“We’ve been searching for a new cat sitter since our most recent sitter moved away. Anneke has perfectly filled that role. I feel incredibly lucky to have met her on the first try as I would confidently reach out to her again for help with drop-ins for our 3 cats. Anneke took care of my 3 cats (1 diabetic on insulin, 1 FIV+, and 1 very timid cat) with twice a day drop-ins for 1 week. She was easy to work with from the moment I reached out to her. We made sure to have a meet and greet about 1 week ahead of the reservation. Anneke asked important questions that showed she was familiar with administering insulin, absorbed an incredible amount of info about 3 cats in ~30 mins, and it was clear that she’s had extensive experience with cats, which is hard to come by on a dog-centric app like Rover. Even though she travelled by bike and bus from Arlington to N. Cambridge, she was always reliably on time and never once needed to adjust any one of the 14 drop-ins. She was quick to pick up on how to adjust Theodore’s insulin based on the amount of food consumed and quickly learned each cat’s personalities. She alerted me to an unusually warm apartment (78F in March) and followed my instructions to leave the window open at the next visit without issue. Anneke communicated just enough with me to notify of important highlights but never so much that I felt anxious. She left our home exactly as it was. We hope to rely on her for future drop-ins! Thank you, Anneke!”

“Shawn did a great job and took very good care of our cats, including making sure on of them got her pills. She clearly cares a lot about cats and was very communicative, including lots of pictures.”

“Lindsey was great with my two pups. Twila is only 6-months-old and she's quite shy, while my other dog Chester is just over two-years-old. I had Lindsey do check ins the first week we got Twila as I was adjusting my work hours to accommodate a new puppy. Lindsey was timely, caring and patient with both of my dogs. I highly recommend her!”

“Kristen was such a wonderful help during our holiday travel! She updated us every day on our kitten’s progress and made sure she was happy and taken care of. I always felt like our pet was in safe and loving hands with her! She even went above and beyond by checking on little Hero sometimes twice a day! A wonderful experience, would certainly book again.”
About: I grew up with our own dogs as well as 25 foster dogs over the years. Five years ago, I adopted Eddie, my 14 year old chihuahua mix. In May, I adopted Dolly, my 10 year old Boston terrier mix. I’ve taken care of puppies, seniors, 110 lbs dogs, 10 lbs dogs, and everything in between! I’d love to be able to help you and your family. I’m a teacher currently on summer break, so my schedule is completely free for the summer. Once fall hits, I’ll still be available during the afternoons and on weekends. I truly think that owners know their dogs best, so I will take the lead from you in regards of what your dog expectations are. Each pet has different needs, so I’d like my care to reflect their needs and approach each situation holistically

About: I have two pet snakes and have grown up around cats and dogs my whole life! I’ve given oral and injectable meds to snakes, cats, and dogs so I’m perfect for even high needs pets. I’m currently working part time, so I can work around a usual 9-5 schedule. If you have longer sitting needs, reach out and I can make something work for you! I will depend on the systems and items in your home according to your pet goals and needs! I come prepared with curiosity and kindness with every pet and I’m not afraid to ask questions.
“Maria is so kind and goes above and beyond to make pet sitting great. She offered to meet and greet our cat before we left and really went the extra mile to make us feel secure. Would highly recommend her to anyone in need of a pet sitter.”

“Natalie was great! She was super friendly and responsive, she took lots of photos, and kept me updated :) It's hard to tell what cats are thinking, but I think they liked her too ;)”

“Blane was super organized— reached out in advance to come meet the kitties and see the house. The updates we got were so full of love and we 100% knew the cats were in good hands. It was also very easy to ask for a few extra things like making sure the AC was on and the windows were closed when the weather changed. Thanks so much!! We’ll definitely be repeat customers.”

“Tira was amazing and immediately put our family at ease. She cared for our cat for a full week while we were out of town for the holidays and was always quick to provide updates and thoughtful suggestions to help make our cat more comfortable. Our cat warmed up to her very quickly—which is rare—and Tira truly went above and beyond in terms of care. She is kind, thoughtful, and proactive, and we sincerely hope she will be available to help us again in the future.”

