“Alex was fantastic with my older German Shepherd, Raven. I left her in his care while I was at a race and had complete peace of mind she was in good hands. Thank you so much.”

About: I have cared for dogs throughout my life including my own, my family, and friends. The dogs have ranged from puppies to older adults with boarding in my home and their own. I live on the first floor of my building and there are no steps for senior dogs to have to worry about. While I do work as a teacher full time, my weekends are very open to care for dogs. I typically take a walk one to two times a day on my own through the neighborhood so adding a dog companion along would be very easy. We also have a cat who loves dogs with many dog toys of her own that she can share! I have a one bedroom apartment with no stairs so it is easily accessible for dogs of all mobility ranges and ages and I can keep an eye on them throughout the day. While we do not have a fenced in yard, we do have access to a field next door at an elementary school and neighborhoods to walk in with little car traffic.
“Annie was awesome! Lots of pictures and snuggles for our golden retriever!! She even introduced him to her bird, Francis, who captivated Rigby. Will absolutely book with Annie again.”

“Samantha is the best! She asked lots of questions when we met, listened to our suggestions and concerns and happily sat with Mia for a couple of hours to get acquainted while we went out to lunch. Mia settled in with no problems and Samantha gave us updates and pictures at least twice a day. She went out of her way to make drop off and pickup easy. Mia enjoyed lots of walks, adventures and attention during her stay and we were able to enjoy our vacation confident that she was receiving good care. It was a bonus that she lives right down the street so Mia was able to stay in her own neighborhood. I give Samantha ten stars.”

“James took wonderful care of our dog Maya over a five day long weekend. He has a backyard with a deck and when I arrived to pick her up, she greeted me but went back to her spot on the deck and would have been happy to stay, I think! James sent a photo and video when I texted to see how she was doing and that was reassuring. We have another weekend away scheduled in the next couple of months and plan to ask James to take care of her then, so I would recommend him highly. He has a super friendly dog and she was good company for Maya.”

“Grace saved us with a last minute stay for our corgi! She was super communicative with updates and sending us photos of Rooney! And Rooney had a great time with her dog as well. We’ll definitely use grace again if we find ourselves in Portland!”

About: I’ve grown up in the outdoors and with a love of taking care of animals. I have always been relied on as someone who can be called on to help take care of a furry friend. While I can’t get a dog of my own right now, I love having animals around to spend time with and join me on my day to day experiences and outdoor adventures. Currently working hybrid remote from home that allows me lots of freedom in my schedule. Depending on the animal, I would move my work around their needs. I can offer frequent walks and check-ins. When working remotely, they will be with me at all times. When in office, there may be times that they will be alone for up to 4 hours. Depending on the animals/owners needs I can be flexible to training schedules if that is something they would like support with.
“This was Maizy’s second visit with Dill, Ike and Lucy. It’s obvious they love dogs! Their yard makes it easy for Maizy to go out. She was up early going for walks. The pictures we received showed how happy Maizy was on her vacation! Thanks guys!”
“Lindsay did such a great job with our pug, Chloe. She sent photos, played with her, took her for long walks. When we picked Chloe up - she was perfectly calm and clearly felt comfortable and lived with Lindsay.”

“Alexandra did a great job watching my dog, Beanie. Beanie can take some time to warm up, but I could tell how comfortable she was when I went to pick her up - she acted like she didn’t want to leave! I also appreciated Alexandra’s updates and prompt responses. I would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a dog sitter in the area!”

“Celine was 10 out of 10 fantastic for our dog’s weekend sleepover. She is a kind and caring person who makes sure both you and your dog are comfortable. I received many photos a day and I knew my dog was safe, happy, and enjoying his weekend with her. Overall it was a great experience and I would highly recommend Celine!”

“Hank and his mom Rachel were such a blast for our dog Bode to stay with. He had a great week of playtime, couch time, and what looked like hours of dog parkour. We will absolutely be sending Bode back.”

“Marley had an amazing stay with Victoria and Brent. She is a 9-month old puppy and it was her first time away from our family. They were so loving and ensured Marley was loved and well taken care of while boarded. We received pictures almost daily of Marley and could see how well she was doing. Victoria frequently walked her with her mother’s and brother’s dogs, and Marley enjoyed the socialization and making new “friends.” We were reassured that Marley was in excellent care while we were out of town and we will certainly board with Victoria again. Highly recommended!”

