“Darby took wonderful care of our cats while we were away. She provided updates and shared photos, which gave us peace of mind. I highly recommend her to anyone looking for a reliable and caring cat sitter.”

About: My experience in pet care comes from regularly providing walking, sitting, and overnight care for the dogs of family members and close friends. This has allowed me to develop experience working with dogs of varying breeds, sizes, personalities, and exercise needs. In addition to routine walks and daily care, I have frequently stayed in clients' or friends' homes for extended periods while they travel, ensuring both their pets and property are cared for responsibly and attentively. I understand how important trust is when leaving your pet and home in someone else's care, and I take pride in being dependable, communicative, and attentive to every pet's and home's unique routine and needs. Pet care is my primary professional focus, which allows me to maintain a highly flexible and open schedule. Because I am not balancing pet care with another job, I am available to accommodate a wide range of client needs, including daytime walks, drop-in visits, overnight stays, and last-minute requests when possible. This flexibility enables me to provide reliable, attentive care and dedicate my time and energy to ensuring pets receive the attention, exercise, and companionship they need. At this time, I provide care exclusively in my clients' homes and do not offer boarding in my own home, as I already have multiple dogs at home and want to ensure every pet receives the safety and space they deserve. I offer services including dog walking, drop-in visits, pet sitting, and overnight stays. When caring for pets in their own environment, I focus on maintaining their normal routine, including feeding schedules, exercise, playtime, medication administration if needed, and plenty of companionship. My goal is to keep pets comfortable, safe, and stress-free while their owners are away, while also treating each client's home with the utmost respect and care.
“Lelani is amazing and went beyond our expectations to love on Cash! She sends the most amazing updates with photos and loved ones our boy so much. It made having to be away so much easier. She left our place spotless, which was a surprising plus.”

“Rachael took great care of our dogs and house. We got frequent updates and pictures, and the dogs seemed happy and well taken care of when we got home. I’d highly recommend booking her for house sitting!”

“Skylar was fantastic with our dog! She was so communicative and sent us so many cute videos while we were gone. I never felt worried about Greta at all! I hope Skylar can watch her again in the future.”

“Erica was phenomenal with my dog. She was responsive, detailed, and dependable. I loved the detailed message she'd send each day of her house sitting with pictures— it made me feel like my pup was really cared for. Would hire again!”

“Andrew went above and beyond taking care of Wagner who was very sick a few days before we left . He gave him all his meds and had to deal with reintroducing his food . Kept us up to date twice a day at least . Thank you Andrew !!!!”

“Alice was was amazing! She asked great questions during our meet and greet and instantly put me at ease. She was super responsive and had great communication. During her overnight with my cat, she sent me great photos of my cat, I could tell he was very pleased with spending time with Alice. Alice left my house in perfect condition. I would 100% book her and would highly recommend her!”
About: I grew up with cats and have lived with animals my whole life (cats, fish, hamsters, dogs). I have provided petsitting for cats, reptiles, and dogs. I have petsit across ages, temperaments, sizes, medical needs, and energy levels. From a senior deerhound, to two young whippets, to cats with specialized diets and medication administration. I'm a remote office worker with a flexible schedule who is looking to stay active and save for my first home. I love going for walks, rain or shine! And there's nothing better than curling up on the couch with a furry friend. I work remotely and can be with your furry family all day and provide them with as much supervision and enrichment/exercise as they need to ensure they have fulfilling and safe days. I am certified by the Red Cross in Pet First Aid.
“Katherine took care of our pup in our home for two nights. She was very responsive, sent us frequent updates and photos, and overall took great care of Daisy. She was very patient with Daisy, who can be fearful of strangers, and she warmed up to Katherine in no time. Overall a great experience and I highly recommend Katherine for anyone who is looking for an in-home sitter.”

“Brianna watched my dog Charlie this week for the second time, and she did an outstanding job! Brianna is highly reliable, communicative, and responsible, and left my apartment very clean. I give her my highest recommendation!”

