My children are now college graduates and I have no time commitments or obligations so house sitting suits my lifestyle perfectly. They are never left alone for more than 2-4 hours max if I need to run an errand nearby. I take the dog/s out for a walk or potty break every couple of hours, we may go to a nearby dog park that’s fenced in or go by the beach.
