“Lucy is an amazing petsitter! She stayed at my house for 11 days and looked after my very energetic and a bit reactive dog. She kept me updated, sent lots of pictures and followed my suggestions and requests 💙 Greta is missing You already!”

“Yang looked after Gus for us in our home. She was really communicative, sending pictures of gus and keeping us up to date with how he was. She did an amazing job of keeping him settled whilst we were away and we will definitely have Yang back to look after Gus again”

“Giovanna looked after our dog in our home. She was very quick and easy to communicate with to arrange a meet and greet. On the day she was on time, sent regular updates and spent quality time with our dog. We would definitely recommend.”

“Jolene was fantastic with my dog who is blind and kept me regularly updated on how was. She kept good care of my place as well too while she was house sitting for 4 days. Would definitely reccommend to anyone looking for a house sitter!”

“Helen is a delight! Really helped us out at short notice, and took Fred from another sitter, despite not meeting Fred before, and it was a late-at-night sitting. Fred was looked after beautifully, and we could not be more thankful for Helen for allowing us to feel that Fred was in safe hands. 10/10.”

“Erin was a delight to have look after our dogs at our Airbnb in Bolton. She made herself available at really short notice too which was extremely helpful. If we're ever up in Manchester again with the dogs she will be our 1st point of call to dog sit for us 😀 Thanks so much Erin and good luck with the rest of your vetinary studies x”

“Stef took great care of our dog Bonnie while we were away for a long weekend. She was organised, punctual and easy to communicate with! Most importantly Bonnie seemed to have had a great time! Would definitely recommend Stef!”

“Emma looked after Misty for us whilst we had a family celebration day. Emma soon had Misty settled and comfy and they had a good day together which included two walks. Emma sent us photos and a video of their outings and Misty looked happy with their adventures. Misty has taken to Emma and we will certainly be using her services again. Thank you Emma for taking such good care of Misty for us.”

“Hazuki’s communication has been great. For our pet sitting booking she was reliable and we felt completely comfortable and relaxed knowing she was looking after our cat and dog. I would definitely recommend Hazuki as a petsitter.”

“Highly recommend Jonny to care for your furry family! My first time leaving Barney and Bessie with anyone other than my family, and I was unnecessarily anxious. They’ve just had a fab 24 hours in his care with all their needs met and more. I’ve come home to two happy, content, and tired out pups.”

“We’d never left eight-month-old Fred overnight before, so I was anxious about leaving him for four days while we went on holiday. Turns out there was no need for worry because Chloe was absolutely brilliant. She stayed at our house for the three nights, and even got here super early the first day so that Fred didn’t have to be left alone when we left for the train station. Chloe was super responsive and kept us updated the whole time we were away. We came home to a very happy puppy and a house that had also clearly been very well looked after. Chloe is friendly and thoughtful and great with Fred. I recommend Chloe one hundred percent and will absolutely be calling on her again!”

“Eleanor is a fantastic sitter. Arrived in great time, friendly, polite and asked all the right questions about my dogs needs for the evening. My dog loved her. Would highly recommend.”

About: My first ever job as a 10 year old was to be my street’s dog walker! As an adult, I have looked after neighbours’ dogs as a drop-in basis, for walks and dog sitting in my own home. I also have experience with a wide range of breeds, ages and temperaments. I like to live an active life so longer/decent walks are not an issue for me. I’d be keen to follow your own routines with your pet to give them consistency, and of course give them a happy, safe and comfortable time with me. I work full time Mon-Fri, at home on Mondays and Fridays so dog sitting for long weekends is particularly good when I can give them undivided attention. I’d be happy doing duties before/after work and during my lunch hour when I’m at the office too. Weekend-wise, I’m entirely available and flexible to cater to the dog’s usual exercise routines. I can offer at least 2 good walks a day and can feed however many times a day your dog is used to (please provide their regular food). I would keep routines consistent and watch for any changes in behaviour, and provide regular photo/message updates so you feel connected. I treat all pets as though they’re my own - with a lot of love and care! I’m trustworthy to provide the best possible care for your pet whether they are staying in my house or your own, and would respect your space if doing drop in visits. If they’re staying with me, my house is in a quiet area with a secure, dog-proof garden. I would do my best to follow your pet’s routines to give them as much consistency as possible. I would also ensure to give you regular updates on how your pet is doing and what they’re getting up to!
“Thomas was absolutely fantastic with Noodle. He helped us out at the last minute and was on time, professional and asked a lot of thoughtful questions about caring for Noodle. We’d definitely ask Thomas again”

