“Madeleine was great! We needed some last-minute drop ins for our dog and she was quick to respond, attentive, and professional. We got updates from each of her visits with photos and a few notes. Absolutely would recommend!”

About: I’ve taken care of pets my whole life, and especially love taking dogs on walks where they get to lead with their noses. I wish I could get a pet right now but since I can’t, I love helping out other pet owners to get my dog and cat fix! I just moved to Portland and am applying for work in conservation and/or education, so have a very open schedule as I continue my job search. I am usually gone on weekends out in the woods somewhere, but am around the city on weekdays! I cannot host pets in my home, but will happily visit your home and make sure to follow all pet care instructions you leave for me!
“Julia was great with my cat Frankie who usually dislikes everyone but me, which made the 10 days I was away so much less stressful! Julia sent daily updates and photos and I was so happy to see how well Frankie was doing with her. I definitely look forward to booking with Julia again in the future.”

“Maureen is a true pet lover. My sweet old cat “Mouse” was well cared for and loved while I was away and I felt confident he was in good hands. I am so happy to have found someone reliable and caring, I highly recommend her and Rover.com Faye C.”

“I was in a last minute punch after a cat sitter changed plans last minute. Nishat was exceptionally responsive and swooped in and saved the day! She also took great care of my kittens!”

“Katey is lovely and responsible and I knew my kitty cat was in good hands. It is wonderful to be able to travel and not worry about my kitty. Katey takes lots of sweet photos too. Thank you Katey!”

About: Animals have always been the center of my world, from growing up with pets to pet-sitting countless dogs and cats across NYC. My two cats, August and Ivy, are the absolute loves of my life - My goal is simple: to provide your beloved pets with the exact same high standard of care, safety, and affection that my own two companions receive at home. I work in the office 3 days a week, but I have an hour for lunch and live only 7 min from my office. If close enough I will be able to check in midday as well as morning and after work. I have a fenced yard, though my cats are indoor only I have taken care of my neighbors dogs and enjoy playing fletch for round after round after round. I am organized and will have notes based on what you need for each drop in, will supply pictures, be there on time and stay the whole time. Having used rover myself I know how integral these things are!
“Annie has really worked hard to try to gain the trust of my new rescue dog Rocky. I really appreciate the effort that she has put in and her concern for his well-being.”

About: I've been around animals my whole life, growing up on a farm surrounded by horses, dogs, and cats. I truly enjoy their company and currently share my home with two wonderful cats, Blueberry Pie and Flint; caring for them is an absolute joy! When looking after your pets, I prioritize safety, love, and personalized attention every step of the way. I work 7 AM–4 PM Monday–Friday and can visit your pet before work, after work, or around noon if you're nearby. Weekends offer fully flexible hours for your animal's care. Safety and happiness always come first. I visit your space respectfully, sticking to your pet's routine while providing love and attention. Drop-ins include playtime, fresh food/water, litter checks, and secure lock-ups, if needed. I always text updates for peace of mind!
“Erin did a fabulous job taking care of our senior dog! Such great pictures and details of his visits, we felt very comfortable that he was happy while we were away ❤️?”

“Jayson was very responsive on Rover and extremely reliable. More importantly, he was so patient and kind to our old lady dog even though she was a bit territorial in the house. He understands how pets tick including older pets. I recommend him highly!”

“Jackiellen took great care of our kitty, Pepper for our first time leaving her since we adopted her. She was right on time with every drop in visit and gave us reassuring updates and photos. We could tell Pepper was well looked after. Will definitely book Jackie again!”

“Jesika is WONDERFUL! We were able to enjoy time away knowing our dog, Penny, was in such capable hands. Jesika is an outstanding communicator, she goes above and beyond, and Penny absolutely adored her! Thank you Jesika!”

About: I have always loved both dogs and cats since I was a kid! I have been around dogs since I was little and I live with a cat now! I would adore taking your furry friend for a walk or checking up on your cat when you are away. I am currently trying to fit dog walking into my schedule in the mornings before my job starts (STARTING IN MAY). I can also check up on your furry friend in the evening. I am also building my online business so days I am not at my other job are more flexible! I am very good at directions and pay attention to details. I will follow the directions left by the owners when doing a check in! I listen to the pet, and if they are not so sure of me, I let them come to me (especially with cats!) And of course there will be lots of pets!

“Marna was reliable and took great care of our kitties while we were away. She also went out of her way to open a plant delivery that arrived late and watered it for me, which was really appreciated. We would definitely recommend her.”

“Lindsey was professional and clearly a dog person! Our pups had a great time playing with her. She sent pictures and updates so we were never wondering how they were doing. My dog got super muddy and she cleaned her up and also took care of the messy towels. I would absolutely trust her to care for our pups again!”

“I swear Emmy was Misty's mom in her past life - that is how much she loves her and is comfortable around her- which as an owner, is the best feeling. Emmy has watched Misty for 3 long trips (7+days) and a few other nights and we are always at ease during our time away because of her. She sends pictures, gives us updates if we ask, is comfortable taking her both on and off leash, has given her medications when required, and has had play dates with other friends & dogs, too. Our dog is so comfortable with her that she's always snuggled up to her and even perks up when we say Emmy is coming. Emmy is always our go-to when she is available !”

“Super reliable. Communication was perfect. Had forgotten to give key code. And they still showed up and contacted me. Went over and beyond what I expected from my dog sitter. Extremely professional and was great with my dogs.”

Cat parents share their Rover experiences - South Portland
Jackiellen is the ultimate petsitter! Amigo, our 14 year old cat, does not like it when he sees our suitcases come out to be loaded, but he forgives us every time Jackiellen arrives to take care of him. She's the best and he lets us know it as soon as we come home!
Hanna was terrific. She sent daily photos and updates -- super responsible, communicated clearly and even dealt with a deceased mouse, which was no fun for her. Autumn the cat was relaxed and herself when I returned after a long trip. She's long-haired, the cat this is, and her fur was brushed out and untangled when i returned home. After the trip, Hanna checked in to make sure all was okay.

Meagan was a complete star! She helped us out at the last moment, and came aboard with a positive attitude and an attention to detail. We are so grateful for her daily updates and detailed notes -- they really put as at ease. Would highly recommend, and hope to have Meagan sit for us again in the future!

Molly has been just great taking care of our two cats. Her communication with us is exceptional, and her photos are wonderful! She is so reliable, and we really feel like our cats are being pampered. We shall continue to book with her and recommend her highly!

Cat sitters on Rover care for your cats’ needs and can spend quality time with them, including activities like feeding, playing, and refreshing their water and litter boxes. Depending on your arrangement, you can schedule as many visits per day as your cat needs or find a sitter who can stay at your house overnight. Some sitters also board cats in their home.

Many pet parents provide a spare key or arrange a lockbox. You can also exchange keys during the Meet & Greet and show your walker how to use digital fobs or personalized codes. It helps to arrange access to your home, from spare keys to concierge introductions, before pet care begins.
If you live in an apartment or condo, don’t forget to discuss details like buzzer access, codes, or elevator etiquette. These details can help a pet sitter feel more comfortable going in and out of your building.

A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your cat, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.

Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