“David was available for a last minute need to take care of all 3 of my pets! He stayed 5 nights and was very responsive and responsible. Also very clean and respectful of my home as well!”

“We so enjoyed having Miaki stay with Goose and Roo while we were out of town. Miaki is very communicative and thorough - we appreciated that she came by to meet the dogs beforehand and proactively asked questions to ensure that the dogs would be well taken care of in our absence. Miaki sent daily updates throughout our trip, and we can home to very happy dogs. We look forward to Miaki’s next visit and are sure our dogs will be excited to see her too.”
About: I worked at a humane society and worked with many dogs of all sizes and breeds. Helped to socialize them; took them for walks/hikes, went for car rides, got them comfortable being outdoors. I also dog sat for friends and family throughout the years. Very comfortable with giving medications and taking care of special needs dogs (grew up with a dog that required seizure medication and had frequent seizures). As a college student I have a fairly flexible schedule. My weekends are completely free and I have more than a couple hours free during the weekday in the mornings and evenings (as well as some time during the middle of the day if I’m not in class). I grew up in a home where dogs were family members. We were very comfortable with them being indoor and outdoor pets. We would go for hikes, walks/runs (was fairly active to help the dogs release their energy) and would also relax together indoors. Will crate as needed for dog and family comfort or will just hang out on a sofa and read a book for company for the pet. Since I’m used to caring for a high maintenance dog that required special attention, I can clean up accidents and administer medications if needed (with lots of approved treats)
“Jess stayed in my home with my two pups- Max & Izzy. When she came to do the meet & greet she handled my super anxious guy with patience & compassion. For someone with out dog experience, Max definitely can be intimidating and appear aggressive, but Jess knew EXACTLY how to meet a dog with his type of energy and demeanor. My boyfriends dog, Tank, was also in the house at the time of meet and greet even though Jess wouldn't be watching him. Tank is a HUGE malamute mix and Jess showed NO fear around such a large dog and got right on the floor with him to pet him and love on him. I bring up Tank just to say Jess knew she wasn't watching him but still loved on him just as much as Max and Izzy during the meet and greet. Jess' love for animals was extremely obvious from the moment she walked through my door into a mad house of 3 large breed dogs. She handled the chaos of meeting all three dogs with compassion, patience and professionalism. She took notes during the meet and greet and asked all the right questions. Jess appeared to be a very laid back type of person and I know that even though I didn't request any specific routine, she was more than willing to keep them on the exact schedule I have them on. I wanted to make this as comfortable for Jess and my dogs as possible and it was clear that she reciprocated wanting me to feel just as comfortable leaving them in her care. I loved the pictures, videos and messages through out the weekend. This was my first time using rover and I will DEFINITELY use Jess again in the future. I don't usually leave reviews but in terms of care and safety of our beloved pets I want everyone to know that Jess is 1000% the right person for the job! THANK YOU JESS<3”

“Masi did an amazing job watching out wheaten terrier, Trigo! He hasn't had many dog sitters so he tends to be a little jumpy and nervous at first but Masi knew exactly how to calm him down and make sure he was comfortable. We loved getting the video and photo updates and felt confident that Trigo was in the best of care. Thanks so much!!”

“Sydney was great with Rhubarb! She checked in with us and sent a few pictures of Rhubarb while we were out of town for the weekend. She was communicative and when Rhubarb had a problem she contacted us immediately. We came back to a clean apartment and a happy pup. We would book with Sydney again.”

This was our third time booking with him, and once again he was absolutely wonderful! We were away for a full week, and having someone we completely trust with our dog gave us so much peace of mind. We knew our dog was safe, happy, and getting lots of love and attention while we were gone. He always keeps us updated with photos and messages, which makes being away so much easier. It’s clear he genuinely cares about the dogs he watches, and our dog is always excited to see him. We couldn’t ask for a better sitter and will continue to book with him whenever we travel. Highly recommend!

