“Khristie was excellent with my dog Goose who is somewhat needy and shy. He was immediately comfortable around her and she took great care of him. He had a ton of quality cuddle and play time. Can’t thank you enough!”

“Stacy and her family took great care of Jade. It was a big relief to us that Jade was very comfortable while we were on our trip. Jade really enjoyed herself, especially, with the kids. We would like to leave Jade with Stacy whenever possible!”

“Alexis, Andrew, and their boys did an amazing job of making Pepper feel comfortable and happy. Regular pics of Pepper was sent to me and she looks very happy in every pic. I would recommend this family for anyone looking for a dog sitter. Thanks again for caring for Pepper.”

“Kathleen has now cared for our two dogs 3 times (almost more than we saw them last month). She is absolutely amazing; she has no problem getting my older dog to take her pills, they get super excited to see her and she has been beyond flexible with us on drop off and pick-up. I highly recommend her!”
“Aly took such good care of Duffy! She provided us daily updates and photos of him. We can tell he had a great time with Aly! We’re so glad to found such a trustworthy babysitter for Duffy!”

“Thoughtful, sent plenty of updates. This was our first time away from our puppy, and she put our mind at ease. Her pup Bentley is a sweetheart.”

“Morgan was a great dogsitter! She sent frequent updates and was very responsive. Our dog was happy and tired when we picked her up after a weekend staying at Morgan's. We would recommend to anyone.”

“I was nervous to leave Winnie for the first time with non-family but Cheryl and Gustavo (and their family) welcomed Winnie and made her feel right at home! I received daily photos and updates which helped ease my worries, she was very well taken care of, loved on, and treated like one of their own. Will definitely rebook for our next trip. Winnie enjoyed her vacation as much as we did!”

“Hazel took wonderful care of our elderly dog. This was our dog's second week-long stay with Hazel and I am so happy we have found her. The pictures showed that our dog was comfortable and doing well. before we took her home, she made a point to walk over to Hazel and touch her with her nose as a goodbye gesture.”
“My family is so grateful we found Jennifer. Our dog is high needs, he takes medication morning and night. He’s also a finicky eater, especially when away from home. Jennifer took excellent care of him for the week we were away. Often updating on his medicine, giving lots of love and cuddles and sending photos ( my son’s favorite seeing that his best friend was being well taken care of). Jennifer is easy to communicate with, welcoming and very responsible- will definitely ask her to watch my dog again.”

“Nadine did a wonderful job taking care of my small dog, Shadow! She asked all of the right questions, consistently sent pictures and videos, and truly made my pup feel right at home. Nadine will definitely be my go to now when it comes to boarding my dog! 10/10!”

“Thanks for a great stay! Victoria takes great care of my dog and the update she gives during & after the stay gives great reassurance. My dog also has fun with Abby the poodle.”

“Quincy had a great week with Michelle and her family, including Cinnamon. Quincy was taking medications and recovering from leg surgery. Michelle cared for him the way I would have. This was our first stay with Michelle and we will definitely stay with her again.”

“Alyce took great care of my dog while I was on vacation. She was very communicative and sent lots of pictures and updates. I always felt that my dog was in good care with Alyce and would recommend her to anyone looking for a good dog sitter!”

“Musa and his family was amazing to our 1 year old cat Dooly. My fiance and I were abroad for a little over two weeks but we felt completely at ease with Dooly’s care, thanks to Musa. The pictures that we received made it quite evident that Dooly was making himself VERY comfortable. He is a bit of a sensitive boy but he was snuggling up to Musa and his family in just a matter of days. My fiance and I were jealous 🤣 Thanks for everything Musa! We had an insanely busy trip and knowing that Dooly was in great hands allowed for us to focus on family reunions and wedding prep. We appreciate you and your family immensely!!”

“Kimara did a great job with Sedona. Kimara had a nice backyard and safe neighborhood for her. Also, appreciated her flexibility in keeping her longer as we were delayed coming home.”

“My senior labrador retriever had a wonderful stay with Bonnie and I highly recommend her! Bonnie has great communication and was flexible in drop off and pick up times. It's obvious Bonnie is a dog lover, and very attentive to their needs. I was happy to leave my pet in her care and in her comfortable and loving home.”

“Serena did a wonderful job caring for Finn. She sent pictures and video daily and corresponded with us frequently. It was clear Finn was happy and enjoying his time with other dogs. We appreciated that Finn was being cared for as if he was part of the family and it allowed us to enjoy our trip and not be concerned at all. He is exhausted from all of the play time he had and has easily transitioned back to our home.”