“Kailey did a great job with our cats and turtle for our week away. She was very communicative and let us know right away when she had a concern about a puffy eye on one of the cats. She didn’t have any problems giving oral meds to the other cat, which was great (it’s not easy!). Will definitely book her again for our next vacation.”

About: I am a high school teacher on summer break with lots of extra time to walk, play with, and take care of your pets! I grew up with three adorably needy golden retrievers who thought they were laps dogs and a delightfully sassy cat, so I am used to taking care of cats and dogs, big and small! I've also lived with cats in adulthood and taken care of them while my roommate was away. I adore animals and have excess amounts of love to give them since I don't yet have another dog of my own! My services: I am here for walks, park visits, and home stays (chock full of lots of pets and general attention) in the Boston-Metro area! My location: Somerville, MA I'm currently on summer break and while I'll be in and out of town for different trips/weddings I have a lot of availability and flexibility to provide walks, extra care, or overnight stays with your pets! I treat all dogs and cats as if they were my own, showering them with tons of love and attention. You can expect your pet to be a little spoiled and to be sent a ton of adorable pictures!
About: I’ve had dogs and cats my entire life, and caring for animals has always been something I truly love. While I’m not able to have pets of my own right now, I’d love the opportunity to give that same love and attention to your pets! I work from home on a hybrid schedule, which gives me flexibility to provide walks, drop-ins, and plenty of companionship when I’m available. I’m also happy to care for pets on weekends when I’m around. My goal is to make sure your pets feel safe, comfortable, and loved while you’re away — and to give you peace of mind knowing they’re in good hands. 🐾 I work from home on a hybrid schedule, which gives me a lot of flexibility to care for your pets throughout the day. On my work-from-home days, I’m able to provide plenty of attention, companionship, and breaks for walks or potty time. I’m also available on weekends when I’m around and happy to work with your pet’s routine and needs. Since I’m currently unable to have pets of my own, I’m excited to use my flexible schedule to give your pets the love, attention, and care they deserve! Unfortunately, I’m not able to have pets in my own home due to not having a yard and living with people who have severe pet allergies. I don’t have any pet allergies myself, though, and I’m more than happy to travel to your home to provide care wherever your pets are most comfortable!
About: As someone who was raised around dogs and has provided pet sitting time and time again, I understand how important it is for dogs to feel safe, comfortable, and loved while their owners are away. I enjoy spending time with dogs of all ages and personalities, whether that means going for walks, playing fetch, sticking to their routine, or simply providing companionship. While, I don’t have any pets of my own. I love caring for animals and helping dog owners have peace of mind, knowing that they’re furry family members are in reliable, caring hands. I currently work full-time Monday through Friday from 8 AM to 4 PM, but I work close enough to home that midday visits around no one are easily manageable for bathroom breaks, walks, feeding, or check-in. Outside of work hours, I am available for morning, evening, and overnight care as needed. Weekends are completely open, allowing me to provide full-time attention, extended care, and flexible scheduling. Whether your dog needs a quick visit, overnight, companionship, all day supervision, I’m happy to accommodate the routine to make sure they receive plenty of care, exercise, and attention while you’re away. Your dogs safety, comfort, and well-being are my top priorities. I provide a calm, pet friendly environment in a clean, two bedroom apartment where your dog is welcome to relax and enjoy the space as if it were their own. There are no other pets or people in the home, allowing for a quiet, low stress, setting, and plenty of one on one attention. Your dog will have access to the apartment as needed, and can choose where they feel most comfortable. If preferred I can provide a designated room for sleeping, eating and relaxing, helping maintain their normal routine and giving them a space of their own. The apartment has easily controlled indoor temperatures ensuring your dogs is comfortable year-round. I understand that every dog has different needs and training levels. Whether your dog is crate trained or prefers more freedom, I can accommodate both. Dogs can safely be kept in a crate when requested or allowed outside the crate when supervised, depending on their behavior, house training, and your preferences. My goal is great and secure and welcoming environment, where you can feel confident that your dog is receiving attentive care, plenty of affection and the same level of respect and consideration, I would give my own pet.
“Lorena took great care of my cat while I was away. She shared photos of him and gave me updates via his visit card. She also communicated quickly leading up to the visit. I would book Lorena again!”

