Saskia looked after our 2 Ragdolls for 3 days and 4 nights and did such a fantastic job! I was impressed from the offset when she arranged to meet them first, asked all the right questions and was clearly a cat lover. She looked after my flat as if it were her own and we not only came back to 2 very happy cats, but the flat was spotless too. She sent daily updates and was always contactable. Couldn’t have asked for a better cat sitter, felt very comfortable to leave Ralph & Ru in her hands. Will definitely be booking again!

About: Dogs have always been a big part of our lives, and we've grown up with breeds including Shih Tzus, German Shepherds, Pomeranians, and Japanese Spitz. We are aiming to provide loving, attentive care and tailor our routine to each dog's needs 🐾 Our home is right next to the Thames river path, with plenty of green space for walks, playtime, and fresh air. We aim to make every pup feel safe, happy, and right at home 💕 💡For medium and large dog boarding, we prefer dogs that are crate trained. We both have flexible work schedules and can work from home when needed, so we’re able to spend lots of time with your pets 🐶🐱 Weekends and weekdays after 2pm usually work best for boarding, but we’re always happy to chat and see what works for you. We do our best to be flexible and make sure your pet gets plenty of attention, care, and company throughout the day 💕 Your pet’s safety and comfort are our top priority 🐶🐱 Our home is calm, clean, and pet-friendly, with a fully fenced garden where dogs can safely go outside, play, and relax. We always supervise outdoor time and carefully follow each pet’s routine, feeding instructions, and any special needs. With nearby Thames river walks and plenty of safe green spaces, your pet will enjoy both secure outdoor time and a loving home environment 💕

Ed was a very proactive, kind, and thoughtful sitter for our two dogs and cat. He handled our dogs' quirks (leash reactivity) well and left our home spotless. The pets must have loved him because they were barely excited to see us! One of our pups Marcela isn't normally a cuddler but it was obvious from the photos that she loved and felt safe around Ed. I received daily updates on my trip with photos. Overall, he's agreat sitter and I highly recommend booking him.

About: I've had animals in my life since I was little. I took pride in caring for my pets. I enjoyed caring for them so much I volunteered with a local animal shelter throughout my school years. While I do not have a dog of my own currently, I still spent a lot of time with them through my dog nieces and nephews back home. I was a pet sitter there as well, and have added it back into my life at uni. I strive to keep up clients' usual routines to reduce confusion and stress on them. If allowed, I can also take your dog(s) to either dog parks or dog-friendly trails for a fun experience! (Please note: I do not have a car while I'm at uni so any bookings must be accessible via public transit) I am currently in Reading for uni, so outside of term time is completely flexible. During term time I have a small number of classes, so if necessary your pet(s) might have to be alone for a few hours. If they require additional care, I can opt-in to lectures online and stay with them. I typically go to my client's house. I prefer this since it tends to reduce stress put on the pet by the change in their routine. I'm happy to follow any instructions left by you and am adept at solving problems without needless questioning, so you can focus on wherever you are. I'll keep you up to date on their status and let you know if I find any behavior that's concerning. I'm a clean person who will respect your house rules and strive to leave things better than I found them.

About: I have grown up frequently helping a family member out with her animal rescue, looking after dogs of all different shapes and sizes, some with additional needs. I have experience walking strong and difficult dogs, and will be confident attending to your dog's every need! I have just graduated from uni and currently have a part time job, so am looking to fill lots of my free time looking after some pets! I currently don't have any pets of my own but I have a lot of love to give to whichever furry friends I meet. I can easily follow any instructions you leave for the care of your pet in your home, and also use my initiative in any unprecedented situations that may arise. I will make sure that your pet is comfortable and your house remains exactly as you left it :)

Highly recommend Chenyan, not only did she manage to amend her schedule to fit us in on a last minute booking, but she also managed to fit in a meetup visit the day before so she can get to know Elune. Our Lulu is very anxious around new people and is also quite a big dog, however Chenyan showed patience and empathy towards her from the moment they met. She has also shown amazing communication with us throughout the process and great connection with Elune, making her feel safe and calm for the evening. Chenyan also provided lots of photos, videos and updates to show us how Elune was doing. In terms of the house, she treated it with respect, leaving it in a clean and proper state. We are incredibly grateful we worked together and we will definitely reach out to Chenyan for future collaboration. Thank you so much for your kindness and patience with Elune :)

Another successful house sit for Tam. He was so pleased to see Sabina when she arrived he wasn’t worried at all when we went out. She even managed to get him to go for a walk which is unheard of when we go out. Tam was very calm and relaxed when we came home so I know he was happy with Sabina.