Reilly (and partner Jules!) have done drop-in visits before, but they stayed in my home for two days watching my dog and two cats while I was out of town this time. My animals were clearly well taken care of, and they all seemed calm and happy when I returned home! Knowing that Reilly/Jules are taking care of my babies always makes me feel so much less stressed when I'm away. Highly recommend!

Masi was the perfect dog sitter! She came prepared with a list of questions during the meet and great, making me feel confident in her abilities. I have never leave Murphy alone with someone for this long, he is also a super anxious boy so was unsure how he would do with her. Whatever she did made him comfortable with her which is not an easy task with him sometimes! I will for sure use her again for any trip I have planned!

Heaven was an exceptional house guest and went above and beyond to care for our dog while we were out of town! She was responsive and took extra time to learn our dog’s routine’s, commands, and strategies for his reactivity to other dogs. She also helped with several household tasks like accepting packages and even moved our car for street cleaning! Our apartment was spotless when we came home and our dog was well taken care of. We had a wonderful experience with Heaven and highly recommend her to anyone who wants a detail-oriented and loving person to care for their pet!

Mandy and Daniel were so great with our reactive anxious pup. Since he's too afraid to go on walks in the neighborhood, they drove him to the cemetery every day for quiet walks. He has also been picky with his food lately due to his meds, and they always made sure he had something in his belly and got his meds. I can tell based on the photos and videos that he loved his time with them.

Britney was amazing. She saved us at the last minute when our dog sitting plans fell through right before a 9 day trip. She stayed at our home, took Simba on multiple daily walks, and gave him lots of love. She was highly communicative and responsive to all of my many inquires about Simba. Britney went above and beyond, watering our gardens, washing sheets, and making beds. She left our house in pristine condition and most importantly, kept Simba happy and loved during our time away. I would hire her again in a heartbeat, and I recommend her highly!

We had a great experience with Liana! She was very communicative from start to finish and took wonderful care of our dachshund puppy, Louie. We really appreciated the updates and photos, which gave us peace of mind while we were away, especially since we don’t leave him often. It was clear Louie was well cared for, got plenty of attention, and was comfortable with her. Liana was also very respectful of our home and left everything exactly as we had left it. We would absolutely book with her again. Highly recommend!

It was so great having Alexis take care of our 5-month-old puppy for the weekend. She had tons of experience and he was in great hands. She kept him on a great schedule with lots of fun, play, and walks and sent updates and pictures morning and evening. He loved her. She also left the house in perfect condition. We would definitely love to hire her again.

Guillermo was wonderful during his week-long stay with our dog Joey! He was very communicative and professional throughout the whole process, sending daily photos and updates. He is also clearly great with animals - Joey was sad to see him leave! I give Guillermo my highest recommendation for in-home dog care.

Oxana recently watched my 6-year-old dog Clark at my home for an evening and it was a great experience! Oxana was super communicative about when she would be leaving and arriving, sent plenty of photos of Clark throughout the day, who enjoyed multiple walks and playtime. Clark is a reactive dog so typically needs an experienced pet sitter to watch him and Oxana definitely is that! I would definitely book Oxana again to watch my pup!

Alice is AMAZING! Her attention to detail is top notch, so communicative and so thoughtful. She left our place spotless and went above and beyond with our stubborn dog - carrying him when he wouldn’t walk. I can’t say enough good things… exceeded our expectations

Erin did an amazing job taking care of our guy. She was great at communicating when she’d given his medication and sent tons of photos. Not only that, he warmed up to her immediately and clearly loved her company. She so far exceeded our expectations - anyone (or cat) would be lucky to work with Erin!

Frequently asked questions about Rover

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Somerville walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Somerville maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Somerville choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Somerville. On Rover:
- 92% of sitters can help with special care needs
- 97% can help with giving oral medications or injections
- 96% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