“Ying took such wonderful care of my two babies while I was away for over a month. She was very reliable, attentive, and kind, and I always felt reassured knowing they were in good hands. It meant so much to me to know they were happy and well cared for while I was away. I’m truly grateful for her help and would definitely recommend her!”

It can take Pico a couple visits to warm up to someone new giving medicine (this was her first visit with Courtney). Courtney gave us a detailed update, lots of photos, and gave Pico time and space to get comfortable with her. Would definitely rebook for future visits!

There are not enough amazing things to say about Dennis! My partner and I have never felt for comfortable traveling outside of the country with our two kitties at home. He was an amazing cat sitter and communicator throughout the long time we were away and both cats warmed up to him immediately. I HIGHLY recommend Dennis if you need a loving and attentive pet sitter!!

Isabel does a phenomenal job. My 2 cats just love her, I can tell. She plays with them and is a hard act to follow because even I don't play with them as much as she does. Isabel sends great photos and thorough reports on her visits. I have hired her in the past and will do so in the future. Thank you Isabel!
When I first booked Katie it was for a much longer trip (over two weeks) and I was wracked with anxiety leaving my bunnies for so long. Katie made me feel better, she was so attentive and commutative about everything! She even cared for one of my rabbits sore hocks daily. It’s obvious she loves your pets and the feeling is mutual. I look forward to working with Katie again in the future!

Frequently asked questions about Rover
Rover is the largest marketplace for local pet care. Whether you're looking for pet sitters, dog walkers, or house sitters who specialize in pet sitting, you can narrow your search by entering your ZIP code to find sitters within walking distance in your neighborhood.
You and your sitter can agree on a care schedule that fits your pet’s routine and the sitter’s availability. Pet Sitting can be booked as a one-time or recurring drop-in visit. If you need overnight care or dog walks, you may also be able to book House Sitting or Dog Walking through Rover with the same sitter, provided they offer those services.
Before booking, confirm:
- the timing, length, and frequency of visits;
- the care instructions the sitter should follow;
- which parts of your pet’s usual routine should be prioritized;
- how often you would like to receive messages, photos, or other updates.
Not every sitter offers the same services, availability, or booking options. Review their profile and discuss the care you need through Rover before booking each service.
If you would like updates while you’re away, you can discuss with your sitter how many or how frequent you’d like those updates to be. The Rover app allows sitters to send photos, videos, and messages about your pet, including how many pee or poop breaks occurred. You can message your sitter at any time through the app and our support team is available 24/7 by email or chat if you have concerns.
The personalized, in-home nature of pet care through Rover can mean more individual attention for your pet.
Many pet parents provide a spare key or arrange a lockbox. You can also exchange keys during the Meet & Greet and show your walker how to use digital fobs or personalized codes. It helps to arrange access to your home, from spare keys to concierge introductions, before pet care begins.
If you live in an apartment or condo, don’t forget to discuss details like buzzer access, codes, or elevator etiquette. These details can help a pet sitter feel more comfortable going in and out of your building.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit .

Yes, you can find sitters who have experience administering medication or managing dietary requirements. You can also find pet sitters who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and request a Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
A Meet & Greet is a casual meeting to vet potential sitters and communicate care needs for peace of mind before a booking begins. Only sitters who have never booked with you before can schedule a Meet & Greet on Rover; however, you are welcome to coordinate one in Rover messages with sitters you have previously booked. This can be helpful if you have a new pet or routine you want to go over with your sitter.
Meet & Greets can take place in person or virtually. If you are booking with a sitter for the first time, we recommend in-person Meet & Greets to get a clearer sense of how your sitter interacts with your pet or the new environment.
During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Meet & Greets are a great way to prepare your pet and sitter for longer stays or first-time bookings. Read our tips for your first .
