“Aleksandra watched my dog and cat during the 4th of July holiday at my house and it went spectacularly. She's punctual, replies promptly, and truly cares about the pets she's caring for. I would highly recommend her and very likely book her again.”

“Jarrod is a kind, flexible, and attentive guy who’s very busy since he’s so trusted in this community! My baby is well taken care of in his hands while I’m away and I never have any worries.”

“What a great experience! I had Vanessa stay at my place for 5 nights with my 2 dogs and it was great. I got pictures of my girls and updates daily so communication was excellent! My girls were happy and healthy when I got home and my place was clean. Will absolutely be booking again! :)”

“Roni was a lifesaver after I had a last minute cancellation. We were able to meet and establish a dog-sitter relationship quickly and efficiently. Roni was communicative and sympathetic in a stressful moment for me. My dog, who can be slow to warm up with stranger, accepted Roni quickly. They followed instructions well and I’m excited to have such a good option next time I go on a trip.”

“Rosa was simply the best to work with. She provided constant updates and photos and gave us the best of care. I was going thru a loss in my family and Rosa gave me peace of mind knowing Shaka was being well taken care of. Couldn't have asked for a better experience. Highly recommend and would book again.”

“Vanessa looked after our three doggies for five days while we were out of town on vacation. She gave the doggies 24 hours a day attention. Highly satisfied, she was wonderful, and we will use her services again for sure. She gave us a lot of updates, photos and videos. We recommend Vanessa !!”

“Crystal was great! She took the time to make sure Tyson was comfortable with her and spent quality time with him. She left the house as she found it. We will book her again in the future. Thank you!”

“Sarah D. has been wonderful in caring for our pups and home while we travel. The relatively new dogs are still learning about their new surroundings and Sarah has been a huge help in their growth. Having someone as competent as Sara looking after our dogs is a great comfort during our travels.”

“Izayah was great, looked after the house and pup really well. Great to communicate with and super chill. Always a good sign when he comes to visit and the dog is all over him #!_ excited to see him!”

“Halle was extremely responsible and attentive to Cooper and Milo and as an added bonus, took fantastic pictures which she sent us regularly to let us know all was well. Our house can be a little tricky to take care of and Halle was a real trooper when learning everything. I highly recommend her and plan to book her first when we need house/ pet sitting again..”

“Joseph has dog sat for us several times in my home. He’s responsible, responsive and cares for the boys. He leaves the house pretty close to how he found it, which after two weeks takes real effort.”

“Sarah is fantastic!!! She is very friendly and engaging which eased my mind about leaving my dog. She sent pictures and left messages about how he was doing. We would hire Sarah again without hesitation.”

“Literally one of the best rovers I’ve ever had. He sent numerous pictures throughout the day, sent multiple updates, took care of the house and made sure to help my old pup be as comfortable as possible while I was gone. I will 100% be booking him again and as soon as I know I have plans. Thank you so much!”
“Allison took great care of our dog! Junie has separation anxiety and takes medicine every morning and night, and it was so great to know she was in good hands with Allison. We got daily updates on how everything was going, and Allison was always quick to respond to texts. Our house was also in perfect condition when we got home, with all towels and dishes washed. It’s always such a relief to find a good pet sitter, and I’m so glad we found Allison!”

“Sara was amazing with my dogs! She was super reliable, communicative, and treated them like her own. I felt totally at ease knowing they were in great hands. Highly recommend!”

Pet parents share their Rover experiences - San Diego
Sarah was so great with Rupert & Darla! She sent lots of updates and photos while we were out of country for 10 days. Responded back quickly anytime I had questions and we came back to a nice clean home, which is hard with two big dogs who shed! Thanks so much Sarah!

As novices on rover, we were quite nervous about trial-runs with new sitters. Our meet & greet with Brenda was very impressive with her extensive background in animal care, work with shelters and rescues; we quickly booked a trial-run with her for the following two days/nights. The trial-run went extremely well. Anytime we contacted her for anything, she course-corrected as requested. She was great with our fur babies, making sure they were safe, ate well and were medicated as instructed. Brenda is a great find! She is at the top of our contact list for pet care and house-sitting while we travel.

Vanessa was wonderful; from the moment she came to our meet and greet, our doggies loved her! She definitely has the calm, light yet assertive energy, which helps doggies follow instructions. She took care of our two high-energy babies, so well. My husband and I are happy we found her!!

She was wonderful! Very responsive and professional — i felt totally comfortable having her stay in my home after meeting her for only 15 minutes! He provided daily photos and updates. Total piece of mind that she was taking care of our fur babies when we traveled.

Having Jayna stay with our dog while we were out of town was a great experience! She was very communicative both before and during our trip, and was very nice about sending us regular updates and photos. She left our house perfectly clean after the weekend. We will happily have her back again!

The absolute best dog sitter around! Communicative, flexible, and makes sure the pups are well taken care of (while also having fun)! Thank you so much for taking such great care of Bourbon & Clementine! It makes me at ease to know they are in good hands every time :)

Joanna did a fantastic job with my recovering dog while I was out of town a few days. She was patient, professional, followed instructions mindfully, and communicated consistently. I did not worry while I was out of town and came home to a happy, content dog. I’ll definitely entrust my pup in Joanna’s care in the future and highly recommend her!

Eli was amazing! I am so lucky to have found him. He stayed at my home with my two pitties and took such great care of them. He was communicative, reliable, and sent detailed updates and lots of pics which I enjoyed :) my home was left in great shape. Will definitely continue to use him in the future!

Marcella was wonderful with my dog! She stayed at my house and took such great care of him. She was very responsive to my messages, kept me updated throughout my time away, and sent plenty of photos so I always knew how he was doing. I really appreciated how communicative and reliable she was, and I felt completely comfortable knowing my dog was in good hands. I would definitely recommend Marcella and would happily have her watch my dog again!

Vanessa was great! This was an initial meeting / dog sitting to see how Charlie would do in a possible longer term situation with dog sitting. She can be very hesitant with people at first so it was great to see her warm up to Vanessa so quickly! I really appreciated getting photo updates throughout the day!

Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .
As of August 2026, there are 6,603 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across San Diego. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.
Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred San Diego walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in San Diego maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in San Diego choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in San Diego. On Rover:
- 94% of sitters can help with special care needs
- 96% can help with giving oral medications or injections
- 98% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
