“Olivia looked after my puppy for two days when I had to go away on reasonably short notice, and was fantastic. She visited before we confirmed to meet PJ and see the flat, took note of everything I told her about care needs (and there was quite a lot) and took great care of my dog and my home while I was gone. I highly recommend Olivia and will definitely book with her again.”

“Michelle was so attentive and communicative as she looked after Theo. We received regular updates - all with Theo living his best life!! We felt safe leaving him in Michelle’s capable hands, and he seemed to absolutely love his time with her. Thanks so much Michelle”

“Aimee was wonderful and we couldn’t recommend her more highly. We booked her last minute through the Rover app and were so grateful to find someone so reasonably priced, reliable, and caring. She stayed in our home as a live-in dog sitter while we were away and gave us complete peace of mind from start to finish. Aimee’s communication was excellent throughout, with thoughtful updates that reassured us Lu was in very good hands. She was incredibly loving, conscientious, and took the time to really understand Lu’s needs and personality. Kahlua can be a handful at times, but Aimee handled everything with patience, confidence, and genuine care. She went well beyond our expectations and it felt like she treated Lu as if she were her own. We love Aimee and would not hesitate to book her again. Highly recommended 10/10 🤩”

“Repeat booking with Zuzanna, who was fantastic with our 6 month Irish terrier, Sherlock. Punctual, friendly & very comfortable with Sherlock, put him at ease immediately & he was super happy to see Zuzanna again. Will be rebooking for sure. Would highly recommend 🐾”

“Cian was amazing with Holmes. He took time to meet Holmes (and me) prior to the sit giving Holmes time to get to know him and warm up quickly. He was a great communicator and sent updates and photos throughout the sit. I would highly recommend Cian.”

About: Hi, I’m Freya. I’ve always loved animals and currently have a cat of my own, so I understand how important it is to know your pet is safe, comfortable, and well looked after while you’re away. After recently losing my dog, I realised how much I miss having dogs around and how much joy they bring to daily life. That’s what inspired me to start caring for other people’s pets through Rover. I’d love to give dogs and cats the attention, affection, walks, playtime, and companionship they deserve. I’m calm, patient, and attentive to each animal’s personality and needs — whether that’s energetic walks, cuddle time on the sofa, or simply keeping a nervous pet company and helping them feel secure. I’m happy to provide regular updates, photos, and plenty of reassurance while your pet is in my care. I know pets are family, and I’ll treat yours like my own. I’d love to meet you and your furry friend! From June until August, I am home from university so very free to be looking after animals! They will never be left for too long and I will always make time for them. I have a cat at home who is very docile, I love to go on walks and spend time with animals whether that be by the tv or on the beach!
“Bex was absolutely fantastic, she looked after our 14 year old Molly Dog over a 3 day wedding trip. Bex visited us a few weeks before to check our set up, meet Molly and have a chat about what was needed. During our family wedding trip, she kept us updated with pics of her walks, play and even grooming - Molly was treated like a doggy princess; We’d highly recommend Bex, we were completely confident in her services and also as a trustworthy person to look after our house.”

“Elizabete was great, she was punctual, patient and a very calming influence on our Binki who has separation issues, we wouldn’t hesitate in using Elizabete again and will definitely do so”

About: I’m always the one asked to dog or cat sit! I absolutely love doing it and getting to know the pets. I do sometimes think I’m a dog whisperer as I seem to know what they want or are thinking. I provide lots of cuddles and plenty of play. I have experience looking after both large and small dogs. I have also looked after multiple dogs at once, meeting each of their specific needs. I have experience with nervous and anxious dogs too, adapting the dog walk to suit the dog. I currently work in hospitality but I’m able to be flexible with my days and shifts. I love going out for walks so a little dog to join me would be fab. This gives me the best of both worlds as I sometimes travel so having a pet isn’t suitable for me full time. I have a fenced garden and plenty of parks to offer a well deserved play outside. I enjoy caring for pets in their own home and getting to know their home comforts and routine.

Pet owners share their Rover experiences - Portsmouth
Sam came to house sit for our 2-year-old chocolate lab. It was such a relief to receive the pictures of our dog having so much fun; it enabled us to relax and enjoy our holiday all the more. Sam looked after both our dog and our house every bit as much as we would ourselves. We will definitely be using Sam again.

I couldn’t have asked for a better dog sitter! Georgia and Thalia stayed for 3 days and Bertie/Basilwere so well looked after. I received regular updates and lovely photos throughout, which gave me complete peace of mind while I was away. The boys were clearly happy, relaxed and enjoying themselves. To top it all off, I came home to a spotless house. I would absolutely recommend and wouldn’t hesitate to book again. Thank you so much for taking such great care of my boys!

Aimee was amazing with Bruno! We hadn’t left him at home for quite a while, so we were a little nervous but she made the whole experience so much easier. She took him to the beach, kept us updated and took wonderful care of him. We could tell Bruno had a great time. Thank you again Aimee! 🥰

10/10! Chantelle was amazing. I am super anxious leaving my pups due to a previous bad experience but Chantelle put me right at ease. Easily reachable, took lots of pictures and gave lots of updates, couldn’t have wished for a better doggy sitter 🥰 Clearly very good at what she does, will 100% rebook in future!

Again, Michelle was amazing! This was the second time we used Michelle and she makes us so calm and relaxed with leaving Barley. We just know Barley is being looked after and loved so much. Barley was so excited to see Michelle again and we have already booked her for another 10 days. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts Michelle X

We couldn’t have asked for better dog sitters! They took such amazing care of all 3 of our dogs, including our senior blind dog who needs medication and extra attention. They were patient, caring, and made us feel completely at ease while we were away. Our two high-energy dogs were also so well cared for and clearly got lots of love and attention. They also did daily check-ins with us and sent so many pictures and videos, which meant the world to us and gave us so much peace of mind while we were away. It’s not easy handling dogs with such different needs, but they did an absolutely incredible job. We came home to happy, relaxed pups and are so grateful. Highly recommend them to anyone looking for trustworthy, compassionate pet sitters!

Zoe was great & we can highly recommend her! Wicklow clearly had an amazing day. We received some lovely photos during the sit & he was happy and calm when we got home. Zoe is really friendly, reliable and her communication was great throughout. We would book her again in an instant.

As expected from all the other amazing reviews, Nasima was the perfect houseguest for Mr Chunky. Nasima gave daily updates with photos and it looks like they got on like a house on fire. When I came home it was as if Nasima hadn’t even been there at all - everything left exactly how she found it. Will definitely rebook next time I need her!

Megan was amazing, we had to find last minute care as our doggo was injured and she absolutely took it in her stride handling a haphazard set of instructions like a pro! Her communication was amazing and we had some fab photos, I couldn’t recommend Megan more and we’re so grateful to her and her partner!

Chloe was an absolute star. She kept in touch with us, checking best course of action when our dog wouldn’t eat and suggested tricks failed, but also just generally to let us know all was well and send the odd photo or two. On our return the house was lovely and tidy and it was obvious that the animals had been well loved. This was our second time of using Chloe and we will use her again, work permitting.

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Post & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Rubbish & recycling: Taking bins out on scheduled rubbish collection days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best time to agree on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a 'home cheat sheet' that includes your preferred Portsmouth walking routes, the location of your favourite pet shop, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes dedicated customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement programme for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to £25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover must pass an identity verification before they can list their services. An identity verification confirms that the sitter is who they say they are based on their documents.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to £25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit our Trust & Safety page .
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Portsmouth choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a key safe or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience administering medication or managing dietary requirements. You can also find pet sitters who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and request a Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest vet. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorisation form for your regular vet. An authorisation form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