Penny had a great stay with Zosha! Zosha has easy to coordinate with and offered to have a meet and greet. He was very responsive which was especially helpful with a last minute booking. He gave us updates on and sent pictures of Penny which made us happy to hear and see that she was being well taken care of while we were away. We would gladly have Zosha watch Penny in the future.

Roxanne was incredible! We left our cat with her for 2 weeks and Roxanne took care of her so well. At the beginning, our cat was having a little bit of difficulty adjusting, because she is a super shy cat. By the time we picked up our cat, Lily was roaming her home and playing with her kids like she has always lived there! Basically, Roxanne made sure Lily made the transition with her gentle and patient approach. Roxanne also kept me updated and sent daily photos and videos. I had absolutely no concern for Lily when we were away, I can’t thank Roxanne enough for that mental peace. If she is available, any time we need help, she will be our first address!

Ashley was a great sitter, very attentive and followed instructions well! Our dog’s allergies were giving him problems while he stayed with her and she promptly sent us photos and asked if he should be given his extra medication, which she administered with no problems. We felt reassured knowing our dog was in capable hands!

We are so very pleased to have found Helena and Nathan to take care of our little Sheltie, “Crystal”, when we go away. They are caring, experienced, and provide great daily updates and pictures/videos. Also, their home and property is ideal for dog boarding and doggie exercise. We highly recommend them and will definitely be using them again to pet-sit our four-legged baby.

Wonderful stay and a very kind family. I would request leaving my dog with them again with no hesitation. Proactively asked questions if there was even the slightest unknown as to how to best care for her. Frequent photos and detailed status updates that made a point of addressing my dogs quirks, reassuring me that all was well. She came home happy and adjusted easily.
Jill and Michael watched our 1 y/o Rhodesian Ridgeback for almost two weeks and were fantastic. You could tell right away how much they genuinely care about the dogs they watch, and their place is set up perfectly for dogs of all sizes - our girl felt right at home. They sent tons of pictures the whole time, so we always knew she was happy and having a blast. Honestly looked less like a stay with a sitter and more like she was away at summer camp. We'll definitely be booking with them again, and highly recommend them to anyone looking for a sitter who will genuinely love your dog like their own. Five stars easily.

Daisy had a wonderful time at Susan’s. I was able to relax on vacation knowing she was well-cared for. She had outdoor time, snuggles on the chair, and was able to be around other dogs. There were enough rugs and they were able to work with Daisy being uncomfortable with slippery floors. Susan will be my first choice for future bookings.

We couldn’t have asked for better care for our Marley! Hyunbang, Austin, and Love were absolutely wonderful with her while we were away. The regular updates helped put our minds at ease, and the photo updates were so cute and fun, and we looked forward to them each day. It was clear Marley was having the best time playing and running around their backyard and then napping comfortably around the house. She came home happy, and we’re already looking forward to her next stay with them!

Truly exceptional. Above and beyond doesn’t even begin to cover it. We were quite nervous to leave our two complex dogs (a 12-year old picky eater and a 2-year old in the thick of recovery from IVDD surgery who is paralyzed and incontinent) for a much-needed break. Carmen and her wonderful family handled everything with such compassion and expertise. They navigated multiple medications, diets, physical therapy exercises, middle-of-the-night GI upset and more. What’s more, they were extremely communicative, sending twice daily updates with beautiful photos of our dogs that we will cherish forever. We felt that not only were we getting some respite but our dogs had a little getaway too. Can’t recommend enough.

Paula is absolutely wonderful! This was the third time she has watched Samba, and once again, she was amazing. This time, she cared for Samba for 10 days, and we felt completely comfortable knowing she was in such good hands. She kept us updated and took such great care of Samba. We’re so grateful to have found someone we trust so much and would highly recommend Paula to anyone looking for an excellent dog sitter!

A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
While each sitter sets their own vaccine requirements, staying up-to-date on your dog’s vaccines is the best way to be "boarding ready". Vaccinations help create a safe environment for all pets under a sitter’s care.
Many sitters in VA ask that dogs be up to date on core vaccines like the Canine Parvovirus, Canine Distemper, Canine Adenovirus, Bordetella, and Rabies. Cats may be required to have Feline Viral Rhinotracheitis and Rabies up to date.
By discussing your pet's health history early, you’re adding a layer of confidence for you and your sitter before the booking begins.
Emergency support is available by phone or email in English 24/7. When an incident occurs, we recommend that sitters contact our Trust & Safety team immediately so that they can connect your sitter with a board-certified veterinarian or offer other resources to help.
If a sitter needs to cancel at the last minute, Rover’s reservation protection means our team will work with you to find a suitable replacement as quickly as possible.
