“What can you say about Vanessa besides the fact that she is amazing. On less than a day’s notice, she was kind enough to do a meet and greet and then house sit my pup for the week. Vanessa is extremely communicative and helpful. You’ll never have to guess about the status of your pup or home when she’s around. I felt extremely comfortable with her in my home and she even left it cleaner than she found it. I would recommend Vanessa to all of my friends and book her services again any time.”

“This was my first time using a service like Rover and I was pretty nervous about it but aleksandra came to meet me on her own time to meet the pups and introduce herself and I thought that was so professional and nice of her because it really put me at peace. She sent photos of my pups all weekend and I swear my house looks nicer than it did before I left lol. She is a wonderful caregiver for my dogs and such a nice person too. I'll be using her for sure everytime I travel.”

“This is our second time with Andrea. She house sat my 2 pups for 6 days. She did a fantastic job taking care of the house and Lola and Dale. Will definitely use again.”

“Sarah helped us watch our 3 months old puppy while we attended a wedding. She took great care of our little Malibu and sent us video update. Would recommend Sarah and will definitely book again when we’re in town. (:”

“Anna is very friendly and our dogs were very comfortable with her. She communicates well and kept our dogs and home safe while we were away. I highly recommend her and will be reaching out to her again for future dog sitting needs.”

“Rosa was simply the best to work with. She provided constant updates and photos and gave us the best of care. I was going thru a loss in my family and Rosa gave me peace of mind knowing Shaka was being well taken care of. Couldn't have asked for a better experience. Highly recommend and would book again.”

“Halle was extremely responsible and attentive to Cooper and Milo and as an added bonus, took fantastic pictures which she sent us regularly to let us know all was well. Our house can be a little tricky to take care of and Halle was a real trooper when learning everything. I highly recommend her and plan to book her first when we need house/ pet sitting again..”

“Crystal took great care of our Mini Schnauzer, house sitting for us for a week. She provided photos daily, as requested. And the house appears to be even cleaner than we left it. We will definitely request Crystal for our future doggy care needs.”

“Paige was able to watch our pup last minute when he got a mild case of Kennel Cough and we had a trip planned. She gave us updates, administered meds, and gave Finn lots of snuggles. We are SO thankful for her, and 10000% would recommended her to anyone!”

“Vanessa was absolutely amazing and I can’t recommend her enough! 🐾❤️ She kept us updated with lots of pictures, videos, and messages, which gave us so much peace of mind while we were away. What really stood out was how much she genuinely cared for our pets. 🥹 It truly felt like she loved them just as much as we do. She has such a big heart, and knowing she also volunteers with the Humane Society says so much about the kind of person she is. 🐶🐱💕 Our pets were happy, well cared for, and so loved. You can’t go wrong booking Vanessa. She is truly fantastic! ⭐️”

“Mara is incredible! She was a fantastic sitter for my pup, bringing him on adventures and taking great care of him! She was so patient with my nervous boy, which end in him giving her all of the snuggles. Mara kept me updated with photos and end of the day updates that made me feel so comfortable even though I was so far away. I will definitely utilize Mara’s services again, and I strongly recommend her to anyone who needs a sitter :)”

About: I’ve been caring for animals my whole life, and I still light up every time I meet a new friend! At home, I share my apartment with my very vocal black cat, Pinot, and an equally vocal senior Aussie/Border Collie named Eve. Both animals love making new friends! I have a flexible schedule and can easily accommodate your pet’s needs—whether that’s early mornings, late nights, medication times, or just extra snuggles and play. My place or yours, I keep tails wagging and whiskers twitching. I follow routines, respect house rules, and make sure everyone gets love, play, and full bowls.
“Darya was awesome with our old man Louie; he’s picky with food, needs help drinking water and sometimes has to go out in the middle of the night and she had no problems! Very kind and respectful of our space, already booked for anything upcoming trip! Thank you so much!”

“Our dogs who’s very nervous to be left with a new hooman was very comfortable and happy with Arlett. We were at ease on our weekend trip since we know we left our babies in good hands and we get constant photo updates too 🩷”

“Izayah was great, looked after the house and pup really well. Great to communicate with and super chill. Always a good sign when he comes to visit and the dog is all over him #!_ excited to see him!”

“Jenna was such a sweet, attentive and kind pet sitter! She gave regular updates on my sweet animals, provided plenty of photos and videos and stayed in contact. I will certainly be booking Jenna again to care for our fur babies 😊”

“Ana is fantastic pet sitter and took incredible great care of my two dogs, handling their food, medication, and gave them plenty of love and attention. They also had a chance to interact with her dog Sadie, who is extremely chill and gets along well with other dogs. She provided me with frequent updates and pictures and is my goto for rover sits.”

“Sarah is fantastic!!! She is very friendly and engaging which eased my mind about leaving my dog. She sent pictures and left messages about how he was doing. We would hire Sarah again without hesitation.”

Pet parents share their Rover experiences - San Diego
Crystal is incredible. I was worried about leaving our puppy at home while we went on vacation, but from the very start, Crystal put my mind at ease by sending me regular updates. By the time we got back, she had even taught him to sit, stay, shake, and lay down! Our dog LOVES hanging out with Crystal, and we love knowing he's in such excellent hands - I can't recommend her highly enough.
Tina was absolutely wonderful, and we're so grateful she took such great care of Bella while we were away. This was our first time leaving Bella, so we were definitely a little nervous, but Tina immediately put our minds at ease. She sent updates and photos throughout the stay, which meant so much to us. We came home to a happy, well-cared-for pup and a house that was absolutely spotless. We couldn't have asked for a better experience and would happily book Tina again. Highly recommend her to anyone looking for a trustworthy, caring house and pet sitter!

