“Rebecca communicated well before we met and throughout the weekend, as well as provided adorable photos and updates during her visits. I would recommend Rebecca to anyone looking for a great pet sitter!”

About: I'm a longtime rescue volunteer with a heart for the 'underdogs.' Since 2016, I've fostered many pups for Last Hope K9, helping everyone from timid wallflowers to high-energy reactive dogs find their footing. Although I'm not a professional trainer, I have experience with potty training, leash training, crate training and know a bunch of indoor games for mental stimulation. I believe in positive reinforcement training but also have experience with tools like prongs, halti, transitional leashes or collars when there are no better options. I only walk one dog at a time to ensure they get all the attention and the best safety. Today, I live with my 12-year-old 'foster fail' who prefers to be the king of the castle, so I had to stop fostering. I work full-time remotely, but recently I have 2 to 3 hours of flexibility during weekdays, especially in the afternoons and evenings. I'm usually out of town on weekends, but I'm happy to check in on your pets if I'm around. I have a small fenced and paved yard. However, since my dog wants to be the only king at home, I won't be able to accommodate your pet at my place.
“Amanda was absolutely fantastic!! My cats both have health conditions and need medicine every 12 hours. Amanda always did her check ins really promptly and was super communicative throughout, really going the extra mile several times. I'm always a little nervous leaving my very old cats and she put my mind totally at ease. I would definitely have her back again and again!”

“Sasha did an absolutely wonderful job with my kitties during my first trip out of town! She was easy to reach and work with, learned each of my pets’ individual needs and personalities, and kept them happy and entertained. She sent tons of cute pics and updates and when one of them had a minor vomit-sesh, she cleaned up no worries and just let me know after. Totally recommend her services!”

“Our second time booking Isabel, she was so great with our kitty! We travelled for a week, she kept us very up to date and our kitty Kevin looked so happy in all the photos she sent. Highly recommend”

“Eleanor was great with Luna while we were on vacation! Luna warmed up to her super quickly. Eleanor spent time sitting / playing with Luna each day on her visit and sent us lots of pictures and updates!”

“I’d absolutely book Hannah again! Both of my cats have multiple medications and she took great care to get everything right. She was even able to give Bodhi his insulin injection on her first night! She was very communicative and sent lots of photos of the cats and photos of their leftover food (particularly helpful for Rosie, as we had just changed her to a new diet). I didn’t worry about the cats once while we were away. I knew they were in good hands!”

“Nate has been awesome with our dog, Sadie. She can be fearful, but it was very clear at the first meeting that she was comfortable with him right away. He’s very attentive and communicative - sends pictures and videos during his visit, which we love. We will be continuing to have him watch Sadie on a regular basis and occasionally day care and overnights!”

About: I’ve been caring for dogs for several years through pet sitting for family and friends, volunteering with a local animal shelter, and now through Rover. I’ve cared for dogs in their homes and provided regular walks, and I’m comfortable with dogs of all sizes, ages, and energy levels. I always take the time to get to know each dog and make sure they feel comfortable and cared for. I work from home with a flexible schedule, which allows me to provide reliable care and plenty of company throughout the day. Whether your dog loves a long walk, some playtime, or simply relaxing by my side, I’m happy to follow their routine and give them the attention they need. I’m also happy to follow detailed instructions and send regular updates so you can feel confident your dog is happy and well cared for while you’re away! Pet care fits really naturally into my weekly routine since I work from home with a flexible schedule. This allows me to reliably offer morning walks, midday drop-ins, and evening care during the weekdays, with some additional flexibility on weekends depending on availability. I’m looking to provide steady, dependable care that feels consistent and low-stress for both pets and their owners, rather than occasional or unpredictable bookings. I provide pet care in clients’ homes, focusing on keeping each pet comfortable by sticking closely to their normal routine. I follow all care instructions, including feeding schedules, walks, litter box care, and any specific household guidelines. For dogs, I prioritize calm, structured walks with safe leash handling, along with attention, play, and bathroom breaks based on their usual routine. For cats, I provide quiet, respectful care including feeding, litter box cleaning, fresh water, and companionship based on each cat’s comfort level. I also make sure the home is secure while I’m there and send regular updates and photos so owners know their pets are safe and doing well!