“My husband and I left our girl River with Heidi for an extended stay while we were away for our honeymoon. I was very worried about leaving her for over a week but Heidi did a phenomenal job. We got regular videos of our girl having the best time. She came home happy and tired. Communication with Heidi was frequent and easy. I was so so relieved at how successful this stay was and will certainly bring her back for another visit.”

“Could not recommend Christina more highly. She was incredibly responsive and communicative and treated my dog like her own. I will absolutely look to Christina for future stays.”

“Karen and Steve looked after Millie, our rather nervous 1 1/2 year old miniature cockapoo, during her first ever extended stay away from home. She overlapped with a sweet older dog which apparently went well for all. Karen sent daily photos from the beach, out for walks, on shopping trips and snuggling on the couch - which were reassuring for us especially as the temperatures were insanely cold. A health problem while we were away meant that we needed to extend our trip by four days - and luckily Karen was able to accommodate Millie for that additional time - which she did very graciously. Millie spent the extra days alongside a second (tiny!) friend. We appreciated Karen and Steve's frequent communication, flexibility and sensitivity to Millie's needs and plan to return in the future!”

“Kymberly and Robert are excellent dog sitters. We felt absolutely confident and comfortable that our dog was in good hands from the moment we dropped her off with Kymberly and Robert. They posted regular updates and were attentive in every way. It’s clear that they have a love of dogs and shared that love with our pup. I highly recommend them for your dog needs!”

Claudia and Jason (Ilan) were amazing with our pup! He has some anxiety about new people and places and they moved at his pace. It’s obvious that they have a lot of experience working with dogs and genuinely care about them! They always made sure he was comfortable, happy, and had enough exercise. They sent lots of adorable photos and updates and quickly assured us that he was in the best hands while we were away. We will definitely reach out to them for future dog sitting!!

Josh was an incredible dog watcher for Whistler. He went above and beyond, including taking her to our wedding so that she could be our ring bearer. He also took her to the lake and she had an absolute blast with his other two dogs. He was attentive, loving, and sent us pictures all the time of her adventure with Josh!

Celine was 10 out of 10 fantastic for our dog’s weekend sleepover. She is a kind and caring person who makes sure both you and your dog are comfortable. I received many photos a day and I knew my dog was safe, happy, and enjoying his weekend with her. Overall it was a great experience and I would highly recommend Celine!

Brittany was awesome! I needed a super last minute dog sitter over 4th of July weekend and she was so sweet and quick to reply. It was my first time leaving my dog with a stranger but she really put my mind at ease and continued to send me picture and text updates throughout the duration. I signed up for her to stay in my home and she left everything clean and tidy and my dog was well taken care of. Will be requesting her going forward! Thank you Brittany!

Jill was so good with my dog Louie. She kept me up to date on how he was doing, with photos and some funny videos. She was flexible as best she could be about drop off and pick up. She was very conscious of Louie’s safety and health, taking excellent care of him. Louie loved her and felt right at home. I will definitely leave my dog with her again. Thank you, Jill

Bee had such a fun time staying with Emmy and Banjo! Emmy sent me daily picture updates, was super responsive and accommodating to changes in my schedule. Bee is a high energy dog and Emmy fulfilled her exercise needs every day, getting her outside to do all of her favorite things. Bee will be excited to visit Emmy and Banjo again the next time I need a sitter!

Leon had a great time with Viva! He came home happy and tired :) viva definitely knows how to build relationships with dogs and also their humans! She sent fabulous pictures of Leon clearly happy and relaxed. I can’t thank her enough! Also communication was clear easy and accurate.

A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
While each sitter sets their own vaccine requirements, staying up-to-date on your dog’s vaccines is the best way to be "boarding ready". Vaccinations help create a safe environment for all pets under a sitter’s care.
Many sitters in ME ask that dogs be up to date on core vaccines like the Canine Parvovirus, Canine Distemper, Canine Adenovirus, Bordetella, and Rabies. Cats may be required to have Feline Viral Rhinotracheitis and Rabies up to date.
By discussing your pet's health history early, you’re adding a layer of confidence for you and your sitter before the booking begins.
Emergency support is available by phone or email in English 24/7. When an incident occurs, we recommend that sitters contact our Trust & Safety team immediately so that they can connect your sitter with a board-certified veterinarian or offer other resources to help.
If a sitter needs to cancel at the last minute, Rover’s reservation protection means our team will work with you to find a suitable replacement as quickly as possible.
