“Anna is very friendly and our dogs were very comfortable with her. She communicates well and kept our dogs and home safe while we were away. I highly recommend her and will be reaching out to her again for future dog sitting needs.”

“Jarrod was absolutely fantastic! I was initially nervous leaving my dog for a week as she has IBD, a torn CCL awaiting surgery, and skin issues, but Jarrod took such good care of her! Will book again and I highly recommend him!”

“Sabrina was absolutely amazing! She took great care of my sensitive boy while I was gone, sent many updates, and stayed on top of his medications. He was so happy when I got home. I highly recommend her!”

“Aleksandra is absolutely incredible. She is the dog whisperer. I am a passionate Pet Mom and my pets are my universe. Leaving them for 5 days with a stranger would typically terrify me, but this was the best trip I have ever taken because I knew my pets were safe with Aleksandra. I have never had a better experience with a pet sitter. She trained my 17 week-old puppy to have better manners than when I left, and I feel like I came home to a different dog!!! Additionally, my pets have significant health issues (frenchie with IVDD, for one) and she willingly accommodated all of their special needs without a second thought. Moreso, she left my home cleaner than how I left it. I came home to a spotless house with some calming music on the TV for the pets!!! She sent tons of pictures and updates multiple times per day and not once did I feel worried or anxious about the wellbeing of my beloved pets or my home. I am blown away by this experience, and she will forever be my first stop when I need a pet sitter. THANK YOU, ALEKSANDRA!!!!!!”

“What a great experience! I had Vanessa stay at my place for 5 nights with my 2 dogs and it was great. I got pictures of my girls and updates daily so communication was excellent! My girls were happy and healthy when I got home and my place was clean. Will absolutely be booking again! :)”

About: Dogs have been part of my life since I was a child, and I’ve cared for dogs of all sizes, personalities, and energy levels for over 11 years. I was the proud owner of a special-needs senior dog who I cared for from the time I was 18 until he peacefully crossed the rainbow bridge, so I understand the patience, dedication, and unconditional love our pets deserve. I also regularly dog sit and have experience walking large breeds, handling excited or strong dogs on leash, and staying calm in stressful situations. Safety is always my top priority, whether we’re out for a walk or relaxing at home. I treat every dog like they’re part of my own family, making sure they receive plenty of exercise, affection, routine, and personalized care. My goal is for both you and your pup to feel completely comfortable and confident while you’re apart. I’m currently in school, so I appreciate the flexibility that pet sitting provides. Outside of occasional Monday and Wednesday mornings, my schedule is very open, and I’m happy to accommodate morning, afternoon, evening, and weekend visits. If you’re located in the downtown area, I’m especially available for drop-in visits, walks, feedings, or last-minute check-ins. Caring for animals has been part of my daily routine for over 10 years, so fitting pet care into my schedule comes naturally. Your pet’s safety, comfort, and routine will always be my top priorities. I understand how important consistency is, so I’ll follow your care instructions closely—from feeding schedules and medications to walks, playtime, and bedtime routines. I pay close attention to each animal’s body language and behavior and can recognize when something seems off. I have experience caring for pets with different personalities, energy levels, and medical needs, and I remain calm in stressful situations. I treat every pet as if they were my own, keeping them safe, loved, entertained, and well cared for while you’re away. I’ll also send regular updates and photos so you can have peace of mind knowing your furry family member is in good hands.
“Mara went above and beyond house sitting and watching my dog while I took a trip home for the weekend. She took amazing care of my fur baby. I would 10/10 recommend going to her!!!”

“We were on a trip and decided to stay in an Airbnb. It turned out that we needed a dog sitter at the last minute, and that's when Darya came to our rescue! Let me tell you, she was absolutely amazing! I mean, I wish she could come back home with us and be Rosie's permanent sitter whenever we're away. Darya went above and beyond, sending us photos, videos, and updates throughout the day. And guess what? They even took our furry friend to the beach! We could see how happy it made Rosie, and it warmed our hearts. Darya really made an effort to spend quality time with our dog and even stayed late for us. I must say, we were truly impressed. The day couldn't have gone any better, thanks to Darya’s incredible care.”

“Luke was extraordinary. Exceptional communication: speedy, clear, and friendly. He was genuinely keen to help everything go smoothly. My dog seemed happy with him, and it was effortless.”

“Luz was great! She was very detail oriented, professional, and a good communicator. I am thankful for the great care she provided my dog and I plan to rebook with her in the future.”

“Vanessa looked after our three doggies for five days while we were out of town on vacation. She gave the doggies 24 hours a day attention. Highly satisfied, she was wonderful, and we will use her services again for sure. She gave us a lot of updates, photos and videos. We recommend Vanessa !!”

“Sarah was able to fill in at the last moment when we had a sitter cancellation. Initial request, explanatory texts, and meeting our new pups all transpired within a couple of days. She was sensitive to our new dog’s uncertainties as they experienced a pet sitter for the first time at two months since their adoption. Sarah rose to the few challenges that came up while keeping us well informed with texts, photos and videos. And the dogs, even the skittish one, soon accepted her as one of their own.”

