A warm heart for a cold nose!
In addition to being an approved foster home for Homeward Trails Animal Rescue, I've cared for dogs, cats, rabbits, and one very cute hamster throughout my 48 years. After both of my senior rescue pups passed away from old age during Covid, I've really missed having a furry companion running around. I'm not quite ready to have my own pet full-time again but enjoy caring for others' furry friends between foster pups. Open to full day, evenings, or weekends. Seniors have a special place in my heart and are always welcome. I am very experienced with those that have special needs or medicines. I do ask that all pets are kid friendly as I have a 10 year old "trainer" that comes with me and really enjoys reading to the pups at bedtime. Though my son will keep his distance from dogs that are skittish, we want a safe and calm place for both the pet and child to stay when they're in our home. For stays in our home, especially those last minute needs, we have beds, crates, bowls, toys, and even various types of emergency food just in case. We're who you need in a pinch or if your flight is delayed on the way home. Boarding in our home always comes with multiple walks a day and often a fun adventure and patio time!

Rachel was the best! She is competent and communicative. It was easy to go out of town because she loved on my dog and sent wonderful photos and fun stories about their adventures! Both my boys are older (13 and almost 15) and one has 3 legs. She was great at keeping my reactive big dog calm and he loved all her cuddles and treats and trips outside! She comforted my small tripod through the thunderstorm and he greatly appreciated her lifting him up onto the couch for snuggles and her carrying him home when he got tired after she let him explore and sniff out all his fave places. Thanks and the boys say woof!
I've known Rachel since she was a little girl. She is kind, gentle, and very patient. She loved on and cared for her two dogs and gave them the best life ever. I would not hesitate to let her take care of your pets too.
If dogs could run a clubhouse, Rachel would be the resident advisor. She has a sixth sense when it comes to dogs and often knows what they need before they even make a fuss about it. Her understanding of canine behavior goes a long way in helping dogs feel comfortable, safe, and cared for. Rachel is incredibly prepared and attentive, always making sure dogs have proper bedding, plenty of exercise, fresh food and water, and the attention they deserve. She treats every dog as if it were her own. What stands out most is how naturally dogs gravitate toward her. It’s not uncommon for dogs to seem perfectly content staying a little longer when their owners arrive. They trust her, enjoy being around her, and genuinely look forward to spending time with her. Rachel truly loves dogs, and the feeling is mutual. Any dog in her care is in excellent hands.

Zeitplan
Working from home makes flexible pick up and drop off scheduling a breeze for pups staying with me! I look forward to making your pet part of our family while you're away. Be sure to let me know if they'd enjoy the park and long walks or prefer a more laid back stay with extra cuddles or space to decompress and we'll adjust. We sit for many families in our neighborhood and several prior dogs have walked with us to and from school (Hi Georgie!)... while others have napped most of the day away. (Hi Duke, Lana, and Mimi, I'm looking at you!) Need me to pick up to make it easier to head out of town? Or deliver once you're home? I gotcha!

I have a small fenced in yard and lots of open green space out back to keep your pup busy! Does your pet prefer a walk around the neighborhood? We'll show them around around and where the best town "gossip" is located. Our "fur-iends" who visit love to check their "pee-mails" and we know all the great spots. Have a well behaved pooch? Your pet will always have free range of my home, if they're most comfortable contained near their humans I can close off doors and block off stairs! We even have extra floor coverings for those a little older that appreciate extra traction when walking. Does the pup like crates better at night, just let me know and I'll follow your routine! We have a couple med/lg sized ones here I keep on hand, in case they're needed. I usually keep the doors off so they can use it as a safe place whenever they'd like unless mom or dad prefers otherwise! Safety is incredibly important to us so all animals will stay leashed outside and I have a 2 pet limit set on Rover so things stay calm and we have plenty of scratchies & snuggle time with the dogs who like to hang out with humans. Have a senior pup who wants to hide somewhere quiet? There's plenty of great hiding spots and we'll tote a bed over to their new favorite spot to keep them comfy.

We love to take walks and often send lots of pics of our adventures! We love a great game of hide and seek, fetch, or tug but some of our friends prefer leisurely sniffing around and slow walks. We're ok with that too and we allow them the time and freedom to enjoy the neighborhood. While inside, we'll help them find the ideal spot to watch squirrels or relax in the sun. If they love Hallmark movies and snoozing, we can do that too. We even have a favorite calming dog music channel we like to play when there is noise outside or a storm rolls through. Every day is a little different having a new friend here at the house, but we want them to feel like it's a second home where they can feel safe! Does your pup like car rides? Let us know and we'll allow them to come along in the SUV should we visit a local park, have a picnic down at Lake Accotink, or wherever we may end up here locally while you're away. (Note: Always leashed, always pet safe spaces!)

- We hope to know your pet's schedule, quirks, and favorites so we can make our home, their home while here! Often times, even on long stays families only need to bring their food, treats, and favorite toys or bed. We have lots of great pet toys, back up food, beds, crates, etc. for those that need them. All toys and beds are washed with special pet safe laundry soap in between pups too! If we're visiting your place, we'll be trying to keep close to your routine to make your return smooth!