Rosemary looked after our nervous dog Ruby for the day. From the start Rosemary was very quick to respond and arranged a visit to meet us and Ruby before the planned booking. Rosemary was lovely, very friendly and nothing was too much trouble and Ruby definitely took to her. I was kept informed during the day which was very reassuring. Thank you Rosemary again for yesterday’s sitting and I will definitely be getting in touch again to arrange another booking.

About: I’ve been taking care of my pug for 10 years alone and trained her without any skills. I love dogs and am always happy to cuddle, walk and play with them! Rosie gets an hour walk every morning after breakfast, we usually go along the Thames or the canal or parks, we make sure to change every now and then so she keeps enjoying her walks and being stimulated. Some days we take it slow and smell everything! It depends which mood she’s in I work from home and walk my dog every morning before work for an hour and go for another walk in the evening before her dinner. I do not have a garden which means that your dog will be walked at least twice a day to go potty! My flat is secure and your dog will never be alone.

About: Im currently getting everything set up and will be available for dog sitting from the 20th of September. I’m a university student so I have lots of free time. I live next to Palmer Park and do my daily walks there anyway! I get my fitness in and to be accompanied by a dog would be lovely. I have a car so I am able to get to homes and take the dogs for walks. I have grown up with my grandparents dogs and my friends dogs have experienced many cuddles, dog walks, dog feeds and nap times. I love learning new tricks for the dogs and making them happy. I have a flexible schedule, I study part time at Reading university so I am always free in the evenings, weekends and around my lessons in the morning and afternoon. I will make sure your dog gets the same amount of fork as usual and make them feel really at home. Hopefully keep them to their usual routine.

About: I’ve taken care of my own pets, my family members, friends and neighbours. I had my own big dog and so I know what it takes to take care of dogs. I am able to walk the dog frequently and for various lengths. I am happy to take care of dogs who might need some special treatment! I study mostly at home so I am able to be flexible with my hours. I already take about 4 walks a day so adding a furry buddy to it is no problem. I like walking in large fields which would provide the pet a lot of space to roam around. My dog lived with me in an apartment and then we moved to a house with a garden so that he can enjoy more of the earth and fresh air. I walk my dogs every 4 hours or more often if needed! I usually feed my dog once in the morning and once at night unless he has special dietary requirements when sick.

Viktoriia was an excellent house and cat sitter, and I would happily recommend her. She came to visit beforehand so that I could show her everything and meet my cats, which I really appreciated. Communication was great throughout, and she kept me updated while I was away. She took wonderful care of my three cats and also made sure all of my plants were watered during the hot weather. When I returned home, everything was clean, tidy, and exactly as I had left it. Viktoriiia is reliable, caring, and conscientious. I would highly recommend her to anyone looking for a trustworthy house and pet sitter, and I would be delighted to have her stay again in the future.

Deeya was on time and fully prepared to look after our dogs after our earlier meet and greet. The dogs were very happy in her company and she easily made friends with them (and us!). The dogs are fairly easy to look after, but Deeya discovered one of them had picked up something in the garden, possibly a chicken bone, and removed it without fuss - not easy with our two. Well done Deeya, see you again.

We can highly recommend Ieva as a housesitter for your pets. Ieva looked after our two dogs Lulu and Holly whilst we were away on holiday for a week in April 2026. Ieva arranged a pre-visit to meet us and our dogs before the house sitting which reassured us that they would be looked after well. Whilst on holiday we received regular updates with photos and when we returned home everything was left clean and tidy and the dogs were relaxed and happy. We hope to be able to use Ieva's housesitting services again the next time we go on holiday.

Frequently asked questions about Rover

The average cost for House Sitting in Reading on Rover is £40.25 per night (as of August 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.

Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .

As of August 2026, there are 10,448 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Reading. Enter your postcode to see which available sitters are closest to your home.

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:

  • Post & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
  • Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
  • Rubbish & recycling: Taking bins out on scheduled rubbish collection days.
  • Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.

The best time to agree on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a 'home cheat sheet' that includes your preferred Reading walking routes, the location of your favourite pet shop, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.

The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes dedicated customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement programme for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.

All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to £25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.

Every sitter on Rover must pass an identity verification before they can list their services. An identity verification confirms that the sitter is who they say they are based on their documents.

Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to £25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit our Trust & Safety page .

Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Reading choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a key safe or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!

Yes, you can find sitters who have experience administering medication or managing dietary requirements. On Rover:

  • 92% of sitters can help with special care needs
  • 91% can help with giving oral medications or injections
  • 97% can help with daily exercise

You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.

Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.

A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.

If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest vet. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.

For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorisation form for your regular vet. An authorisation form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.

Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