About: I have grown up around dogs while riding horses since I was a kid. I have spent 18 years in the horse riding club and have plenty experience looking after dogs for friends, family and clients. I have looked after all kind of dogs especially bigger dogs. Each dogs needs are different to others and I provide personalised care around your dogs needs. I may ask a lot of questions but this is to make sure I familiarise myself with your dog, their habits and needs so we both can enjoy our time together. I can provide walks, drop in visits and staying at your house over night. I'm also experienced in providing medication to dogs. I have availability on evenings and weekends. I have my own dog so I don't take dogs home but can play with your dog at yours and occupy their brains with different games so they enjoy their time with me.
About: I have had pets since I was 10 years old. I have had cats, dogs and kittens and also rabbits. I have experience looking after people’s kittens/cats/senior cats and also puppies/adult dogs and senior dogs. I have medication administration experience as our old senior cat had medical conditions which required medication. I love looking after furbabies to ensure their individual needs are being met taking into consideration their different personalities. I currently work a 9-5 job Monday to Friday but I am free evenings and over the weekend. Over the weekend I am more flexible to look after pets in my own home, take them for walks and do drop in sessions. I can also offer dog walking/ drop in sessions in the evening after work hours. I have a fenced backyard for your furbaby and I am a 5 minute walk away from a field. I am available to meet up prior to a sit/walk or drop in so I am able to meet you and your furbaby so you can assess who is going to look after your family member.

Erin was on time, friendly and pays attention to detail. She love Jax and Jax loves her. She proved to be trustworthy and did what she was asked to do. She updated me with photos and told us how she was getting on with him. Cannot fault her and certainly will use her services again.

Thomas was an excellent sitter for our 7 year old terrier, Minnie. He took good care of her, played with her and took her for good walks. Thomas's communication was very good, he sent messages and photos every day. We would definitely book him again and can recommend him without hesitation.

Giovanna was wonderful with our pets and clearly cared for them so well. We got daily photos and updates, which was really reassuring and lovely to receive while we were away. Our pets seemed happy and settled, and it was clear Giovanna treated them with lots of care and attention. She also left our home clean and tidy, which we really appreciated. We’d definitely recommend Giovanna and would be very happy to book her again.

Lucy was great! We needed a last minute house sitter to look after Maple who had just come into season. Lucy was really flexible and managed to fit in a meet and greet beforehand, and Maple took to her so quickly. We felt very comfortable leaving Maple with her and would happily book with Lucy again!

Could not be happier with the care that Lyla and Charlotte provided for our two dogs whilst we were away. It was so nice knowing the dogs were being cared for so well in their own home, and knowing our home was in such capable hands. We had lots of messages and updates throughout our holiday so we knew they were happy and meant we didn’t miss our dogs too much! I cannot recommend Lyla enough, I’m almost scared to sing her praises too much in case lots of people start booking and there’s no availability for me!!

Eleanor is a lovely dog sitter - answers enquiries quickly , is always punctual and very friendly . She has looked after Millie a few times now including this Fri evening and also this Sat . She is always very good with Millie and Millie really enjoys her company -we get loads of pictures of Millie looking relaxed and happy which is reassuring as Millie has separation anxiety . Thanks again for helping us out Eleanor

We have been anxious about leaving our two dogs in the hands of someone else for a long while, however the recent day they spent with Helen at our house could not have gone better, with them clearly being comfortable around her. Our eldest one especially has trouble warming up to other people, so this is no small feat. We are relieved to have found someone who we and the dogs are comfortable with, and as a result would very much like to have Helen look after them again.

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Post & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Rubbish & recycling: Taking bins out on scheduled rubbish collection days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best time to agree on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a 'home cheat sheet' that includes your preferred York walking routes, the location of your favourite pet shop, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes dedicated customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement programme for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to £25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover must pass an identity verification before they can list their services. An identity verification confirms that the sitter is who they say they are based on their documents.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to £25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit our Trust & Safety page .
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in York choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a key safe or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience administering medication or managing dietary requirements. You can also find pet sitters who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and request a Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest vet. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorisation form for your regular vet. An authorisation form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
