Darby was really, really great house sitting for us and watching our pup Milah!! She sent pictures multiple times through the day, made sure Milah had enough activity, followed the care/feeding schedule well, and in general just made us feel good about stealing away for the weekend and leaving our pup at home. Would definitely use Darby again!

About: I worked at a humane society and worked with many dogs of all sizes and breeds. Helped to socialize them; took them for walks/hikes, went for car rides, got them comfortable being outdoors. I also dog sat for friends and family throughout the years. Very comfortable with giving medications and taking care of special needs dogs (grew up with a dog that required seizure medication and had frequent seizures). As a college student I have a fairly flexible schedule. My weekends are completely free and I have more than a couple hours free during the weekday in the mornings and evenings (as well as some time during the middle of the day if I’m not in class). I grew up in a home where dogs were family members. We were very comfortable with them being indoor and outdoor pets. We would go for hikes, walks/runs (was fairly active to help the dogs release their energy) and would also relax together indoors. Will crate as needed for dog and family comfort or will just hang out on a sofa and read a book for company for the pet. Since I’m used to caring for a high maintenance dog that required special attention, I can clean up accidents and administer medications if needed (with lots of approved treats)

Ria is fantastic. I have a very nervous dog that Ria was willing to work with for weeks before dog sitting. She was able to win her over and is now on a very short list of people my dog accepts! It was a gift to be able to go away and relax knowing our pets were well taken care of. She did an amazing job taking care of our house and pets. I feel so fortunate to have met her!

Spencer was a godsend! He house sat my anxious, reactive dog Java for 4 days while I was on vacation. He was punctual and incredibly flexible. He sent regular updates, followed my care instructions perfectly, was patient as my dog warmed up to him. I would call Spencer again for any future sitting needs!

Anna took wonderful care of our puppy Semmie while we were away. She was clearly attentive and gentle with her. Semmie was happy, relaxed, and clearly well cared for the whole time. Anna also communicated really well throughout, and she even took the initiative to come by beforehand to meet Semmie and get to know her before the sit started, which gave us so much peace of mind. It’s obvious Anna genuinely loves dogs and treats them like her own. We felt completely at ease knowing Semmie was in such good hands, and we’ll definitely be booking Anna again for future pet sitting!

Jess stayed in my home with my two pups- Max & Izzy. When she came to do the meet & greet she handled my super anxious guy with patience & compassion. For someone with out dog experience, Max definitely can be intimidating and appear aggressive, but Jess knew EXACTLY how to meet a dog with his type of energy and demeanor. My boyfriends dog, Tank, was also in the house at the time of meet and greet even though Jess wouldn't be watching him. Tank is a HUGE malamute mix and Jess showed NO fear around such a large dog and got right on the floor with him to pet him and love on him. I bring up Tank just to say Jess knew she wasn't watching him but still loved on him just as much as Max and Izzy during the meet and greet. Jess' love for animals was extremely obvious from the moment she walked through my door into a mad house of 3 large breed dogs. She handled the chaos of meeting all three dogs with compassion, patience and professionalism. She took notes during the meet and greet and asked all the right questions. Jess appeared to be a very laid back type of person and I know that even though I didn't request any specific routine, she was more than willing to keep them on the exact schedule I have them on. I wanted to make this as comfortable for Jess and my dogs as possible and it was clear that she reciprocated wanting me to feel just as comfortable leaving them in her care. I loved the pictures, videos and messages through out the weekend. This was my first time using rover and I will DEFINITELY use Jess again in the future. I don't usually leave reviews but in terms of care and safety of our beloved pets I want everyone to know that Jess is 1000% the right person for the job! THANK YOU JESS<3

About: I’ve had dogs in my family since I was born and cats all throughout college - animals have always been part of my life, but now that I live alone in Boston, it’s a bit expensive to raise an animal. I babysit for friends’ dogs and cats all the time but am really looking forward to more constant companionship! Training has always been really easy for me and I’m very much looking forward to playing with or welcoming your cat or dog, of any size, shape, or age. They will all be spoiled as much as you allow. My home is heated with mini-splits and has hardwood floors, so any accidents can be undone easily :) I have a fenced-in yard that is shared occasionally with the upstairs doggie. I run a startup so I can come home on a flexible schedule determined by your dog or cat - and am home 70% of the time on weekends, ready to be out and about entertaining your pet on a walk or chilled at home with a book and cooking. No loud noises, fast traffic, or children to worry about in my home! If I am in your home, I will do exactly as you request and avoid any disruptions to your pet’s routine or comfort levels. If you trust your dog or cat to me in my home, I’ll do my best to replicate as much of their environment as possible and make sure they don’t miss you TOO much!

Paige was excellent. She sent pictures everyday. My husband and I had to go away to deal with some family issues and it was nice to be reassured that our furry loved ones were safe and cared for. We have a sometimes cantankerous cat (don't we all) that warmed up to Paige. Our Border Collie mix was exercised and happy. All was well and stress free.

About: While I’m new to Rover, I’m not new to caring for pets. I’ve had two cats for the past 4 years and have pet sat for friends and family when they’ve needed help. I’m reliable, responsible, and happy to follow whatever routine and instructions help you and your pet feel most comfortable. I’ll make sure your pet gets plenty of attention and care, and I’ll keep you updated with photos and messages so you can relax while you’re away. I work full-time (6am-2pm) as a scientist, so I’m generally available for afternoon, evening, and weekend visits. My schedule can be flexible though to accommodate for early morning visits. I’ll always be upfront about my availability and make sure I can give your pet the time and attention they need before accepting a booking. I use Rover myself so I know how important it is to trust the person caring for your pet and entering your home. I’ll always follow your instructions carefully, keep your home clean and secure, and make sure your pet gets the attention and care they deserve. Whether it’s a walk, playtime, or just keeping them company, I’ll make sure they feel comfortable until you’re back. I’ll also send plenty of updates and photos so you never have to wonder how they’re doing.

FAQs for House Sitting - Allston

Frequently asked questions about Rover

The average cost for House Sitting in Allston on Rover is $65.49 per night (as of August 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.

Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .

As of August 2026, there are 6,555 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Allston. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:

  • Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
  • Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
  • Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
  • Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.

The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Allston walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.

It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Allston maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:

  • Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
  • Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
  • Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.

Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!

Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Allston choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!

The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.

All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.

Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.

Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .

If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.

For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.

Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.

A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.

Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.

Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.

If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.

Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Allston. On Rover:

  • 92% of sitters can help with special care needs
  • 97% can help with giving oral medications or injections
  • 96% can help with daily exercise

You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.

Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
