Anna was a great help to all of us when she cared for our pups… CC & Gus. She was good with both dogs, kept them happy and safe plus well fed. She seemed to enjoy her time with them and sent pictures. She stayed with them while we were gone a couple of days which made it possible for us to enjoy our time since we knew the dogs were well taken care of. Thanks Anna!

Our flight got cancelled and Maria came to the rescue! One of our two dogs is very nervous and it is always scary for us to have someone walking into the home without us there. But because they know and love Maria, we knew that our dogs were in good hands when she stayed with them for a few hours when our trip home was delayed. How they react to her is a good indication of the care that she gives them.

About: I’ve actually had all kinds of pets my whole life, dogs, cats, fish, bunnies, hamsters, turtles so I can confidently say I’m attentive to each one’s personality, habits, needs. I’ve welcomed many stray dogs and cats into my home to care for them and feed them and rehome them. I’ve potty/litter trained countless times and I can train them for meal times, to sit or give paw(dogs), to not scratch the couch(cats). In the last 4 years in particular, family members have asked me to pop by and check on and feed their babies. One household has two very loving and hyper dogs ages 2 & 3 yrs old that have a specific diet and meal times. They are potty trained outside so I walk them 2-3x a day depending on the hours I watch them. Second household has one 14 yr old dog and a 2 yr old cat, also with their own diets and meal times. The dog uses pee pads as she’s older and potty trained outside as well. Third household has 7 cats that range from 1 yr old to 7 yrs old. They’re all more free spirited and independent as they look after each other, they all eat at the same time and have indoor and outdoor privileges. I currently have full and open availability. I’d love to gain more experience looking after pets. My cat is very independent and clean, as long as I feed him in the morning and evening and keep his litter box clean, he’s a very good boy. It gives me the confidence to be able to help someone else with their fur babies either for work or trips. I can do from simply check-ins or stay in nights at a time with them. Im super flexible. As of right now, unfortunately I don’t have the proper space to bring others pets in ): but I am more than dependable and respectful to care for furbabies in their own home. Anything from simple and winging it to a list of instructions, your furbaby won’t see me as an intruder, but as their company.

William was so great with the dogs! We asked him to house sit and to be with the dogs for a few days. He came by a couple of days before we left to get familiar with them, so they'd be comfortable. He sent updates in the morning and night and said that he played with the dogs a lot. I could see that the pups really enjoyed/benefitted from having him around. He's a pretty cool dude and we'll definitely be asking him to dog sit in the future! 10/10 would recommend.

About: With over 25 years of hands-on experience caring for dogs and cats, I’ve worked with breeds of all sizes and personalities—from Rottweilers, Mastiffs and Pit Bulls to French Bulldogs, Australian Shepherds, English Bulldogs and many others. I have a special passion for working with dogs that others may be hesitant to care for, including large breeds, strong personalities and reactive or misunderstood dogs. As someone who understands the challenges of owning these incredible pets, I provide patient, confident and compassionate care without judgment. To me, pets are family and I treat every animal as if they were my own. I’m experienced in caring for senior pets and those with special needs, including administering medications, following detailed care instructions and maintaining consistent feeding and medication schedules. Whether your pet is energetic, anxious, aging or simply needs extra attention I’m committed to providing a safe, loving and reliable experience while you’re away. I’m available for 30–60 minute midday drop-in visits on weekdays, as well as after 4:30 PM on weekdays. I’m available all day on weekends. My weekday schedule is somewhat flexible and I’m happy to work with clients to accommodate their pets’ needs whenever possible. I understand that inviting someone into your home and trusting them with your beloved pet is a big decision. I treat every home with the same respect and care I would expect for my own. I’ll follow your pet’s routine, feeding schedule, exercise needs and any special instructions to help them feel safe and comfortable while you’re away. Your pet’s safety and well-being are always my top priorities. I’ll provide plenty of love, attention, playtime and companionship while ensuring your home remains clean, secure and exactly as you left it. Brooke was absolutely wonderful!!! Leaving our 7-year-old Japanese Akita with someone new was a big decision for us, but Brooke exceeded all of our expectations. She took the time to build trust with Eoshi, and it was clear from her updates that she genuinely cared about his well-being. When we returned home, Eoshi was happy, relaxed, and clearly well cared for. He ate well, enjoyed plenty of walks, and seemed completely comfortable with Brooke. We were especially happy to see that they developed such a great bond while we were away. Brooke also took exceptional care of our home. Everything was spotless when we returned, and she even started a load of laundry with the bed linens before leaving, which was such a thoughtful gesture. We couldn’t have asked for a better sitter and would absolutely trust Brooke with Eoshi again in the future. Highly recommend!

