“We had a fantastic experience with our Dustin! Communication was excellent from start to finish, and he kept us updated with amazing photos of Leo every day, which gave us so much peace of mind while we were away. He took Leo to the park every day, gave him several long walks, and even spent time playing with him inside the house to keep him happy and engaged. It was clear that Leo was well cared for and getting plenty of attention and exercise. When we returned, the house was spotless, which was such a thoughtful bonus. We couldn't have asked for better care for Leo or our home. We would absolutely book with him again and highly recommend him to anyone looking for a reliable, caring, and professional dog sitter!”

“Bridgette watched my pup while i was gone for the holidays. She did everything that was asked of her and made sure to check in with me if she had questions. She sent pictures of my doggo too! Great gal!”

“Josette is our go-to sitter for our pup Lou. She is wonderful with Lou and he is always so excited to see her. She has stayed in our home for multiple nights and everything is always tip-top when we return. She is the best and we feel fortunate to have found Josette.”

“Kendall was fantastic, incredibly communicative and responsive. We received feedback from our neighbors that it looked like Kendall and our dog were having the time of their lives!”

“Dina and Jose are amazing pet sitters. Dina was very communicative and sent great updates and photos daily. She really made me feel confident that everything was under control while we were gone. One of our dogs is usually quite anxious, but he seemed totally comfortable with them and was super relaxed when we got home. The house was clean when we got home. They even washed the sheets and took care of our trash cans so we didn't have to worry about it. I so appreciate them caring for our pets!”

“Yue is incredibly professional, highly communicative and very responsible. I felt completely at ease with her in my home taking care of Whisky and was able to truly relax on my vacation because of her.”

“Desiree was obsessed with our dog and cats in the best way possible. Tons of lovely photos and updates on how they were adjusting to our absence. She even wanted to take our pup to the beach since it was so hot out to give him a break from the weather. We had to leave at a time of crisis for our family and she gave the sweetest leave behind of our puppies paw prints arts and crafted into flowers. 10/10 highly recommend.”

“Lizzie did a purrrrfect job taking care of Abby. She's very reliable, and you should consider booking through her for your next vacation or weekend away. I would absolutely trust her to care for my cat again!!”

“Rachel was amazing! She was very sweet. She was right on time, our dog Nemo loved her and she was great about providing updates and pictures (all updates and photos were sent about once an hour, which was very frequent!). Our dog cuddled right up to her and felt very comfortable with her.”

About: 1 dog at a time= tons of personalized attention. Dogs love our fenced in backyard and the nature trail right by our house that we love to walk them on! (We do accept two dogs from the same dog family/home). I love animals and your pet will receive tons of attention and love from our family. Dogs are welcome on our couch. Lots of attention, nature walks and snuggles. I love walking so your pet will receive multiple walks a day! We do not currently have a pet of our own in our home. We have lots of experience owning our own dogs and taking care of friends and family dogs and now Rover dogs! I have also fostered many rescue dogs. I will be the primary caregiver (I work part-time so lots of time for your dog. I strongly prefer dog sitting to substitute teaching, so I am happy to either stay home or only take half day jobs. I will either be home with the dog or occasionally gone for up to 4-5 hours). Our 12 year old son has lots of love and cuddles to give! (Myself or my husband will always be in charge, holding leash of your dog, my son will just be cuddling and playing- at all times supervised by us). We prefer pets that can be crated while we are not at home. Happy to have a quick phone call if you have any questions or if you want to meet us happy to set up a meet n greet! Note: -For Thanksgiving & Christmas Break only due to the high demand and my husband (teacher) will be home over the break we will be taking 2 dogs max as we will have time to walk them separately if necessary and both be home. * if the stay is 7 nights or more and you need your dog to be the only one we could make an exception for an extended stay feel free to reach out. 1 spot is filled for Thanksgiving 1 spot left. *We have a nature trail right by our house with your permission we could walk it. * We have experience with keeping dogs separate from other dogs if needed. *I would not take your dog to a dog park or anywhere with unleashed dogs unless you requested it. *we will ask for you to send us a copy of vet records ahead of time showing up to date on rabies & fleas & tick protection etc. *we use non-toxic cleaning supplies and filter water so premium experience for your dog! * I will ask you what your dogs typical routine/schedule is and try to stick as close as possible to keep your dog in its routine. I prefer to have an in person meet n greet but if it is last minute at least a brief phone call to find out the max info about your pet! Feel free to ask me about add-ons such as bathing/grooming (depends on the size of dog) and photography packages. (photos on Rover are included - some of my photographs have been so good that owners have asked for copies of the photos to blow up so there will be an extra small charge for rights to my photos:) always happy to have a brief phone call to go over any questions! I’m currently working part time so I have lots of time for your pet! I love walking so your pet will receive lots of walks! We currently can only accept pets that can be crated while we are not at home. Happy to have a quick phone call if you have any questions or if you want to meet me happy to set up. I do have a fenced in yard. I’m currently working part time so I have lots of time for your pet! I love walking so your pet will receive lots of walks! “Dawn was an amazing house sitter. I highly recommend her. She is very responsible and great at communication. She took excellent care of our dogs Leeloo and Lucy, and her pup Coqui was great company for our girls. Most importantly, I didn't worry for a minute of our trip--the peace of mind was priceless.”

