“Brooke is lovely and was able to look after our pup Leo last-minute whilst we visited the walls and museums of York. Brooke sent lots of photos and we could see that Leo was having a great day out, too! We were so glad we could leave him in safe hands with Brooke.”

About: I have extensive experience caring for a variety of animals, including dogs, cats, rabbits, and horses. I’ve grown up with pets and have also worked on farms and livery, giving me hands-on experience with both my own animals and others’. I love taking dogs on long walks, playing, and giving them lots of attention, and I’m equally comfortable relaxing at home with cats while keeping an eye on them. I’m enthusiastic, trustworthy, and genuinely care about each pet’s wellbeing. My experience with animals of all sizes and temperaments, from puppies to senior pets, allows me to provide reliable and compassionate care tailored to each individual. As a York St John university student, I have a flexible schedule and am free most of the time, allowing me to dedicate consistent care and attention to pets. I look after my own cat, Orbit, every day, and I’m passionate about giving animals love, exercise, and companionship while their owners are away. I provide pet care at the owner’s home, offering full attention to their pet’s needs. This includes regular walks, playtime, feeding, and any other care following the owner’s guidance to ensure each pet’s routine and wellbeing are maintained. I’m attentive, reliable, and always send updates and photos so owners can feel confident their pets are happy and cared for.
“Vanessa and her family were lovely with Maya and she has come back happy, and ready for bed! Vanessa sent lovely photos of Maya and her home felt a safe welcoming place to leave my lovely dog. Will definitely take Maya back there. Thanks!”

“Trudie and Flynn absolutely adore christianne, trudie didn’t want to come home. They are both worn out and very happy doggos. Was a last minute booking and that was not an issue, so grateful definitely will be booking again!”

“I couldn’t have asked for a better experience. Communication was spot on from start to finish- I got regular updates and loads of adorable photos that really put my mind at ease. Louie was clearly having the best time, especially when he got to go to the pub (his favourite kind of outing!). It’s so lovely to know he was treated like one of the family. Highly recommend and will definitely be booking again, I can tell why Melanie has had so many repeat bookings!! :)”

“Jingxi was brilliant, comms were great building up to the day, and then on the day recieved loads of photos and updates. My boys came back happy and clearly had a good day with her. Highly recommend jingxi”

“Eva took care of my dog Wanda for an afternoon. Everything went great and Wanda had a great time with Eva. I would definitely leave my Wanda with her again, she spent a great afternoon with lots of treats and cuddles.”

About: Hi, I’ve grown up with dogs all my life and I’ve come back from university for a long holiday break and would love to welcome your dog into my family’s home to stay. I’m also available for dog walking and day care. We can offer a fenced and safe garden, comfortable sofa and plenty of time for cuddles, company, walks and playtime to all the dogs that stay with us. Our home is very dog friendly and full of treats and toys and your pet will never be left alone. We live local to the river and multiple green spaces for a variety of walks. Our family dog, Willow, is 5 years old, she’s an independent miniature poodle. I am happy to arrange a meet and greet before any booking if you would like to see how your dog gets on. I can also easily accommodate separate walks for your dog if you prefer. I want to make your pet feel like this is their home from home so if they have any special requests to make them feel comfortable then please feel free to ask 😁 I’m back from university so I’m available most days, including weekends. I will also be taking care of my own dog when my parents are at work, so I have plenty of time to spend with your dog. I can easily accommodate a dog crate, if your dog is happiest sleeping there. I have a medium-sized fenced garden and live close to Bootham park and the river for nice walks. Your dog is welcome on the sofa and my priority is making them welcome and comfortable.
“Callie had a lovely stay with Lesley! She’s a very warm, friendly person, who obviously loves dogs and I felt confident leaving Callie in her care for the day while my husband and I explored York. She kept in touch through the day and sent a nice little video. I would be very happy to leave Callie with her again.”

“Jaye and Jonny were lovely and welcoming, and from the pictures they sent, and Juno's attitude when we returned, we could tell she had the most wonderful time. We'd happily leave Juno in their care again.”

“Emily did a fantastic job looking after our dog! She was very understanding given he's still a puppy and we're working on training him. I would definitely leave Norman with her again in the future!”

“Hendrix came back happy and healthy.. puppies are super energetic and I felt bad Hendrix just wanted to play all the time he was there and didn’t rest (as he slept in the car on the way) Very appreciated Octavia-Louise, thanks for looking after him!”

About: I've been around dogs since childhood, and three years ago, my family and I adopted our lovely Britney/Staffy cross, Coco, after finding her abandoned while on holiday in Spain. Coco is 5 years old and very loves nothing more than making new doggy friends. We love local walks to the cafe at lunch and going further afield at weekends and would love to have your dog along with us. We also have a large enclosed garden for plenty of outdoor fun during the day! I work from home three days a week and my husband works from home full time so someone will always be around the house. We walk our dog Coco three times a day, and allow plenty of time in the garden between walks. My husband usually walks to a local cafe at lunch for a good one hour walk with the dog. We have a large and totally enclosed back garden and a large open plan living area downstairs. Your dog will be free to wander around the house and hangout with our dog Coco. If we have to pop out for a short time we ensure access to a comfy bed and water at all times.
“Kay took great care of Freddie (a Frenchie) when he was booked in for daycare. He was taken for a walks and felt relaxed enough to have a snooze in the sun when he was there too! Kay went the extra mile to get to know Freddie and I received updates on how he was doing, which was appreciated. She was also very understanding when the car I was travelling in broke down, causing me to be later than planned. I’d recommend Kay and hope to book in again soon.”

