“This is our second time with Dustin and again he was amazing! Our dog really loves him, and he is so respectful and responsive, and takes great care with our pet and our home. 5 stars!! We will rebook him for sure!”

“Jacob was great! He took great care of Chuck for me and even did extra stuff around the house I didn't ask for. The house looked better than when I left and was very clean. I will for sure look to use Jacob again in the future!”

“Bridgette was so wonderful!! She stayed at our home and watched our puppy and made us feel so comfortable leaving town. Highly recommend!! Kind, responsible, and our pup loved her.”

“Josette did a wonderful job of taking care of our three dogs. She is responsive, reliable, was great with giving medications to our senior dog, providing updates and pictures. She stayed at our home while we were away, which we love because both my husband and I work from home. Our dogs are used to having someone at home almost all day long. She also walked our dogs in the morning and in the evening. She played ball with our dogs a few times a day in the backyard. She is also clean and tidy. She washed all the towels and bedding that she used. We did not expect that at all. We’re so grateful to have found her. She loves animals and understands a dogs’ body language. We will be returning clients. We highly recommend Josette to take care of your pets.”

“Elise did a fantastic job dogsitting Athena! She was very responsive, gave daily updates (with pictures). She even took time meet Athena before I traveled, and to learn some commands. I had a complete peace of mind during my trip and Athena was sad to let her go. I would definitely recommend Elise, and book her again, 💯.”

About: I’ve been around animals my entire life and have always had dogs of my own, giving me years of hands on experience caring for pets with different personalities, energy levels, and routines. Over the years, I’ve cared for friends’ and family members’ dogs through walks, drop-in visits, feeding, and companionship while they’re away. I also grew up with two cats, so I’m comfortable providing cat care, including feeding, litter box cleaning, check-ins, and companionship. While I’m most experienced with dogs, I truly enjoy caring for both dogs and cats. In 2025, I launched WalkWell, a local pet care business focused on reliable, personalized dog walking and pet care services in La Jolla. I currently offer solo and group walks, drop-in visits for dogs and cats, and customized care based on each pet’s unique needs. I’m very active and love spending time outdoors, so I enjoy making sure dogs get the exercise, fresh air, and attention they need whether that’s a neighborhood walk, beach stroll, or simply some extra movement during the day. I understand how important trust and communication are when someone is caring for your pet, and I treat every animal as if they were my own. Pet care is built into my weekly routine through my business, WalkWell. My schedule is flexible, which allows me to provide weekday walks, drop in visits, and recurring care for both dogs and cats. I’m available for morning, midday, afternoon, and select evening visits, and I make sure each pet gets personalized attention based on their needs. Safety, trust, and communication are very important to me when caring for someone’s pet. For walks and drop in visits in a client’s home, I make sure pets stay on their normal routine, including walks, feeding, fresh water, playtime, medication (if needed), and plenty of attention. I’m respectful of each client’s home and provide updates/photos so owners feel comfortable while they’re away. In my home, pets are treated like family and safety always comes first. I have a dog of my own, so if I ever accept daycare or boarding requests, it would only be for pets that seem like a good fit, are well-behaved, and get along well with my black lab. I prefer to do a meet and greet beforehand whenever possible to make sure everyone is comfortable.
“Nicole was kind, confident, and loving with Forest. She made it a priority to meet up in advance of the stay, asked thoughtful questions, and learned Forest’s quirks! She took him on multiple long daily walks, sent daily recaps with photos, and left the house in perfect condition. Would definitely love to work with Nicole again in the future.”

“Roberta was amazing with our 5 month old puppy! He can be a handful and we are we’re worried about leaving him for the first time. Roberta was knowledgeable and kept us updated with pictures along the way. She gave our boy lots of love, play and walk time. We appreciate her so much!”

“Hannah was amazing with my pup. She was responsive and send regular updates through the sitting window. She followed all requests and made me feel confident that my little pup was in good hands. She took Rye on a long walk and made sure to set up the apartment before she left. Highly recommend!”

“Rachel was amazing! She was very sweet. She was right on time, our dog Nemo loved her and she was great about providing updates and pictures (all updates and photos were sent about once an hour, which was very frequent!). Our dog cuddled right up to her and felt very comfortable with her.”

“Thank you for taking such good care of my kids! My dog, Charlie, and my cat, Apollo, both were very well taken care of. I received a lot of updates and photos and came home to a clean house with happy animals. I recommend Ryan for taking care of your babies :)”

“Gina is a great pet sitter! She sent lots of photos throughout the night, and my dogs looked so happy and comfortable with her. She took them on an evening walk, followed all instructions perfectly, and was very communicative and friendly. I would absolutely hire her again and highly recommend her to anyone looking for a reliable pet sitter.”

Pet parents share their Rover experiences - La Jolla
Magree was a great dog and house sitter! Our dog is usually anxious with new people but she quickly became comfortable with Magree after a meet and greet. Magree kept our house very clean and sent us daily photo updates. Our dog was very happy and we will definitely book with Magree again in the future!

Gina was phenomenal with my sweet/senior labrador retriever, Penny. Super communicative before and during the period she took care of Penny, and sent photos and updates as well. Clearly has a fondness for dogs, as well as experience with senior doggos. Penny loved her from the moment they mer. Couldn’t recommend Gina more highly and will definitely be going to her first should I leave town again!

Aleksandra had an excellent rapport with my dogs from the beginning. They quickly settled down during the meet&greet and she was not rattled by them. She was attentive to instructions and asked questions as needed. Most importantly she was prompt and reliable. Very good at reading an understanding the dogs communication. The stay went well.

Roberta is hands down the best rover I’ve ever had. She watched both of my pups while I was out of town. My boxer Toasty is very anxious and takes forever to warm up to new people and within an hour he was giving her kisses. She kept me updated with tons of photos and videos of them on walks, playing with toys, and she even got them pup cups! I could tell they were genuinely having the time of their lives. And when I got home, the place was spotless. Couldn’t recommend her more highly.

FAQs for House Sitting - La Jolla
Frequently asked questions about Rover
The average cost for House Sitting in La Jolla on Rover is $55.5 per night (as of July 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.
Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .
As of July 2026, there are 7,009 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across La Jolla. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.
Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred La Jolla walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in La Jolla maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in La Jolla choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in La Jolla. On Rover:
- 94% of sitters can help with special care needs
- 95% can help with giving oral medications or injections
- 98% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
