“Vanessa did a wonderful job taking care of our pups! I think they already miss her. She kept us in the loop and sent lots of pictures. I know they appreciated all of the walks and cuddles. I totally recommend Vanessa for any house sitting services.”
“We asked Paige to watch our pets, Zoe the cat, Goose the Golden Retriever (3yrs old) and Willow the Goldendoodle (2 yr old). Paige survived and the animals were cared for. Willow does like socks so consequently Paige lost a sock. Paige had to walk each dog separately as Goose is really strong and is very playful during walks making it more challenging while walking the other dog. Zoe the 12 yr old cat, is typically not fond of strangers and will almost never be seen. Well day one Zoe was out and greeted Paige. I told Paige she must be a cat whisperer. Anyways, Paige was keeping us updated and had everything under control as well making sure the animals were fed and lived which is all we really care about. Recommend and we will be happy to have Paige watch our pets in the future.”

“Great sitter!! She went out her way to make sure my pups were taking care of. She is very detail oriented and like a ray of sunshine. Will definitely book again and highly recommend!”

“Sarah watched our pups for us while we were out of town. She sent daily updates with the cutest pictures. Our house and pups were well taken care of. Sarah is a great communicator and I would highly recommend her.”

“Yesenia is fantastic! She cared for our kitties like they're her own. One, in particular, was going through some health challenges, and Yesenia took extra care to tend to her medication and special diet. She also played with them and kept us updated throughout, including lots of pictures.”

“Dominique took excellent care of my pups and my place. She followed the dog and house care instructions to the letter. They instantly took to her at the meet and greet. She sent tons of updates and pictures throughout the sitting. Will definitely always book her to care for my pups during any future getaways.”

“Emily has turned into a first choice for our fur baby. She makes him feel like a rockstar with walks and cuddles and play time and his own photo shoot. Emily is the main reason I believe in Rover!”

“I highly recommend Enrique as a dog and house sitter! He was incredibly attentive to my dogs, making sure they were well-cared for, walked, and happy while I was away. He kept my house spotless, which was a great bonus. Enrique also communicated frequently, sending me regular updates and photos of my dogs so I could see how well they were doing. It was clear that he genuinely cared about them, and it gave me peace of mind to know they were in such great hands. I’d absolutely trust him again for any future dog sitting needs!”

“Crystal is absolutely fantastic! She recently took care of our home, dog, and cat, and we couldn’t be more impressed with her professionalism, reliability, and genuine care. Our dog, who can be a bit shy with new people, has buddied up to her. She kept us updated with pictures and messages, which gave us complete peace of mind while I was away. Not only did she ensure our animals were happy, healthy, but she also went above and beyond to keep my house spotless and organized. It was such a relief to come home to a clean space and happy fur babies. Crystal is trustworthy, kind, and clearly has a natural connection with animals. We highly recommend her to anyone looking for someone they can depend on!”

About: Animal Lover since 1988. I’ve always had a passion for training dogs, I’ve trained my American bulldog and my red nose pit bull. DogsRus_tt !! I’m experienced with all breeds and sizes. I’m originally from Trinidad and grew up taking care of the farm animals for my parents. My passion for pet care started at a very young age as my parents were also pet lovers. My pets included dogs, rabbits, birds, fish and turtles. My responsibilities included feeding, cleaning and caring for all the animals on the farm and at home. After moving, I worked part time on the weekends as a dog walker to earn additional income. Now I’m living in Philadelphia and my love for animals brought me to the Rover app because I miss being around animals. I’m trustworthy & always punctual and always go above and beyond to make sure animals in my care feel loved and safe. I’m currently working part-time, so I’ll have a lot of time to take your pups out for walks and playtime. My boarding days are very flexible.
“Sarah is a dream! She is communicative and made us feel comfortable leaving our 7 year old golden with her without any issues at all. She’s definitely our first call going forward !”

“Will was amazing with Willow and Wick. He was timely, communicative, and reliable. He was so great even our shy cat came out to hang out with him. He even took our puppy for her first run! He sent us pictures and videos of them everyday and if we had questions throughout our trip he responded promptly to them. We will definitely be booking Will for any future things we may need with our fur babies!”

“Fantastic sitter! Super nice, very professional, and took care of our little ones expertly. I love that she sent multiple videos as updates. I could tell they were having a really good time 😁”

“Jackie was so amazing! She gave my babies their medicine and cleaned them daily. Very respectful and kind. She sent pictures daily and watched my cats for just about 2 weeks. I’d definitely book her again if needed!”

Whether your dog needs a quick potty break, an energy-burning walk, or extra attention while you’re away, my goal is to make sure they feel safe, comfortable, and cared for. I have been around dogs my whole life, all ages and love all from the young energetic puppies to the elderly who may need medicine and extra attention. What sets me apart is communication and consistency. I provide regular updates, photos, and detailed summaries so you always know how your pet is doing. I take the time to learn each dog’s personality, routines, and preferences because every pet is different. I’m currently working a part time flexible schedule so pet care fits in at all times! Eileengrace cared for our for dogs and home and was amazing! She was available last minute and even squeezed in a requested meet and greet before we left. Her communication is great, she is eager to learn about your pet(s), and follows through. Overall, she is genuinely kind, polite, and most of all, the dogs loved her!

Crystal is incredible. I was worried about leaving our puppy at home while we went on vacation, but from the very start, Crystal put my mind at ease by sending me regular updates. By the time we got back, she had even taught him to sit, stay, shake, and lay down! Our dog LOVES hanging out with Crystal, and we love knowing he's in such excellent hands - I can't recommend her highly enough.
Arianna was absolutely wonderful with our dog! From the moment we met her, we could tell she genuinely loves animals and would treat our pup like one of her own. She was reliable, communicative, and kept us updated with messages and photos throughout the stay, which gave us so much peace of mind. We wouldn’t hesitate to book with Arianna again and highly recommend her to anyone looking for a trustworthy, caring, and dependable dog sitter. Thank you for taking such great care of our boy!
Mara was amazing. In our initial meet and greet she asked such thoughtful questions that left us feeling very comfortable with her ability to keep our pups safe while we were gone. She was very communicative and took the cutest pictures. We’d love to have her back!

Monica was fantastic! We needed a sitter for a few hours while we were visiting San Diego and staying at the Hotel Del Coronado. Our pup instantly liked her, which is fairly unusual. Lots of updates, photos and videos. Will use her again the next time we’re in town! Highly recommend for helicopter dog parents 😆

Abigail took care of our highly reactive dog and did a terrific job when we went away for the holidays. She sent pictures daily and kept us updated on how he was doing. Teddy can be difficult with new people and she was patient and let him warm up to her. We are so appreciative. We highly recommend and will use her again.

As of July 2026, there are 6,289 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across National City. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.
Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred National City walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in National City maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in National City choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in National City. On Rover:
- 93% of sitters can help with special care needs

- 98% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
