Mámoo paid attention to our pup’s body signals and by the end of it our pup (who usually barks nonstop at strangers for hours) was sleeping next to them. It has never happened before and we were so relieved to leave our special girl in such expert care. Mámoo sent us photos and videos of each pet every single day. It is a rare sitter who can care for so many different pets and really build a rapport with them in such a short period of time. We are over the moon pleased with the care and recommend Mámoo 100% to anyone looking for loving, empathetic care for their non-human babies.

Maria house sat our 10 month old German shepherd puppy for a three day weekend and he was very well looked after and played and cuddled with. We were wondering what to do with our pup when we were traveling since the friends we usually leave him with were also traveling. We found Maria on Rover and she came home for a quick meet and greet at short notice. She and our pup hit it off immediately so that was a big relief for us to leave him with her. She also kept us posted with photos and videos and other updates. Overall a good experience for us and for our pup.

Anke was an amazing cat sitter, and was wonderful with our three cats and condo! We found Anke through the Rover app and booked after a meet and greet. Our cats are a little tricky- we have some health issues and behavioral problems, but Anke was an absolute pro and made us feel at ease. She sent lots of updates and was very thoughtful and supportive. We will be booking with Anke in the future, thank you Anke!

Tianyu was very attentive to our cats' well-being. One of our cats fell ill before we left on vacation and she kept a close eye on her condition. She sent daily updates with pictures and was easy to communicate with. Tianyu took very thoughtful care of our cats, and we will be using her help again in the near future.

Morgan saved us from a terrible situation with another sitter while we were in another country. She came into a situation that we didn’t understand nor did we have visibility to the state of our apartment. It was bad. Morgan worked with us and our dog tirelessly while dealing with a disgusting apartment from our previous sitter. She helped coordinate with a cleaner and she helped coordinate with my friend to check on our dog. She sent endless photos and updates. She was incredibly communicative, thorough, and we truly cannot recommend her enough. If you want peace of mind, choose Morgan.

Repeat client here. Zhi is wonderful. She came through last minute when I had to leave town for a medical emergency. I've got an enemy GSD, a snake Australian cattle mutt, two cats, and an outdoor kitty that had claimed my house as her territory. Zhi is so compassionate and attentive, a wonderful house sitter, and very sweet soul. I'd be lucky to book her again!

Maya was a wonderful dog sitter and house sitter. She took wonderful care of our dog and also helped water our plants while we were gone. She sent over photos and let us know that things were going smoothly. Would definitely highly recommend her and hire her again next time we have to travel!
Seva was amazing. This was the first time that we used Rover and had someone other than family take care of Chip. Chip is 17 years old and has anxiety when the family is not home. Seva took such good care of Chip and would send pictures and updates throughout her time with him. As we were off celebrating my daughter's wedding, it was great to know that Chip was well taken care of by Seva, who is very experienced with dogs especially older ones. It was one less thing for me to worry about. Thank you Seva!!

Frequently asked questions about Rover

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Santa Clara walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Santa Clara maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Santa Clara choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Santa Clara. On Rover:
- 92% of sitters can help with special care needs
- 99% can help with giving oral medications or injections
- 95% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