About: Hi! I’m a 26 year old dog lover, grad student, and proud dog mom to my 6yr old doodle mix. I also have experience fostering through The Animal Pad, a local non profit organization. I’d love the opportunity to give your dog some extra love and attention while you’re away! Whether they need a walk, a potty break, some playtime, or simply a little company and cuddles. I know how much our dogs mean to us, so I’ll treat your pup with the same patience, care, and love I give my own. About: As a dedicated animal lover, I offer personalized in-home sitting and fun outdoor adventures. Through years of shelter work—including handling weekend walks and group pack hikes for Westside German Shepherd Rescue—I’ve gained great experience managing different sizes and energy levels safely. I have an extremely social pup of my own who loves making new friends. Whether I'm staying over to keep your dog comfortable in their own home or picking them up to join us for an after-work beach romp, your dog will get structure, great exercise, and endless love. My weekday routine is consistent and reliable: I work an office job during the day, leaving my evenings and weekends dedicated to pet care. I love winding down after work with active evening visits, walk routines, or dog beach outings, followed by cozy evening drop-ins for cats. I’m also fully available for weekend house sitting, long walks, and attentive care when you're away. I treat your home and your pets with the highest level of care and accountability. Valeria did a great job caring for my cats. She sent daily updates and double checked arrival and departure times in case I had a change in travel plans which I appreciated. One of the kitties can be a little particular, but she seemed to warm up to Val quickly. Highly recommend Val for cat sitting needs!

We had such a great experience with Robyn and Connor! They were both incredibly kind and communicative from the start, and our dog settled in with them almost immediately during the meet and greet, which made us feel so comfortable leaving her in their care. We got lots of photos and updates throughout the stay, and our pup looked so happy and relaxed the entire time! They also took amazing care of our home and left everything super clean. We’ll absolutely be using them again and would highly recommend them!

We couldn’t have asked for a better dog sitter! She was incredibly communicative throughout our entire 3-day trip and sent us so many photos of our two dogs, which gave us such peace of mind while we were away. It was clear that she genuinely cared about them and made sure they were happy, comfortable, and well taken care of. She went above and beyond in so many ways — even cleaning up after herself and washing her towels and linens before she left! She also generously offered to stay later if our flight was delayed, which was incredibly thoughtful and reassuring. We came home to two very happy, well-loved pups and a spotless house. We would absolutely have her watch our dogs again and highly recommend her to anyone looking for someone trustworthy, caring, communicative, and dependable.

Jenya was absolutely incredible, and I cannot recommend her enough! From the very beginning, she was dependable, communicative, thoughtful, and incredibly thorough. She sent us detailed updates two to three times a day, which gave us so much peace of mind knowing our pets were safe, happy, loved, and being genuinely cared for while we were away. What stood out most was how much she truly cared. She didn’t just come in, feed them, and leave. She spent time with them, gave them attention and affection, made sure everything was taken care of, and treated them like they were her own. She even went out of her way to buy them toys with her own money, which was such an unexpected and incredibly sweet gesture. 🥹 It is rare to find someone who is not only reliable and professional, but also so genuinely loving toward animals. We never had to wonder what was happening at home because Jenya kept us informed every step of the way and was incredibly attentive to every little detail. We came home to happy, well-loved pets and everything exactly as it should be. Knowing we have someone like Jenya who we can completely trust with our babies is priceless. She went above and beyond in every possible way, and we would book her again without hesitation. If you are looking for a pet sitter who is trustworthy, caring, communicative, responsible, and will truly love your pets while you’re gone, Jenya is the one. 10/10, absolutely amazing! ❤️🐾

Ivana absolutely knocked it out of the park\! She was incredibly reliable, super friendly, and one of the best communicators I’ve had as a dog sitter\. She knew exactly what questions to ask, what was worth an update, and what information needed to be shared\. She was also very understanding of my schedule and extremely flexible\. I felt completely comfortable knowing my dog was in good hands\. I would absolutely recommend Ivana and would book with her again in a heartbeat\!

Kristin was wonderful with our 2 cats! Our shy girl adored Kristin instantly and spent lots of time with her, and Kristin spent the time to take our crazy boy outside on a leash (a crazy thing to ask for a cat)! We already have our next stay booked with Kristin, and they’ll be happy to have her again ❤️

Mallorie did a great job taking extra care of my senior dogs. She is very communicative and friendly. She also took additional steps before leaving to make sure my home and dogs were ready for my return. I appreciate her flexible schedule and special attention to my babies.

Luz was absolutely amazing! She stayed at my home with my two dogs while I was out of town for the weekend and was incredibly attentive throughout the entire stay. She sent lots of texts and photo updates, which was amazing and made me feel super comfortable knowing my girls were happy and being well taken care of. She was also an amazing house guest, I came home to my apartment just as clean, if not cleaner, than when I left! Most importantly, the dogs were happy and clearly well cared for. I felt completely confident having her stay with them and will 100% be booking her again for future trips. I couldn’t recommend her enough!

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred San Diego walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in San Diego maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in San Diego choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in San Diego. On Rover:
- 94% of sitters can help with special care needs
- 96% can help with giving oral medications or injections
- 98% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
