“My husband and I just moved to the San Diego area a month ago and I was having anxiety about finding a pet sitter. I was told about Rover and so I thought I would give it a try...my initial experience was very unsettling to say the least, I booked with 2 sitters and they both cancelled, the one cancelled last minute right before my trip, so with 2 strikes already I was hesitant to try for a third time and then I came across Erica and I was very happy with her from the meet and greet to her taking care of my fur babies. She is very professional and clearly has a love for taking care of my babies and they were very excited to see her, I will definitely being using her again and recommend to those are are looking for pet care...she is great!!!!”

“Tally was great with my chocolate lab who has separation anxiety. She was attentive and gave him lots of love and hugs. My house was immaculate when I came home after a 4 day trip. Highly recommend Tally!”

“Janet house sat and watched our crazy 5.5 month old puppy and our 13 year old dog while we were on vacation. She stayed at our house and every day she sent us updates and pics of our girls. Our older dog takes quite a few meds and Janet was diligent with all of them. Our neighbors reported seeing lots of walks and attention. The girls were looking happy and well when we got home. Our home was clean as well. We would definitely book Janet to stay with the girls again!”
“Our flight got cancelled and Maria came to the rescue! One of our two dogs is very nervous and it is always scary for us to have someone walking into the home without us there. But because they know and love Maria, we knew that our dogs were in good hands when she stayed with them for a few hours when our trip home was delayed. How they react to her is a good indication of the care that she gives them.”

“Courtney did a great job with our typically anxious dog. She came over to meet us earlier in the day, arrived early for her assigned time and bonded well with our pup. She sent us multiple photos and a video throughout her evening of dog sitting him. Looking forward to booking her again in the future.”

“We knew Danielle would be wonderful from the moment we met her when she first came over. She took wonderful care of our kitties and updated us frequently to let us know how they were doing. She is obviously a pro since both of them became more friendly towards her. We highly recommend Danielle to take care of your loved creatures and every time we need someone she will be the first one we call.”

“She is amazing! Great communication and responsible. Would have her take care of our pups again anytime. She sends lots of pictures throughout the stay and our dogs loved her.”

“Chris was excellent. Daily updates, great photos, and went above and beyond without being asked. House was spotless, and our dogs were happy.....that says everything. We’ll definitely hire him again.”

“Bobbie S is an amazing dog sitter. She took such good care of our dogs and followed our instructions to the letter. Our dogs were in such a relaxed and happy mood when we returned just as if we had been there ourselves. 6/5 stars.”

About: I absolutely love taking care of my dogs and I treat any pets just as I do my own. I was especially drawn to Rover after long-term dog sitting these 2 wonderful Dobermans, it made me want to create even more special bonds just like that. I am genuinely so happy spending time around animals… I have always taken up dog sitting opportunities for family or friends and now I would like to extend my love out to your pets as well!🩷🫂 I am dedicated to giving your pup the best care possible. I am super flexible and currently offering dog walking, drop in visits, and house sitting during the week and on weekends!! Check my calendar for specific availability. I am used to incorporating 1-3 dogs + a cat into a daily routine (for several years). I really enjoy long walks and playing outside or even napping with my dogs. I have unconditional love ready to give to any pet… you are doing me a favor by allowing me the opportunity to get to know and love your fur baby🥹🫶 I will always make sure that your pet and I are both respectful of house rules while still having fun. I do try to work on small behavioral training such as sit and stay on a daily basis. I will always be on top of it to make sure your dog stays on schedule and give endless cuddles so they stay happy as well.
About: I’ve been a vet assistant for over 20 years. I have been a pet sitter back in New Jersey. It’s what I love to do. Pet sitting is what I love to do. Rover gives me the flexibility to make my own schedule. Giving me the opportunity to give lots of love and attention to your fur baby or babies! I am only able to care for pets at clients houses as I do not have a fenced in back yard. I feel when dogs and cats stay in their own home they are more comfortable.
“Emily did a great job with our dogs for a week over the Christmas holiday. She provided daily photo updates and cleaner the room and bathroom she stayed in before we returned. We are appreciative of her care and attention to Rosie and Wesley!”

“Sarah was very responsive and kind and took great care of our pets and home. I’m very grateful for her communication and reliability, which gave me peace while we were away. Thank you, Sarah!”

“Angie took great care of Ziggy while we were away for almost two weeks. She took him on lots of walks and sent us pictures and videos every day, which we really appreciated and helped us feel comfortable knowing he was happy and well cared for. Ziggy seemed to really enjoy his time with her, and we came home to a happy pup! Would definitely book Angie again in the future!”

