Maria was amazing! She took great care of our three babies- and I know it can be a challenge with 2 senior dogs and a puppy with a lot of energy. She took them all on walks, played with and when we came home she had comforting dog music playing for them. She was very communicative, sent lots of pics of our buddies walking playing and sleeping. The house was immaculate when we returned. Highly recommend!

About: Hello! I'm Charlie I've been working for over 15 years taking care of children and on occasion, pets. I'm hoping to add more animals to my life as I am finishing my RN-BSN, the stress relief and excuse to get outside that furry friends offer is immeasurable! I have over 10 years of experience caring for dogs as an occasional sitter/walker and home co-habitant and have had a wonderful feisty cat for over 14 years. (She stays at home unless otherwise specified) I have the most experience with middle aged to older dogs, and manage to win over even the most tentative of furry family members. (I'm also shy, so I attribute it to mutual awkwardness.) I have experience giving eye drops, disguising medication's as treats (or convincing stubbon animals to take medication) and I am experienced in giving injections. I'm more comfortable and experienced with medium and larger dogs , cats of all sizes and temperaments (but i will not turn down the opportunity to make a small dog, bunny, scaley or feathered friend!) . I've experienced some mischievous puppy antics that have led to my finding out that I can keep level headed in an emergency. As I mentioned above, I work in childcare, so I have experience performing work unsupervised in other peoples' homes, am a nurse working on my BSN (so background checks are no issue) and can provide necessary references if requested to ensure my trustworthiness. Please feel free to contact me with any questions you may have about me and my experience. Thank you. I'm currently in school part-time for my BSN while searching for new grad RN positions and helping out with a local nursing association. I have a flexible schedule and can often work around your needs. I usually housesit In a client's home while they are away, but am open to drop-ins. I try and follow a furry friend's routine as closely as possible and if I can't on a day, I make sure that they always get enough potty breaks and adjust walks accordingly. I do tend to take the longest walks in the AM (30-45 min) + before bed (30-1 hr) with shorter 15-30 min "potty" walks during the day . I take into account their needs (feeding/medication/b&b evacuation times) & normal excursion times and my schedule and plan the week out in advance. Written instructions help me with daily tasks or pet personality quirks if they are more set in their ways. I'm happy to water plants, gather mail, take out trash and am comfortable communicating with vendors (repair, pest control etc) if they need to visit when you are away. I treat the home better than I treat my own and aim to maintain (or exceed) the level of cleanliness that existed when I arrived. I'm not shy when it comes to vacuuming, laundering linens & pet bedding as needed while I am staying.

Brooke was absolutely wonderful!!! Leaving our 7-year-old Japanese Akita with someone new was a big decision for us, but Brooke exceeded all of our expectations. She took the time to build trust with Eoshi, and it was clear from her updates that she genuinely cared about his well-being. When we returned home, Eoshi was happy, relaxed, and clearly well cared for. He ate well, enjoyed plenty of walks, and seemed completely comfortable with Brooke. We were especially happy to see that they developed such a great bond while we were away. Brooke also took exceptional care of our home. Everything was spotless when we returned, and she even started a load of laundry with the bed linens before leaving, which was such a thoughtful gesture. We couldn’t have asked for a better sitter and would absolutely trust Brooke with Eoshi again in the future. Highly recommend!