April is absolutely amazing ! 12/10 gave our dogs and home so much love and care while we had a long trip and it couldn’t have been better. She loves dogs so much and was on top of my dogs meds and giving them what they need. We really hope to have April watch our fur babies again and put home as she was excellent 😍

We had such a wonderful experience with Bridgette! She was incredibly responsive, respectful, and attentive, and she took such great care of our dogs. From the beginning, she made us feel completely comfortable and confident leaving our pups in her care, which gave us so much peace of mind. We truly appreciated how dependable and caring she was, and we would absolutely book her again in the future!

Josette did a great job with our 2 dogs who are stranger adverse. She was patient and meet them where they were at. She also watched are cats during the same stay. Josette sent detailed messages on how all of them were doing. Excited to have a pet sitter I can book when future travel comes up. Strongly recommend.

Josie was AMAZING, and we would recommend her to anyone. She was incredibly patient and gentle with our verrryyyy anxious pup, and she bonded with her quickly, which is no small feat. We felt completely comfortable the entire time Josie was watching our dog and our home. She maintained great communication and sent photos to keep us in the loop, which was greatly appreciated. Josie even accommodated a very last-minute change to help us out, and we're so grateful for her!!

Rachel was amazing! She was really sweet and easy to talk to. Nemo was extremely comfortable with her and we received tons of photos! Rachel also played a treat scavenger hunt around the apartment with Nemo which he loved. We will definitely be booking with her again.

We recently used Gina this past week for a one week stay with our 27lb bernedoodle. In a word – she was wonderful. Gina was very communicative, sending pictures and updates a couple of times per day, and walked our dog two or more times each day. Our dog took an instant liking to Gina – and Gina was very engaged and attentive to her. She also did some extras for us with respect to watering plants due to high temperatures. Gina is a mature and very pleasant young lady who works from home so that she is available and present much of each day; and at the end of her stay, she left our home in as good or better condition than when she started - and left us a very detailed note summarizing noteworthy items during her stay. We will definitely be using Gina in the future!

Roberta was incredible!! She watched my 2 very rambunctious goldens and was so great with them. I loved all of the photos and videos - it was clear they had a blast! Roberta was so thoughtful, and when she left, she put on a soothing YouTube video for the dogs since I was coming back late at night - the babies were nice and cozy when I arrived home. 10/10 recommend!!

Magree was a great dog and house sitter! Our dog is usually anxious with new people but she quickly became comfortable with Magree after a meet and greet. Magree kept our house very clean and sent us daily photo updates. Our dog was very happy and we will definitely book with Magree again in the future!

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred La Jolla walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in La Jolla maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in La Jolla choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
