During our initial in-person evaluation, Andrew came to our home and spent a good deal of time discussing our concerns while playing with Miso. He was able to observe how she interacts with us both individually and together. We then went for a walk so he could observe one of our biggest obstacles - her leash aggression toward other dogs as well as how we react to her aggression and more importantly, where we can improve with simple commands and consistency. While he says he observed her reaction to other dogs as ‘severe’ - I thought it was one of her more milder outbursts! But he is correct, it reached a certain level and anything beyond that is definitely severe. Additionally, we discussed her separation anxiety and some small steps we can take to start addressing that right away as it is a long process. Overall, we found Andrew to be right on the same page as we are with our approach and thoughts on moving forward. He has already provided feedback and an outline of actions for us to start taking immediately. He is kind, observant, respectful and open to discussion on what’s best for Miso, rather than just a cookie cutter approach. We look forward to working with him in the future. -Justin & Kelly & 🐕

Justin was so helpful with our 10 week old puppy we have had a lot of trouble potty training. He offered to do a free consultation to start but he was so helpful I just had to pay him for his time. He really eased my anxiety and I feel more confident that we are on track. I'm looking forward to working with him on leash training when the time comes. Can not thank him enough.

We had such an amazing experience with Yvonne. She was incredibly friendly, knowledgeable, and immediately understood exactly what our Boxer, Nala, needed. After just one session, we felt an overwhelming sense of relief and confidence moving forward. Yvonne truly puts in the time, effort, patience, and genuine care—not just for the dog, but for the whole family. We are so excited to continue Nala’s training sessions and couldn’t be more grateful. If you’re looking for a trainer who truly knows what they’re doing and actually cares, Yvonne is your person.

Sarah has been a very loving dog sitter for us for many years. She is reliable, personable, and our dog loves her. He literally runs out to her car to greet her when she comes to our home. More recently, Sarah has begun training Boomer, working on the "heel" command with which he has struggled in the past. He has made real progress under her loving care! I highly recommend Sarah as a trainer. She really connects with dogs and gains their trust, making the whole process of training more fruitful with minimal frustration.

I live in Massachusetts and Cecilia helped me train my labradoodle via video lessons. All we used was a clicker and food ( treat size morsels). I have the most well behaved and happy dog and the envy of the neighborhood. I highly recommend Cecilia for her services.

Andrea’s training with my pup Canelo has been invaluable. She helped us dial in leash work, “leave it,” and most importantly, getting him calm and confident in public. The progress has been real and noticeable. She’s patient, clear, and knows what she’s doing. I’m genuinely grateful for her guidance. Highly recommend.

Dog Training FAQs

Frequently asked questions about Rover

Trainers listing on Rover must be credentialed dog trainers, commit to reward-based training methods, and pass a background check to offer dog training in San Diego.

Reward-based training encourages dogs to offer desired behaviors by reinforcing the behavior with something the dog likes; treats, play, or toys. Reward-based training prioritizes using the least intrusive intervention; it promotes thinking rather than punishing mistakes.

When rewards are used, the likelihood the behavior is repeated increases. The positive connection to the reward results in making learning enjoyable, strengthens the human animal bond and over time leads to consistent desired behaviors.

Training can happen many places — your home, a park, a store, or anywhere else that you and your trainer decide is best for the training you are doing! Many trainers will recommend training in your home. This allows them to observe your dog in their natural environment so they can effectively assess and best help reach your training goals.

Trainers will often mention on their profile where they typically hold training sessions, but you can always contact a trainer to learn more!

If you’re searching for a dog trainer in San Diego for the first time, visit the trainer’s profile and select the Contact button.

If you have an active request or have booked a service with a trainer before, learn more about how to do this in the Rover app or on your computer.

Rover makes it easy to find San Diego dog trainers to provide loving care from their own home. The background-checked, 5-star trainers you can find on Rover will work with you and your dog to build new skills and address behaviors. Dog trainers can work on:

  • Puppy training, adult dog training, agility training, clicker training and advanced training.
  • Behaviors such as barking, leash manners, leash reactivity, house manners, jumping, fearful behavior, anxious behavior, separation distress, recall, biting, chewing, mouthiness, potty training and resource guarding.

Of course! Having a trainer that is the right fit for both you and your pup is an important step to reaching your training goals. We recommend reaching out to any trainer that interests you. Your initial request is not final until both you and the trainer decide you want to move forward with booking.

Also, trainers may offer or require consultations. Make sure to ask trainers so you can make the best decision for you and your pet.

Many trainers on Rover indicate experience in a wide range of behaviors, from puppy training to more advanced behaviors and training types.

Review a trainer’s profile to see if their experience aligns with your needs, and if you have questions, don’t hesitate to contact them to ensure they’re the right trainer for you and your pet.

We get it—sometimes plans change and you may need to cancel your dog training service. You can cancel an upcoming booking directly from the Rover app or your computer, in accordance with your trainer’s cancellation policy.

Note: If your dog trainer requested to cancel this booking, then they need to cancel from their account. Please contact them via Rover Messages.