“Keefe enjoyed his day with Tom & Joni, Keefe isn’t a small guy but is a big softie & had such fun. We’re so grateful especially as this booking was such short notice. Highly recommend, thank you x”

About: Michael grew up with dogs (spaniels, retrievers and even a labrador that was in training to be an assistance dog) whilst his partner, Joanne, grew up with cats. We've had several dogs stay with us over the last 10 years whilst our 2 sons, 11 & 9, have grown up which has given us the flexibility to have them to stay when its suited us. We do have a cat but she lives upstairs when we have dogs to stay so doesn't come in contact with them. There is a 3 mile loop round some fields near our house which allows the dgos to be off the lead (providing they come back!), and also a longer walk down by the river for the dogs that like a swim. We do like to take the dogs with us when we are out and about (see photos) so it's good if they can slot in with our plans. Our garden is fenced off and allows plenty of space for a ball to be thrown. The dogs will have the run of the entire downstairs and will be walked twice a day at a minimum (unless they need less!).
The median cost per day for doggy day care in York is £25
Dog owners share their Rover experiences - York
This was our first time using Rover and we were very impressed with the service. We met Jolene and her partner prior to leaving Lola with her so we felt comfortable handing her over for a few hours when we went out. She updated us throughout the night with messages and photos of Lola. This gave us comfort to know that she was doing ok and enjoying herself. I would highly recommend Jolene!

Brooke is lovely and was able to look after our pup Leo last-minute whilst we visited the walls and museums of York. Brooke sent lots of photos and we could see that Leo was having a great day out, too! We were so glad we could leave him in safe hands with Brooke.

We were up at York races for the afternoon and left our dog with Melanie for a few hours. Melanie cared for her so well and was so flexible and accommodating with our drop off and pick up times. She kept us updated throughout with messages and photos. If you need a dog sitter in York, please do book Melanie!

Rebecca kindly looked after Brodie for us at short notice and we really appreciated her help. She was polite, friendly and easy to communicate with throughout. Brodie was well looked after and came back happy and settled, which is always the main thing. Thank you again for taking such good care of him, we’d happily recommend Rebecca to others.

Lesley was wonderful, thankyou so much for looking after Buster. We needed day care to attend a funeral in York at last minute. Buster was settled as soon as he saw Lesley when I dropped him off and a very happy chappy when I picked him up. He would clearly have stayed with her without hesitation. Great to get a fully detaiked report on his day too. Wouldn't hesitate to book Lesley again.

Your dog’s first day care experience is a big milestone! To help your pup settle in comfortably, we recommend:
- Food and treats portioned for the day, with feeding instructions
- Your dog's lead and collar (ensure tags are up-to-date)
- Any seasonal gear, such as paw-safe wax for winter or a cooling vest for the summer
- Medication, if applicable, with clear dosage notes
- Any special care instructions or training tips to help your sitter provide the most personalised care possible
Tip: Upload this information directly through the Rover app before drop-off. The more context you provide, the better your sitter can tailor the day to your dog.
While each sitter sets their own vaccine requirements, staying up-to-date on your dog's vaccines is the best way to be 'boarding ready'. Vaccinations help create a safe environment for all pets under a sitter’s care.
Sitters in Yorkshire and the Humber may request that your dog be up-to-date on core vaccines, such as Canine Distemper, Canine Parvovirus, Canine Adenovirus (also known as DHP or DHPPi), Leptospirosis and Kennel Cough. Cats may be required to have Feline Panleucopenia Virus, Feline Herpesvirus, Feline Calicivirus, and Feline Leukaemia Virus up to date.
By discussing your pet's health history early, you’re adding a layer of confidence for you and your sitter before the booking begins.
If you would like updates while you’re away, you can discuss with your sitter how many or how frequent you’d like those updates to be. The Rover app allows sitters to send photos, videos, and messages about your pet, including how many pee or poo breaks occured. You can message your sitter at any time through the app and our support team is available for dedicated customer support by email or chat if you have concerns.
The personalised, in-home nature of pet care through Rover can mean more individual attention for your pet.

Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to £25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit our Trust & Safety page .
Emergency support is available by phone or email in English, French, German, and Spanish from Mon-Sat 9am to 6pm. A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your dog, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
We require sitters to operate in compliance with applicable local licensing requirements. In England, pet sitters who board dogs or provide doggy day care as a business may need a valid licence under the Animal Welfare (Licensing of Activities Involving Animals) Regulations 2018. When vetting your sitter, ask if they meet local licensing requirements for dog boarding. This confirmation is important for coverage under the Rover Guarantee. Read more about our requirement for following local licensing requirements .