About: I provide reliable, attentive care to help your pet feel safe, comfortable, and loved while you’re away. I have experience with puppies and senior pets, including basic training support, structured routines, gentle senior care, and medication reminders when needed. I focus on keeping your pet’s routine consistent and stress-free, and I always treat them like my own. You’ll also receive regular updates and photos so you can feel confident they’re happy and well cared for. Pet care fits naturally into my daily routine because I build my schedule around feeding, walks, potty breaks, playtime, and rest. I make sure pets stay on their normal routine as much as possible and get consistent attention throughout the day. Living near a lake and a grass area in my apartment complex also makes it easy to provide regular exercise and outdoor time. In my home, pets are cared for in a calm, clean, and safe apartment environment with plenty of attention and structure. I live right next to a lake and have access to a grass field within my apartment complex, which is great for regular walks, potty breaks, and exercise. I make sure pets get consistent routines, playtime, and rest based on their needs, whether they’re energetic puppies or slower-paced senior pets. In a client’s home, I follow their established routine closely to help pets feel comfortable in their familiar environment. I always prioritize safety, cleanliness, and clear communication, and I provide regular updates so owners know how their pet is doing.

About: I have grown up with dogs my entire life so I’m very familiar with long walks playtime, feeding administering medication and most importantly love and comfortability. I hate to say it, but my dogs are spoiled like they are my own children so my Doberman is my son and my cocker spaniel mix is my daughter and I do refer to them that way 😂 I can’t wait for them to have a bunch of doggy cousins! My work weeks are pretty flexible. I go into work for a minimal amount of time. I have dogs of my own so I don’t like to keep them home alone for long. Our days are filled with cat naps long walks. They are free roaming animals so they’re welcome on the furniture and the bed. There is an outdoor patio area that is turfed that my own dogs enjoy . They are feed once in the morning once in the evening. My Doberman is also spent doing mental stimulation and training so I’m happy to teach your dog a few new tricks also :)

About: Hi! I’m a reliable, attentive dog lover with over 10 years of hands-on experience caring for dogs of all sizes, breeds, and temperaments. My experience includes working with Border Collies and Great Pyrenees in a ranch setting, where they herded and guarded sheep, as well as providing professional care at a busy dog daycare. I also have extensive experience caring for large-breed family dogs. Whether your dog is energetic, shy, young, or a senior, I believe every pet deserves patience, consistency, and individualized care. My goal is to make every walk or visit a positive experience so you can have complete peace of mind knowing your best friend is safe, happy, and well cared for. Thanks for stopping by my profile! I work part-time caring for dogs professionally, so spending time with animals is something I genuinely enjoy every day. I’m available all day on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays. I may also be available on my workdays depending on my schedule. I appreciate at least 24 hours’ notice whenever possible so I can plan my day and give your pet the time and attention they deserve. Whether your companion is energetic and playful or prefers a slower pace, I’m happy to tailor my care to their individual personality and routine. I look forward to meeting you and your furry family member! One of my favorite parts of pet care is getting to know each animal’s unique personality, communication style, and routines so they feel comfortable and understood. Every dog is different, so my first priority is building trust. When we first meet, I give each dog the time and space they need while I observe their personality, body language, and comfort level. From there, I adjust my approach to match what helps them feel safe and confident. I believe in treating every dog with kindness, respect, and clear boundaries. I use positive reinforcement—including praise, encouragement, and treats when appropriate—to reinforce good behavior. Rather than relying on punishment, I focus on redirecting unwanted behaviors and setting dogs up for success in a calm, consistent way. Whether we’re playing at home or out on a walk, safety always comes first. I enjoy interactive play while maintaining a safe environment, and I tailor each walk to the individual dog. Some dogs are happiest walking calmly at my side, while others enjoy taking the lead, and I’m happy to adapt to what is safest and most comfortable for them. My goal is simple: to make every dog feel secure, understood, and genuinely excited to spend time with me. When I enter a dog’s home, I remember that I’m stepping into their familiar space. My first priority is helping them feel safe and comfortable with my presence. I allow each dog to approach at their own pace, paying close attention to their body language and personality so I can build trust before asking anything of them. Once a dog is comfortable, I love engaging them through safe, interactive play that matches their energy level and preferences. Whether it’s a game of fetch, tug, enrichment activities, or simply relaxing together, my goal is to provide both physical exercise and positive companionship while maintaining clear, consistent boundaries. I strive to leave every dog feeling secure, respected, and excited to see me again. I want you to have peace of mind knowing your pet is not only well cared for, but genuinely enjoying our time together. I don’t expect dogs to adapt to me—I adapt to the dog while providing clear, consistent boundaries.

After years of searching for a trustworthy, personable, and knowledgeable in-home pet sitter, we are so grateful to have found Anna. Anna is dependable, caring, and has all the skills needed to confidently care for multiple dogs. From the moment she met our pups, she formed an immediate connection with each of them, despite their very different personalities, preferences, and obedience levels. It's clear that she genuinely loves animals, and they love her right back. We truly can't say enough wonderful things about Anna—although we'd rather not praise her too much because we'd love to keep her all to ourselves! FAQs for House Sitting - La Mesa

Frequently asked questions about Rover

The average cost for House Sitting in La Mesa on Rover is $61.15 per night (as of August 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.

Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .

As of August 2026, there are 6,343 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across La Mesa. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:

  • Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
  • Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
  • Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
  • Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.

The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred La Mesa walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.

It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in La Mesa maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:

  • Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
  • Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
  • Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.

Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!

Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in La Mesa choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!

The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.

All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.

Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.

Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .

If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.

For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.

Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.

A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.

Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.

Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.

If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.

Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in La Mesa. On Rover:

  • 93% of sitters can help with special care needs
  • 96% can help with giving oral medications or injections
  • 98% can help with daily exercise

You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.

Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