About: I've had dogs my entire life, and caring for them has always been a big part of who I am. As a lifelong dog owner, I understand that every dog has unique needs, routines, and personalities. My own dog is now a senior and can't enjoy the long walks and hikes we used to take together, so I'd love the opportunity to spend that time with other dogs who still enjoy those adventures. I've been caring for neighbors', family friends', and relatives' dogs since I was young, giving me experience with dogs of all ages and temperaments. I've also helped with puppy training and understand the importance of consistency, patience, and positive reinforcement. I'm flexible, dependable, and detail-oriented. Whether your dog needs a strict routine followed closely or a customized schedule based on their individual needs, I'll make sure they receive attentive, loving care. My goal is to treat every dog like my own and give owners peace of mind while they're away. My schedule is very flexible, which allows me to provide dependable and attentive care for your pets. I work part-time both from home and at a local coffee shop, but my shifts are typically only about four hours long. This makes it easy for me to accommodate morning, afternoon, and evening visits, walks, and check-ins. I enjoy staying active and spending time outdoors, so I’m happy to fit pet care into my daily routine and give your pets the attention, exercise, and companionship they deserve. When caring for pets, my top priorities are safety, comfort, and maintaining their normal routine. For house sitting, drop-in visits, and dog walking, I carefully follow all instructions regarding feeding schedules, medications, exercise needs, and household rules. I understand that every pet has a unique personality and comfort level, so I take time to build trust and make sure they feel secure while you are away. I also provide regular updates, photos, and communication so you can have peace of mind knowing your pet is happy, safe, and well cared for in their own familiar environment.

About: Hi, I'm Eda! I've been caring for animals for as long as I can remember. My grandpa had a beautiful farm in Temecula, where I grew up helping care for dogs, cats, chickens, goats, ducks, and even one very mean buck. From an early age, I also looked after my neighbors' pets, and I loved every minute of it. My family is from Turkey, where there's a deep appreciation for animals, especially dogs and cats. In my culture, animals are considered part of the family, and that's exactly how I've always treated them. That mindset has stayed with me throughout my life. I'm the friend who always finds the pet at the party, stops to admire every dog on a walk (with permission, of course), and can't resist saying hello to my neighborhood cat. I genuinely enjoy getting to know each animal's unique personality and making them feel safe, comfortable, and loved. Whether your pet is energetic and playful or prefers a quiet companion, I'll care for them with patience, attention, and lots of affection. My goal is for you to feel completely at ease knowing your pet is in kind, reliable hands. Pet care fits naturally into my daily routine because I have a flexible schedule and work part-time from home. This allows me to dedicate plenty of time and attention to the animals in my care, whether they need regular walks, playtime, feeding, enrichment, or simply some extra companionship throughout the day. I provide a safe, clean, and comfortable environment for every pet in my care. I work from home part-time, giving me flexibility to provide attention, supervision, and companionship throughout the day. I follow each owner’s instructions closely, including routines, feeding schedules, exercise needs, and crate preferences. I treat every pet and home with the same care and respect I would want for my own.

Crystal was terrific with our 2 dogs - I think they were disappointed when we came home. This is our first time using Rover, and Crystal had positive reviews from other pet owners, and we can't agree more. She was friendly and accommodating with us, and she had a genuine enthusiasm and affinity with our dogs. During our trip, she sent texts, photos, and videos. Our minds were eased as we saw how happy our dogs were with her. We were able to relax and enjoy our short vacation knowing that they were safe and genuinely well-cared for by Crystal.

Mariah was truly amazing. I was gone for 5 days and my dog started coughing seriously the 3rd day. She kept me informed by text including video, and, on her own contacted the Rover veterinarian (I didn't now there is one!) for advice which was very helpful. We ultimately decided she should take him to Urgent Care which she did willingly. She sat with the vet while they called me on the phone and she made very clear notes for me to use on my return. Mariah was up with Joey in the middle of the night for two nights - and after visiting Urgent Care, she gave him medicine at 3AM. And, when I talked to her, she seemed much more concerned with interrupting my vacation than that she was losing sleep and having to do more than expected. She sounded so loving to Joey the entire time - and thought her way through a number of possibilities to relieve Joey's distress. AND when she left, she had washed the sheets and towels and the house was as clean as when I left. I could not have expected more from anyone. She was absolutely terrific - and I am so grateful.

FAQs for House Sitting - La Mesa

Frequently asked questions about Rover

The average cost for House Sitting in La Mesa on Rover is $61.15 per night (as of August 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.

Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .

As of August 2026, there are 6,343 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across La Mesa. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:

  • Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
  • Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
  • Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
  • Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.

The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred La Mesa walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.

It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in La Mesa maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:

  • Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
  • Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
  • Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.

Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!

Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in La Mesa choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!

The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.

All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.

Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.

Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .

If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.

For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.

Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.

A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.

Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.

Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.

If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