About: I have never known a life without a pet of some kind. Having animals, I learned very early on the importance of responsibility as well as empathy for the feelings and lives of others. Just as we pay attention to human body language for cues, the same standard comes into play for animals. Because they can’t speak like we do, it is important to be attentive as well as respectful of their needs. I have 10+ years of experience from not only my own array of pets (dogs, geckos, horses, chickens, ratties, cats, etc), but also from my main line of work. I have been an in home nursing assistant for 5 years, beginning with taking care of my great grandmother and her dog in her home which blossomed into the career I know and love today. My integrity and compassion for both animals and humans has led to many opportunities for me. From walking dogs for neighbors and friends, grooming assistance, occasional medical assistance, Overnight sitting/boarding, and even small excursions for enrichment, all the way down to childcare in some cases. I am a child at heart and with animals, my spirit is at play. they bring just as much joy to my life as I hope to bring to theirs. I’d love to treat your furrever baby like my own while you’re away 🤍 I am currently taking a break from my human patients and putting more emphasis on building my animal care portfolio. I’d like to become a pet sitter/walker full time while back in school. I am able to provide A well enriched and attentive home with lots of toys and attention to offer. There is a park less than 5 minutes walking distance as well that I’d be happy to take your pet to visit for potty breaks and play, should that be okay with you. I don’t particularly like to crate dogs, however, if that is their safe space or they happen to be crate trained that’s no issue at all/is appreciated if they do not do well being left alone for an hour or so at a time. Communication is key and you will always be contacted should anything of concern arise.
The median cost per night for house sitting in Homelands is $63
Pet parents share their Rover experiences - Homelands
Sarah was so good with my dog, Bubba! He absolutely loved having her stay with him over the weekend. She sent updates so I didn’t have to feel anxious while being away from him. I came back home and the house was clean and she made sure Bubba had eaten and been let out before she left. Overall, I would highly recommend Sarah!

We had an amazing experience with Stephanie! She stayed at our house for an entire week and took such wonderful care of all of our animals. We felt completely at ease knowing they were in such caring and capable hands while we were away. She was reliable, attentive, communicative, and treated our pets and our home as if they were her own. It gave us so much peace of mind to know everyone was being so well cared for. We would absolutely trust Stephanie to care for them again and highly recommend her to anyone looking for a dependable and loving pet sitter!

Jenny took amazing care about Fredo and was very communicative during the whole process. She was even able to extend her stay on a short moment's notice. She took extra special care of the house and I would highly recommend her to anyone looking for responsible and reliable dog/house sitter.

Crystal was terrific with our 2 dogs - I think they were disappointed when we came home. This is our first time using Rover, and Crystal had positive reviews from other pet owners, and we can't agree more. She was friendly and accommodating with us, and she had a genuine enthusiasm and affinity with our dogs. During our trip, she sent texts, photos, and videos. Our minds were eased as we saw how happy our dogs were with her. We were able to relax and enjoy our short vacation knowing that they were safe and genuinely well-cared for by Crystal.

Bobbie was a fantastic house and pup sitter. She was very attentive to my young Australian Shepherd and ensured he was engaged and cared for while I was out of town. She is also an excellent communicator and left my residence in excellent shape for my return. I would absolutely recommend and hire her again!

Mariah was truly amazing. I was gone for 5 days and my dog started coughing seriously the 3rd day. She kept me informed by text including video, and, on her own contacted the Rover veterinarian (I didn't now there is one!) for advice which was very helpful. We ultimately decided she should take him to Urgent Care which she did willingly. She sat with the vet while they called me on the phone and she made very clear notes for me to use on my return. Mariah was up with Joey in the middle of the night for two nights - and after visiting Urgent Care, she gave him medicine at 3AM. And, when I talked to her, she seemed much more concerned with interrupting my vacation than that she was losing sleep and having to do more than expected. She sounded so loving to Joey the entire time - and thought her way through a number of possibilities to relieve Joey's distress. AND when she left, she had washed the sheets and towels and the house was as clean as when I left. I could not have expected more from anyone. She was absolutely terrific - and I am so grateful.
Alexis was amazing! I've always done check-ins and never used house-sitting, and Alexis was so helpful and responsive during the booking process, along with the meet-and-greet and planning process. She also communicated frequently during my trip, and as a bonus, she made a gorgeous drawing of my sweet pup, and left it as a surprise. My next house/pet sitter WILL be her!

I am so thankful for Christine's care. She is very kind, communicative, and reliable. When I needed someone last minute, she was ready to go and super helpful. Christine made my dog feel reassured and loved while I've been away. Thank you so much for all your care💖

This was the first time we used Jasmine as a dog sitter and the only thing I wish would be different is that we’d found her sooner. We were in a pinch with time, booking close to the last minute, but Jasmine came through amazingly. She was prompt to the meet and greet and asked great questions, listened and was clear in her communication. While we were gone, she gave us updates and let us know if anything happened of note. Our dog had an upset tummy and we were able to work through it and she got him feeling better soon. She also took great care of our house. Hope we get her to watch our pup again!!

Justine is very professional, caring and thorough. She took excellent care of Danso and followed all instructions perfectly. She went above and beyond and i felt more than comfortable with time she spend watching after Danso and my house. She sent lots of detailes updates with pictures and video. Highly recommend and will be booking her again.

Frequently asked questions about Rover
The average cost for House Sitting in Homelands on Rover is $53.5 per night (as of September 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.
Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Homelands walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Homelands maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Homelands choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Homelands. On Rover:
- 93% of sitters can help with special care needs
- 96% can help with giving oral medications or injections
- 98% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