“Gabrielle was an amazing pet sitter for my cat and I’m so glad I found her. My cat was having a lot of separation anxiety when I left for my trip, but Gabrielle took over like a professional cat whisperer and helped calm her and cared for her with her with a lot of attention to detail and I was so grateful! She was responsible, communicative, great with instructions and went above and beyond sending lots of pictures and updates for every visit which I loved, appreciated and looked forward to seeing everyday. It gave me so much peace of mind knowing my cat is in such good hands. She’s been an absolute star sitter and I would highly recommend her!”

“Anna took great care of our Stanley! She was very responsive and attentive to any issues during her visits and made sure Stanley was well taken care of while we were away. Highly recommend!”

“I’ve very happily re-booked with Lily (for daily check-ins on my cat while we’re away) twice now! She always gives our little Peanut lots of love and playtime. I’ll be eager to book with Lily again!”

About: I am 26 years old and I have been dog walking and house sitting with dogs and cats since the age of 11. I grew up in a house with 2 dogs and helped out throughout all the puppy phases. In high school I had a chinchilla and 3 years ago I got my own cat, so I am now much more familiar with their needs (I found the show "My Cat From Hell" especially helpful). I have a lot of experience with both anxious and energetic cats and dogs. I can administer oral medications and will make sure your pet eats their whole meal. I am currently working from home, so schedule is very flexible just propose a day and time and I will let you know what works! I can only care for pets in other people's homes, my apartment is not pet friendly. I am very mindful of animal communication styles and am good at helping tentative animals come out to play. I appreciate the opportunity to access a yard, park, or even spacious living room where we can play after a walk or before a meal.

“This is the second time I hired Alanna to watch my cat and I'll definitely be hiring her a third time! Her communication was great, and I was living for her photo updates and summaries. Highly recommend!”

About: Throughout the past few years I've been able to help dogs walk better on a leash just by taking them on regular trips. I'm patient and happy to adjust to the dog's normal routine and the family's expectations so rules are still followed when they return. Overall, I'm doing this because I love dogs and want to care for them just as you do! I do work a full-time job, but I’m happy to care for pets on the weekends, in the mornings and evenings outside of my work hours, and can many times care for them during lunchtime. In a client’s home, I’m very respectful of the environment and ensuring that the client’s expectations for home care and the relationship with the pet is respected (ex. Keeping pets off furniture, placement of toys and bowls, clean up).

Cat parents share their Rover experiences - Somerville
Kat was wonderful with Lumi! Her experience in taking care of kitties meant she knew exactly what questions to ask when we did our meet and greet. She knew how to play with Lumi, clean the litter box, brush her coat, and give treats as needed. Kat was reliable and gave great updates that we enjoyed reading. She left our place clean and tidy. We highly recommend Kat!

Bonnie is an absolute gem! She is always communicative, patient and caring with our sassy cat Otis. He gets very anxious while we’re away but with Bonnie we know he is in the best of hands! There is no one else we would trust quite like Bonnie with our little guy ☺️

Working with Hannah was fantastic! She took such thorough notes at our meet and greet — so I knew my kitty Clover was going to be in great hands. Her updates were charming & detailed, communication 10/10, and her photos on Clover’s Rover card were amazing! Will be booking again :)

Emma was very helpful in coordinating logistics for watching our cats, and went above and beyond during the visits, even cleaning up some messes our cats made while we were away. She also sends nice visit summaries and photos of the cats after each visit. 5 stars!

If I could give Alexina 10 out of 5 stars I would! She really understands cats and was so good to my sweet cat. I came home to find my sweet and extremely social kitty happy and well cared for. He is usually anxious when I come home from a weekend away but he was calm, happy and confident. Also everything was pristine/clean. 💕💕💕💕

A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your cat, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Somerville. On Rover:

You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