Aleksandra is absolutely incredible. She is the dog whisperer. I am a passionate Pet Mom and my pets are my universe. Leaving them for 5 days with a stranger would typically terrify me, but this was the best trip I have ever taken because I knew my pets were safe with Aleksandra. I have never had a better experience with a pet sitter. She trained my 17 week-old puppy to have better manners than when I left, and I feel like I came home to a different dog!!! Additionally, my pets have significant health issues (frenchie with IVDD, for one) and she willingly accommodated all of their special needs without a second thought. Moreso, she left my home cleaner than how I left it. I came home to a spotless house with some calming music on the TV for the pets!!! She sent tons of pictures and updates multiple times per day and not once did I feel worried or anxious about the wellbeing of my beloved pets or my home. I am blown away by this experience, and she will forever be my first stop when I need a pet sitter. THANK YOU, ALEKSANDRA!!!!!!

Marci truly went above and beyond, while caring for our dog. She kept me super updated and sent lots of photos & videos. She brought Sadie everywhere with her and really kept us in the loop which put me so at ease. At one point she took her to brunch with a dog bed and got her special food. She dealt with my anxiety kindly. She even did our laundry and dishes which was over the top nice. Highly recommend! We’ll for sure be using her again!

Highly Recommend Allison! Allison took care of three dogs for us during a recent trip, including my sister's senior dog, who has significant separation anxiety and requires daily medication. From start to finish, she was attentive, communicative, and completely trustworthy. On the first day of our trip, one of the dogs (Dexter) got sick and had multiple accidents in the house. Allison handled it calmly and responsibly, managing his care and medication needs without ever making us feel like we needed to cut our trip short. She sent us daily updates with photos, which gave us so much peace of mind while we were away. When we got home, the house was spotless and all three dogs were happy, healthy, and clearly well cared for. It takes real skill and experience to juggle multiple dogs, including one with anxiety, medication needs, and an unexpected illness, and Allison managed it all with patience and professionalism. We fully trust Allison with our dogs and wouldn't hesitate to recommend her to anyone looking for a reliable, experienced, and caring pet sitter. She was a true life saver for me.

Halle puppy sat for us 2 days in a row. She’s amazing! What we appreciated: She’s very responsive, was always on time or early, and made sure she was clear about instructions and details. Jinx is 6mo old and has some training but is still very much a work in progress. Halle has been patient and kind and we will definitely book her again as needs arise.

Kelly was wonderful and we are so grateful we found her. She was quick to respond and available last minute, which we really appreciated. This was our first time leaving our dog, so it was incredibly stressful for us. Kelly did an amazing job taking care of our girl and helping us feel more comfortable while we were away. My husband and I both work from home, so our dog is used to having us around most of the day and is not used to being alone for long periods. Kelly made sure to adapt to our dog’s schedule, routine, and needs. She sent us pictures and videos, which really helped reassure us that our dog was doing well. Kelly was flexible, attentive, and very caring toward both our dog’s needs and our concerns as anxious pet parents. Seeing how well our dog did with her gave us so much peace of mind. We are very glad we found Kelly and would definitely ask her to take care of our girl again in the future.

I was going for a brief trip out of town and Elijah was responsive and ready to help. After he came for a meet and greet with my dog, I felt confident leaving her with him. Throughout the trip, Elijah provided updates and pics. House was the same as when I left. Would definitely book again.

Austin house sit for us for 6 days to take care of our Mini Schnauzer. I can tell she really likes him and that's what matters most! He's friendly, sent photos each day, and kept our home clean. We have already booked him again for some upcoming walks. We will definitely request him again for future doggy care needs.

Sarah was awesome! She watched our dog and cat for 10 nights and you could tell they were more than comfortable with her. She made them feel very loved and she was exceptionally helpful with our dog who has bad anxiety with fireworks. She was extremely communicative and sent great pictures and updates. She even helped water all of our plants and the house was just as clean as we left it. We will definitely use Sarah again!

Andrea was absolutely incredible! My dog has extreme separation anxiety, and she went above and beyond to make him feel safe and comfortable. She stepped in at the last minute over a holiday weekend, completely saving us when we needed help most. She was attentive, reliable, communicative, and sent frequent updates and photos, which gave me so much peace of mind. She treated my dog like her own, was incredibly responsible, kept everything clean, and was always willing to help in any way she could. Andrea truly exceeded every expectation. I wholeheartedly recommend her to anyone looking for someone trustworthy, compassionate, and dependable. We are so grateful for her and will definitely book with her again!

Mara was amazing. In our initial meet and greet she asked such thoughtful questions that left us feeling very comfortable with her ability to keep our pups safe while we were gone. She was very communicative and took the cutest pictures. We’d love to have her back!

Emily took care of our 3 medium/large dogs and gave us great updates each day, that were very accurate to their personalities and shared adorable pictures of them while we were away! We felt super reassured with Emily and would love to have her watch our pups again! We came home to a clean house and happy dogs!!

FAQs for House Sitting - San Diego
Frequently asked questions about Rover
The average cost for House Sitting in San Diego on Rover is $55.5 per night (as of July 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.
Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .
As of July 2026, there are 6,646 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across San Diego. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.
Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred San Diego walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in San Diego maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in San Diego choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in San Diego. On Rover:
- 94% of sitters can help with special care needs
- 95% can help with giving oral medications or injections
- 98% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
