“Amanda was absolutely amazing taking care of our dog, Millie and our cat, Dobby for a week. From the moment we left, she checked in regularly with updates and photos, which gave us so much peace of mind. Her communication was excellent throughout our trip, and it was clear she genuinely cared about our pets. When we came home, Dobby and Millie were happy, relaxed, and clearly well cared for. It was obvious they had received plenty of love and attention while we were away. I would hire Amanda again without hesitation and highly recommend her to anyone looking for a trustworthy, caring, and reliable pet sitter!”

About: Hello! My name is Kayala, and I am a college student from Somerville, Massachusetts. I have been cat sitting for the past seven years and have had cats and bunnies my entire life. I have multiple regular cat sitting clients in the Somerville, Cambridge, Boston area that I have maintained through the years. I am a friendly and trustworthy person, and I make sure to treat pets with respect and love while also taking care of all of their needs. I have a cat in Somerville named Violet, and a bunny named Loretta who stays with me in my dorm during the school year. I'm known for loving my pets more than anything, and have tattoos for both of them! They are my girls, and my most divine companions. I deeply understand the strength of the bond between you and your kitties <3. I know it can be stressful to leave your kitties in the care of a stranger, but I make sure to send photos and updates! I am also happy to meet with you in person, learn about any special care instructions and preferences, and make sure you and your kitties are comfortable. I am an excellent pet snuggler (known for making cats, dogs, goats, and pigs fall asleep in my arms!), but am also always very aware of an animal's body language. It is so important to respect their boundaries! I have experience giving oral medication, inhalers, critical care (liquid food for rabbits), and subcutaneous injections. I am in Somerville for holidays and school breaks (summer and winter), where pet care is a prioritized commitment for me. I take same day bookings, as long as I am in town! I have extensive experience with cat sitting and have been running my "business" independently for the past seven years in the Boston area. I am the sole caregiver for my bunny, Loretta, and have had bunnies and cats my entire life. When I stop by for my visits, I give attention for a minimum of 25 minutes and meet them where they are. If they want to cuddle, I am open arms! If they want to play, I've got plenty of tricks up my sleeve. If they are scared of my new presence, I will sit thoughtfully and move at their pace to make them as comfortable as possible. I always send photos and updates to pet parents when I see their babies!
“Tam took terrific care of our 10-y-o German Shepherd mix, Ava, once again. Tam gave Ava lots of stimulation, exercise, and TLC, and we came home to a happy pup and our home in great condition. Ava was sick at the very beginning of Tam’s stay (probably ate something “off” just before we left and Tam arrived), and Tam was heroic about cleaning up, keeping us updated, and following our instructions to prepare rice and modify what Ava was eating to get her back to healthy in 24 hours. Tam was terrific and communicated with us throughout. She also sends terrific photos so we never miss Ava too much when we are gone. I definitely recommend Tam for all your dog care needs.”

“Lelani is amazing and went beyond our expectations to love on Cash! She sends the most amazing updates with photos and loved ones our boy so much. It made having to be away so much easier. She left our place spotless, which was a surprising plus.”

“Sydney was great with Rhubarb! She checked in with us and sent a few pictures of Rhubarb while we were out of town for the weekend. She was communicative and when Rhubarb had a problem she contacted us immediately. We came back to a clean apartment and a happy pup. We would book with Sydney again.”

“Sam was wonderful with my shy, anxious pup. Sam took it slow and Fern really warmed up to her. I got a very detailed report from Sam at the end of the weekend. I came home to a happy pup & a spotless home.”

“Ilse was wonderful watching our pets - particularly our anxious dog - over Fourth of July weekend. Super communicative and comfortable giving our pup meds. Even noticed our plants were getting scorched in the heat and needed some refreshment! Will definitely inept be calling her in the future.”

About: I worked at a humane society and worked with many dogs of all sizes and breeds. Helped to socialize them; took them for walks/hikes, went for car rides, got them comfortable being outdoors. I also dog sat for friends and family throughout the years. Very comfortable with giving medications and taking care of special needs dogs (grew up with a dog that required seizure medication and had frequent seizures). As a college student I have a fairly flexible schedule. My weekends are completely free and I have more than a couple hours free during the weekday in the mornings and evenings (as well as some time during the middle of the day if I’m not in class). I grew up in a home where dogs were family members. We were very comfortable with them being indoor and outdoor pets. We would go for hikes, walks/runs (was fairly active to help the dogs release their energy) and would also relax together indoors. Will crate as needed for dog and family comfort or will just hang out on a sofa and read a book for company for the pet. Since I’m used to caring for a high maintenance dog that required special attention, I can clean up accidents and administer medications if needed (with lots of approved treats)
“Alice is the best dog sitter! She always takes great care of our Pitty Marshall. She sends photos and provides updates all throughout the day. She even went above and beyond and washed, dried, and folded all of the bedding and towels she used while in our apartment! Most importantly, I can tell that Marshall is completely comfortable with Alice, and that helps ease my anxiety being separated from my pal.”

“Once again, Amy took such good care of our elderly cat, administering medications and providing ample pets and cuddles. She left our home clean and tidy. We came home to a happy, healthy cat.”
“Andrew did a great job taking care of our two older but rambunctious dogs, and the house was very clean and tidy when we arrived back home! Andrew was friendly and professional from the get-go. He provided pictures as requested and was very responsive. Much appreciated!”

“Nathan was a fantastic house sitter! He did a great job with our big pit mix and cat. He gave the dog plenty of exercise and sent us plenty of pics while we were out of town! Our dog can also be a little standoffish but Nathan did a great job getting to know him and it wasn’t an issue at all. We came back to a clean house and two very happy boys. Would definitely recommend him to watch your animals and/or house. We’ll definitely have him back next time we’re out of town!”

