“We had an amazing experience with April! She was incredibly kind, attentive, and clearly has a genuine love for animals. Our dogs absolutely adored her, and we felt completely at ease knowing they were in such caring hands. She went above and beyond to keep us updated and made sure they were happy and comfortable the entire time. We’ll definitely be booking her again in the future—highly recommend!”

“Very kind, responsive, communicative, and overall great experience. Tehani provided updates throughout my dog's stay and he seemed to have a great time with her own dogs. Would recommend!”

“My very first time utilizing Rover service providers. I’m so thrilled and pleased with the care that Christine provided. Our initial meet & great definitely eased my anxiety and Marlee took to her right away. Christine provided updates and photos during Marlee’s stay. I could see from the pics that Marlee was enjoying her time and blended well with the other dogs present. Definitely plan to board w/ Christine again. Thanks for taking good care of my fur baby and easing her separation anxiety.”

“If you love your dog, you want this family to pet board/sit while you’re away. Phenomenal to work with. They love animals and it shows with the care they take. I am very particular about what sort of people are allowed to watch my dog (commutative, social, can follow the walking scheduling etc) and they passed with flying colors.”

“Great experience! We highly recommend Helena to anyone looking for a caring dog sitter. We left our 40-lb dog Calvin for a week with Helena without any issues. I'm so happy to have left my dog in Bethany's care! You can tell she's an animal lover and treats pets with so much care and attention. I appreciated the photo she sent me while Korben was enjoying the dog park. I'm so happy to have found Bethany and I most certainly leave Korben with her again. Highly recommend!

I appreciate Veronica so much for how well she cares for our two dogs. It’s so easy to go on vacation or visit family and know I don’t have to think twice about concerns about my dogs or home. There is a reason we are repeat customers and now our neighbors are too!

Asia was great! We did an initial meet and greet, which always helps everyone get comfortable. During the stay, she was communicative, shared photos, and answered our questions. Our pup is 1.5 and still getting used to new environments so definitely put our mind at ease. Appreciate her taking good care of our baby!

Emily and her family were amazing with Millie! I don’t think Millie even wanted to come home when I picked her up. Emily kept me updated throughout the weekend with messages and photos, which gave me so much peace of mind. We’ll definitely be booking with her again, and I highly recommend her to anyone looking for a caring and reliable sitter!

Abby provided a dedicated room for our kitties with a cat tree, lots of hideaways and cat toys. She had lickable treats to help the kitties get in their carriers when it was time to go. She sent us pictures of our cats once during their 2.5 day stay. She communicated her schedule clearly.

Zhaorong provided consistent communication throughout Maddie’s stay and sent regular photo updates, which gave me peace of mind while I was away. When an unexpected personal emergency made the original boarding arrangement impossible, she worked with me to transition to house sitting so my trip could continue as planned. Maddie appeared well cared for when I returned home, and I appreciated her flexibility and responsiveness during the booking!

A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
While each sitter sets their own vaccine requirements, staying up-to-date on your dog’s vaccines is the best way to be "boarding ready". Vaccinations help create a safe environment for all pets under a sitter’s care.
Many sitters in VA ask that dogs be up to date on core vaccines like the Canine Parvovirus, Canine Distemper, Canine Adenovirus, Bordetella, and Rabies. Cats may be required to have Feline Viral Rhinotracheitis and Rabies up to date.
By discussing your pet's health history early, you’re adding a layer of confidence for you and your sitter before the booking begins.
Emergency support is available by phone or email in English 24/7. When an incident occurs, we recommend that sitters contact our Trust & Safety team immediately so that they can connect your sitter with a board-certified veterinarian or offer other resources to help.
If a sitter needs to cancel at the last minute, Rover’s reservation protection means our team will work with you to find a suitable replacement as quickly as possible.