About: I grew up with cats and have lived with animals my whole life (cats, fish, hamsters, dogs). I have provided petsitting for cats, reptiles, and dogs. I have petsit across ages, temperaments, sizes, medical needs, and energy levels. From a senior deerhound, to two young whippets, to cats with specialized diets and medication administration. I'm a remote office worker with a flexible schedule who is looking to stay active and save for my first home. I love going for walks, rain or shine! And there's nothing better than curling up on the couch with a furry friend. I work remotely and can be with your furry family all day and provide them with as much supervision and enrichment/exercise as they need to ensure they have fulfilling and safe days. I am certified by the Red Cross in Pet First Aid.
“Caitlin stayed at our house with our cat for a week and was great! She left our place incredibly clean and clearly took great care of our cat. Would be happy to have her back!”

About: I’ve been caring for dogs for several years through pet sitting for family and friends, and I also volunteered with a local animal shelter, where I took dogs on “doggy day trips” for walks and time outside the shelter. I’m comfortable with dogs of all sizes and energy levels and always aim to meet each dog where they are! I have a flexible work-from-home schedule, which allows me to offer reliable weekday care including morning walks, midday check-ins, evening visits, and overnight stays when needed. I focus on calm, consistent care that helps dogs feel safe and relaxed while keeping their routine in place. Outside of pet care, I enjoy staying active and spending time outdoors through walking, hiking, and fitness classes! I’m happy to follow detailed instructions and provide regular updates so you always know how your dog is doing. Pet care fits really naturally into my weekly routine since I work from home with a flexible schedule. This allows me to reliably offer morning walks, midday drop-ins, and evening care during the weekdays, with some additional flexibility on weekends depending on availability. I’m looking to provide steady, dependable care that feels consistent and low-stress for both pets and their owners, rather than occasional or unpredictable bookings. I provide pet care in clients’ homes, focusing on keeping each pet comfortable by sticking closely to their normal routine. I follow all care instructions, including feeding schedules, walks, litter box care, and any specific household guidelines. For dogs, I prioritize calm, structured walks with safe leash handling, along with attention, play, and bathroom breaks based on their usual routine. For cats, I provide quiet, respectful care including feeding, litter box cleaning, fresh water, and companionship based on each cat’s comfort level. I also make sure the home is secure while I’m there and send regular updates and photos so owners know their pets are safe and doing well!
“Kristina was wonderful with our bernadoodle puppy! She gave us a few updates throughout the night, followed all instructions we left regarding her bathroom routine etc and also sent amazing pictures! Will definitely book her again!”

“Ashley was great! She watched our dog and cat for a long weekend and stayed at our house during that time. I received updates when we were away that kept me assured that all was well, and we returned to a happy dog, content cat, and clean house. We would definitely have Ashley watch our animals again!”

“Julia took amazing care of my pup on my overnight trip! I got plenty of pictures and pupdates and she was very diligent in letting me know how things were going. We will be very excited to have Julia again!”

Pet parents share their Rover experiences - Somerville
10/10 experience! We needed a last minute sitter for our pets and we are very picky about who takes care of them. Hsiao-chia took our long instructions with such grace! Our pets loved her and she made sure to check in with us - easing my anxiety lol. We will certainly use her in the future!

Exceptional as always! Robbie took care of and spent great time with my sweet Atlas while I was out of the country for a week. Given the slight time difference, I explained when I would prefer to receive updates and Robbie took to that immediately--updates were given at the same time every day as expected and it gave me so much peace of mind while I was traveling. When I returned home late that evening, I was surprised the next day to find Robbie had already pre-prepped Atlas' meal for the day for me which was so thoughtful and lovely. Thank you so so so so SO much again Robbie! You're amazing!

Anna did an amazing job with Heidi! Not only did she maintain Heidi’s weekly schedule with drop off and pick up from doggy daycare and bedtime snuggles but Anna also kept our little pup safe and comfortable during the stressful 4th of July fireworks. Highly recommend Anna to anyone looking for a reliable sitter!

Guillermo was great! He watched our reactive dog and shy cat for a long weekend and we were very happy we hired him. We received numerous, detailed updates so we were never worried, and we returned to a clean home and happy, content animals. We will definitely contact Guillermo again!

James was an excellent pet sitter and house sitter for us. He took amazing care of our dog and cat, to include over the July 4th weekend where our dog had significant fireworks anxiety. We got daily photos and videos, and its clear James really invested in engaging the animals in games and activities throughout his time caring for them. I think he even taught our dog some new tricks! Our home was returned even cleaner than he found it, which was unnecessarily kind of him. We hope to work with James again!

Lily was amazing and I wholeheartedly recommend her! I have two dogs and she was wonderful with both of them. My golden, Wrigley, is going through radiation therapy and required special care which she provided meticulously. She was punctual, communicative, and professional and the dogs loved her. She even did the dishes when we were out. Highly recommend - she will take amazing care of your fur babies.

Great experience! Masiel took wonderful care of our two dogs over July 4th (and gave them some special love around fireworks!). Came super prepared to the meet and greet, took good care of our home and provided us lots of updates while we were gone. Our boys loved her!

Emily did a fantastic job housesitting and caring for our dog. She was very easy to communicate with and was very attentive to our dog’s needs. Her updates kept us informed of everything going on and allowed us feel free to be away and trusted her fully with our home and dog. Highly recommend Emily to anyone looking for dog care!

Frequently asked questions about Rover
The average cost for House Sitting in Somerville on Rover is $61.05 per night (as of July 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.
Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .
As of July 2026, there are 6,532 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Somerville. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.
Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Somerville walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Somerville maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Somerville choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Somerville. On Rover:
- 92% of sitters can help with special care needs
- 97% can help with giving oral medications or injections
- 96% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
